'I'm in talks with...': Bundesliga 'hero' responds to LFC 'rumours'. Agent confirms he's been 'told' about Liverpool interest

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for FC Cologne goalkeeper Timo Horn, but are the Reds really interested, and is there any possibility a transfer going through?

Horn was linked with Liverpool back in October, and on Wednesday, the Daily Mail claimed:

"[Horn] has emerged as a potential signing for Liverpool as they look to increase competition for under-fire goalkeeper Simon Mignolet".

When asked about the veracity of the Liverpool rumours, Horn's agent, Volker Struth, told Cologne-based newspaper Express 1:

"We have been told about those [Liverpool] rumours, but no one contacted us directly"

Horn also seemed to dismiss the possibility of a transfer away:

"I have said it more than once: I am in talks with FC Koln [regarding a new contract]. I want to sign on with my club"

21-year old Horn is one of the Bundesliga's most effective goalkeepers, and his stats are creditable:

* FC Cologne: 74 goals conceded in 86 games (0.8 goals per game)
* 37 clean sheets (43% of games)

As a comparison, Mignolet's overall record for Liverpool is 1.4 goals conceded per game, and the incremental regression of goalkeeping standards at LFC is obvious:

* 2010-11 - Pepe Reina: 50 goals in 50 games (1.0 per game) - 20 clean sheets.
* 2011-12 - Pepe Reina: 48 goals in 46 games (1.04 per game) - 14 clean sheets.
* 2012-13 - Pepe Reina: 43 goals in 39 games (1.1 per game) - 17 clean sheets;
* 2013-14 - Mignolet: 53 goals in 40 games (1.3 per game) - 10 clean sheets).
* 2014-15 - Mignolet: 28 goals in 21 games (1.3 per game) - 4 clean sheets)

Is Horn a viable option?

    I think it is time for Rodgers to go
    he used to be talented but playing 4 holding mids and bringing jose enrique back shows he is losing his judgement
    Lallana,Markovic,Can get no games

    An interim manager is needed till summer when we get AVB

    steve clarke
    sammi hyypia

  3. Two good options?
    Based upon winning or achieving what exactly?
    Not one of the three has achieved a single thing as manager, none are upgrades on Rodgers. If we replace him it needs to be with a proven achiever
    Your choices are as flawed asyour thinking in general

  5. Andre Villas Boas was sacked by Chelsea and Spurs.He can take his hat-trick of failure somewhere else!

  6. Origi can't even score in ligue 1 and has been awful this season for Lille, it's not going to get better in the PL...
    Can't believe we spent 10M on a player just because he had a tap-in in the world cup.

  7. Perhaps you're right- it just amazes me that after calling Rodgers clueless he follows it up with such nonsensical suggestions. Clueless indeed.
    Several LFC managers have failed to follow up their 2nd place finishes with a decent season after. That includes Evans, whose team played similar stuff to last year's team, Barnes, Beardsley Rush Aldridge etc, and Rafa, who won nothing for over 3 years before departing btw
    Unless it's a Simeone or someone similar, then leave BR to sort it out. Moving sideways just won't work

  9. There's been a comment somewhere else on this forum where it's been pointed out £30 odd million pounds net was spent in summer.
    We are trying to replace £75 mill worth of talent by increasing the squad, which we all moaned last year was crappy in its depth.
    Granted we are not doing great but apparently we had one of the most expensive benches people have seen in recent history on Tuesday night.
    That's quite good as the perennial under-stater once said.
    Brendan Rogers is young, 41 I believe, his brain is evolving, as are ours, I'm sure he'll catch up with his shit decisions as we all have regarding, building work, partners, taking loans, silly bets in Las Vegas, slapping that policeman that one time......etc - you know what I mean....

    His possession, attack play is really attractive and would be sorely missed, especially if he grows and becomes the manager we all hoped last yera he would become - and knee jerks are always with consequences; the grass is Always greener on the other side.
    Lets not jump out of the frying pan into the fire in haste.

  10. Will Sterling stay??? If he does decide to offering 70k per week does not reflect his importance to the club!

  11. Brighton are near the bottom of the championship and you want Hyppia.

  13. Exactly. Maybe when Brighton sack Sami he can come be our defensive coach

  14. If we can't get a proven alternative i.e. Petr Cech, then yes. Followed by a striker I hope so we don't have to wince every time Sturridge sprints !
