Amazing Stats: LFC plan new bid for 'fantastic' £26m goal-machine with 118 goals/assists in 124 apps

With Liverpool desperately in need of striker who can actually score, Brendan Rodgers is reportedly planning an urgent January move for CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia.

Liverpool were linked with Doumbia back in 2012, and according to The Mirror this week:

* Rodgers is 'considering' a January offer for Doumbia, who has a £26m release clause in his contract.

* LFC scouts watched 26-year old Doumbia score two goals in CSKA's recent 2-1 Champions League victory over Manchester City.

When asked on Thursday about Premier League interest, Doumbia's Agent, Bernard Beytrison, revealed:

"There is a lot of interest from England, Spain, Germany and Italy. He's a cannon and there are not many around like him, but now he is under contract with CSKA and other clubs have to satisfy them to talk to the player."

Some info about Doumbia:

* Current contract expires in June 2016.
* 21 appearances for the Ivory Coast.
* Six major trophies with CSKA.
* 4 'Player of the Year' awards.

* CSKA: 118 goals/assists in 124 apps (82 goals/36 assists)
* Goal every 1.5 games; Goal/Assist every 1.0 apps
* Young Boys: 79 goals/assists in 79 apps.
* Career TOTAL: 205 goals/assists in 234 apps.
* Goal/Assist every 1.1 games.

118 goals/assists in 124 appearances for CSKA? That's an amazing creative return, and it's not a flash-in-the-pan, either. Doumbia has a long track record of prolificity in front of goal, and if the Reds are to splash the cash on another striker, it should definitely be a goalscorer with prodigious stats like this.

CSKA midfielder Pontus Wernbloom is a huge fan of Doumbia, and in a recent interview, he hailed the Ivorian as a 'fantastic striker' who 'loves scoring', and further enthused:

"In Russia he [Doumbia] scores in almost every game. Ehen he is on the pitch he can beat any team because if they give us some space he is deadly"

Importantly, Doumbia is am established and experienced footballer, which is exactly the type of player-profile Liverpool should (IMO) be prioritising. Plus, at the age of 26, he's entering the prime of his career, so if signed, his best is (theoretically) yet to come.

Alas, there is one major issue:

* Doumbia has suffered FIVE injuries over the last two years.
* In total, he's spent 315 days injured, and missed 55 games.
* His last two injuries = thigh strains, just like Sturridge.

Doumbia has an incredible strike rate, but with this in mind, I don't see how Liverpool can risk spending £20m+.

  11. Seeing as FSG prefer younger, cheaper players… I’d highly recommend Vincent Aboubakar.
    I like the look of this 22 year old who recently signed for Porto.
    Big, fast, athletic… looks a real predator in front of goal.
    Won't hold my breath though... because sadly, we're not as smart as Porto.

  12. Martinez yes, but Doumbia seems like a Sturridge Mk 2, injury wise.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The Transfermarkt website shows that Alexandre Lacazette has not had any injury issues whatsoever plus he is a player who can create something out of nothing. We actually did show interest in him but he did not want to leave Lyon but we should really try to get him before another club does.

  14. Doumbia and Musa double swoop will be gud..we can repeat SAS partnership again

  15. Never mind January - B R nedds results to go his way in next 2 weeks or I fear he wont see January - Hope he is not stupid enough to play Mario upfront on his own tomorrow ??????

    ReplyDelete
  16. Balotelli is unlikely to play. Lambert up on his own which is going to slow down our play even further.

  17. Right now I'd settle for Berahino or Bony or anyone who knows the back of the net!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hasn't Bony signed new contract? He will be off to African cup shortly too. Wouldn't be surprised if Gerrard or Coutinho are our top scorer this season with 7 goals. Mignolet knows the back of the net pretty well - unfortunately

    ReplyDelete
  19. Bony was my choice since Luis Suarez did his last Grimlock impression in Brazil. He would have thrived and been better for the team than what we ended up i.e. Tricky Ricky and Super Mario.

    on the telly
    he loves r kelly
    he is sometimes very smelly

    when he plays he plays in a shelly

    but we need a front man as well

    .................................martinez
    lacazete............ sterling........lallana...........doumbia

    with origi,coutinho and ibe as back up
    seriously i am dying wow what an attack i am gonna pray for that
    looks nice to me we will have to cut our losses on markovic,balotelli and sell borini,lucas , allen

    ReplyDelete
  27. He could be down under like me, where it's Saturday night...speaking of which, why the f*** am I not drunk?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Swansea were probably holding everyone ransom for Bony's signature. Now that he has signed a year extension suggests that one massive buyout clause has been inserted. Will not be worth spending a massive amount when there are better players out there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. PEDRO,DOUMBIA,SHAQUIRI,NETO,CAVARLIO AND FIRMIO THATS WHAT WE NEED IN JANUARY

    ReplyDelete
  30. So that is about £180m, maybe more. Let me make the call to FSG and see what they say...

  34. B Rodgers main priorities in January should be:

    Shipping these SIX dead wood average players in January:

    B Jones(32) GK K Toure(33) CB G Johnson(30) RB

    L Leiva(27) DM Suso(20) AM F Borini(23) FD

    B Rodgers should be given whatever he can get on the sales of these players above and another £70M off the owners to bring in some experienced proven class quality, B Rodgers has wasted too much money on potential which has not come good for club over his reign.

    And now he needs to start bringing in established experienced players who are at the maximum level or about to hit their level, club needs the class, quality and consistency now not in 2 - 5 years time.

    And B Rodgers needs to bring in these three players as his First and Main Priorities: GK DM CM

    A Commanding GK: Someone who the back 4 rely and trust, who will command the box and have a presence about them.

    1: A Begovic(27) Of Stoke should be brought for £8-£12M to displace S Mignolet(26) from the first 11 and then for both of them to compete for the Number 1 spot week in week out.

    A mobile Tough tackling Defensive Enforcer/Midfielder to sit in front of back four, nulify attacks, break down plays, stop oppositions best attacking players dictate tempo and play and offering protection to back 4 that club so DESPERATELY NEED.

    2: Y M'Villa(24) Of Rubin Kazan( On Loan at Inter Milan) Or C Tiote(28) Of Newcastle , one of these mobile tough tackling enforcers needs to be brought to the club for £10-£14M

    A box to box, class, creative, goal scoring, Mobile Centre Midfielder is needed, A midfielder who is match winner , who can pop up with vital important goals in big games is needed.

    3: Y Cabaye(28) Of PSG should be brought for £14-£17M to compete with S Gerrard(34).

    And then B Rodgers needs to bring in these 3 class creative experienced goal scoring mobile pacey quick attacking players to squad for £59M: ( Amount Man United spent on one player: A Di Maria(26) )

    1: RWF/LWF: Pedro(27) Of Barcelona for £22-£27M to compete with R Sterling(19) Spanish International

    2: RW / LW: K Bellarabi(24) Of Bayer Leverkusen for £10-£15M to compete with L Markovic(20) German International

    3: FD: L Adriano(27) Of Shakhtar Donesk for £14-£17M to compete with D Sturridge(25) Brazilian International

    These three attacking players would bring more class, creativity, mobility, pace and speed to squad. And with these three attackers brought to club, if Sterling(19) and Sturridge(25) were to ever be out injured together. The first 11 could still field side with class, creativity, goals, mobility, pace and speed in the attacking third.
