Dream Deal: LFC hot favourites to sign 'amazing' €40m genius who wants LFC move

Like Fabio Borini, and Brendan Rodgers' hubris, the Marco Reus transfer rumour just refuses to go away, and new reports claim that Liverpool are edging ever closer to sealing a deal for the 'Amazing' German maestro.

Earlier this month, reports claimed that:

* Reus is Brendan Rodgers' top target for the January transfer window.

* Liverpool plan to offer him a 5-year deal worth €1m a month.

* Reus apparently wants the move, and all LFC need to do is agree a fee with Dortmund.

According to new reports today:

* Reus has abandoned contract talks with Borussia Dortmund.
* Liverpool are 'leading the race' to sign the German.
* Dortmund will accept a bid of £32m (€40m).
* Reus wants £180k a week to sign for the club.

If Dortmund want £32m, then that suggest the club is willing to sell in January. Reus has a £25m buyout clause in his contract, so if the German giants want to maximise their income, then it makes sense to sell him during the next transfer window. Plus, £180k broadly corresponds to the €1m a month Liverpool have allegedly offered Reus.

Whether it's January or the summer, Reus seems certain leave Dortmund sooner rather than later, and when asked recently about the attacker's future, Sporting Director Michael Zorc told reporters:

"There are many clubs, even outside of Germany, interested in Marco. We will continue discussions, and then we'll see if we can achieve a positive result"

LFC legend Jamie Carragher is a fan of Reus, and when asked last month about the possibility of the German coming to Anfield, he enthused:

“I’d love LFC to sign Reus. [He's a ] great player, and would be one of the best players in the Premier League.”

Imagine if Liverpool had signed Reus instead of Markovic over the summer. The Serb cost £20m - which basically corresponds to the German's buyout clause - and I have no doubt he would've come straight into the team and made an immediate impact.

Reus's stats this season certainly suggest that would be the case. Unlike Markovic and Lallana, the German is doing the business on a regular basis, and so far, he's grabbed 6 goals/assists in 7 games for Dortmund, which is a great return.

Is a player like Reus a major priority for the January transfer window? A prolific striker is arguably more imperative at this stage, but it all depends on what happens over the next few months. It's possible that Balotelli will become a prolific goalscorer for Liverpool, and if that happens, the need for another striker may not be as acute.

Similarly, if Markovic and Lallana start contributing goals/assists on a regular basis (along with Hendo and Sterling), then Reus may not even be needed. That said, there are certain top-class players that just have to be signed when available, and Reus certainly fits the bill.

  1. Reus would be such a great transfer. I will admit though that the rumor is starting to get annoying... Anyway, if we do get Reus I wouldn't be surprised to see a Markovic loan.

  2. It doesn't annoy me in the slightest. I love reading big transfer rumours. You are right about rumours that involve teenage starlets though.

  3. I thought Reus was a striker, similar to suarez? Or am I wrong? I haven't seen much of him

  4. He's not a striker, much more like a forward.

  5. Maybe we don't need another striker. I was harsh on Borini, but he needs to be rewarded when he plays well, and IMO, he should earn himself a start against Newcastle with Balotelli. Maybe Borini played in his natural position, with his fellow countryman, could pay dividends.

Even if we did need another striker, if I had to choose between buying Reus or Higuain in January, I'd take Reus every day. He offers a lot more, and he's simply a player that you don't pass by.

  6. I mean annoying in the fact that EVERYONE reports the same thing about every 30 minutes. Of course I love the fact that its with big players :D

  7. If Reus is available and willing to move to us then we should move heaven and earth to make it happen. I really can't see it tho. He'll probably end up at Bayern

  8. I often see Reus as a cross between a forward and an AM. He can really play any position across the front 4 or 3 (depending on our formation), but I seem him playing best as a partner to Sturridge, like an SS.

  9. Yeah ... we don't desperately need him, do we? Lallana is essentially the player we bought for that role. I understand that fans would prefer Reus but he simply wasn't available at the time and may still have zero interest in coming to Liverpool. Bottom line is that Reus will be in high demand and he gets to choose where he goes. It's totally up to him. Every team that wants him will be willing to pay the asking price so he just has to decide which club he likes the best. If he wants to come here I absolutely would not argue, Rodgers will find a way to make it work and if that means less time for the likes of Markovic or Coutinho or Lallana then it's a bit of a shame but we need to consistently do what is best for the club, not the individual players.

Don't be surprised if it's Bayern. Dortmund fans would be justified in feeling like the whole thing is a joke the way Bayern just accumulate the best players in Germany. It actually does much to detract from the recent attraction of the league and the administrators should have a good hard think about what something like that represents. Having teams like Dortmund be competitive at the top tier of European football is a big deal for the Bundesliga and allowing Bayern to continue to take their best players is demonstrably damaging. Dortmund will get out of their current form slump, they are better than this, but having your top players continuously syphoned away is difficult to deal with. They may not be back in the CL next season because of it and if Reus chooses Bayern rather than an overseas club I think the Bundesliga needs to admit that it's got a problem.

  10. You bring up a good point. Right now, we have Balotelli, Origi, Sturridge, Aspas, Borini, and Lambert. We can assume that Aspas is on his way out, and that Lambert will take a "Toure" position and retire in about 2-3 seasons. That still leaves Sturridge, Origi, Borini, and Balotelli. If we were to get Reus (something I think we should pursue), we have too many forwards. I've been very supportive of Balotelli, but he just seems to be the odd man out. The other option is Borini, but he seems to finally be finding his feet. Either way though, it should probably wait until the summer given Daniel's current state.

  11. I think Borini and Balotelli will work together well. Who knows how Rodgers will use them but the combination of skills seems to match. Borini is quick and likes to get into the channels, get in behind. Mario likes to front up to the opposition and attack the goal. They will have very little chemistry together but all it takes is a couple of good moves, just like the goal against Swansea showed. One good pass, one moment of synchronicity. We might see a diamond with Sterling at the point, Lallana sometimes advancing on the flanks. I'd like to see how that works out, what those two strikers can do together. Maybe it won't work but I'd like to see it.

  12. Adding to that, Reus would give another whole new dimension to the attack. I think he would be AT LEAST a very good imitation of a Suarez replacement. He's fast, he's tricky, he can pass, he can shoot, and he draws in defenders and creates space. He would answer a lot of creativity problems.

  13. What are you suggesting could be done to stop Bayern buying all Dortmund's players? If Bayern meet the players release clause and the player chooses to go there, I don't see there being anything anyone can do about that.
I agree with you on your general point I just don't see that anything can be done about it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It is quite a joke, but I'm struggling to think of what can be done. Maybe some limits placed on how much you can purchase from domestic rivals...

    ReplyDelete
  15. You're right, there is very little that could be done. It would be a legal nightmare to try and enforce any kind of rules - these clubs are multi-million pound entities with massive influence and they should, by rights, be allowed to operate under normal EU employment laws. Still, the first step to dealing with a problem is admitting you have one. Maybe it's always been this way and I guess it's little different to how Bareclona and Madrid operate in Spain.

  16. I've been keen on Reus joining us for a long time and was hopeful he could be brought in during the summer. But I think that boat has sailed for Liverpool and someone else will come in for him. However, it would be a massive signing for us if he was convinced to join. He would stroll onto the first team sheet and is good enough to play anywhere up front. I can see him partnering Balotelli or Sturridge depending on formation. I think to have Reus, Sturridge, Balotelli and Origi next season would be pretty impressive. Borini is trying hard to muscle his way in, but I really don't think he has what's needed, so he will probably have to leave at some point.

  17. Liverpool is deep at the attacking midfielder position with the likes of Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling, Markovic, etc, but when you have the opportunity to sign a player in the class of Marco Reus, you cannot pass it up, point blank period.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I do not see Reus coming and i would bet all Liverpool have done is contacted his agent got a possible price and walked away this is nothing but a trumped up rumour, most likely started by his agent.
Reus is a great player but is injury prone the extra physical nature of the EPL would likely deter a lot of suitors due to his massive wage demands.

  19. Reus might play in a similar position to some of our summer signings, but I think he's a significant upgrade on any of them. He should have been one of the summer signings, along with a powerhouse midfielder (Diame or Alex Song come to mind). From what I have seen of Reus, the major difference between him and our other wide attack/ attacking midfield options, he carries a genuine goal threat and could in fact play as an out and out forward. We were at our best last season with the rotation in the attacking positions meaning opposing defences didn't know who to mark. Reus, Sterling and a fit again Sturridge would give us that again. I've learnt my lesson about writing players off who struggle in their first few months because of how well Hendo has developed. I think Markovic has quality and will come good. I think where Brendan got it wrong was that we did need a bigger squad, but we also had a major hole to fill in the team that required immediate results. We should have signed 4 players of real top quality rather than the scatter gun approach we have seen.

  20. I highly doubt that Reus will come to Liverpool or Liverpool will splash the cash.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Gerrard admitted that he will leave Liverpool by the end of the season if the new contract is not offered.

    ReplyDelete
  22. talent no doubt but not an out and out striker. I'll believe we have signed Reus when I see him pass his medical. Don't forget these FSG are the same clowns that put Clint Dempsey on their website as a Liverpool player. The sooner these yanks get the hell out of Anfield the better

  23. The two Italians need to leave asap. Batoelli has already been sent home from one training session with Liverpool because of poor attitude. No supprise there. Origi and Jordan Ibe out on loan. WTF is that about and Borini is still here?????? Hopefully Rodgers will follow Borini and Balotelli out of Anfield

    ReplyDelete
  24. Markovic 15million too much was paid for him. If anyone one has seen him previous to his Liverpool days then you'd understand what I mean by that. Its not that he's not a good player he's not good enough for Liverpool

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why the f..k did we not go for Song...

  26. Would be a dream come true for me, that's for sure!!!

  27. why not just pay the buy out clause now to make sure carpet don't get pulled out like always

  28. I met Ian Ayre in London a couple of weeks ago and asked him to please get Reus and he said "No fucking chance" Hopefully like BR and the Ballo comments, he was was talking rubbish and this deal will actually happen. Can't see the really big guns not coming in for him though. Would be a dream signing.

  29. I hate the media for whipping up these stories and making us dream.

  30. he is targeting the billion mark

  31. signing Reus is the best the that liverpool can do

    ReplyDelete
  32. Reus is a better SS than either Lallana or Markovic and although all three are versatile and their roles overlap Reus can carve out a niche for himself.
For me in comparison to our current players his style is a sort of hybrid of Lallana and Sterling, though he's got a bit more power and a fair bit better finishing.
I have argued against getting Pedro right now, but Reus for similar money is almost a no brainer, assuming we do pick up a decent striker too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. please get him for us. we shall do in front
    of goal

    ReplyDelete
  34. Reus would be great but here are the reasons why he'll end up at Chelsea. 1. Had Rodgers had any sense he would have signed him in the summer in stead of Markovic. 2. Chelsea will spend 20 million on him but they will also spend 30 if they need to whereas FSG still need to recover from yet another summer transfer debacle. 3. If you are Reus and you can choose wherever you want to go would you go to an unbalanced team with strikers who couldn't score in a brothel or would you go to play for one of the best managers in the game and the currently strongest team in England? Right. My thoughts exactly.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You can apply the same logic to the top players we've already signed- wait a minute we have no top players- where could they be?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Because there is no buyout clause right now... It doesn't come into effect until the summer. Thats why Dortmund want to sell for 30+ M right now, instead of being bought out for only 25 M later...

    ReplyDelete
  37. its bull, we won't even be in talks,

  38. J.K you forgot one more thing from your list at the top your passive aggressive writing on B.R just remember where HE took us too last year If anyone deserves a little arrogance its him unlike you who at the minute is just another fourth rate hack with a chip on his shoulder or are you looking for a job on sky sports news?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Almost everyone in football would disagree with you. Clubs have been fighting for his signature since he was a boy, and he was outstanding for a successful Benfica side last season.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's not comparable to the Markovic transfer. The value of a move to Reus would be about £100m, with wages and fees. Markovic is probably £25m. The transfer money is the tip of the iceberg.

    ReplyDelete
  41. we are talking about the same guy...thats funny I didn't see any any of the big clubs in Premiership looking for him outside of Liverpool and I seen him countless times last season and at best he was average. Unlike you I don't just read what the reports say in the paper. Thats correct I use my eyes... you should try it once in a while its really a wonderful thing

    ReplyDelete
  42. Overrated overhyped and overpriced- which big clubs were after him? I don't remember any? BR will keep him and play him and he will irritate the hell out of us

    ReplyDelete
  43. wouldn't be supprised with the way he spends

  44. good for you.. I've been keen on your mother for some time as well but ain't no way I'm paying 25 million for her and 180k a week in maintenance

  53. right and wrong...Reus won't end up at Chelesa He'll more than likely end up in Manchester red or blue if Bayern doesn't pull through which it may not as Reus is Dortmund since he was a kid the club he supported. Reus going to Baryen is like Gerrard going to Man Yoo. Not quiet sure but Chelesa a team who clearly don't need him and more than not he'll wither into obscurity at Chelski to be PC about their name. FSG should be more like SFJ "some f..king joke" FSG supposed to actually have a clue about running and managing sports franchises and teams not what I've seen so far. Rodgers wasted sorry...over spent on what he got in, in the region of 60 million. Lallana, Moreno two positive signings who fit the mould we had last season the rest of the signings should be enough to cost rodgers his job. If Reus actually comes to fruition I'll be amazed, delighted but amazed. Big players don't come to Liverpool anymore, they are made here and move on. Torress, Squarez and so on. Hopefully we can push for a Europa league place and maybe a semi final in the leagie cup. On a good push on from last season

  54. but it was...super mario because I can't spell his second name was a panic buy...top class managers don't panic buy

    ReplyDelete
  55. We'll see where he ends up. Can't see it being at Liverpool unfortunately

  56. I used Chelsea as an example of a club that knows how to build a winning team. A club managed and ran with purpose. A club like were not. I dont know where he'll end up but it will be a club like that. Not like ours
