Next Manager? - FSG's 'shock' No. 1 choice to replace BR responds to LFC rumours

With Brendan Rodgers under intense pressure after the club's ignominious exit from the Champions League, former Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas is currently linked with the Liverpool manager's job, but is he interested in taking over at Anfield?

On Monday, The Times claimed that:

* AVB is currently FSG's leading candidate to replace Rodgers at Anfield.

* The group have asked AVB to 'provide details of his coaching methods'.

This is an absolutely terrible idea, but thankfully, Villas-Boas doesn't appear to be interested. Indeed, when asked on Tuesday about the Liverpool rumours, he told reporters:

"I’m very happy at Zenit. Returning to England is not in my plans"

Finally, some good news after last night's capitulation against Basel (!)

Ex-Red Danny Murphy summed it up best this week, when he told TalkSport:

"It would be a shock [but] AVB would not be on the list of 20 managers next for LFC. It’s ridiculous. He failed at Chelsea, he failed at Tottenham so why would you take him at Liverpool?”

Amen.

If AVB really is FSG's top choice to replace Rodgers, then Liverpool's owners have clearly learned absolutely nothing over the last four years.

Be afraid. Be very afraid...

  1. AVB would be terrible. Just plain terrible.
Maybe as a last resort, but even then I'd just stick with BR until someone becomes open to a move.

  2. It will never happen.

  3. This is not serious is it?... surely

  4. the Times should stick to financial/ political blab

  5. I find it hard to believe that FSG would really consider AVB. Wasn't he on the last shortlist? If he wasn't suitable then, why would he be first choice now?

If we had to choose a replacement
    i would want Avb
but right now Rodgers is still right manager

would LOVE AVB as manager !

  8. He never failed at Spurs the owner panicked after the liverpool hammering Rodgers deserves the rest of the season. Buy a goal scorer win the eufa cup which means CL qualification- ps don't let Rodgers pick a third rate goal scorer.

  9. ROGERS AND AVB ARE HOPELESS RATHER WE SELL THE OWNERS AND MANAGER,THEN STEAL PEP WHO WILL SHOW US THE WAY. IMMPOSSIBLE YEAH I KNOW

  10. I'm not in favour of AVB taking over Rodgers (or anyone taking over from Brendan at this point) but to dismiss him as a managerial non-entity is unfair.

He made mistakes at Chelsea, but whilst he dug his own grave, the players threw him in it and piled on the soil.

It eventually went South at Spurs, but he still set their record points total. We're also talking about a man that hauled winless bottom of the league Academica up to 11th place at the end of the season, in Pulis-esque fashion. He followed that up by winning a European title (the UEFA Cup) and a league title, during which his team went unbeaten for the whole season.

It looks like he's now going to win the Russian title with Zenit, their first for 3 years.

He's not my choice, but he's not a numpty.

  12. Still no Article about the 'transfer committee' yet were supposed to discuss seriously AVB ?
When I see a artcle by Jaimie or anyone looking to what's REALLY GOING ON behind the scenes in terms of signings, then I'll start take articles like this seriously.
It's not just Brendan Rogers, its Ian AYRE and the SECRET ILLUMINATI OF THE LFC TRANSFER COMMITTEE.
As a fan and former season ticket holder we need to ask HOW THESE TRANSFERS WERE DECIDED.
No point in SACKING ROGERS if the people BEHIND the SCENES just carry on with a new Manager/Coach.
No articles on comments on the NET SPEND like we had under Rafa I notice.
I'm breaking ranks if this continues and will start calling out those who remain silent on the real issues which are not being DEBATED.

  13. I think its a committee who can't even agree on one name

  14. Wish it was then Christmas wouldl be over. Bah humbug

    ReplyDelete
  15. The 'transfer committee', an idea of Fenway Sports Group, includes chief executive, Ian Ayre, Michael Edwards, the head of analysis and the head of recruitment, Dave Fallows. Rodgers has final say on signings.....Lets START DISCUSSING THAT FIRST SO WE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AGAIN

    ReplyDelete
  16. hey Gilly..hence why I'm asking for a debate about how these decisions are made.

    ReplyDelete
  17. avb has the proflie of a manager which appeals to fsg....astute ,smart sponsor friendly but with no clue on transfers

    ReplyDelete
  18. for me rodgers makes them end of debate....the rest of the goon squad may do the leg work but ultimately imo its down to buck

    ReplyDelete
  19. they where for special posters only by invite hence you missed out

  20. I believe AVB has no intention of returning to EPL football any time soon and why would he total flop.

  22. Sack BR... then what? Will magically win the league and Cham League?.. And if we dont, what then? Sack the manager again? We are playing terrible since the start of the season no doubt. Just dont hurt your ankles jumping back on the band waggon when we start winning again.

  29. What a dumb idea just get a proven top class coach who is acute in the tranfer market and can get the best out of players FSG need to stop thinking short term about saving a little money on wages just think about the success and money they would earn if they signed coaches like Klopp or de boar long term they are both young and have brilliant attacking football styles

I have been a massive Rodgers fan
but yesterday showed me that Rodgers is not the same Rodgers

4 holding midfielders when we need a win vs basel they can draw makes no sense
    Enrique playing ahead of Moreno?

Markovic,Can,Manquillo and Lallana getting no chances .

A new manager will get them all playing
Yesterday was the team selection of a wimp

  36. Every player JK mentioned is on another level to Steven Gerrard as a leader.SG had the armband, but most know Sami Hyypia and Carra were the real leaders during most of Gerrard's time as Liverpool captain.
Never mind being amongst the elite, Gerrard isn't even the best leader we have at the club now.I think Kolo Toure is better.
I wish fans would take the emotional attachment they have for players out of their potential next manager thought process.Even though your only talking about a short term role.Stop thinking with your heart.
No short term positions! When FSG replace Brendan Rodgers, we need a man with managerial experience and a good track record in the transfer market.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You thought I was talking about wining the Champ league this year 😳 wow.... Not sure if you remember but we were in there THANKS TO BR

    ReplyDelete
  38. Gerrard is no leader? What the hell are you talking about? He's one of the most revered, celebrated captains in the world. Every bit of success we've had in the last ten years Gerrard has been at the heart of, often driving the team on almost single handedly. He may be too old now to do that but to say he's no leader is nothing short of ridiculous. I really often wonder if you even like Liverpool. You're posts, as well as being an affront to the English language, are generally very anti-Liverpool but to say Gerrard is no leader is nothing short of laughable.
I'll go back to ignoring your posts again but I just couldn't let that one slide. Show arguably our greatest ever player a little respect, if nothing else he deserves that

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah does extend more than you would expect but perhaps he really put some energy in it and I get the feeling the time he has spent out of the team he has been doing work on being more physical as from the moment he got on the pitch he was shoulder barging etc. It was something missing from his game prior to being left out and it may be new to him. It sort of reminded me of when a striker does a slide challenge and gets it horribly wrong. Thay is how I saw it at first and although my resolve has lessened since swing the vine on this site I am still willing to give him the benefit ofvtje doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Don't forget Hamman and Dudek

    ReplyDelete
  41. That nonscence argument doesn't wash with me. I seem to remember 90% of our team playing out of our skin.... We won our first 8 or so games with out Suarez... If that is your belief then why is he not tearing it up at barca? I think he only has 1 goal so far

    ReplyDelete
  42. Gerrard may well be our greatest player but for me hes no captain ....i dont see him organizing the defense or shouting players into position maybe your idea of a captain differs from me if so get over it

    ReplyDelete
  43. anyone can drop a player but making them tick is something else

    ReplyDelete
  44. dont take it personal its an opinion liverpools display with Gerrard as captain this year have been dreadful thats just a fact

  45. Add another 1 to Suarez tonite

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  47. But then how do we crack the code? ;(

  49. Bring back Rafa, he is the only world class manager for us. He will come with no guarantees, just because he is a "Red". Nobody else on this level will come to Liverpool now. The distance between us and the top level clubs don't leave us many choices...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Fair enough. I think he brought some energy to the game and want to see more of him. Hopefully there is plenty of time for him to show what he is capable of.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wasn't he also the youngest manager to win a European trophy? Considering how young AVB is, his achievements trumps those of Rodgers (who basically has none). I believe he was thrown under the bus at Chelsea and unfairly sacked at Spurs. Not my choice right now either, but as you put it, it's not right to instantly dismiss him. If this view was maintained and AVB was hired at Liverpool, it would just be the Chelsea situation over again with a lack of respect for the manager.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Diego Simeone is really the only guy I would consider sacking Rodgers for, however I would not do this at this stage of the season, it really would not make to much difference right now, without a striker fit we will always struggle.

I can't help but feeling that whoever is responsible for transfers really needs to be accountable for the introduction of so many players in one window, and here is the bit I worry about most, will this lesson be learnt, January will come, will we panic buy?or will we have the balls to pay good dollar for one new top class buy!

A leader in the back 5 is needed, personally the goalkeeper in my view

    ReplyDelete
  53. Good point re: lack of respect.

There are legitimate issues with AVB and I'm not dismissing them, but equally, people shouldn't dismiss him. By the end of the season, he'll be 37 and by that time will probably have won 2 domestic league titles (as long as Zenit's domestic form holds) and a major European honour.

    ReplyDelete
  54. ah...classic case of nevergonnacrackthecodeaphobia.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Don't see much evidence of super powers though - quite the contrary;-)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think Gilstrap is right.Peoples definition of football leadership varies. Some think a great leader is someone who only leads by example on the pitch.
I look for more.Good organisation and encouragement for others makes a top leader too.Intelligent decision making should be factored into the equation if you think a follow my example leader is king.Steven Gerrard's pass selection is not the best.
SG's put the club on his back and carried us over the line a few times. But i think some have fantastic performances confused with great leadership.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Easy Rafa Benitez or Klopp . With Rafa we will be top 4 club constantly and with FSG at least he wont have to sell before buying .
He would attract World class players .
Same with Klopp maybe Reus and few others might follow .
I cant get my head around Rodgers not having striker on bench and taking one of against Basel .Should of had a youth kid on even if he had nothing.

To be honest, it would be an excellent move if FSG asked AVB for a dossier on his teaching methods. It would provide an insight into how else Liverpool can be worked at no cost (because in the end I don't think you want him) and give BR some pressure to perform.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Well you and Gilstrap are entitled to your opinion but pretty much everyone involved in the club past and present, as well as the larger football community disagree with you. As Suarez said last season "there's only one captain at liverpool"

    ReplyDelete
  60. Then why was the captaincy taken off Hypia and given to Gerrard if he's not a real leader as you claim? And why has he kept the captaincy through numerous managers reigns? And don't say because of sentiment because that is quite frankly ridiculous

    ReplyDelete
  61. I don't think Rafa would be so open to just leaving Napoli mid-december, and Klopp has been worse than BR this year...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hey, let's give liverpool to someone who spent a hundred mil on players the chance to spend here! Dont see the difference between Rodgers though. Would be going a step back even. But its just banter, right?

    ReplyDelete
  63. What are you talking about... There's definitely an I in team

    ReplyDelete
  64. Bring benitez back r a Gerrard Carragher double team wudb great

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't remember the article, but, 92% of all BR signings at liverpool have turned out to be fails. Thats a system that doesn't work. Just doesn't. And to make matters, we lost a world class player as well. BR can't handle transfers, period.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I wish the whole sad business goes away. BR has no strike force. DS is as frail as crystal. He should have stood his ground against Balo, and passed on Lambert. Maybe FSG will listen to him now and get him a proper striker or two.
One thing he should do now is surround Gerrard with Markovic, Can, Moreno, PC, Sterling and Borini. SG can be the brains and the young guys can run. Can't be worse and I never want to see Balo or Lambert on the field again.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Dortmund have had crazy injuries not to mention losing their best player every year. Despite this, they have managed to qualify for the last 16 of the CL so he can't be all bad and is certainly better than BR. The man is a winner, knows how to build attacking, balanced teams. 2 back to back titles against Bayern is no mean feat nor is a Champions League final. We'd be lucky to have him 'cause we are crap.

    ReplyDelete

Why don't you write a guest article and enlighten us all?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Not one of the best attacking players in England let alone the world and I'd take many of our past glorious captains over Gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I saw him clapping at a few players last night. Surely that makes him a good leader?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Players that are still performing. He didn't phase them out, he just dropped them and couldn't accommodate them in his inflexible plans. He didn't want to deal with those players that already knew him form his time at the club, those players with influence and authority. Rodgers would play them all until their legs fall off.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Gerrard was rubbish last night aside from the goal. Why surround him with anyone? Why must he be at the centre of anything?

    ReplyDelete
  73. JockInTheKop, I don't need to be told what I can and can't say by you or any other forum moderator!
Your question isn't exactly difficult to answer.Think about it.LIVERPOOL football club and Gerrard comes from where... Being a local lad played a huge part in that decision. It was a popular media driven appointment and the power of support made it happen. Some fans obviously have difficulty distinguishing who's a better leader.
Do you really think Gerrard would've taken over from a natural better leader in Hyypia, if he had the same talent but was foreign?!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Nobody connected to Liverpool has anything bad to say about Steven Gerrard. That's not because he has no weaknesses. They just choose to overlook bad points.
Misplaced Hollywood balls are the targets fault, for not being on the same wavelength:) His poor performances get swept under the carpet, but others get attacked.
Are you seriously using Suarez as a player of sound judgement.I couldn't give two hoots what others think, I'm not a sheep.I have my own views and i can't get pushed onto the media train with supporters or overly respectful players, past and present.
Giving views on others players is a politically correct sport anyway. That's why we hear foreign stars in other leagues talking about how good some English players are.If they tell the truth it gets blown up by the media, so they give the answer the journalist expects.
If what others think is so important in your decision making, Jamie Carragher said on Monday Night Football a few weeks ago Liverpool have no leaders!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Maybe so Pete i dont see it as a good career move for him personally anyway he is doing well at Zenit why go back so soon when your young trying to rebuild a reputation.

    ReplyDelete
  76. They achieved more under the guys J.K mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Because of his vision and game sense.

    ReplyDelete
  78. better get klopp from dortmund, avb is worse

    ReplyDelete
  79. Lambert was poor, but he needs service just like any front man. He doesn't fit our system so that is Rodgers fault. Where have Gerrard's game sense and vision been all season? Cause I ain't seen it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. How is this "a shock" when it's been all over the web for the past week...ah the hyperbole....

    ReplyDelete
  81. Haha I liked that last bit. Fair enough Beast I'm feeling a bit calmer this morning and you make some very valid points although your "if he was foreign" point is moot by the fact he was the England captain as well.
The captain at a club like Liverpool has a lot more responsibility than just organising the defence. Also having spent the majority of his career as an attacking player it wouldn't have been possible for him to be doing that hence the need for other leaders on the pitch, your Carraghers, Hypia's of this world because the captain can't do everything himself.
You can't underestimate the impact he has on the players off the pitch as well. Who he is in the dressing room and on the training ground. He's also had the ability to attract star players.
Ultimately I can't think of a club more synonymous with their captain and he's almost single handedly kept Liverpool on the map over the years. My point is, you say you don't listen to what people say about him and judge him solely on the pitch, which I'll grant you, is where it really counts, but it is seriously underestimating the other responsibilities that come with being Liverpool captain.
Carragher and Hypia were brilliant organisers and leaders on the pitch, probably better than Gerrard in that way but they could never have the impact on the other players that Steven Gerrard has had over the years

    ReplyDelete
  82. Some codes aren't meant to be cracked

    ReplyDelete
  83. GERRARD HAS GIVEN UP EVERYTHING FOR LFC. REAL MADRID, BARCELONA, CHELSEA AND MANCHESTER ALL WANTED
HIM AND HE STAYED TRUE. NOT MANY DID, HE DOESNT DESERVE WHAT SOME FANS ARE SAYING. GERRARD IS STILL GREATEST EVER LFC PLAYER. :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. I knew you'd bring up SG being England captain. It sounds to me like you admit Gerrard isn't the best on field leader, but you give him more credit for off the pitch stuff.
That's exactly the type of captain England likes to be their front man.A superstar name and decent media person who says the right things. The national team also lacks natural born leaders because they can't buy a captain like a club team can do.
Another media driven appointment.SG was the best of a average bunch.Players sometimes get the captaincy off their popularity or star power.Wayne Rooney has the armband now.Is he really the best leader England have? The answer is no.So let's not use Gerrard being the England captain as a solid foundation for any argument.
Steven Gerrard is able to attract star players to Liverpool... I wish he could.Lets be honest, most of our signings have been a level below Liverpool standards and what most fans expect.

    ReplyDelete
  85. it would explain why rodgers seems to refuse to play new players. Why continue with Johnson, Enrique, allan, lucas etc Can, Lalana, Moreno, etc benched or not even in the squad, players like Llori, alberto, aspas loaned out.
Maybe Rodgers didnt want these players and obviously doesnt trust them. There is no other rational explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I didn't really mean now but in the past he had the capacity to attract star players, whether or not the club acquired them is a different matter.
Ultimately Gerrard has been a brilliant captain and figurehead for this club

    ReplyDelete
  87. At first I was going to support your request for names of the Transfer Committee (TC) but I held back and read Jaimie's reply which said definitively that BR has the final say. That being the case -subject closed!

Whatever one's view on the issue I am certain that the TC was not the prime mover to recruit Allen, (Siggurdson) or Borini. I'm sure also it was only BR who was so determined to get rid of Carroll. All in all I am satisfied that the manager decides who comes in, who goes out and most certainly who is chosen to play. Does anyone who takes the time to write to this site really believe anyone but BR decided to keep our top summer signing, Adam Lallana, on the bench for the whole match on Tuesday!
The team selection was incredible. For a match we needed to win my starting selection would have been:

    Mignolet

    Manquillo Skrtel Lovren Moreno

    Sterling Henderson Gerrard Coutinho

    Lallana
    Lambert

Subs: Jones, Leiva, Johnson, Can & Allen

May I make it plain I am not taking over selection from BR :-) but just expressing a choice. I believe a team like the one above should be given play-time or they will not bed in this season. Coutinho has lost his way since injured at Swansea last season and then moved infield. He has not the upper body strength for that position and should revert to an out and out left winger.

    ReplyDelete
  88. How about Raffa as manager and Gerard Houllier as Football Director. Both have unfinished business. And for goodness sake let's give the "Kids" a chance, as some are a hell of a lot better than current team.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'd take Rafa back in a heartbeat, a passionate, experienced manager who loves LFC, I honestly think he could stabilize the club and stop the freefall we now seem to find ourselves in. I know many say don't look back for the answer but I really do believe he is one of the best options out there. At the end of the day we have to be realistic, some of the managers mentioned in connection with the job are already doing very very well where they are, Rafa would not need any persuasion. He is LFC through an through.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Didn't we beat his team 5-0 in their own backyard last season?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Klopp is superb and I agree with your assessment, but I'd still like to see BR as LFC manager.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yip he had to settle for 150k a week and hero-worship at Liverpool FC, poor dear.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Come to think of it, that is what got him the sack at Chelsea. That's probably why Rodgers has taken so long to even rotate Gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  94. i thought he was praying

    ReplyDelete
  95. Markovic deserved his red??? OMG have you ever actually put on a pair of boots and played football Jamie? His arm comes out to prevent the player coming back at him, He did look back and the player was still there, so to make sure he did come back and nick the ball off him he tries to block his path. Except...the player wasn;t coming quickly enough. Not that markovic could see that.
What would you say if he had looked around, then presumed he'd beaten the player. Only for the player to come back at him and nick it off his toe. I bet you'd be saying he needs to be stronger.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Just seen exactly the same type of incident in the Everton game.
    Surprise surprise......no red card!

    ReplyDelete
  97. We all appreciate what hes done just like many other greats of the club to which you are in my view are disrespecting greatly.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Possibly because he's one of the greatst players in the history of he club. Who should be at the centre? Allen? Lucas? Johnson? Lambert? Mediocrity everywhere you look.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Well expressed, sir.

    ReplyDelete
  100. What a surprise Jamie K. Yet another post that doesn't breach any rules has been taken down.

    ReplyDelete
  101. If I (the manager) WANT a caramel slice. But you (the committee) offer me a bakewell tart or a french fancy then I (the manager) will have FINAL SAY and choose a bakewell tart. Only problem is....I (the manager) DOES NOT have want I wanted....a caramel slice.
These are NOT BR's signings. BR DOES NOT choose all these players, the committee give him a selection of players he can choose from. BR has final say and chooses one. Except that doesn't mean BR has got the player he WANTS it means he's chosen from the selection he was given!

Your assertion that BR has constantly got it wrong is incorrect.

Can you please explain the Balotelli transfer?

BR has a certain type of player with a certain profile that he likes. Balotelli is not this type or profile of player. Could you explain to me why BR has turned his back on his philosophy for just this one transfer, just this one time??

    ReplyDelete
  102. I find this to be interesting comment Jamie.

.........The notion than the likes of Ian Ayre and a couple of scouts can make decisions over the manager's head is utterly preposterous, and only rank amateurs would allow such a flawed model........

The reason I find it such an interesting comment is because that is THE model that most clubs on the continent work with. Barca, Madrid, Milan, Juve, Bayern, ALL have this model. As do all the other TOP clubs in Europe.

Are you telling us that all of these outfits are...."rank amateurs"???

    ReplyDelete
  103. What those clubs do has absolutely nothing to do with LFC. Plus, you are generalising once again - you have no proof to support the contention that players are signed over the manager's heads at Barca, Real, Juve etc.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'm not wasting any more time with this. You wilfully ignore factual comments from Rodgers and Ayre about how the committee works to perpetuate a preposterous conspiracy theory that has absolutely no foundation in fact.

    Knock yourself out!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Jamie that's just not true at all. It seems to me that you have your own agenda in terms of BR and your lack of belief in him. And that's cool, it's entirely YOUR opinion. However, if you are going to perpetuate these negative thoughts then it's only fair that you and i have a reasonable discussion about it. Rather than you completely ignoring my points. Example....you still haven't offered me an answer to my Balotelli question.
Your assertion that your point of view is correct despite knowing no more about the situation then me or any other fan is hard to swallow. You have no more insight than I do. So why is your view more valid?

    ReplyDelete
  106. It's not my view; it's the view of Rodgers and Ayre. I will take their word for it over your wild conspiracy theories. They have both categorically stated that BR has final say on transfers, and that the committee does NOT sign players over the manager's head.

You have nothing to counteract that. Until you do, there is nothing to discuss.

The factual comments of Rodgers - the LFC manager - and Ayre - LFC's Chief Exec - supersede your baseless opinion.

  107. No they are nothing to do with LFC, thats very true. However....they are good examples of clubs that you suggest are "rank amateur".

Also, you say i have no proof that players are signed over a managers head.
Ok well answer me this then.....Why is it that the president of Madrid Florentino Perez is always in he media chasing players. Not Ancelotti. Equally you can read the same things about Barca presidents. Especially when those presidents are seeking re-election by the fans. Itallian clubs all have directors of football and Bayern have one too in rummenigge.
Also how many times over the years have you read about managers not happy about not being able to pick there own players. Especially at Madrid. Oh and aren't Madrid the most successful club in european competition.
(even if they did 'buy' the first 5 european cups)
The model your objecting to is the model most clubs are run by. It's only in england that its not done this way.

So while your right to say i have no PROOF. You wrong to suggest its not common knowledge that these clubs are run that way.
Equally you have no PROOF that the committee at LFC does not operate in this way too.

  108. You just don't get it, do you? The proof that LFC's committee doesn't operate this way comes from Rodgers and Ayre's statements on the topic. They categorically confirm that Rodgers has final say on transfers, and that the committee is only there to analyse potential targets.

You continue to ignore this, which is why your argument has zero merit. You can keep harping on about the same thing till the cows come home, but the fact remains that both Rodgers and Ayre contradict your subjective opinion on the subject.

Additionally, everything you've outlined in the above post about Perez etc means nothing, and proves nothing.

  109. Jamie. Do you understand the "caramel slice"
    analogy??

And why have you still not offered an explanation for the balotelli transfer.

Plus....you take BR's word for it??
Didn't he say that Balotelli will not be coming to LFC??
Are you saying that BR or Ayre have never given misinformation to the media?

  110. Your caramel slice analogy is irrelevant.

And yes, I take BR/Ayre's word for it. Why wouldn't I? Why would they lie? What do they have to gain? Nothing.

As for Balotelli. Your question is predicated on a false assumption, i.e. that Balotelli is somehow not the kind of player Rodgers would sign.

    Based on what?

A month before the signing, Rodgers publicly praised Balotelli:

"Balotelli is a big talent. I saw that in this time at Inter Milan as a young player and obviously going to Manchester City when we had a real close eye on him there. He's got all the qualities. He's 6ft 3ins, he's quick, his touch is terrific and he can score goals. He went back to Italy to play and he's still so young. If his focus is right, his concentration is right and he leads the lifestyle of a top player then he can play for any team in the world."

From this, we can glean that:

    * Rodgers really rated Balotelli before signing him.
    * He monitored him whilst still at Manchester City.

With this comment in mind, the Balotelli signing makes perfect sense. Rodgers clearly believed he could get the best out of him, so he signed him.

The idea that Balotelli isn't a player BR would sign is nonsense. He signed Lambert, who is closer to Andy Carroll than Balotelli - are you going to now argue that Rodgers had no say in the Lambert signing, too?

  111. Thank you squire

  112. That would be the same manager that said "Categorically Balotelli will not be an LFC player"?

Is it not common practice in football for all clubs and managers to portray a certain thing in public. Whatever that thing might be, whether its about transfers, finances, training ground bust up's. How many times have you heard a club say that a manager will not be sacked only for 2 days later to find that he has been.

Come on man, You simply cannot use statements made in the media as a basis of proof.

We all know that we're never really getting the full truth on anything.

So please stop clinging on to questionable, untrustworthy statements made in the press. as proof of anything. It simply is not proof at all. In court it would probably be deemed hearsay and so cannot be submitted as evidence.

Also do you actually understand the caramel slice analogy?

Let me try an dumb it down a bit.

BR does not pick from all the players in the world. He picks from the pool of players the committee has "narrowed down". If the player BR WANTS is not in the pool of players the committee has narrowed down, then he can't have him. He can only chose from the pool of players the committee has given him.

So yes BR has "final say" and picks the one he most wants out of the choice he is given.

The problem is, the player he might REALLY WANT might not even be in the narrowed down pool. And so there for he's always settling for second best, even if we get our number 1 target.

In addition, my comments about perez and other football clubs DO mean something and they DO proof something.

They were made because YOU said that only "rank Amateur" outfits would operate in this way. So I gave you a list of good examples of clubs that are far from "rank ameteur".

What this proves is, that it is you are not prepared to engage in a thoughtful examination of things with me. You refuse to answer my fair minded questions, such as the Balotelli question, and your not prepared to engage with me about this topic.

It seem to me that you have your opinion but are not prepared to enter a discussion about it. The only reason I'm questioning it is because that's what either side of an opinion do. They probe each others arguments to see why they hold that opinion. And hey...if you can give me some damn good reasoning as to why you or anyone else might hold a certain opinion, then there's a possibility you may even change my view too.
I'm not the kind of person to form an opinion, but then never reconsider that opinion to see if i still fell the same way about it.
I'm not arguing with you....i'm tryig to find out why you feel that way.

I get the feeling you have the wrong impression of me. I am NOT against you Jamie. I happen to 100% agree with you that signings have not been good enough.
Where I disagree is that BR is 'solely' responsible for this.
I read a quote the other day which summed things up for me.
"The club's much-maligned summer transfer dealings were authored by a shadowy behind-the-scenes collective, with the poor manager left to publicly carry the can..."

This seems to me to be fairly close to the mark...if not bang on.

Hopefully you and i can learn to debate things together without falling out!
