Great News for LFC: £25m 'powerhouse' striker 'will' leave for the 'right price'. Sign?

With Liverpool's alleged strikers struggling to fill the Luis Suarez-sized hole at Anfield, the Reds are once again being linked with a January move for powerhouse' Swansea City star Wilfried Bony, and it appears that the Ivorian is open to a move, and actually expects it to happen.

In an interview over the weekend, Bony revealed that:

* He was 'not ready' when he 'went to Liverpool' at the age of 17 for a trial, which ultimately led to the Reds rejecting the chance to sign him.

* He's happy that 'bigger teams' are monitoring him.

* He'd 'love to play in the Champions League' and is what he's currently 'fighting for'.

The powerful striker also made it clear that he expects Swansea to sell him at some stage:

“I am always honest with the club and they are always honest with me. If they get the right price for me, I think they will sell. I’m sure the fans will understand.”

What is the right price, though? Swansea reportedly want £25m for Bony, which, in my view is excessive. £17-£20m seems perfectly fair to me, and at that price, he'd (arguably) be better value for money than Mario Balotelli.

One thing's for sure: Liverpool fans are coming around to the idea of signing Bony. In October, I conducted a poll asking if Rodgers should try and sign the striker in January:

* 11340 visitors participated in the poll.
* 66% of participants votes YES to signing Bony.

Bony is reportedly set to sign a one-year extension to his current contract, but as all fans know, contract extensions mean nothing; just ask Luis Suarez! Money talks, and when a Champions League club comes in with the 'right price', he'll be gone.

Whether it's Liverpool remains to be seen, but if the club's current form continues, there'll be no Champions League football next season, which will almost certainly tule out the possibility of signing Bony.

  1. Paco Alcacer would be my prefered choice at £25m

  2. Jaimie, question for you.

Do you honestly think FSG will be making anymore money available this season especially when we are still under FFP investigation, our moneys from the CL group stage being withheld etc? If we get a fine like City did for breaking the FFP rules then quite honestly we will be f*****.

  3. FFP is nothing to get worried about, the Stadium development and youth development will cover all of this without any hassle... The only people moaning are other clubs fans... LFC are not even worried.

why don't Swansea give him to you for nothing, seeing that you are so much better placed in the premiership than they are? keep dreaming you poor delusional Liverpool supporter Swansea would rather give him to any other club than Liverpool after being stabbed in the back by your wonderful manager not!

  5. City's owners were also not worried and claimed they were abiding to the rules until they were slapped with a £50m fine.

We would not be under investigation if Uefa felt that there was nothing wrong. Let's see how it pans out but trust me, LFC cannot afford a fine the size of what City got.

  6. BR's sycophantic praise of all underachieving players is not helping anyone, Origi is no great shakes, (David Ngoo springs to mind) and the expectation on him will be too high next season. Also, his prospective arrival may be an excuse for us not to buy some real quality next summer.

  7. YOU KNOW I was going to write a piece on exactly that.... On how His old wife didn't quite fit the "profile" of a man of his new found caliber. I've been liberating writing it for days.

    Spot on mate

  8. and by word you mean an extensive three day seminar with electric shock treatment to deflate BR's head.........right? :) I hope so too.

  12. lol whatever happened to that mind detoxifier?

  13. Wasn't city in trouble because of the Etihad sponsorship where they diverted too much revenue to the sponsorship and not somewhere else.

    Or was that PSG?

    Or Both?

Ideally we want someone with pace and mobility like doumbia
    but why not both?

    Doumbia is so fast
Him sturridge and bony could give us one of the best attacks in the elague

A small price to buy to win a league like city
I don't think we will even qualify for cl this year so maybe we can avoid the fine

Moreover we have not really spent any of that so called cl revenue

    Suarez 75m
    agger 3m
    kelly 2m
    reina 2m
    Total: 82m
    spent: 116m
    net spend = 34m

that is normal net spend for a club like lfc

Looking at his fifa stats doumbia has to be one to look at

    Sprint speed 94
    Acceleration 91
    Stamina 94
    Dribbling 86

So he has everything we want he can hassle defenders with his stamina can go by palyers with good pace acceleration and dribbling

    plus he can finish

    finishing 86

maybe fifa is not 100% accurate but they cant be much wrong

  18. What about agents fees, signing on fees etc

  19. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:23 pm, November 10, 2014

But would that not be in any normal window as well?

point is prior to this window there was talk we would get 60m net to spend on just players
because we had extra cl revenue

    ReplyDelete
  20. Is he having a good season? he seems to be subbed quite a lot. Benteke syndrome?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hahahahaha, lol. Thank you so much for that. Doumbia is a good player and I actually told my mates I'd love to see him make the move to us in the summer but did you just quote Fifa stats as a case for a player??? Legitimately fell off my bed laughing….
...all you had to say was 6 goals in 9 matches this season; 20 in 26 last season, but you chose 94 stamina and 86 dribbling hahahaha, amazing

    ReplyDelete
  22. Old story rehashed.Bony wants champions league football so you think he would consider joining a mid table team in January who are in the Europe Cup and have little chance of making the top 4 this season. He's more likely to get champions league football staying in Wales!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Tomkins times talks of football inflation. I think everyone should have a look at it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not too fond of fifa stats, but I'd have to agree that Doumbia would be a great target ;D

Perhaps also a look at Luiz Adriano? I don't want to be "that guy" to hop on the good form bandwagon, but he's been stellar so far in the CL and it doesn't just seem like luck either...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Haha sit down and relax man, Swansea are Swansea, we can have all ur players if we choose to pay the price, because the player certainly won't be turning us down to stay in Wales at mighty Swansea haha

    ReplyDelete
  26. Would not mention Van Gaal he has done nothing at United he is far from a miracle worker.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Go to youtube and look at "Adrian misses" then come back and tell me he is for us.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well that's what 50K a week can do. Don't forget the new shag pad rented from Stevie G! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am much fan of this signing. I don't think Bony fits the profile of a great striker let alone comparing him to Suarez. I would sign him under one condition: sell asap Lallana, sorry, "total waste of money."

    ReplyDelete
  30. well then.... this is awkward.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You think there are aspects of the game, so called "common sense" that you yourself can see but Rodgers, a man with many years experience as a professional club manager, is missing? I'm not trying to be condescending, but I'd like to honestly know how you come to that conclusion. To you some of these things seem obvious. Why are they not obvious to Rodgers? Is he so dumb that he can't see what an average fan who watches games on the weekend can see? How is that possible?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think Lallana probably competes with Coutinho, Sterling and Allen for game time. If he's playing at the top of his game I think he keeps any of them out of the side. I don't know what's up at the moment, if he's perhaps not getting something right in training or if the balance of the side is just too far off to use him. But if things are working well then I think having him on the left side of a diamond or the left side of a front 3 is the perfect place for him and we're a better team if he's on the pitch.

I suggest waiting until Sturridge is fit to see what our preferred line up is. I expect Rodgers to keep the faith with Balotelli at least until January so when Sturridge comes back I expect what everyone has been crying out for which is a diamond formation with two up front. Coutinho or Sterling play at the point and that leaves Lallana to compete with Allen for that left sided midfield spot. I expect them to share that role to some extent but if Lallana isn't preferred then you'd really have to wonder what is going on.

  33. F S G will not make money available above £10 millio tops AND QUITE RIGHTLY - B R has had more than enough money already - some would say way too much - HE should play players in their proper positions - he should listen to Shanks and Cloughie = if you cant sort out your defence first you should not be a manager - let Stevie G go and build a team around the captain of France Sacko and let him be the new captain and more importantly THE ENFORCER AT THE BACK

  34. No buy LFC buy 2 young pacey skillful south amercian forwards they are the best

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe the guy he works with needs to have talent in the first place ie Suarez and O Sullivan- that's it we're screwed

    ReplyDelete
  36. Any South American in particular or are the all the best?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yea, but how good is he on Football Manager? Those are the real stats we should be looking at!

    ReplyDelete
  38. If they're not going to support him in the transfer market then they should just sack him. What purpose will it serve to just not spend? Either you trust the manager or you don't. Crippling his plans by denying him money to spend would be pointless. If they don't trust him in the transfer market then appoint a director of football to control the money. If Rodgers doesn't accept that then sack him and put someone else in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Almost certainly a better option that Mario but how would Liverpool work around him and what role does he play? The only other question I ask is who might be a better option? Martinez? I think there is more to it than just "he's good and he scores goals". If he doesn't suit the system or Rodgers doesn't build a style of play that suits his strengths then it would be pointless.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hummm i wonder if you were of the same opinion last year.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Liverpool does not have to panic ! They have enough talent on paper. BR needs to get his act together and fast ! He needs to have two strikers up front every game and dominate mid field. Play the 3-5-2 formation for goodness sake. When Sturridge is fit to play again, team him up with Balotelli and see where that takes Liverpool. Have Borini and lambert team up as partners up front should Balotelli and Sturridge stutter !! And if Liverpool is granted any more cash to splash.......Please spend it on Raul Raminez from Atletico Madrid . Enough said. BR shape up or ship out !!

    ReplyDelete
  42. O YES that is absolutely true!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Exactly what I've been thinking. When you don't invest, you make things worse by letting your competitors take action while you don't. Football, like any business these days, is a risk, and FSG need to recognise that. We're not going to get any better by giving ourselves a transfer ban. Finding the best possible recruitments is a big part of the manager's job, and if his bosses are going to undermine his ability by starving him then I really don't see the point either.

    Back him, or sack him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree. In a competitive business if you don't appear to rate or support your players someone else will.

I can see though that too much praise could spoil a person but so can too little recognition and encouragement. It is a fine balance but overall I feel that too little praise (when asked about a player) would be worse than too much praise. I also think any concerns are best discussed privately. .

  45. I would prefer Higuain, he is a proven player for big teams. Higuain and Reus for me rather than Bony. He not worth 25 mil he probably worth 18-20 million.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He only said he has the potential to be world class. This does not seem to be OTT praise to me. The same could be said for my dog Luis.

It does not mean he is world class just yet and he will have to continue to develop and improve if he is to achieve that tag. He is currently going through a little lull in his development as happens to most youngsters from time to time. He might, of course, just fall away and never achieve his full potential or he could learn from the setbacks and surprise us all by going on to become a world wide superstar. And the same could be said about Origi.............

  47. Lacazette has kept up his good form. Looks more like our kind of player, to me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The right price will no doubt be £25m+ with which the Swans will buy more and better players. Look what happened when a certain player went to Loserpool for £15m. I doubt he will go there anyway given they will only be in the Europa League next season and he has already done that with the Swans.

  49. the irony of it is that for the first time on this forum im not joking ....i fully expect him to arrive at training with a spray tan with capped sleeved tee shirt riding a harley in the middle of winter

    ReplyDelete
  50. He is about to sign an extension to his 2 years he has left. The release clause of supposedly £19M will either be removed alltogether or raised to £30M+ So you want him you are going to have to stump up a lot of cash and all up front :)
