Revealed: The two shock favourites to replace Rodgers at Anfield. Major surprise?

Spurious 'reports' over the weekend claim that FSG are on the verge of sacking Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, and whilst this is almost certainly opportunist nonsense, it's always interesting to see who is allegedly in the running the replace the LFC's manager.

According to Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato:

* FSG are currently 'assessing' Rodgers' position.

* The group is 'unhappy' with Rodgers' summer transfer business.

* Rodgers' job is 'hanging in the balance'.

I personally don't believe this story for a second, but if Rodgers' job does come under threat, then his abject performance in the transfer market (highlighted here many times) will undoubtedly be one of the reasons.

So, if Rodgers gets the bullet, who is in line to replace him? According to the latest UK betting odds, the following five managers are all 6-1 joint favourites to succeed Rodgers:

* Rafa Benitez.
* Laurent Blanc.
* Jurgen Klopp.
* Martin O'Neill.
* Roberto Martinez.

If and when the time comes, Benitez is an obvious choice. Things ended badly for the Spaniard at Anfield, but I believe he's destined for a return to Anfield at some stage.

I was never Benitez's biggest fan (!) but five years have passed since he left Liverpool, and all the experiences he's had in that meantime have probably made him a better manager. If/when the time comes, I wouldn't be averse to his re-appointment.

Blanc and Klopp are interesting options, but quite why either would leave their respective clubs is anyone's guess. PSG are riding high at the moment, and Dortmund may be struggling in the Bundesliga, but Klopp has built the German club into a genuine European force, and there's still work to be done.

As for surprise candidates Martin O'Neill and Roberto Martinez - forget it. The time to get O'Neill was ten years ago, and at the time, I argued long and hard for his appointment ahead of Benitez. His time has passed now, though.

Martinez is progressive, exciting manager with a big future, and he's done a great job at Everton, but after Rodgers - a similarly low-key, inexperienced manager - I sincerely doubt that Liverpool fans will be happy with his appointment.

It's all moot, though. Rodgers is under pressure, but I don't believe his job is under immediate threat. Of course, things change quickly in football, and FSG will be disturbed by Liverpool's poor performance this season, and the utter failure of Rodgers' signings to make any kind of consistent impact.

As such, if result continue to get worse, and the Reds are still languishing in mid-table obscurity in January, then Rodgers will only have himself to blame if FSG start looking for a potential replacement.

  1. Rodgers should man up and make bold decisions before its too late because he will only have himself to blame after wasting over 100mil and still can't play well without one player.

  2. I don't think Rodgers will be sacked until the end of the season at the earliest, though I don't think it'd happen then either.

Outside of the dream options like Simeone and Klopp, in the case of Brendan leaving I'd like to see us target Frank de Boer or Lucien Favre.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Also Rudi Garcia of Roma. He's a brilliant manager. His transfer dealings are very astute and effective as well

    ReplyDelete
  4. Let's get behind the team for one last push until end of 2014...then we see how it goes?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Benitez was like cancer to LFC, stubborn, negative and wasteful, at least Rodgers is only wasteful!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Totally agree. I think that if and when BR gets the axe, we need a manager with good links over Europe so we can get the stars as well as the hidden gems at bargain prices.

    ReplyDelete
  7. do you watch much football?

    ReplyDelete
  8. No thanks to Benitez and doubt FSG will appoint him anyway. If they really wanted him then he would have been an option when they were looking for a replacement when Dalglish was shown the door. He was not even mentioned.

For me a manager like Guus Hiddink would be a good shout otherwise Frank de Boer and then he can bring the brilliant coaching setup with him from Ajax.

    ReplyDelete
  9. If results do not improve soon then surely FSG will pull the plug. Making as much money available to Rodgers as they have surely would have come with guarantees from BR.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Borussia Dortmund are currently joint third bottom of their
league, 1 point away from bottom with apparently one of the best young mangers in world football. People were calling for Louis Van Gaal to be our manager before Brendan. Until 2 weeks ago he had one point less the David Moyes at the same stage but spent millions more then him, and Man U had the Champ League with Moyes.
It is my opinion that the fans calling for Brendan to be sacked need to wake up and stop living in the past. We have a had a terrible start but
have we already forgot last year? Changing our manager every season is not the answer. West Ham and Newcastle have surly proved this.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Agree and brining back Benitez will divide fans in totality. That is the last thing that the club needs.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't think for a minute that BR's goign anywhere, but if FSG is looking then I htink the Euro papers have it wrong. If I were FSG I would be looking into Klinsmann's availability. I know he loves living in America, but sooner or later he must face the reality that US Soccer is never going to attract the best American talent because it will always be siphoned off by the lure of the money in the big four: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL. Thus his chances of bringing US soccer on par with the rest of the world are doomed. Liverpool would be a worthy challenge for such an attack-minded manager.

  13. I have not called for Brendan to be sacked but to go from the most exciting team last season to the most predictable and boring team this season after spending +-£120m and we have to lower our expectations?

We deserve better than amateur tactics which is what we have got from Rodgers this season.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It is strange that the news was via the Italian media but who says that could not have been a message sent to let BR know that he either needs to shape up or ship out. It would be madness to get rid of BR now but with the way things have gone he looks totally and utterly out of his depth. Let's see if Sturridge is going to help his cause, that is if he can stay fit.

It is one massive mountain to climb for Rodgers, let's see if he has what it takes...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Out of the five, Benitez should be the number one choice simply because he is a great manager and he can/will attract big signings and Liverpool undoubtedly NEED a manager like this.

    ReplyDelete
  16. By the same token, it seems like a poor business decision to give Brendan so much money and then fire him without giving him a full season to implement his signings.

I'm not sure who we could get mid-season anyhoo. de Boer seems slightly desperate to leave Ajax, so maybe he'd be interested. Spaletti still hasn't taken a job after Zenit, so he could be an option.

    ReplyDelete
  17. There's no chance of Garcia leaving mid-season and I doubt he'd even come at the end of the season unless his Roma project falls into disrepair.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Rodgers should go.....and go ASAP. He has no tactical ability, and clearly cannot bring any balance to the team.

Rafa is the best man for the job (and should never ever have been sacked).

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'd be weary of Hiddink. He hasn't had a proper full-time job in club football since he left PSV in 2006. Had a caretaker shift at Chelsea and a year at Anzhi but he's just had international mostly, since 2006. He's getting on now as well.

I'd also have to think that Ajax have some sort of policy about letting chunks of their coaching staff go. I imagine they have a strong policy of continuity for when head coaches leave. I'm just speculating though.

    ReplyDelete
  20. They probably had loads of faith in Rodgers after almost winning the league last season. FSG are businessmen. Rodgers was like a kid in a candy store when he got all that money and now FSG have been left with some cookie crumbs.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No thanks to all of those 5.. If god forbid FSG pull the rug from under Brendan, I see Diego Simeone as the only real contender for the job...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Never even heard of Lucien Favre, had to look him up to see where he works, so no thanks. Simeone is looking to leave Atleti at the end of the season... prehaps FSG can wait if they are serious about sacking Brendan, and are serious about taking the club forward.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Whatever happened when Benitez was in charge under him we were real european treat ranked number 1 in Europe. Please come back or bring him back Rafa Rafael Rafa Benitez

    ReplyDelete
  24. All ifs and buts .no matter what happens can't see anything happening in jan,if we are off champions league places by a distance fsg would be mad to further fund Rogers, want Rogers to make decisions ,pick manquillo and Moreno/Enrique as full backs ,let him chose best cbacks and stick with it.fsg should really think hard abouts Gerard's contract,he is not really playing like he would deserve one ,to fund a 2 year deal might cost 10/15 million, imagine flak club will get if Gerard's form continues as it is,actually it's not form that's gone it's legs, would be crazy .anyway hate changes in manager mid season,so fsg might just right off season and clear decks in May if things don't improve, hindsight is a great thing I know but buying a marquee replacement might have been better option, please don't start with guff over not attracting best players,if you pay it they will come

    ReplyDelete
  25. Agree, we should be looking forward, not back to past glory, and as successful as Benitez was at LFC, he was his own worst enemy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Are you mutd fan beacause a real lfc suporter wouldnt post this comment at all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If BR has to leave, the next manager should be someone who can attract players with his stature. E.g Pep/Anceloti/Morinho/Diego Simeone. Remember, we are LFC thus we have to bring in big names, not some mid-table managers.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Or it could be just more made up drivel from the press

    ReplyDelete
  29. When you wake up could you give us your realistic options?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah, no going back and like i said in another post, doubt FSG will bring back Rafa in any case especially when one of the men who relived Rafa of his job Ayre and was part of bring FSG to the club. FSG would have asked many question about Benitez and plenty of information would have been passed onto them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Really we don't need a new manager, we just need the one we have to wake up to the reality that we need a dedicated DM. Get that position right, and things will improve defensively aswell. Itonly makes it worse trying to force Gerrard into that position... Brendan should realise Pirlo managed it because the Italian league is slower and less physical... Easy solution, keep manager and buy world class DM for however much it costs....

    ReplyDelete
  32. But it did not go via the British media. They could have made it up too?

Is it not a bit of a coincidence that the news came from Italy???

    ReplyDelete
  33. Joint manager job, Hodgson and Moyes :-o

    ReplyDelete
  34. I cant defend that. I am as disappointed as you. But apart from Chelsea who is having a good season out of the standard top 6 teams?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I dont see Falco or Di Maria Ozil tearing up the league? Kinda disproves your opinion regarding top players making the difference. Can you tell me the big names that Diego Simeone has attracted

    ReplyDelete
  36. Benitez comes with a legacy and an attitude. He's had a fallout with every owner he's worked for and people also seem to forget the crap that happened with Alonso and Ayesteran. In hindsight, I feel his tenure wasn't all that great. Even the stuff we did win we won by the skin of our teeth. o'Neill is great for managing small clubs and a side like Ireland. He'll get results with mediocre players with his playing style and personality but not a manager for a club with our transfer budget. Martinez will just not ever happen considering the club he's at right now and I'm not sure I'm all that impressed with his transfer record at Everton either. We should stick with Rodgers if we'd go for Martinez. Blanc? Great football player, can't see what he brings as a manager. So Klopp is the only viable option out of that list for me. Thing is though, every time we change our manager, the guy who ends up getting the job is always a guy who wasn't on anyone's shortlist.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why are we looking at the other teams around us? Just because Spurs is having another bad season does not mean we have to especially finishing 2nd last season too.

Rodgers is going into his 3rd season. If he was still in his first season and we were playing sh!te football as we are now then it would not bother me as much. We are going nowhere this season and find ourselves in Hodgson territory.

Now Sturridge is the player being depended on to turn our fortunes around after spending £120m? Not on.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Its our first bad patch since 18 months or so when he got Studge and Phil. Its his 3 season, correct but 1.5 of those seasons we were world class. Even Pep recognised this.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Rodgers will probably have his big decisions made for him by players making their intentions clear in the January window. Both Gerrard and Johnson will opt to go, this will ensure we finally get a quality RB and finally put a round peg in the round hole that Gerrard will leave behind. The players making these decisions will bail Rodgers out as I suspect between now and January we will have stable results but not great results. Then in January the team will finally start to click again with a renewed sense of optimism with the future of the players a lot clearer. If all goes to plan we will finish top 4 and Rodgers will learn from his mistakes and go onwards and upwards.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We will see whether he has what it takes to turn it around. From what i have seen so far is that his stubbornness will be the end of him.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The problem is that he sold Suarez, and everybody knew it was going to be a blow - espeically since him and Sturridge masked our defensive woes. With the money, he should have went on to sign a proven striker so that we would not have this bad patch and our form could have carried on into the new season - instead we are all relying on Sturridge to single-handedly turn arond our season.

    ReplyDelete
  42. This. Although Rodgers CAN turn things around, he won't unless he gets his head out of his arse.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am not feeling positive to be honest and the fact that we cannot rely on Sturridge's fitness is a massive problem for BR.

Our football has been freaking awful this season. Even Big Sam is putting us to shame. It is that embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion, man.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 213 million!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Dammit, Ash. I posted that clip an hour ago but it went up for moderation.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Are you making a tenuous Rafa connection here?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Absolutely agree mate.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Mandzukic Griezman off top of my head- 2 players we could be doing with

    ReplyDelete
  50. Great minds and all that.....it seemed to be more appropriate than 'I am the Walrus'.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The earliest Brendan goes would be end of December.

He's going to get an opportunity to get to the knockout round by winning the last 2 CL games.

I just wonder who would be brought in to finish the season. Surely, they wouldn't ask Kenny to do it, would they?

    ReplyDelete
  52. He changed it mid way through the first season and there is no reason why he won't again. We agree yhe tactics are not working but he had more time to prepare and change last seadon. Which he did. But this season you can't just change ways of playing without practicing it. It's not fifa there needs to be time on the practice pitch. His stubbornness in not wanting a dog and defensive coach will be his undoing. He hasn't the time for every aspect of runningbthe club and the sooner he understands thatbsga better.

    ReplyDelete
  53. How is that a coincidence? Do we have an Italian link other than our poor forwards?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Koo koo ka choo

    ReplyDelete
  55. That's the problem though, and that's what worries me most... Brendan has not shown an aptitude for strategically getting the most out of his players that he currently has.

He's not suiting their strengths or adjusting the strategy based on the players at his disposal. He keeps Balotelli isolated up top. Keeps playing Stevie in the holding role. Henderson out wide. Sterling out wide.

Persistent upon playing Johnson or Manquillo. Doesn't utilize his bench nearly enough. Puts Lambert on as a last-gasp desperation with about 10 minutes left, when Lambert needs time to get going in a game.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am being sarcastic? The fact that the Italian media have reported this story before the British media is just very strange. You would think it was the other way around. If it came from the British media when we are not even half way through the season then who would believe it?

    ReplyDelete
  57. He changed it midway through his first season and has gone back to the way we played when he joined the club. Why did he change the way we played midway through his first season?

He is also far to arrogant.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hopefully no one because even if it were true, tutto whatever certainly wouldn't be the ones to have the inside story on it.
Jaimie has used this story to start debate on who should take over from Rodgers should the worst happen. The story itself is undoubtedly just an easy column filler for some lazy Italian journalist

    ReplyDelete
  59. He changed it to get the best out if the players we had and had bought. It worked. He is arrogant but that doesn't mean he doesn't see what's wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  60. So all that is a waste?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I don't know mate. Like I have said before, this could be a message to our manager to let him know that he needs to start producing the results.

If you were the owners, just seen £120m being tossed into the air and seeing the season slowly going down in flames, are you just going to sit back and eventually sweep up the ashes?

    ReplyDelete
  62. There are so many obvious things wrong at the moment, so why has Rodgers steadfastly refused to change things already. In a post below, @islesfan74 outlined perfectly how Rodgers is refusing to adapt, and by the time he figures it out, it may be too late to save LFC's season.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Spot on - these are glaringly obvious problems, and it's alarming that Rodgers hasn't taken action already to solve these issues.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Rodgers is arrogant they all shout. So what! When we were winning loads of games last season that was seen as a good thing. He's confident, would it be better if that confidence had visibly drained away. I don't think so. Rodgers can't get the most out of a squad that's another favourite cry. Was that what was being said last season. Taking that squad to the brink of the league was one hell of an effort. Are Liverpool struggling? Yes. Is Rodgers having a difficult time of it? Yes. Has he earned a little patience? Yes. We should be wary of all this replace Rodgers talk. 5 years ago there was a lot of people shouting to get Benitez out and look what happened there. The club needs stability. Not another new manager. We are 4 points off a champs league spot with 27 games to go. People need to take a deep breath and calm down a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  65. If saving it is top 4 finish than it wont be late for a couple of weeks because all other had a bumpy start. But figuring out has to start right about now. Daniel will be big help in that...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yeah, that's a sad indictment of Rodgers' performance in the transfer market: despite spending £210m+ on players, LFC's season seemingly hinges on the impact of one single player.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Rodgers has gone back to possession football and slow build up play from the back. Mirror image to when he first joined the club. His stubborness has shone through as he has refused to play any other way except for basically the Spurs match this season. .

    ReplyDelete
  68. I doubt Gerrard will go in January. For me, he's got a massive ego, and at LFC, he is guaranteed to start every single game. He won't have that somewhere else, and he also won't be revered as much by the fanbase.

    ReplyDelete
  69. We cannot not rely on Daniel's fitness and if we are banking on him to see us finish top 4 then we are buggered.

    ReplyDelete
  70. but what has Rodgers ever won?

    Nada. Zip. Nothing. Zero.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Actually, he won the 'manager of the month' award for September 2013.

    So there.

    ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Rodgers is still a very young manager. What did benitez win in his early years as a manager.

    A big fat 0.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Not really understanding what that's got to do with giving him some time. It's 6 months since he brought us to the brink of a league title. Has he suddenly become a bad manager? I don't think so. Patience required.

    ReplyDelete
  74. LMA Manager of the Year 2013–14

At least make it sound slightly better...

    ReplyDelete
  75. To be fair he won La Liga twice with Valencia which was a hell of an achievement as well as the UEFA cup

    ReplyDelete
  76. I am talking about when Rafa started out as a manager.

    ReplyDelete
  77. you have pretty much hit the nail on the head , i think Rodgers can see what is wrong but like the king who walked around naked is becoming a victim of his own ego.Id advise that Rodgers reads some eckart tolle book on the pitfalls of listening to your ego it would do him a world of good.

    ReplyDelete
  78. He got 2 teams promoted before he went to Valencia

    ReplyDelete
  79. agreed Jk there is a certain petulance in all this paper talk

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree. Whilst some of his actions and decisions worry me I think he deserves a bit of support.

He obviously targeted a number of forwards which for various reason we were unable to land and we do not know what injuries or deficiencies his team selection might be designed to cover.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Benítez guided Segunda División side Extremadura back to the Primera División in his first season in 1997, but the team was relegated the following season.

    ReplyDelete
  82. but was he ever a good manager or purely some one who was hanging onto suraezes coattails

    ReplyDelete
  83. He also promoted Tenerife

    ReplyDelete
  84. apparently non....Rodgers entire league campaign seems to be rest on a player who about as robust as wet tissue....if you aint got a back up you aint got a plan

    ReplyDelete
  85. On what do you base the ego comment? Not necessarily disagreeing but can't say that comes across particularly in what he says.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Still did not win anything in his early years so to judge Rodgers for winning nothing when he has also got a team promoted is clearly being biased.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I would call getting 2 teams promoted is a lot more then nothing

    ReplyDelete
  88. So is getting one team promoted also nothing? Again biased.

    ReplyDelete
  89. i dont want rafa back but winning la liga with any other club bar barcelona and real is a hell of a thing

    ReplyDelete
  90. I never said it wasn't

    ReplyDelete
  91. Is that solely down to Rodgers? If players don't want to play for Liverpool then you buy other players who do. Which one of the players that didn't want to play for Liverpool would you have liked Rodgers to magic out of thin air.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I never said you did but the 'the dude abides' wants Rodgers sacked and is keen on having Rafa back and points out that Rodgers has won nothing when Rafa won nothing either in his early years.

That's all. As far as I am concerned Rafa can stay as far away as possible from being our manager again. I would rather keep Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  93. What's worrisome is that we can see this happening, and he's not trying anything differently to see what could work.

Doing something differently for the sake of doing it differently isn't necessarily the answer... but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

That's essentially what he's done this year.

And why we didn't use Kolo in that last game against Chelsea is beyond me. Talk about poor man management... how can these "fringe" players feel when they finally get a chance, play well, and then don't get called upon again.

    ReplyDelete
  94. there are a plethora of teams in the world with less kudos than Liverpool who pay lower wages and attract good players ...no matter how you wash it Rodgers has spent 200m on for the most part a lot of crap there are players like song who wanted to come to Liverpool and where available for nothing on loan but we ignored them.If swansea and Southampton can attract better players and for a lot less that tells me Rodgers is clueless on value and ability

    ReplyDelete
  95. I would sack BR not because of his lack of winning anything but because he has not fixed what was blatantly wrong last season - our defence, but also because he keeps insisting in a formation which clearly is not working, spending over the odds on players and then not playing them and for me the worst thing a manger can do, give a player a chance to prove themselves and when they do... drop them.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'll read what isle says. There are numerous problems but I can sort of understand pursuing a way of playing if he believes it will work especially as there is less time to prepare other ways. We talk about formations etc as if it is that easy. If it were it wouldn't be such a well paid job and all us couch pundits would do it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. they cant ...how disheartening you get Mom but dont keep your place ...no wonder lovren and co are playing crap they are untouchable

    ReplyDelete
  98. Who are you referring to? Who has set the world on fire and then been dropped?

    ReplyDelete
  99. He has a chance of turning this around, time is worst enemy right now and if results do not start improving quickly then the end will be nigh.

    ReplyDelete
  100. What Gerard wants is all the fan boys to come out and say please don't go Stevie we love to boost his ego

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah (like the Romans) what's he ever done for us?

    ReplyDelete
  102. No one has set the world on fire but certain players have done enough to warrant they keep there place especially when the so called firat teamers have been so poor

    ReplyDelete
  103. What leaking a story their not happy to the Italian gutter press as a subtle message to Rodgers to get his finger out? Give me a break. I'm pretty sure they'd just phone him up and tell him.
Anyway it would be madness to sack Rodgers now. We're not playing well but either are City, United, Arsenal, Spurs or Everton. Our season's far from over. If anything, with Sturridge return it's really just starting now

    ReplyDelete
  104. this season nothing ...on that logic perhaps we should give rush a go up front

    ReplyDelete
  105. There is a different between crap players and players lacking confidence. This team just needs to string a few wins together any way they can. Lovren is a good player, as is Moreno, Manquillo and Can. They just need some time and patience. Everything now is about instant impact but that's not always possible. I do agree with you on Song. I didn't understand why we didn't go in for him.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Considering how bad our defence has been this since and after Toure's performance against RM, he deserved to keep his place against Chelsea.

I would also say as much as this pains me, Lucas also deserved to keep his place after the RM game.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I do not believe he will. As much as losing hurts, its is the manner in which we are playing that hurts the most.

I do not know how many games we have to suffer before he realises the current tactics he is using do not work.

    ReplyDelete
  108. what worries me is the lack of co ordination or hindsight with transfers we have spent 40m on two Cb who apparently because of which foot they prefer cant play together that is ludicroud beyond belief in any other business you would be sacked for that kind of incompetence

    ReplyDelete
  109. Nobody is saying that. I would argue that Gerrard has been perhaps one of the best players to ever play for Liverpool. He has been magnificent, however everything must come to an end.

BR does not seem to have the guts to drop him and use him like Fergie used scholes and giggs.

Instead he creates a new role for him, a role he clearly can not fill.

    ReplyDelete
  110. ive given up arguing this logic .....hes playing quarter back sending holly wood balls down field to a lone striker who doesn't run the channels

    ReplyDelete
  111. Possibly but I shall (desperately) play the trump card that Rodgers sees them in training every day so he might see things we don't :-)

    ReplyDelete
  112. I do not think FSG would be keen on sacking Rodgers either, especially when they have just renewed his contract. It is a very expensive exercise. Let's also not forget, FSG would not want this to become a media frenzy by telling Rodgers 'your job is on the line' directly when we are not even halfway through the season. We know how Rodgers likes to make his view known to the media.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Maybe that is true but it does not justify the ego comments I was responding to

    ReplyDelete
  114. Clearly he is playing the wrong game - I concede :-)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Lmao... you know I have used that line myself a lot this season in a desperate attempt to support him as well.

  116. That's stretching reality a little. How many games has Sakho been fit for this season? Not many. That's the main reason they haven't played together. Time will tell if they can make a good partnership.

  119. when a manger ( see erikson/beckham ) mentiions a player in the Qb roll hes basically saying he isnt good enough but i cant drop him

  120. your probably right but then again stephen hawkins would give us more movement up front

  122. but i can go on and on ..hes payed 26m for lallana and there doesn't appear to be a role for him in the team

  129. patience is a virtue but not one shared by football fans ever im afraid ..if rodgers wants patience he should have been a philosophy teacher

    ReplyDelete
  130. The time to judge new signings is not after 3 months. Some of them won't work out. But why call them all crap after 3 months. What do people want a new manager? More new players struggling to settle? Another period of the awful word, transition. No, now we need patience and continuity.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Oh shame I quite liked the notion of a slightly shadowy Italian connection in all of this

  132. lallana played okay and then was dropped ? perhaps im missing something

  135. The glaring mistakes this season have been

    1. Lovren - We may aw well have kept Agger
    2. Lallana - We already had Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe, Suso and signed Markovic
    3. Balotelli - Square peg round hole

    Costly mistakes.

  137. All seemingly true at this time and with hindsight. I personally backed them all ans still hope they will come good.

    ReplyDelete
  138. So what? Maybe someone else was looking better in training. He's signed a lot of new players, he's still trying to find his best team. Lallana was only doing okay as you said, maybe Rodgers wanted better than okay.

    ReplyDelete
  139. very costly rodgers should of kept a war chest in reserve for jan ..that way he would have had fewer toys to play with but also had the option of buying more toys at Christmas if the ones he had didn't work

  141. FSG have backed KK and Brendan Rodgers. Both managers have wasted obscene amounts of money on average players.
I want Rodgers to succeed, but i have low confidence in him and the transfer committee when it comes to identifying the right players needed for Liverpool to challenge our rivals.
Last season it was five star entertainment. The football was exciting. We played with Playstation confidence of knowing we had plenty of goals in the team to make up for defensive weaknesses.
The only season that i enjoyed as much in recent years was when Rafa Benitez came close to winning the PL.We also had a exciting season in the Champions League that year too.
The next window is make or break. If Brendan Rodgers doesn't buy quality, FSG will put a red laser on his forehead and pull the trigger.

    ReplyDelete
  142. but okay was a lot better than the rest of the team

    ReplyDelete
  143. We would have scored more goals by now if Rodgers had not persisted with Balotelli up on his own. It is sad really.

  144. 66m for lovren, lallana and marko doris stokes would never had seen that
