Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has an admirable history of blooding young players at Anfield, and the latest youngster to benefit from his 'give youth a chance' policy appears to be teenage right-back Trent Arnold.

In his pre-Madrid press conference earlier today, Rodgers noted that the 'entire squad' - including injured players - had travelled to Spain for Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

According to the official LFC site, 16-year old Arnold is not part of the first team squad, but he has trained at the Bernabeu with the first team squad.

Arnold doesn't even have a profile page on the LFC website, but here he is training alongside £31m-rated Raheem Sterling:

Given his age, it's highly unlikely that Arnold will play any part on the Madrid game (or even make the bench), but training alongside first-teamers like Sterling and Gerrard can only be a good thing for his development.

In August, Arnold captained the England U17 team at the Nordic tournament in Denmark, and after the game, he enthused:

“It was my first time captaining my country against Sweden. It was quite nerve-wracking, but I was so honoured to do it and be picked by the manager for such a vital role in the team".

Leadership potential is always a plus, and that's something that's seriously lacking in Liverpool's defence right now. Hopefully, leadership qualities are being prioritised and nurtured at the academy.

    this is what i wanted
a good performance for markovic might transform his career

    balotelli as well

i saw an intresting stat henry only scored 2 goals in his first 15 games so no reason why balo still cant be a hit

  6. It's not just the defence its lacking in, its the whole team. Gerrard needs other leaders to ease the burden.
