I want LFC: €10m star admits he 'dreams of playing for Liverpool' one day. Sign?

Genoa captain Luca Antonelli has revealed that his long-term goal is to play for Liverpool.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport on Friday, 27-year old Antonelli enthused:

"I dream of playing for Liverpool one day.

"Anfield is like the [Stadio Luigi] Ferraris, with the Kop similar to our Curva Nord.

"But I'm still young, and there will still be time to talk about that further down the line".

Despite Kolo Toure's positive influence in recent games, Liverpool's defence still needs major surgery, and Antonelli is clearly putting himself in the frame as a possible solution.

Some info about Antonelli:

* 102 apps for Genoa.
* Can play left-back and centre-back.
* 17 goals/assists for Genoa.
* 7 apps for the Italy national team.
* 7 injuries since 2011, missing 41 games along the way.

In a recent interview, Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini hinted that Antonelli could leave the club at some point in the near future. He told reporters:

"Antonelli? At this time it remains to be seen whether he'll move to a bigger team, but we're glad to have him here right now"

Antonelli has captained Genoa to the heady-heights of fourth place in Serie A this season, and with only 12 goals conceded in 13 games, the club has one of the best defensive records in the league.

It remains to be seen whether Antonelli's public 'come and get me' plea will cut any ice with Rodgers, but give it a couple of days, and the UK press will inevitably link him with Liverpool.

  1. Plays in Gasperini's 3-4-3. I'm always weary of converting players who do well in a really specific system to a more typical system, like the 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 we've played in the past.

I'd be even more dubious about him performing in our "fucking hell, we're shite, lads" system that we've favoured this season.

  2. Certainly not a bad player, but we have LB solved long term with Moreno and Enrique is a capable backup. However, if Enrique's play doesn't pick up since his injury, Antonelli would be a good shout for our rotation option.

  3. What if he's better than Enrique? Enrique seems pretty unreliable now with injuries anyway

  4. Completely OT- does anybody watch Arsenal Fan TV? I highly recommend it.

  5. Two shots on target the whole match yesterday. Rodgers signed Lambert to be on the bench and now plays him as a loan striker. Borini is not everyone's cup of tee but at least he has some pace and endurance to press up top whereas Lambert is not doing much to that effect and only slows us down.

Rodgers is showing that he is nothing but a one trick pony. We have good enough players to beat Sunderland at home. There should be no excuses.

  6. Season written off. Worse team I have seen in 34 years as pool fan. No balls, no confidence, panic passing and careful sideway passing and no penetration. Call that soccer - and in "This is Anfield"? The team has got their heads off their necks. Lallana is weak and falls off easily. Surprisingly only Lucas stood out with Sterling. Rest of 9 players suck.

  7. Lucas has been good but we need better. Stoke, Leicester and Sunderland did not really test us. He makes far too many rash tackles, is to slow and gets overrun all the time. Saying that, he is our best option for the holding role at this point but would still like to see Can given a chance at the role who is strong, has an eye for a pass and has the legs.

We need a player of Matic's quality for the holding role.

  8. I have subscribed the channel just to watch Bully

  9. For those who are giving Markovic stick, when he came on the momentum of our attacking play was on a totally different level. Why the hell this guy is not being used as a striker is beyond me. He is quick and has really good link up play. Sterling and Markovic up top vs Lambert up on his own? Somebody play call a taxi for Rodgers.

  10. I like Bully, but Claude is my favourite. Especially when he's putting stupid Ty in his place.

  11. He is not being inventive enough, and then when he is, he's way too slow. Gerrard should have been a sparingly-used attacking player weeks and weeks and weeks ago.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Whether Gerrard should have been used as an impact player weeks ago would have made no difference.

If the same starting eleven of yesterday was playing let's say Chelsea, what do you think would have happened.

Our last two wins = paper over the cracks. Rodgers is clueless.

  13. Team i would like to see vs Basel

    ---------------Mignolet---------------
    Manquillo Toure Sakho Moreno
    ------Coutinho-Can-Allen---------
    ---------------Gerrard---------------
    --------Sterling-------Markovic----

Henderson has completely gone off the boil and maybe needs a rest. Gerrard has shown that he still has much to offer as a no 10. Coutinho is our creative spark. Emre Can deserves a chance when looking at recent performances and Allen brings loads of energy despite still being one of the most hated players in our team. Sterling and Markovic are our quickest forwards so stick them two up top. Pace and mobility from back to front.

  14. Maybe we would have conceded less goals...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Play Lucas instead of Allen in a diamond and that is a good team.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Conceded less? Stoke, Leicester and Sunderland hardly caused us any problems. Let's see how the same lineup vs Sunderland does against opposition who are outscoring the 3 above mentioned teams.

  17. You said weeks ago, not days...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I would not change a thing about my team. Combination of Coutinho, Can and Allen will provide endurance, energy and creativity. Lucas unfortunately provides the least amount of creativeness which is what our team desperately requires.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What difference does it make when the teams i have mentioned did not cause our defence any major trouble. The same lineup yesterday would have been throttled by a team like Chelsea or City.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ...Won't even bother.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I dont rate our chances against Basel at all but to have any chance must plat Markovic - Lambert makes Tommy Smith look lightning quick. I dont know about you but it looks more and more like a conspiracy re Super Mario - dont think there is NOTHING wrong with him - we are stalling until January. Why the hell pay 2O MILLION for Markovic and not play him ? We have been mega borring this season -and B R is the reason

    ReplyDelete
  22. But, he provides the most solidarity. You state that teams have not scored against us because they are poor attackingly but Stoke just scored 3 against Arsenal and could have scored more. Teams like Crystal Palace are not exactly free scoring and yet they scored 3 goals against us. Lucas is a must for me otherwise I think we have no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Let's see how the same starting lineup does against quality opposition.Stoke, Palace, Sunderland and Leicester have scored less than us and did not cause us much trouble. You unfortunately are not convincing me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. They beat us so really do not know what your point is plus they hardly put any pressure on us either because they did not have to.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Up until BR is in charge as manager of LFC we will be playing as mid-table/bottom half team. He will keep on buying players that make no impact but income for themselves. If we can't beat Sunderland at home, we deserve nothing but the boot.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No more money on center halves
Right now Liverpool have their major problem up front we need Wilfried Bony

    ReplyDelete
  27. BR continues to rant about desperate Balotelli signing. Not sure what he is trying to achieve here.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Coutinho is a defensive liability playing there swap him and Gerard.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Coutinho is not there to fill the defensive job. Can and Allen are there to shore things up. Coutinho is there to create some magic which he is more than capable of. Lallana goes missing as much as all our other attacking players have but Coutinho has that magic about him which Lallana lacks. We wasted £25m on Lallana instead of signing a proper striker.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rodgers has talked too much this season and done too little. Simple.

    ReplyDelete
  31. We do but I believe we already have the players... BR is the problem. He insisted in playing Balo up front by himself when he could of partnered him with Borini, Markovic or Sterling.

People keep in saying Borini is no good yet last season he scored very important goals against top teams for Sunderland who were fighting relegation. Also he ran his heart out.

He would be the perfect foil for player like Balo but for whatever reason BR refused to play then, or any other combination.

Spending 20 mil plus on Bony is a waste as we will still have the same problem

    ReplyDelete
  32. You can paint it whichever way you want. We are not improving. If we were improving we would have beat Sunderland so keep on having a dig if you like. Makes no difference to mne.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes we should not have bought Lallana or Markovic but Rodgers had his mind set on the 4231 which has not worked.

    ReplyDelete
  34. markovic has more to offer than Lallana IMO. Lallana was a luxury signing just like Lovren.

Markovic at 20 can become far better than what Lallana currently is. We paid way too much for Markovic but the minutes he had vs Sunderland showed that he can offer something different. Our threat became much more when he came on vs Sunderland. Lallana was a complete waste of money. So was Lovren and Balotelli.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would play Borini instead of Lambert without a doubt. Lambert holds up the ball well but that is it. Slows us down and he hardly even gets a shot on target. He was signed to sit on the bench and that is where he should be.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's fair enough, I just don't get why BR has this thing against playing 2 strikers this season. On top of that what is the point of sending players out on loan for them to do well and then not give them a chance

    ReplyDelete
  37. We need pace up top and from the evidence vs Sunderland Markovic and Sterling are a threat.

I am getting tired of seeing one shot on target after an hour. It is absolute BS. Rodgers taking us all for the piss.

    ReplyDelete
  38. So far- Lallana with his poor form is outperforming Couts. And only piece of magic was from Lallana...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Your team does look good apart from, IMO, the elephant in the room; Sterling can't hit a barn door with a laser-sight at the moment.
Even so he still has to play.
If I could live in Footy Manager land for a minute, I'd bring back Jordan Ibe and see what he can do as an out and out striker. He's strong, quick, direct, good striker of the ball and he's already nearly scored as many as all our other strikers combined, admittedly in the Championship.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sorry but at £25m Lallana is an utter waste no matter how you want to wrap it. Lovren at £20m another waste. Balotelli at £16m also money pissed down the drain. Who will want to buy these players from us and who the will pay £25m for Lallana let alone £20m for Lovren. very expensive mistakes and have cost Rodgers his job without a doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Rodgers is sticking with Sterling out wide. What do you expect?

    ReplyDelete
  42. No doubt that Mr BR is our biggest problem. It is obvious, as the time pass by,that he has no plan and can not inspire the players.Despite Lovren has not shown quality so far,our main problem is the lack of creativity. We are so predictable and can not even create scoring opportunities.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lovren seemed like a great signing before the season began pricey but i thought was what was needed.
Markovic adds pace but not a lot else but when your struggling changes do need to be made.
Lallana may be ok does add creativity but i doubt he will ever justify the hefty price tag only time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's what I mean... Enrique was pretty okay before his form and injury problems. If he doesn't regain his fitness, the Antonelli would be a good replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I know, through the middle is where he hurts teams the most
    MIg
    Manquillo Toure ? Moreno
    Hendo Can Coutinho
    Gerrard Sterling
    ???
I'd like to see something like this vs Basel (if I could press "Save" first in my FM fantasy land) and press them really hard from the 1st minute, other than SG who'd I'd love to see just keeping in space and release fast players running past him

    ReplyDelete
  46. Gerrard is still good aswel Rogers just needs to learn how to get the best out of him now he is ageing, with the correct resting and fitness regime, Gerard will be able to continue to be a world class player for a good few years then become a coach for us. Ynwa .

    ReplyDelete
  47. I meant that Lucas did well against Real Madrid but I might have misread your comment.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was trying to point out that defensively, we have improved. The last time Lucas didn't play, we were smashed 3-1 at Palace. It's been obvious that with Lucas and Kolo, our defence has generally looked more cohesive and organised. Our attack is a whole different story.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This is a joke right? we can not defend if we dont have someone like Lucas sat in front of our back four. it just wont work. You can have Coutinho, Can and Allen playing as a flat midfield. Can is attack minded and so is coutinho with Allen somewhere in between. That line up would cost our place in the first knockout round im afraid
