Shock Choice? - Prem 'legend' now a surprise favourite to be the next LFC manager

After Sunday's damaging 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, Brendan Rodgers is now under extreme pressure to arrest the club's damaging slide into mid-table mediocrity, and with former LFC boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly waiting in the wings to take over, Rodgers is running out of time to reverse Liverpool's alarming regression. Benitez is undoubtedly a popular choice for to replace Rodgers, but he is not the only ex-Red who's in the frame for the job.

According to British bookmakers, Anfield legend Jamie Carragher is now 10-1 third-favourite to succeed Rodgers as Liverpool's manager.

Carra - a vocal critic of Liverpool's ongoing deficiencies at the back - is an obvious, predictable choice, and he's clearly disturbed by his old club's catastrophic defensive decline. Indeed, in October, he made it clear that a return to Anfield is an enticing prospect. He told Sky Sports:

“If I was offered a job in Liverpool in a good coaching role, it would be difficult to turn down. It’s your club, you always want them to do well. Anyone else but Liverpool you wouldn’t really change your job but when is your own club it’s a big pull.”

In my view, this is a no-brainer. Having Carra involved as a defensive coach can only be a good thing, but there's no way (IMO) he should even be considered for the Liverpool job. As we've seen with Kenny Dalglish, there's always a risk when legends return to the club. Carra has an amazing legacy at Anfield, and I'd hate to see that tarnished with an unsuccessful spell in the Liverpool hot-seat.

From a purely practical standpoint, Carra - repeatedly hailed as a 'legend' by Rodgers - is not ready for such a huge job; he doesn't yet have the relevant UEFA coaching qualifications, and there are clearly better, more experienced candidates out there. For example, if we're talking about ex-players, I'd rather see Sami Hyypia get the job ahead of Carra.

Additionally, like Rodgers, Carra arguably doesn't have the profile to attract big-name players to Anfield, which is something that continues to negatively impact Liverpool's forward progress. If FSG make a change, international renown/aura must (IMO) be one of the pre-requisite qualities required of the new manager.

  1. Hahahaha. Jaimie, would you consider De Boer a good candidate?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Yes, he's a good candidate. Like Koeman, he's a legend in the game, and will almost certainly have more pull in the transfer market than Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Like I was saying before, imagine he brought Cruyff with him as a DOF. *Drool*

  4. B R wont want Carra as it would leave him as a sitting duck for the chop BUT yesterday was very hard to stomach and I still say its time to let Stevie G move on or go upstairs - dont want it to end in tears which it will if he continues as captain - legs have gone

    ReplyDelete
  5. Jamie - in defence of B R - what are his net spend figures on transfer activities and what is the average age of his squad now ?

NOOOOO. I love Carra of course I do but we can't make the same mistakes again. I approved of appointing Rodgers in the first place mainly as I knew fsg would want a young manager. And thought he was the best of the few candidates But was only really impressed after Xmas last season. But the trouble with unproven managers is you really know if they have what it takes until they do the business. Even in his third season and after last seasons heroics we still don't know if br can do it. Get someone who's done it time and again then see a team that believes in the boss when things aren't going well. And big players who will sign because of the manager.

  7. BR should change a bit of his formation that all ! Our player not suit playing ( BR so called TIKI TAKA ) this style ! We were so predictable any all of our opponent just copy paste formula (counter) against us !

On previous article i would like vote Martin O'Neil..
Cappelo would be available candidate i guess ???

    Keep Rodgers
He is the best we can get at least give him to the end of the season
Rafa Benitez will never abandon one of his clubs midway through a season
while da boers achievements are nothing special even martin jol won the everdise

Keep the faith in Rodgers he needs strikers to play his way which is probably the best way in the world , origi an ibe next season should give him his pace on the wings and i am sure fsg will give him funds for one top striker

    ReplyDelete
  9. We need to snap up Klopp before our rivals do he's ranked 4th best manger in the world

    ReplyDelete
  10. Why should we.

You say he needs strikers to play his way, if that is the case why didn't he buy any?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sorry but there is no way in hell FSG would ever put Carra in charge.

He has zero experience. A coach, maybe but that is it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Jamie Carragher does not even have his coaching badges yet does he?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Do not think he will be leaving Dortmund yet.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Klop did well in the previous season and now his club is at bottom three, he don't have a PL experience too. Will he be good as BR replacement? Napoli is at top three of the table, Rafa looks like a good deal.

    ReplyDelete
  15. This will be his last season at Dortmund. Quotes from an interview about a week ago

“It’s the only country, I think, where I should work, really, next to Germany, because it’s the only country I know the language a little bit and I need the language for my work.”

“So we will see. If somebody will call me, then we will talk about it.”

To me that's a clear "Somebody offer me a job"

    ReplyDelete
  16. Did not see that. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  17. If we want De Boer, we could maybe get him as early as January. If we want Klopp, we'd have to wait until next Summer.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jamie Carragher? Does he have his UEFA licences?

I think this will be a terrible appointment. Being a member of the old boys' club shouldn't make you a favourite for a coaching spot at a club like Liverpool FC who have aspirations of winning the Champions League.

I grew up in a family of (qualified) coaches and have worked at the highest level in football. One thing I've learned is that being a top player does not mean you will be a top coach. Nor does being an average player doom one to being an average coach. With respect, yelling at people to mark their man and clear the ball is a world away from managing a club - even a small one - with all the nuances that requires.

No. Carra was a great player for us and retired at the right time. If he ever decides to get his coaching licences and proves himself to be a manager that can realistically expect to win the Premier League and Champions League with Liverpool, then his name can be thrown into the hat, along with Klopp, Benitez, De Boer, Ancelotti, and of course Rodgers.

At the moment, no chance. Carra has not even coached under-9s.

He hasn't even started his dossier.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can't blame him. He keeps losing his best players.

Dortmund had a chance of seriously damaging Bayern's stranglehold but have let that slip by allowing the squad to be cherry-picked and not investing in replacements of adequate quality. It must frustrate the cap off his head.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Getting the right DOF will be the biggest stumbling block.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jamie, just out of intrest what do you want to happen? And what do you think will happen.
I want FSG to stick with BR and I think FSG will stick with BR till the end of the season,if he hasn't turned it around I fear they will replace him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is now Liverpool’s worst start to a season in over two decades and results are performances are getting worse game by game.

FSG most definitely will not be sitting back to see it all go down in flames.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Intresting... So you think they would replace him soon?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd give my left nut for Cruyff. Who else is there?

    ReplyDelete
  25. If they lose to Ludogoretz, Don't be surprised. IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If Klopp gets the job J.K can add a few letters and call the site Liverpool Klopp.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Only ex player I would consider would be Sami Hypia, or Xabi in a few years' time who will I think be a top manager. Both would need a top DOF above them

    ReplyDelete
  28. Its not so much they have allowed their best players to be cherry picked, they have no choice in the matter.

Due to how FFP is enforced in Germany and the 50+1 rule, it is has come virtually impossible now for any club to challenge Bayern.

The bundesliga has become effectively like the Scottish Premier League, one team to rule them all.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would not be surprised if FSG are already looking for a replacement.

I do not expect them to sack BR without having another manager already lined up.

    ReplyDelete
  30. FSG have proved in the past with both Liverpool and The Red Socks that they are more then prepared to sack a manager if they believe it is needed. FSG are very ambitious are are not scared of getting rid of a popular manager if they feel results are not good enough

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sami must be thinking wot the hell has happened to our defence since he left

    ReplyDelete
  32. 10-1 is sh!te odds for something that is definitely not going to happen. Bookies are near but thieves.

    ReplyDelete
  33. he doesnt even have a provisional

    ReplyDelete
  34. the time for amateurs has gone we need a proven manager with international connections ,at this stage ill take anyone over Rodgers who for me has lost the plot and lost the players,it makes me wonder who is running the team as there are a constant stream of players coming out praising Gerrard but non praising Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  35. dont be fooled by net spend at the end of the day Rodgers has spent 200m on players,

    ReplyDelete
  36. Way too many 'foreign' players in our squad......NO the WORLD, for Carra's liking :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. if we have no pace then why did Rodgers loan ibe

    ReplyDelete
  38. Obviously because he does not want to warm the bench when he is never going to play.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Id be really dissaointed if they got rid of BR

    ReplyDelete
  40. Past players never seem to work out to manage their clubs in this modern day because fans are at a cross ends about what to do. On one hand, they love the player but on the other hand, he is a poor manager. My shortlist

    Biesla
    Montinair
    Emery
    De Boer
Rafa - Knows the club well

    ReplyDelete
  41. BR can have no complaints. He spent so much on players and does not even play them. It is fine if the players are not doing well but when you have better players in your squad and still neglect them when you are doing so bad, you deserve whatever you get.

    ReplyDelete
  42. i want a manger who comes with a clean slate and has absolutely no affinity to the club ...what has messed up most of the recent managers is blind faith and favoritism , i mean how hard can it be, you play well you keep your place you dont you are dropped

    ReplyDelete
  43. The untouchables Kenny, Gerrard and Carra should never be given the top role at Liverpool again. The club is in need of unity. When one of Gerrard or Carra eventually get sacked (and they would if given the job) it would divide opinion to the extent that the eventual successor would be under double the amount of pressure in what is already a pressure cooker environment. The highest position I would give Carra and Gerra is u-15 team team manager and even then with the greatest of reservation

    ReplyDelete
  44. we are not playing tika taka though we dont appear to play any style we are a quasi mish mash of styles

    ReplyDelete
  45. My choice would be Biesla for sure. He demands hard work from every player and is in the Mourinho mould on defensive solidarity but as his Bilbao team has shown, can play great football. Once Biesla sees Glen Johnson, that pay cut would be like a treasure for him. But, since he has just become Marseille manager, he most probably would not come.

    ReplyDelete
  46. my thoughts exactly burty ,they wield far to much influence thats what puts me off hypia he is just to connected to previous players and would inevitably bring one of them back in a role

    ReplyDelete
  47. it would be nice to get a coach who can actually spot overseas talent cheaply im sick of us getting ripped off

    ReplyDelete
  48. Also true. It's a bit of a farce.

    But speaking of Mordor...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would hire Portos' scouts. While clubs fork out millions on their players, they are missing out on their hidden gem, their scouts. Finding a player like Falcao out of nowhere. We could have got Jackson Martinez easily but were too scared. Porto gambled and look what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ben Smith - "Brendan Rodgers's position at Liverpool is not under immediate threat despite the club's poor start to the season.

"It is understood that Tom Werner and John W Henry, the co-owners, remain behind their manager although Liverpool have declined to comment.

    ReplyDelete
  51. spot on Gil, Former Liverpool players make the worst football managers anyway

Grobbelaar, Mark Wright, Jan Molby, John Aldridge, John Barnes, Ray Houghton, Steve Nicol, Nigel clough? , Paul Ince, Graeme Souness (the master), Steve Mcmahon, Pellegrino, Markus Babbel, Dietmar Hamann, Sami Hypia?

The LFC environment is definitely not a breeding ground for aspiring managers. It is a path we should avoid like the plague!

    ReplyDelete
  52. sami Hypia was the good at leverkusen

    ReplyDelete
  53. FSG were reluctant to sack Roy Hodgson until the end of his campaign too but had to give in to fan power. BR will most likely be given every opportunity to make the top four, he just needs to realise his 'allies' and one 'ally' in particular ( who literally 'sits' in front of the back four with a cigar on) is in it for himself and a final pay day.

    ReplyDelete
  54. until he got sacked?

    ReplyDelete
  55. if thats the case it almost certainly means hes going to get sacked

    ReplyDelete
  56. Brighton is currently just above the relegation zone on goal difference and this is a team that reached the playoffs last season.

    ReplyDelete
  57. a clear out is required at anfield so that any new mangers vision is not clouded by back ground interferance

    ReplyDelete
  58. Tony Pulis, good god why don't we just get Hodgson back

    ReplyDelete
  59. I would not include Nigel Clough in that list. He did well at Burton, Derby and is continuing to do well at Sheff Utd.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Tony Pulis will at least make our defence solid and it is not as if our style of play now is any greater than it will be if Pulis comes.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Most definitely. LFC is in need of a deep tissue detox :) We need to pour a big leafy green smoothie on that place

    ReplyDelete
  62. I didn't say I like him, I said he is the only one available for December. Klopp ain't coming to LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  63. there may be a few that have slipped burts net into the level of average but by and large the point burt makes is valid they are all crap

    ReplyDelete
  64. lol.. yeah but I will still stand up for Nigel Clough

    ReplyDelete
  65. Really?? Tony Pulis at LIVERPOOL? I've heard it all now

    ReplyDelete
  66. I hate it as much as you do but statistically our defence is the most error prone in all of Europe. Most teams are confident of getting at least 2 goals against us. At least Pulis will help that. I am not saying he is the best or even a viable option but he might not be that bad considering the state our defence is in now.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm very sad about the current state of affairs, but we have to get behind the team and manager. I think BR will turn things around.

One thing though, loads of people are complaining about BR signing Lovren...Lovren was one of the best defenders last season, both his leadership, positioning, aerial ability, decision making etc... were all on point.

Not many people were complaining when we signed him, the fee was too much I agree.

The fault lies with the player himself as well, it seems he has forgotten how to defend. Players have to liable, look at Johnson...a complete passenger.

For next game, BR needs to drop: Gerrard, Johnson, Skrtel.

Start Can, Moreno and Toure...where the heck is Sakho? He has been injured as much as Sturridge!!!

PS No way Carragher should get anywhere to the management position at Liverpool, as a coach yes, assistant yes, not manager.

I support BR but FSG are not afraid to make tough decisions, if we lose out CL game I think BR will be out.

    Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  68. I know what you're saying but what would the appointment of Tony Pulis say about our global ambition as a club? Pulis as defensive coach maybe but manager? Never in a million years

    ReplyDelete
  69. It's basically a vote of confidence aka the kiss of death.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think his saving a grace is that we are still in the league cup (quarters) and FA and CL for now.

If we lose tomorrow I think he may get the sack. All it takes is one win and for a player on low confidence to score and things get turned around....let's hope so.

If BR does leave I would like: De Boer

    ReplyDelete
  71. I just have a feeling that if BR gets sacked we might just regret it... I could see another club picking him up. To think barca and man City were intrested last year

    ReplyDelete
  72. They really want us to believe that and then decline to comment. Oh dear.

    ReplyDelete
  73. It his own doing. completely changed the ethos of last season to absolute ghastly football plus some really bad decisions in the transfer market this season.

I do not see how this is going to be turned around.

    ReplyDelete
  74. To be fair I think most of us would love BR to turn things around however he has shown nothing to suggest he can do this.

End of last season he had in my mind 3 main things to do.

    1. Buy a defensive Midfielder

    2. Buy at least 2 top Strikers

    3. Stop the team from conceding so many goals.

For me he has accomplished none of these things.

He didn't get a defensive midfielder in even when Song was on a free.

No offensive to Ricky Lambert but he was never going to cut it.

We are defending worse then we did last season.

To make things even worse the signings he has brought in he is not even playing them

    ReplyDelete
  75. Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren and Gerrard massive buddies.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I don't believe we do need a clear out, you can not tell me the likes of Southampton, Newcastle, Swansea, West Ham have better squads then us.

What we need is a manager with ability to pick formations and tactics to suite the players we do have

    ReplyDelete
  77. And stick with players time and time again who need to be dropped. He ain't going to change.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Does Rafa know the club? Am I the only one who sees the Triggers broom nature of a football club? New owners, new execs, new players. OK the ground and the training pitches are in the same places but even they are changed. What Rafa knew is different.

    ReplyDelete
  79. when i say clear out i mean players like johnson and sadly gerrad and skirtal

    ReplyDelete
  80. Any1 who has a little knowledge of football knows that Liverpool needed a good DM not Gerrard in that position, he has Lucas but Rodgers is reluctant to use him. Balotelli was a panic buy and Lambert was to be the super sub .Our defense has no organisation whatsoever and is not looking like improving any time soon. The confidence of the team looks shattered and we need a miracle sooner rather than later to win the next game.sigh

    ReplyDelete
  81. if lovren is struggling then rogers should take him to one side and say listen im going to play kolo for a few games to take you out of the firing line ...the problem lies with rodgers he is clueless if your defence is struggling why play a right back ( who is garbage ) over a 12m left back why not play lucas the most experienced Dm at the club in front of the back 4 instead of Gerrard a player who rafa wouldn't trust in the role in his pomp ...drop mingo ...honestly i could go on and on but rogers has a small man complex like napoleon im finished with him hes clueless hes spent 200m on dross and expects sympathy

    ReplyDelete
  82. brilliant!
now, this is why i want Klopp.

    ReplyDelete
  83. He knows the expectations and more importantly, he knows the fans. He knows what the fans want and has tasted success with the club. He has a good reputation and is a stern tactician. He would not be my first choice but I would not rule him out.

    ReplyDelete
  84. aren't all odds sh.te if something is definitely not going to happen?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Think the owners will be concerned, but I can't see them firing Rodgers just yet. What I think they will do is use his position of weakness maybe to force a DOF on him. And that in my opinion can only be a good thing.

Rodgers is to blame but the owners are also partly guilty. The strategy to buy loads of new players and build a new team was theirs. They could have replaced like for like. Take the Suarez money and buy maybe two top players. But the strategy was rather to buy a group of players that would add to the squad depth. But it hasn't really worked. The problem is Sturridges injury has meant a complete lack of goals, a lack of movement upfront. I think the biggest mistake was buying Boletteli. He just doesn't suit our style of play, and honestly I can only see him being good for a dressing room.

I know people see the defense as being a MAJOR issue and I agree it is. But we must remember that Rodgers style is attack, pretty, entertaining football. So to concede isn't a problem as long as you score more. It pulls in crowds, means your on the telly more often and sponsors like that. The problem is we are conceding way too many. And I cant see the Rodgers philosophy helping. We need a handful of games were no matter what happens we don't concede. No matter how ugly it is. We need Jaimie Carragher/Roy of the Rovers stuff to stop the slide.

Talking about the defense, I think one of our biggest weaknesses is that we don't have a quality center back that can carry the ball out, a great passer like Dagger. Rodgers attacking philosophy revolves around great pressing in the opposition half and playing out from the back. We just don't have the personal upfront or at the back to do either.

    ReplyDelete
  86. i cant neither he will continue with the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse and we will continue to ship goals

    ReplyDelete
  87. Global admission? - Stay up!!! BR is leading us to a disaster that's never been seen in LFC history!!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Rodgers has been trying to off load lucas for a peppercorn fee so if he brought him back in Gerrards role he will in effect verify which i have suspected all season that he doesn't know what he is doing and Suarez carried the team last year

    ReplyDelete
  89. we appointed brenadn rodgers who in reality did nothing as a player or manager ...i would take pullis over Rodgers at this moment at least he knows how to organize a defence

    ReplyDelete
  90. No reason why Can cannot play as the deepest midfielder. He is quick and does not get bullied easily plus has an eye for a pass.

    ReplyDelete
  91. id play lucas deepest with can and hendo in front at least then we would have a bit of presance

    ReplyDelete
  92. actually he wasn't that good at Leverkusen..
the football they played was counter productive, they parked the bus and countered, despite having so many good offensive players in the team... One year after Hypia left, Leverkusen is playing much better under Schmid

    ReplyDelete
  93. our weakest points are defense and attracting big names. IF we get a new manager we need one who knows how to set up a defence and is well known.

    ReplyDelete
  94. BR is that type of manager who can make Swansea champions and relegate LFC. He is not "a big club type" of manager. He is exactly what David Moyes is "Happy to be here" and he will follow his footsteps to Spain (I think he would love to manage there one day).

    ReplyDelete
  96. i'd either play:

    lallana - hendo
    can

    or

    can - hendo
    allen

    ReplyDelete
  97. We have the same problem with Lucas's as we have with Gerrard, both do not have the legs.

Can brings you movement, passing, presence and pace..

    ReplyDelete
  98. It's not the scouts where they have the advantage,. Portuguese clubs can buy Brazilian players direct as they have dual nationality passports, no need for work permits and EU eligibility qualification. It's not hard to cherry pick the youth squads of Brazil. I'd imagine parents are offered inducements.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Hendo Can Allen for me.

    ReplyDelete
  100. id go with can hendo and allen at least we would then have the ability to hustle other teams because as it stands now we are getting walked through in midfield

    ReplyDelete
  101. Lets be honest, either Can or Lucas would be better then Gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  102. id go for allen can and hendo and have wanted them to start as a trio all season but for some reason rodgers wont its almost like hes scared to in case it works so he would have to drop Gerrard its a crazy situation ...

    ReplyDelete
  103. Lucas is not a cynical ball watcher. Gerrard needs a wheelchair to labour around the pitch, he doesn't have any positional sense in such a role. It's beyond something physical. Lucas is twice the player in DM

    ReplyDelete
  104. at least we all agree, there's no place for gerrard in the starting 11 any more

    ReplyDelete
  105. manquillo kolo lovren moreno

    allen hendo can

    lallana lambert sterling

thats how i would go next game

    ReplyDelete
  106. that's why I placed a "?" next to Clough and Hyppia. They are plodding along but have both already been sacked.

I'd like to take this opportunity to add Ronnie Whelan to the Anfield list of shame.

    ReplyDelete
  107. i personally think lovren is more of a problem than skrtel, hence i'd play
manquillo skrtel kolo moreno at the back.
for the rest i agree with you, lambert deserves another start, and coutinho is best comming of the bench

    ReplyDelete
  108. Just another reason to steer clear... :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. the Dm role is ultimately about breaking down attacks and is mostly a positional role its about realising where the passage of play will take the ball , its a get and give roll and thats why gerrad is no use he doent want to get and when he does its mr hollywood

    ReplyDelete
  110. Gerrard will never be a defensive midfielder. It is like asking Lucas to be an no 10. Ain't going to happen even though Lucas was a box to box midfielder when he played in Brazil.

Fact is that Lucas will also be overrun like Gerrard. We need someone who can keep up.

    ReplyDelete
  111. no its not our defense Lovren, skrtel sakho (proven france international) they are getting exposed because of gerrard drop gerrard anf start lucas and we will see a better record gerrard was the main reason we conceded 50 goals last season!!! he needs to go so does johnson!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. spot on about Lucas!!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. the thing with lovren though is at 20m we have to make it work, id drop them both if im honest but we dont have the cover

    ReplyDelete
  114. Both Skrtel and Lovren need to be dropped.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Lucas is better than gerrard remember the aston villa game last season at anfield? only when lucas came on we stopped villa from scoring more!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. 100% agree with everything you said we need to stop going on about how he is legend or captain fantastic....that gerrard is no more and needs to be dropped asap!!!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I am not saying one is better than the other. All I am saying is both do not have the abilty to keep up with the pace of opposition players strolling past them.

    ReplyDelete
  118. id play Enrique there before Gerrard if im honest .....thats the thing with rodgers he seems incapable of thinking outside the box ( except with his new mrs )

    ReplyDelete
  119. he will do a better job than grandad gerrard!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. sakho is another one on that list... 20m and nowhere near the level he should be. what a waste, we could as well have played with Sama and Loyd Jones

    ReplyDelete
  121. skao has been scape goated im not his biggest fan but hes better than lovren and skirtal and was dropped for no real reason

    ReplyDelete
  122. sakho and Lovren have one thing in common Scheinerdelin sakho has him while playing for France and Lovren had him at Southampton last season now they have gerrard who some think is the new Pirlo or xabi alonso play Lucas in that position and watch our defence concede less

    ReplyDelete
  123. Sakho seems to be the biggest scapegoat when he has is not even part pof the problem this season.

The elephants in the room are there to be seen in every match so far this season.

What is the bet that Toure and Sakho would form a formidable partnership unlike the one we are seeing now between Skrtel and Lovren who are not fit for a non league team.

    ReplyDelete
  124. you're right, all these guys can't be that bad. playing for other clubs/national teams they were and still are brilliant... sakho was rock-solid in the WC and so was lovren...

    ReplyDelete
  125. I am not A gerrard hater he is and will always be a legend but our team dynamics and principles are based around getting the best out of gerrard we should be basing it ongetting the best out of our team! against crystal palace he never made one tackle that says it all for a defensive midfielder!

  126. If we do go out of CL, at least we'll go back to one game a week, like last year and maybe BR will get a chance to coach the team a bit more. (Trying to see a positive in all this). Hearing on radio now for the time being BR is ok. I didn't think BR was the right man for the job of managing LFC when he was appointed and I still don't now. I think the board see him as an easily controllable figure. But lets face it apart from Ancelotti or Mourinho who would give you any confidence in coming in? All the names touted are either unrealistic, unlikely or come with an element of worry. Last year I didn't laud BR as the greatest thing nor did I start celebrating a title win after Man City. Last year when we were free scoring, we were still conceding and I never relaxed during a game even when we were 2 goals clear with half hour left. It was awesome to see positive and at times ruthless attacking football but always in the back of my mind I kinda knew something would go wrong (I've supported this club for 35 years now) but i didn't think it would go this wrong so quickly. Now we don't have the goals but the defensive frailties of last year are still there. I'm sure the attitude should have been to work on our weaknesses, that's the best way to get stronger. I'm struggling to come to term with lots of decisions that have been made by this club over the past 20 years but as always, there is certainly a job to be done. Whoever works or plays for the club, i guess i still love/ support the team. Appointing Carragher though IMO would be another mistake in a long list of big mistakes. YNWA.

  127. What about Colombian and Argentinean players?

    ReplyDelete
  128. Go to the Mirror and you will see Pulis is right there one of the top 5 favorites to replace BR.

    ReplyDelete
  129. it's primarly due to BR not being able to organise a defence and our lack of a proper DM... on paper we have 3 top CB's

    ReplyDelete
  130. If it were up to me he would never have left in the first place. How long does he have on his contract?

    ReplyDelete
  131. I agree that he'll get the sack, but I don't think it will be until January or the summer. I mean, if we get knocked out, then our season is effectively over anyway. The decision will be made if we lose, but we have to time announcement to when other managers are available, and I doubt many good ones (like De Boer or Rafa) will want to move midway in the season, and certainly not between windows.

    ReplyDelete
  132. One more thing I feel we have missing is the audacity that Suarez and Sturridge as well as Coutinho and Sterling had last year. The things they tried like Suarez's header from outside the box or Sturridge's chip, you cannot see any of our players try those things. They have a general fear of shooting and trying things. We need an outrageous type of player in the Taarabt mould but better obviously who can just do things.

    ReplyDelete
  133. He has been poor mate. At least Lovren is getting some tackles in. Skrtel is averaging less than one a game. No tackles and one interception vs Palace.

  134. Most postman calls me his little buddy AND he is always whistling no woman no cry

  135. No tackles and no interceptions.

  136. I want Brendan Rodgers to turn things around, but I don't trust him in the transfer market. He'll continue to use Gerrard as a defensive midfielder because he's scared of the media backlash.
Liverpool need a manager who's clever in the transfer market.A man who top players want to play for. That should be the most important thing.Or 3 years from now and another 200m flushed down the toilet, Liverpool will be in the same position.
FSG could bring in the best tactician, but if his overall signings are expensively average Liverpool won't move forward.
The bookies are stupid.Jamie Carragher 3rd favourite? No thanks! Breaking down mistakes on Monday Night Football, playing 700+ matches for the club and having zero managerial or even coaching experience on his CV shouldn't be considered.
Brendan Rodgers and his staff signed new long term contracts recently, which will eat into the money the next manager has to strengthen.
The results leading up to the new year is the big test.If we show no signs of improvement in this average league, he needs to go.Whoever's on the transfer committee can pack their bags too!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Lucas doesn't have the legs but does have the positional sense and he is even more vocal than Gerrard. I would have him in but apparently they have been trying to sell him for ages so I can not see it happening.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I've never been a fan of SG's Hollywood balls.Steven Gerrard's long range passing success is built on volume to produce a accurate balls. If any other player wasted possession as much by looking for the perfect pass, they would get slaughtered by our supporters.
His passes are not weighted to perfection.Xabi Alonso and Pirlo are good examples of 'quarterback' passers that are able to take pace off long passes.
Gerrard's are hit much harder and have a flat trajectory which means his passes need to be more accurate.Even when the pass reaches the target, it's difficult for teammates to control a ball bulleted at them under pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Enrique? That idea needs putting in a box and burying. He is bad enough as a full back.

  140. It's known as misha masha

    ReplyDelete
  141. I agree mate there is a fear amongst the side. Only Coutinho and Lallana seem to want to take people on but that can be annoying when it doesn't come off. Balo will have mad shots but they tend to be garbage too.

    ReplyDelete
  142. The worry is that it is a combination of things. Mignolet is indecisive. Their is little protection from in font. Both the current CBs are error prone, have lapses in concentration and judgement and their are no leaders. You think just simple things could help. Toure would be vocal and help with orgainisation. Lucas is also more vocal and is tactically better in a DM role. Mignolet? Well I think he needs to be replaced. So too our goal keeper coach.

  143. You're using granddad as a term of endearment then?

    ReplyDelete
  144. well he is a grandad in footballing age!

  145. sakho and Lovren have one thing in common Scheinerdelin sakho has him while playing for France and Lovren had him at Southampton last season now they have gerrard who some think is the new Pirlo or xabi alonso play Lucas in that position and watch our defence concede less

    ReplyDelete
  146. and BR is the grandmaster of it

    ReplyDelete
  147. Mad shots are fine as long as they are done once in a while because at least it catches the opposition off guard but Balo does it unnecessarily and repetitively.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Would Klopp be a realistic possibility JK?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Abs we sing from the same hymn sheet on this one.Morgan Schneiderlin or William Carvalho will sort out the defensive shield problems long term.
A good cheap summer option would've been Song.We could've got him on loan, turning into a permanent deal at the end of this season when he fabreezed our defense.
How a player of his quality was left on the transfer market shelf by big clubs for West Ham to swoop baffles me.
Lucas would do a better job than SG until January, but Brendan Rodgers won't drop Gerrard, even with his job on the line!

    ReplyDelete
  150. the point im trying to make is that rodgers wont try anything to win a game or change an outcome its the same crap players in the same positions and its not working we have made palace and qpr look like real madrid

    ReplyDelete
  151. Mate, it is evident that Skrtel and Lovren are a CB pair that do not gel. It is there for everyone to see.

    ReplyDelete
  152. You can bet your bottom dollar that Skrtel, Johnson, Lovren and Gerrard will be in the following EPL match. Rodgers and his closest friends.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Must be true then

    ReplyDelete
  154. But he had a vision and an extensive education in coaching. What's Tony Pulis biggest achievement? That he's never been relegated! Stoke got rid of him for playing horrid football. STOKE!! And he's who you're seriously suggesting for the Liverpool job? Great idea

    ReplyDelete
  155. glen hoddle or raffa. id like to see rodgers stay till the end of season to see if he can put things right and salvage some pride. the seasons already over. mignolet johnson skrtel lovren are the main problem and poor starting 11 and formation. the players we have up front we can only play as a 4-4-2 we have no lone striker. rodgers digging his own grave, we definately have the players to be doing a lot better even without sturridge

    ReplyDelete
  156. SG as a player/manager with Carra as his assistant for the rest of the season it makes sense. If we will not qualify for the next round of CL,there is not any reason for BR to stay until next May.Personally,i never thought that he is the right man for LFC.Our big rivals,Chelsea,Man City,Man Utd and Arsenal would have never considered to trust an inexperienced manager, totally unknown outside England. This thing hurts me badly. It was a combination of many factors last year. The form of LS and DS,the passion of Stevie G,our early elimination from the cups competition. However Mr BR thought it was up to him.He made big mistakes and he has to pay the penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  157. id have sakho over both skrtel and lovren. skrtel has always been a liability and lovren cant beat anyone in the air over 5"10. obviously doesnt count with rodgers to come in and play a blinder then get dropped in to oblivion again (kolo toure) glen johnson has not deserved to wear the shirt for the last 2 years

  158. Money speaks all languages.

  159. The strategy of buying only 2-3 established / world class players would also not have worked because we had a wafer thin squad last season - this had to be addressed to enable us to compete in the champions league as well as the league and the domestic cup competitions.

I think buying 2 similar strikers in Ballotelli & Lambert was a mistake - neither has pace & movement that was our trademark last season. I would have preferred Remy instead of Ballotelli. Imagine also if Sanchez had not turned us down - he would have been a like for like (as much as is possible) replacement for Suarez whilst Remy would be able to step in for the talented but fragile Studge...

  160. It's clear to all Liverpool fans that Brendan Rodgers race is run. Please Mr Henry waste no more time waiting for our great club to join the relegation brigade - make Jurgen Klopp an offer he cannot refuse. - Only those who don't feel the pain of watching Liverpool's ineptitude want him to remain.
