Saviour? - Massive boost for LFC as 'incredible' £34m star confirms Anfield return

Rejoice! After 14 games on the sidelines with the 9th injury of his short LFC career, 'incredible' Reds striker Daniel Sturridge is finally on the comeback trail, which is potentially great news for Liverpool.

Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday, Sturridge confirmed that he'll be back for Liverpool's next Premier League game:

"I'll be ready for that one, God willing. It's the worst feeling to be honest but that's football. Everyone picks injuries up"

Then, last night, £34m-rated Sturridge confirmed that he is officially back in first-team training, and after the session, he tweeted:

"Training was class. Happy to be back"

Liverpool's record without Sturridge is pretty atrocious:

* Played: 14
* Won: 4
* Lost: 7
* Drew: 3
* Goal scored: 14
* Won only 2 out of 7 Prem games.
* Failed to win 71% of games.

Sturridge's return is obviously a massive boost, but given the utter failure of Balotelli, Borini, and Lambert to chip-in with goals, there will be intolerable pressure on the striker to deliver the goods.

Like with Dejan Lovren, Fans will unreasonably expect Sturridge to come back and immediately rescue Liverpool's season, and that's almost certainly not going to happen.

Additionally, after missing 14 games, Sturridge will need time to regain proper match-fitness, and it's also possible that he may subconsciously hold back a little for fear of incurring another injury.

Sturridge appears to mentally strong, and in the past, he's proven that a lack of match-fitness is no bar to grabbing goals. However, another injury so soon after this lengthy absence will be tough to take, and could derail Liverpool's season even more.

I fully expect Sturridge to pick up another injury sooner rather than later, so it's imperative that Rodgers is formulating a plan to cover than eventuality.

Like all fans, I'm glad Sturridge is back, but, sadly, he is unreliable, and it's (arguably) a mistake to build the team around him. After all, how can you build a team around a player who is regularly injured?

Rodgers already tried that this season, and look at the results. The back-up plan has failed so far, which is why signing a proven, prolific striker in the January transfer window is a major priority for Liverpool.

  2. there is a massive weight of expectation on a guy who could get injured putting his boots on

  3. Are you incapable of reading an article properly? Open you eyes: it states Sturridge 'rated' at £34m, and the figure is a link to the CIES Football Observatory ranking of Europe's most valuable footballers, wherein Sturridge is rated at £34.

    Stop posting pointless, flippant comments.

  5. If you having a bad day don't put on your readers. If you don't want your readers to ask questions then don't write articles and give us the opportunity to comment them. It was a simple question. Everyone knows we purchased him for 15 so why so hostile when asked a question?

  6. Bad day? No, I'm just sick of snipers like you who continually pop up with pointless, facetious 'questions', which indirectly cast aspersions on the articles.

    People can - and do - comment without problem; then, there are others who post pointless comments like yours above. It's perfectly obvious that Sturridge wasn't signed for £34m, and you know this, yet you still posted that facetious comment, which doesn't promote debate in any way whatsoever.

  8. Snipers like me??? You don't know me and two why do you write the articles in the first place??? You seem to be having issues right Sir! You don't know what is in my head! You expect everybody to follow your rules but yet you don't honor them. You did not have to answer my question as matter of fact you are very good at deleting peoples comments you don't agree with. You talking about debate and you keep deleting comments.

  13. Dude, you're having a whinge because JK is having a go at you about posting a stupid question that you already knew the answer to...what the hell?

  14. Sturridge needs a partner, one who can still make an impact when Studge is injured, but we can still build a team with him in mind, a player with such finishing quality should never be counted out. but i agree we need another attacking threat as Balo hasn't got the clever movement the set up requires.

  19. Terry McDermotts perm10:31 pm, November 13, 2014

    Its true he cant be expected to carry the team but its not just about what he does with the ball. His movement will make life easier for the rest of the attack.

    ReplyDelete
  20. pointless ??? this from the guy who spends day after day writing pointless lies

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sturridge's injury IMO is the reason Sterling and Coutinho are underperforming, his movement occupies two defenders and creates so much space for them to expliot, Balotelli could learn from Danny. I havn't given up on Mario yet but he needs to learn and improve.

    its weird that all you guys appear at the same time when the site had no disturbance for so long

    we want to discuss liverpool everything else is irrelevant

  23. Agreed, if JK based his journolism on fact rather that fantasy then there would be no arguments in these comment sections.

  24. "I hope he lasts till after Xmas" sounds like he's a Duracell bunny... Well can't blame your perspective given his record... Sigh

  25. Daniel "unbreakable" Sturridge... And don't you forget it...

  26. Classic... Just got found out... Hilarious

  27. The Studge will lead by example with clever movement, work rate and bravery... Balo take notes lad.

  28. Coutinho next to Gerrard as a DM? Sir are you mad? I would hate to see us line up with those two providing the protection. At the moment our best 2 in a 4231 would have to be Can and Hendo, but then again I haven't seen them play together in that role from memory... Also, just with the second XI, I'm not sure you'd get the most out of Sterling and Origi playing them so wide... Switch that to a 4-3-3 with Can, Lallana and Coutinho in the middle, Sterling Studge and Origi up front?

  29. its all to get hits obviously.
    this site will never be considered as genuine news.

  30. for me lovren is not good enough neither lloris nor mignolet....

  31. Really the best news i have heard all week!!! I don't expect miracles but I'm sure he should make a difference!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. How can there be utter failure for Lambert ??? He hardly featured and the time that he was on the pitch certainly did him and the club no justice. He gets used as an impact player for 10 or 15 mins ( What crap is that) he needs far more game time and to be used every 2nd game to create and put a few behind ! Borini has been influential as far as I am concerned , as he also had very little time in the line-up, how can one expect miracles and plenty of goals?? Give both these players more time on the pitch and use them regularly , we will then see more goals and perhaps even a partnership develop (once not even thought of) ........If there is blame, blame the technical staff and head coach BR, in my opinion BR is playing the wrong formation and making rash changes out of panicking!!
