Shock Exit: Rodgers set to scrap 'desperate' £4m LFC star in January. Humiliation?

On Sunday, Liverpool star Rickie Lambert bagged his first Premier League goal of the season, but according to new reports, the striker's dream move to Anfield could be about to turn into a nightmare.

According to the Sunday Express:

* Lambert could be farmed out on loan in January, with his old club Southampton the shock favourites to sign him on a short-term deal.

* Rodgers will almost certainly bring in another striker during the upcoming transfer window, which will force Lambert further down the pecking order.

* Lambert needs to be playing regularly to ensure he keeps his place in the England squad.

This sounds like BS to me, but the logic is sound: if Liverpool sign, say, Jackson Martinez in January, and Balotelli stays (plus Sturridge gets fit), then Lambert will struggle for game-time (even more so than now). As such, a loan-move doesn't seem that far-fetched.

Southampton, though? Liverpool have already financed the Saints' march up the table, so strengthening their squad even more makes no sense whatsoever. Plus, after all the fanfare over Lambert's signing, it'll be something of a personal humiliation to leave Anfield so quickly, so I'm sure he'll resist a loan move.

It seems that everyone expects Ronald Koeman's team to drop down the table at some point, but with Arsenal, Spurs, Man City, Everton, and Liverpool running hot-and-cold this season, Southampton could be the club to benefit, especially if the club strengthens again in the January transfer market.

On a related note: like Adam Lallana, Lambert is struggling with the mental requirements of playing for a massive club like Liverpool. Indeed, in an interview this week, he noted:

"I know the size of the club, it has taken me a while mentally to get into the right mind frame to be a Liverpool player. It was difficult at first but I feel I am in a better place now. I have just been desperate for the opportunity"

Maybe I'm being harsh, but this really gets my goat. Why do Liverpool continually sign players who seemingly can't hack the pressure and/or expectation? Why can't this problem be pinpointed in the scouting/player research process?

Liverpool have suffered as a result of the mental weakness of players like Lallana, Lambert, Lovren etc, and after almost 4 months of the season, their failure to hit the ground running has contributed to a situation where the club's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League are already in the toilet.

As for Lambert, as always, the important question is this: will his potential exit in January make any difference to Liverpool's forward progress? For me, the answer is a resounding NO, so I personally have no issue with him being sent out on loan.

  1. Nah I doubt it. Borini maybe but not Lambert.

  2. This wouldn't surprise me in the least, pool have a history of it but at least this isn't as big a screw up as the 57 million spent on carroll and keane in recent years. On another note, disgraceful interview from BR last night slagging off Gerrard, patronizing him, insulting him, calling him past his best in public... I bet Gerrard is raging today. It will be the final nail in BR's coffin... bring it on!

  3. Rodgers might not even be here in January. I think this club is far to big for Lambert but at £4m he is the perfect plan B.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Third choice striker. First choice out. Second choice desperately poor. He gets 180 minutes. Please don't say Lambert is not good enough..

    ReplyDelete
  5. Neither Lambert nor Borini should have been signed in the first place. But if only one were to be farmed out I think Borini would have to be favourite. - But the first man to get keel hauled should be Brendan Rodgers. He has spent over £200m pounds since coming to Anfield and what have we got? Just imagine what our team would have been like had he bought three £50m and two £25m players instead. What profligacy!

  6. I think a striker and a DM are priorities this January, or give the young ones a chance.

Maybe Song? Nab him off West Ham.

    ReplyDelete
  7. He did say that Balotelli would be joining as well...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Where is the link to this article where FSG have said it is not BR's fault that some of the players are up to scratch?

Lovren, Lallana and lambert where his buys. Almost £50m! We did not need Lallana, he is not even starting matches. Lovren has been utterly poor and Lambert well £4m is not a train smash but he is also struggling to make a proper impact.

Can, Manquillo and Moreno have settled very well and reckon Markovic if playing in a system other than the ghastly one Rodgers has persisted with might be a much better player.

  9. At least Balotelli cannot be played up on his own at the moment. Wait till he is back again :-o

  10. We have only ever done (from my fading memory) 1 transfer where a senior player comes in during the summer and leaves in January and my head is still spinning over that one! I doubt it will ever happen again as it smacks of incompetence..........which is what we are........... but why advertise it?

  11. Anyone see Suarez's goal last night? That moment of magic out of absolutely nothing is what forces teams to defend deep and concede the midfield to the opposition. If and when we can get Sturridge and Balotelli on the pitch together I think teams will also begin to concede the midfield to us by dropping deep for fear of SAB's pace movement and skill. SAB together are possibly the equivalent of Suarez on his own.

  12. ------Sterling-------
    Balotelli Sturridge

Spurs were found wanting. BR should of instead of spending £25m on Lallana gone all out for a player like Lacazette whio is one of the top strikers in France at the moment and offer 'something out of nothing' like Suarez did.

  13. Can't believe anyone would take seriously the Express, Star, Sun, Metro etc etc. To call what these rags put out 'News' is laughable ..... lmao

  14. I was of the opinion when Rodgers got the job that the club was to big for HIM and it looks like he is proving me right.... Staying in CL will keep him in a job otherwise it will be someone else spending John Henry's dosh in the new year !

    ReplyDelete
  15. Rodgers is as good as gone right now. Do not expect any money for new signings when we would need to pay out Rodgers for the remainder of his contract and then cough up the money for his replacement and possibly a DOF too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well Ricky tonight you have your chance to earn more game time and a longer stay at the club . Prove us all wrong and score the goals that keep us in CL . Good luck to night lads shite or bust !

    ReplyDelete
  17. That front three could be quite scary for defenders. We thrashed Spurs BUT everyone thrashes Spurs of late so maybe that performance wasn't as good as we think.

I just had a look at a video of Lacazette and his highlights do look good. I'm sure I saw Gomis' locks popping up from time to time too.

With regards to Lallana I'd like to see us try him up top and ask him to do a Suarez. He works hard, is creative and has flair. It would move us away from the orthodox side we have become and maybe give us that magic at the top end. BR would rather die than use his imagination though. He is as regimented and dogmatic as Rafa in his approach and could soon be close to losing the dressing for behaving like we only have 11 players capable of starting in the prem.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Watch his face ...... Is he bovered ? Will take his pay off and run to his much loved Spain . Won't be a big club that will have him tho !

  19. Listening describes an intentional activity. When you are listening, you are actively trying to hear something.

In contrast, hearing is something that happens without any
intentional effort. You can hear something even when you don't want to hear it and don't try to hear it.

These days I 'hear' BR :)

  20. Might is an awful strong word in regards to Markovic, hes been an absolute waste of £££ so far and does not look like a player thats capable of adopting to English football. Hope he turns it around though.

    ReplyDelete
  21. He does not have the invention to do the Suarez role. Suarez was everything. He could create, he could beat men at will and he could make clever runs. Plus, he had an underrated acceleration and had a belter of a shot. Lallana does not have the qualities to do it.His shots are too weak to be a striker on a regular basis. I was calling for Lacazette in the sumer ahead of everyone. He is pacy and deadly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And for Christ's sake a bloody GK

    ReplyDelete
  23. All of our players have been shite in this ghastly system Rodgers has persisted with. No fault of Markovic IMO. Put that player in a confident team and watch him destroy defenders with his pace.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Will not happen cauz BR will never accept that bringing Migs was his fault

    ReplyDelete
  25. Suarez was consistently brilliant in almost everything he did. Like you say he could do it all. I believe he is in the top two of best players in the world, even above Messi. I dont think Messi could do it all by himself in a physical and quick league like Suarez did for us. Footballing wise Messi was born with a silver 'xavi, iniesta and busquets' type spoon in is mouth.

I dont think Lallana is as good as Suarez but thats not what I'm looking for I'm looking to try things to find a formula that works. If you don't try how will we know. At the moment BR has 11-12 players he is prepared to start and believes he knows the best position for each.... he is wrong. Lucas came to us as an attacking mid and ended up as a defensive mid as did Arteta at Arsenal. On the flipside according to BR Sterling spent his time in the youth team as a striker and we have mishandled him in the first team by playing him out wide etc etc. Somtimes things need adjusting just to try and ignite some chemistry. If it doesn't work fair enough but what we are doing now isnt working either so wheres the harm I say.

    ReplyDelete
  26. BR is not playing the players to their strength.....First and foremost babysitting Gerrard has to stop or his job will be gone

    ReplyDelete
  27. We may as well loan out Lovren with him

    ReplyDelete
  28. What I don't understand is the exclusion of Emre Can over the weekend. The guy is a Juggernaut and you can see he wants to get stuck in.

I just hope we do not see Skrtel tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just watched Carra's thoughts on Liverpools mentality. When he said "no leadership on the pitch" he takes a deep breath and thinks to himself 'what the F$%@ have I just said.... SG is gona kill me....but I've started so i'll finish' lol he then goes on to qualify himself as being a liverpool fan and not showing bias towards the club :D . For the first time Carra grew a pair and indirectly had a pop at SG even though I dont believe he meant to let it slip.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ive upvoted this three times. I posted on Emre too a couple of days ago. Staggering the old boys club at pool.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gerrard IS past his best. We all know this. What would be patronizing and humiliating would be Rodgers saying publicly that Gerrard is as good and fit as he was at 25, when the world can see that Gerrard knows that isn't the case. Stevie G is a big boy; he can handle the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This in reply to Theycallmemrburt's post that was removed...

Stevie has been one of our best players ever but I think the time to call it quits is finally here. Pity that such a great player stuck with us when he could have won trophies non stop for another top team.

You got to give it to the bloke, unfortunately he has had too many stubborn managers that could not crack it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Its so sad that a player like Stevie G is gonna retire without a PL medal.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Not if Mourinho can help it. He is a massive admirer of Gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Doubt it I mean he let of Lampard

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can't see it. Borini or Balotelli wouldn't surprise me but I'd be surprised if Lambert was punted so quickly

    ReplyDelete
  37. Says who that a player like Stevie G is gonna retire without a PL medal.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Vs palace i was not confident and nothing has changed.

    ReplyDelete
  39. If he stays with us till his retirement which Iam sure he will but if he moves to another club he may win one

    ReplyDelete
  40. Almost impossible

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wish I could get excited about this game but I fear the worst. From Suarez to Lambert. Nohope.com

    ReplyDelete
  42. its even sadder that i have to work tommorrow

    ReplyDelete
  43. ill reserve judgement till i see the line up ,but either way i think we will struggle

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am lucky cauz I dont have college tommorw:p

    ReplyDelete
  45. We will see from the line up. if the three musketeers line up in defence, I will feel very sad for the fans making the trip to Bulgaria.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The difference is these guys are a lot better then palace.

    ReplyDelete
  47. hahahaha... Yes, they would probably be in Europa league spot in EPL. And go to Wembley, twice...
Amazing players, truly.. Hear that Munich are hoping they don't get out of the group as they might meet...

  48. Confirmed #LFC XI to face Ludogorets: Mignolet, Manquillo, Skrtel, Toure, Johnson, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling, Lambert.

    Same old same old.

    ReplyDelete
  49. substitutes: Jones, Lovren, Coutinho, Moreno, Lallana, Borini, Can.

  50. LFC Confirmed #LFC XI to face Ludogorets: Mignolet, Manquillo, Skrtel, Toure, Johnson, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling, Lambert.

    ReplyDelete
  51. And the myth of not playing Moreno begins

    ReplyDelete
  52. Johnson and Skrtel are best mates with Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  53. That sounds Gerrard further up the pitch. And maybe it will be a diamond with Sterling as a striker.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sack him already

    ReplyDelete
  55. Confirmed #LFC substitutes: Jones, Lovren, Coutinho, Moreno, Lallana, Borini, Can.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Johnson earns 130k per week

    ReplyDelete
  57. Another 3-1 is coming our way. Glenny boy cannot be dropped but at least Kolo is playing. Where is the creativity going to come from?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Of course, markovic does not even make it to the bench and Can and Moreno are the new targets of Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  59. 4 central midfielders with 2 not having the legs. Henderson and Allen are going to have their work cut out for them.

    Disaster waiting to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Lallana benched but Allen plays

    ReplyDelete
  61. Allen, Hendo, and Gerrard further up the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  62. This will be the formation
    Mignolet
    Manquillo-Toure-Skrtel-Johnson
    Lucas
    Gerrard-Henderson-Allen
    Sterling-Lambert

    ReplyDelete
  63. 4-2-3-2. Gerrard and Lucas holding.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Wow.. Palace fan by any chance?

    ReplyDelete
  65. No Can again god even more clueless

    ReplyDelete
  66. I love it. Was hoping for Gerrard on the right. This will also allow one out of Allen/Hendo to join attack, or both with Lukas covering.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Why are Can and Moreno being ostracized? Brendan, you have got problems man

    ReplyDelete
  68. Johnson over Moreno again

20mil on the Markovic and he wont even put him on the bench.

Sterling looked completely knackered against Palace but starts again.

Allen one the the better players against Palace and Dropped..

    Just stunned...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Moreno I agree. Can can wait.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Allen is playing mate. Lallana and Coutinho are not. if you thought our play against Palace was slow, then see this. Einstein will be amazed.

    ReplyDelete
  71. No way. at least I hope so...

    ReplyDelete
  72. I would have Can over Gerrard any day.. At least Can can actually run..

    ReplyDelete
  73. And do what with it? If played further up the pitch, there is nobody better in our team than him. For 60 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yes I am actually. Ludogorets have played far better football in the CL then us.

They have scored more goals, more shots on targets, more corners and had a real go at RM.

Unlike you I actually have respect for them.

    ReplyDelete
  75. i thought he benched moreno at weekend for champions league

    ReplyDelete
  76. Thank god Einstein is not alive to watch this BS

    ReplyDelete
  77. I watched them 6 times in past two years. Palace is Madrid for them. There is that momentum all small teams have when playing big games. But when it is make it or brake it for a serious team they crumble as bigger team is prepared. Like Basel smashed them and like we will.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You me like we smashed Basel.. oh that's right they beat us.

Also they beat Basel at Home...

    ReplyDelete
  79. Extra player, last minute lucky, veeery lucky goal. Basel is The game, this is preparation.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I want what ever you are smoking...

    ReplyDelete
  81. Get off the downers and you'll see it...

    ReplyDelete
  82. No, I just live in the real world unlike you

    ReplyDelete
  83. Gerrard is past his best!

    ReplyDelete
  84. For gods sake what does Johnson or Gerrard have to do to get dropped!!! Sleep with the managers wife?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Gerrard and Johnson need to get dropped I've had enough!! Now we have to listen to gerrards mates I.e pundits on sky sports sticking up for him

    ReplyDelete
  86. We'll see who is right... Supporter world, by the way

    ReplyDelete
  87. Just another of Rodgers' woeful signings. Must go whatever the result tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  88. That would probably guarantee them a place.

Sleeping with his girlfriend might get then dropped though - perhaps we can start a rumou

    ReplyDelete
  89. Skrtel allen and sterling should have been on the bench. I would like to see how a toure lovren partnership would work. Glad to see lucas starting.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Hahahahahahaha nice 1

    ReplyDelete
  91. And why would Balotelli play before Lambert. Balotelli offers nothing. Not in goals and not in personality. He is the worst transfer since Carrol and both him and the guy who signed him should be the first ones out the door on 1 January

    ReplyDelete
  92. There you go. Lambert has now scored as many CL goals as Failotelli and more League goals

    ReplyDelete
  93. I wouldn't go that far but yeah for me Lambert offers more. Especially after a run of games. I'm not sure he is the supersub we bought him for but he showed last year after a run of games he can do a good job. He is a clever player. Balo may technically be better but he has reminded me of Shelvey. Not enough brain.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Haha you're on fire today.

    ReplyDelete
  95. 2 goals in 2 games for Lambert now. I think he's a decent option to have.

Surely, the priority should be getting a replacement for Mignolet. He's just dreadful and that was shown again tonight as he was arguably at fault for both goals. He didn't even move for the second goal. He's just a little bitch who commands absolutely no authority of his box. Please, BR just have the balls to get rid and sign Petr Cech.

Alas, judging by his recent interview it appears Liverpool who no intention of signing anyone in January. I like BR and I think he's a brilliant young coach. However, he and the transfer committee have a hell of a lot to answer for given the amount of money we have wasted.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Lambert scored a decent goal on Sunday (from a great pass) but, come on, tonight was nothing more than a cock up by the Ludogrets defender. Lambert is about as mobile as an Oak tree I really don't get why we signed him - probably something to do with our clueless manager. Lambert, Borini, Balotelli, Iaspas, Allen, Lovren, Sakho - That's £93m worth of not much. Way to go Brenda. If I were Fenway I wouldn't give Brenda another penny to waste.

    ReplyDelete
  97. with todays goal in the CL brenda will keep his little ricky.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think the glaring flaw has been our overall transfer strategy. I was fine with signing Lambert OR Balotelli but why on earth did we sign both? Our entire attacking philosophy has been built upon pace and movement. So why sign 2 players who don't offer that and fail to adequately cover the only one who does provide that, aka sturridge?

    ReplyDelete
  99. As much as i HATE brenda and want him to suffer physical pain... he is correct. SG is way past his use-by date. He looks looks pathetic, slow and lost every game. I want him gone. I don't even want him as a sub. we have a long and storied history of clinging on the to past and suffering for it... and SG is the past...

    ReplyDelete
  100. He's not even a plan Z.... he is over the hill garbage that should not be allowed to even wear an LFC jersey...

    ReplyDelete
  101. You two are pathetic with your Brenda childishness
Dislike him by all means ,but grow up for pity's sake, you sound like a bunch of schoolchildren.
Do you really find it clever/funny/cutting?
Make your point without the personal stuff

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think the two starts have shown up this story to be a bit of nonsense. Lambert is filling his role and although a new striker in January would change that a bit there is still a place for him in the side. Rodgers said he's not looking at buying January but that could be just more Rodgers-speak to try and keep any transfer dealings quiet until they happen. Either way Lambert was always going to be a small part player and he's playing now, scoring goals so I doubt he's going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Sorry there peaches.. Did we insult your gf??

    ReplyDelete
  104. Oh my God, that's me put in my place.

You're way too sharp for me, what a put down...

My humble apologies- you sir, have a rapier wit.

    A barrister perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Despite the outlay over the summer, what is abundantly clear thus far is that there are still problem areas in our current squad. That said, we do not have bad players, so perhaps it is the coaching, training, and managing that needs to be looked at, but how is that to be critically evaluated if the manager is playing the 'everything's gonna be alright even though it's not' card? If it's true that FSG i backing the manager despite less than impressive performances, it makes little sense no to back him financially if the players he brings in are key assets, notably a defensive mid, if Lucas is going to be sold, and a self-reliant, hardworking striker, both of which Balotelli is not. Whatever it takes to inject some positivity into the team.

    ReplyDelete
  106. If you insult Rodgers again, or snipe at another poster, you'll receive a permanent ban. Stick to the comment policy, or go elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  107. who goes out i dont care but definitely this club needs a new outstanding striker to partner sturridge. No new striker were are doom to be between 12-15th position when season ends.

    ReplyDelete
  108. He keeps repeating that he takes full responsibility and then keeps putting out the same line up, with the same result. Makes me wonder if he's been tapped up and is goading FSG into paying him off?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Lambert is hardly pulling up trees so wouldn't be a disaster. On the other hand i don't see the point in depleting the squad further, just add to it and deal with the out goings in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I have been saying for some time now that attaching electrodes to his testicles would make him a better manager.

Mummy agrees with me too don't you mummy don't you

    ReplyDelete
  111. If i was the owner of LFC would i want BR to waste anymore of my money?...I will suprised if we bought anyone in jan.
