Shock Transfer: BR wants to dump struggling LFC man & sign 'incredible' £25m star. Surprise?

Liverpool are reportedly considering a rather improbable January move for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

You're Out: BR to rep

According to The Guardian today:

"Brendan Rodgers...wants to replace him [Simon Mignolet] with Joe Hart, who fears that he could be for the chop at Manchester City given their reluctance to offer him a new contract".

When asked this week about his future at City, £25m-rated Hart told reporters:

"Anything about a new contract is news to me. I’ve heard nothing. I’ve got a year, nearly two years, left on my deal. That is all I am aware of."

'Incredible' Hart has a patchy history under Manuel Pellegrini, but last month, the Spaniard appeared to have buried the hatchet with England's alleged 'number one goalkeeper', claiming that Hart is the 'best goalkeeper in England'.

It's an interesting idea, but to be honest, I'd rather not see Liverpool become England Mk 2. The national team's dire underachievement over the years is (IMO) partly linked to mentality, and Liverpool don't need anymore perennial underachievers in the squad.

England is a poor footballing nation, and never win anything, and if any more England players infiltrate LFC, the club will inevitably suffer the same fate.

Still, Hart is a much better option than Mignolet, but not for £25m (!)

EDIT: Gosh, some people have a disturbing inability to see the wood for the trees, so I will spell it out for those twisting my words:

This is not about nationality per se. There's no escaping the fact that on the international stage, England is a poor football nation. Under various managers, the national team has repeatedly failed to excel at major tournaments, and if Liverpool is stacked with players who are part of that fail-culture, then there's a possibility that it could negatively impact on the club.

Despite having some individually superb players, England have consistently failed to progress for almost 50 years, which (IMO) suggests that mentality is a large part of the problem.

The fact that Hart is English is not the issue; the prescient point is that Hart is part of a national team with a history of abject failure, which just happens to be England. If Rodgers starts signing lots of players from San Marino, I will make exactly the same argument.

  4. the major points i have noted out of jaimie's article are,
    - gerrard's role and giving opportunity to new players. in terms of buying, i think Rogers made the right purchases but players them selves lack commitment and that pace which liverpool use when playing games, against aston villa a team with a leaky defence held us for 90 minutes at anifield for the westham game, rogers new its a physical game and its the reason as to why we lambart was bought but decided to keep him on the bench in a game where we got very many corners tactically that was miscalculated like it or not every team has key players on which they rotate the game, look at any big team, it has 2 or three playes around which it rotates and liverpool is no different, i think it is time for gerrard to have more rest than ever before because we need him in the champions league and we have players who can cover his position in the premier league finnally leiva still has a role to play in our squad

  5. We're not here to aid Hart's contract negotiations.
If he wants to join us, let him make a move, but this stinks to me of him using us to get a new deal
Better than Mignolet though for sure

  6. Didn't he also blame the 'weight of the Jersey'? If that's the case they should probably look into using some lighter materials.

  8. His excuse actually makes perfect sense. And Liverpool may have spent 120 million, but they also lost a very important 75 million and Sturridge has been injured. After 5 matches I would expect LFC fans to be a little more patient and a lot less Manchester United. This article is rubbish!

    ReplyDelete
  9. So it's good we didn't sign Di Maria or Falcao I guess right? I mean Manchester United are struggling with those guys, guess those were bad buys too. Right? Or maybe we should just give it more than five seconds before declaring everyone a bust and let them freaking gel.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Most times find Jaimie harsh but have to conceded these are great points above...was thinking same thing about llalana/markovic when i saw the start lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree.... lallana will come good once the team is settled. In the summer I had concerns about our keeper, not signing a experienced top notch DM (been saying for years) and a true world class striker to compensate for the loss of suarez....what ever the cost. Money talks theses days which i hate to admit, so why we did not go for players like di maria or falcao as a example. They did not go to utd coz they believe in the project, thats just for the cameras they believe in the paychecks.
OK man utd lost but going fwd u can instantly see the improvement and di maria reminds me so much of mcmanaman, what a talent!!
Anyway, hoping for a big improvement against everton with the return of some key players from injury.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Also, Joe Hart has won premier leagues. So he's not exactly a 'loser Englishman' on the domestic level.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Are you trying to place Falcao and Di Maria in the same bracket as Aspas, Borini, Alberto and Cissokho? If you bring in quality players, they will show their quality. Di Maria has already done this, it's not his fault that there isn't enough quality in other areas of the Man U squad. If it's possible to not be blinkered, then one can see that we currently share the same problems. Would Man U be any more successful if they had brought in some 10M pound players? No, the answer for them was to balance the squad.

As I intimated, I believe we have a decent squad, but we are definitely still short on quality, particularly in midfield and this stems from poor transfer policy which has been in existence at Liverpool for several years. Regarding BR's reign, spending 7M each on a couple of less than average players makes no sense and we'd most likely have been better off spending 14M on one decent player.

Regarding gelling, the players will eventually gel. But I'm sure we'll see that the squad will still be short on that necessary quality to compete in Europe and the EPL at the highest level.

  15. Can't see how Joe Hart is a 'perennial underachiever' when he has two PL medals. Also, James Milner was rubbished the other day, but produced a fantastic performance against Chelsea playing three different positions. He too, has two PL medals. Stop using the international scene to degrade English players. This poorly written 'article' reeks of bitterness to me.

Hart ticks all the boxes and excels in the areas that Mignolet struggles. But he's English, so let's not sign him. That's a pathetic point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Suso and his agent, have given up on LFC, and have been negotiating with Italian clubs, according to reports, if thats the case, I dont want to see him get a look in.

  17. It's not so much about will we buy Mata, that is if we're even interested, which I think we should be, but more to whether or not United would want to sell to us.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It's a bit racist actually. 'He's got skill; but he's English, so he's a loser'

    ReplyDelete
  19. Why the hell didn't BR sign a defensive midfielder? Gerrard obviously can't play every game, he shouldn't start in most UCL/EPL matches, and Lucas is just average now. Why oh why Brendan...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Totally agree. Well put.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lucas is not only average..but sub-standard. Both are now.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wrong..it should be "but I would take him over Lucas and Gerrard right now without hesitation..".. It would be best to have Mata with Coutinho, Lallana, Sterling and Markovich in the midfield with more creativities that can feed the striker. Don't want to see Lucas anymore and Gerrard too old now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lucas will get out..for sure

    ReplyDelete
  24. No it means I couldn't be arsed to name more. Torres started scoring the second he signed for us. Drogba did the same for Chelski. Sure there are plenty that get better with time and that is why they sign for West Ham or West Brom. Alonso was instrumental in us winning the Champions League. The fact that we have so many players that need to integrate is a choice the manager has made. He sold Surez, which I understand, and chose to buy 10 players to make his squad bigger rather than bringing in three or four quality additions for the same money. He could have just brought in a top keeper, they went for around 12 million this summer, Moreno at left back who also cost 12 million and have another 75 million or more (from what we ended up spending) to bring in a defensive midfielder and an attacker. And stuck to signings like Manquillo and Lambert to make up the numbers. In stead he's bought the biggest nutcase that ever walked the Premiership without possessing any talent what so ever. Cantona, Keane and Suarez are nuts too but at least they were good football players. And to top that off he's spent over 50 million on bench warmers in Lallana and Markovic.

  25. JK, really mate? “England is a poor footballing nation, and
will never win anything, and if any more England players infiltrate LFC, the club will inevitably suffer the same fate”.

    Wow.

Way to alienate the vast majority of your viewers mate. So
tell me how we are being ‘infiltrated’ by the likes of Sturridge, Sterling,
Lallana, Gerrard, Henderson, Lambert? We’ve always had great English players at the club, and many of them have helped, rather than hindered. Would you rather we got players from less ‘poor’ footballing nations like Spain (like Josemi, Pacheco, Riera, Ayala) or maybe Brasil (Aurelio, Lucas) or Italy (Aquilani, Dossena) or maybe Holland (Babel). Every nation produces a few duds but man you just can’t get over this England/Scotland thing. We get it, you are Scottish and that is awesome. It’s also awesome that you feel a rivalry with England, which
apparently is a strong thing in Scotland.

I actually had this conversation with a few mates of mine, many of them from various parts of the UK & Ireland, and the general consensus is that Scotland/England is like England/Germany. The English consider the Germans to be big rivals, real international enemies and whenever
the English host or travel to play the Germans, they come out in force, three lions and all that, whereas the Germans don’t really care. Honestly the majority wouldn’t even know they were rivals, they mostly just hate the dutch!
England/Scotland seems the same, The Scots hate the English, but the English don’t really care about Scotland, they are just geologically connected, and overlap somewhat in places like Newcastle…

So basically get over it JK, I don’t personally think you are being racist, you are just voicing your opinion (albeit stating it as absolute fact, as in ‘England are a poor footballing nation’), but if I were an English citizen, I’d be a bit miffed that you completely write off a nation that as produced some absolutely tremendous players, many of them from our own club,
and they have produced them consistently. Maybe they don’t do too well on the international stage, but to be fair, they keep hiring chumps for national managers and they don’t have the luxury that Spain or Germany have, where the majority of their team play together week in-week out (Barcelona/Real Madrid & Bayern/Dortmund).

Just take it easy buddy, people will start (and already have) to call you a racist, and you are probably treading the line. The only reason I stop short of agreeing is because the Balotelli tweets yesterday kind of desensitised me and other racist slurs don’t seem as awful!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Flanagan can hardly be called a regular for years and Johnson has been pinpointed over and over again as part of our high amount of goals conceded. Allen too has only been with us a short time and neither him nor Lucas can really be said to have a lot of impact. The best you can say about them really is that they had matches in which they didn't do anything wrong. Lucas has been giving away free kicks near the box for years now yet still he's allowed to stay whereas Agger had been a consistent contributor to our strong defense until Rodgers decided that Belgiums second keeper and PSG's fourth choice CB should improve that. Rodgers has had many a transfer window to improve his transfer dealings and he's been completely inept. Last year he went in for Diego Costa yet this year, with 75 million in his pocket, he drops that interest to go after Balotelli??? End result, Costa is scoring for fun at Chelsea whereas Balotelli got in one lucky shot against the runners up of Bulgaria. Or champions of Bulgaria, same difference really. In two years, he's wasted enough money to keep Greece's economy running for two months and it doesn't look like that will ever improve. He had his chance to prove his doubters wrong last summer and failed miserably.

  27. It's really poor from Jaimie. I expected some statistical comparison and point of view, and that would be quite interesting. But instead, it was just a quick copy of the quote and an insert of a long standing anti-English agenda

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think you've not focused on the part of what Rodgers said that these are "key players who have been with us for a couple of seasons". It's not that the new players are not good enough, period, just that at this point in time they are still adjusting to the system. In a few months this kind of excuse will absolutely be invalid, but I think for now it makes some sense. The players he's likely talking about are Sturridge and Allen. Sturridge we all agree is a very good player but the reason Allen is "key" is because he knows the system, not because he's better than e.g. Lallana or Markovic. In time I think Rodgers fully expects those guys to be regular starters, but for now they're still a bit cold on the system and I agree with him. Having Lallana in midfield, Markovic on the left and Balotelli down the middle means three new players with limited experience of how the team functions and I think it's a reasonable excuse at this point in time so early in the season. So the "key" players he mentions are simply the ones who are more experienced. In the future Lallana and Balotelli will be "key" players too, but that will take some time.

I think the selection of Borini reinforces this interpretation. Honestly - what does Borini have going for him? There isn't much except one thing: he's more likely to understand Rodgers' system. So Rodgers has picked a player of lesser quality most likely because he has more experience of team tactics. That reinforces what I'm saying: that Rodgers is valuing experience, not just quality. He doesn't think the new players are rubbish, just that they are yet to adapt to the tactics. I think that's quite different from suggesting that they are simply not good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You are a great judge of a player, I mean you have the foresight to know 'from the beginning' that Markovic (a player who has played 131 minutes for us and has actually looked like a very good player) isnt living up to hype. He's only 19 and is in an area where we have a few capable players. What do you want? A hattrick per appearance so that he satisfies your criteria for 'living up to hype'?
Lallana has looked pretty good since coming back from that extensive injury which kept him from even training with his brand new teammates at his brand new club playing a brand new system for a brand new manager. Cut him some slack. Lovren started very brightly, people calling him the saviour of our defense, then he hits a rough patch and people are calling for his head. I'd expect this of plastics or shite fans, but not our lot, I honestly thought that Liverpool was about being behind the players and staff, especially when they arent doing that bad! This isnt FIFA guys, you can't just off a player if they arent performing, there are steps you need to take.
Also, nothing against you bro, you're probably a great guy, but I'm really glad that you're not John W Henry, because your expectations are, for the most part, seemingly unrealistic.

  30. I'm intrigued about this Emre Can loan deal, how long is the loan for and what was the fee? I hope his parent club are paying his wages and that he does well enough for us to buy him at the end of the loan... Wait.... It's what?... Oh that's right, we didn't loan him, we bought him in a well documented move at the beginning of the transfer window from BayLev for E12m (matching his buyout clause). So no, not a LOAN at all.
Also, we have got cover on the wings, but as you may see, we either tend to play a diamond with 2 up front (no wide men), a 4-3-3 where we can have any of Sterling, Lallana, Coutinho, Markovic, even Hendo, Borini, Sturridge or Moreno/Enrique in a pinch, or a 4-2-3-1 where the 3 attacking mids can be any of those previously listed.
Borini and Lambert are also options, I dont know why that is having a laugh. Lambert scored a bunch last season and young Fabio did quite well on loan. Stop being a neg, the window is over for now, lets just keep on keeping on.

  31. i agree with jaime on that. england could not achieve anything with their golden generation in gerrard, lampard, terry, beckham, etc. what do you expect them to achieve with delph, wilshere, stones and welbeck ? average players bring average results. the fact that you assume the author is being racist is laughable. the comment was attributed to the dismal failure in footballing terms and has nothing to do with the "racial purity" of the squad.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Didnt Germany just win the world cup JK and how many of these guys played at some stage for Bayern Munich definitely an advantage to have most players from 1 side internationally speaking.
Even though i would prefer Germanys team at Liverpool to Englands.

  33. I think we are jumping the gun it was always going to take time to bed in these signings though i will confess apart from Balotelli and Moreno i hated the signings, and copped a bit over that attitude.
We all know some of the best signings do not always hit the ground running.

  35. 25 Million bucks is enough for me to say never he wouldn't be worth that much if he were not a pom.

    ReplyDelete
  36. He wouldn't be my first choice, but he's ten times better than what we currently have. Frankly, Brad Jones is more reliable than Mignolet.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Cheers Sharath, good to hear your thoughts. I actually made a considerable effort to suggest that he isn't racist, so I ask politely that you re-read the post. Also, I never suggested that England have had success internationally, in fact pointed to the reasons that they haven't. A side comprised of Hart, Baines/Shaw, Cahill, Jones, Walker/Flano, Hendo, Wilshere, Sterling, Ox, Rooney, Sturridge in a 4231 SHOULD be a very strong side, but they arent managed properly and few of them play together regularly.
The fact that JK referred to it as 'infiltrating' as if English players are some foreign devil is the only laughable point here. English players infiltrating an English team? Over the past 5 or 6 seasons, at one point or another, I have wanted us to sign Kyle Walker, Joe Hart, Phil Jones, Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Calum Chambers, Micah Richards, Danny Rose, Ross Barkley, James Milner, Ox, Andros Townsend, Theo Walcott, Aaron Lennon, SWP, Fabian Delph or Jay Rodriguez, all of these being current or ex England players. Hell I'd still take quite a few of those, as there are great players there, and it's very easy to make your point when you just name the young guys that have just been called up (and wouldnt be first XI) like Stones and Delph. What do you you think Germany could do with Rudiger, Rudy, Mustafi, Sorg and Sam? Or what could Spain achieve with Bartra, San Jose, Alcacer, Inigo Martinez and Michu?
I urge you to read properly before trying to slate what I've written, otherwise your comments tend to lack any semblance of rhyme or reason and just kind of fall in a heap. I do invite your response, always enjoy talking football.
Besides, what the hell do I care if he's being racist towards the English? I'm Australian. Pointing out that some may interpret what he is saying in a racist light is not the same as saying someone is racist, more that some people are prone to interpreting things differently to myself or you.
    Peace, YNWA

  38. ...by the way, our first two European Cups were won with a minimum of eight English players on the pitch. Those same players turned out for England and regularly got an arse kicking. I seem to remember we were fielding five or six English players for most of last seaso, too, and we didn't do too bad.... in fact our weakest area is the end of the pitch with the most foreigners on it - defence. If we MUST have foreign players, at least make sure they're fluent in English before signing them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. But can we count on him to be reliable? He's extremely raw, and unfortunately he's injured.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's not a choice the manager has made. We have had nine injuries to first team squad players already this season or rolled over from last. All players who played more than twenty games last season or new signings who either would have or have had game time already. The full backs have looked good but need time to gel. Lallana has shown signs but doesn't look match fit, Can looked good before the injury. So half the players have come invyobthe side have done well right away but with improve like Suarez or Alonso. The others we will have to wait and see. Henry didn't hit the ground running neither did Bergkamp. Jesus Henderson who didn't come from a different league didn't. Are these West Ham players? There are more many more in fact the majority.

  41. B Rodgers needs to first and foremost man up and drop S Gerrard(34) to the bench. Second of all, we all need to hope and pray V Valdes(32) can prove his over his injury and fit and ready to go. ( so he can pass medical)
And then B Rodgers can sign him as soon as possible and V Valdes(32) will become our Number 1 at club.

V Valdes(32) is poor at corners also, but his distribution, kicking, sharpness of coming out are much attributes he has 3 times better than S Mignolet(26).

B Rodgers needs to make it crystal clear to L Leiva(27) and F Borini(23) that he sees no future with them in it and they will be sold out permanently no Loan deals in January.

B Rodgers needs to ship these 4 players out in January:

DM: L Leiva(27) should be sold for £8-£11M
AM: Suso(20) should be sold for £2-£4M with buy back clause in it
RB: G Johnson(29) should be sold for £3-5M
FD: F Borini(23) should be sold for £10-£12M

Whilst B Rodgers will need to spend £70M on these 4 players in January to save our season and to bring more class, creativity, mobility, pace and speed to attack as when Sterling(19) and Sturridge(25) are not both in starting 11 we struggle to regularly stretch or get behind teams.

We need more players with class, creativity, mobility, pace and speed who like to run in behind defences and teams so when Sterling(19) and Sturridge(25) are not playing due to being rested, dropped, injury or sickness club can still get in behind teams on the attack and offer same threat to opposition.

    Ins:

Priority 1: class, energy, mobility, pace, protection to defence:

DM: L Bender(25) Of Bayer Leverkusen we shouls try and sign for £16- £22M

Priority 2: more class, creativity, goals, mobility, pace and speed in behind oppositions defences:

2: RWF: Pedro(27) Of Barcelona we should try and sign for £20-£25M

3: LW/ LWF: Y Konoplyanka(25) Of Dnipro we should try and sign for £10-£14M

4: FD: P Aubamayeng(25) Of B Dortmund we should try and sign for £16-£23M

I wouldn't sign him because he's too expensive for a 'keeper in my opinion. There are some very good 'keepers out there for less than that.

Our top 4 rivals, Man Utd, have a reall tough run coming up where you can see them dropping even more points, so it's imperative that we capitalise on that. This is one positive to consider: Utd have dropped heaps of points against the lesser teams with a lot more better teams still to come. We've already played at least 3 top 10 teams. But FFS Liverpool, sort it out.

We've been talking about how Gerrard needs to be benched in most EPL games, but this is one game he must start in. I'm expecting big things from him this Saturday, he loves this game. And it's also so key that it's at Anfield too, going to Goodison amidst our sh#t form would be extremely perilous.

sad but true, even if we call Steven Gerrard a legend, it doesn't reflect of our title winning aspirations & this isn't reflective of the ambitions and dreams of all of us

  72. I expect no more than 15 mill. He is one of the best out there so it would be a bargain.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Damn, is this backlash from the No vote?

England at the world cup had most attacking players from Liverpool, those players had just had the best season ever for us, Roy manages them totally changed everything to include put Rooney in his fav position after RS had a blinder in it.

Players were very capable the Manager screwed the whole WC up saying things like we don't expect to do anything here, we've come with no expectations. that was from one of the highest paid managers at the WC.

I see Hodgsons appointment as an absolute joke and an even bigger one that he wasn't instantly fired,.... but the biggest joke of all is Jaimie's anti English rant here

    ReplyDelete
  74. Wanted Diego Lopez badly. Looks like this is what we will have to settle for. Hart is good but not great and we need great players in our team.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I was really angry to see him go to Milan- we must be a better place for him which means we didn't go for him. And if we let them have Suso.. Uh don't want to see that happen..

    ReplyDelete
  76. lol yeah makes sense brah, after all his Scot & proud an anti-English posts

  77. Didn't know Pellegrini was a Spaniard. Last I knew, he was a Chilean.
    Too eager, Too early, Offside.

  78. I still have faith in Mignolet and I am not ready to give up on him. Lest we not forget, he looked like the solution to all our problems in the first 5 games of last season. He needs confidence and we should support him.

    ReplyDelete
  79. its coming from you know where mate

    ReplyDelete
  80. Of course, and I do think/hope he'll get better but Lopez is just already on the level required..

    ReplyDelete
  81. We have to forget about him as he is gone now. Either Mignolet improves or we have to get an experienced keeper.

    ReplyDelete
  82. He never played as DM since his last injury.

    ReplyDelete
  83. English, Anglo-Saxon- whatever :D

It reminds me of all those bigoted Liverpool fans who didn't want FSG just because they were American. H&G's performance created an unhealthy prejudice against Americans in our fan base.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Dude, it's also exactly like Melbourne/Sydney. Melbournians hate Sydney, always talk about Sydney, and think that there's a huge rivalry. In Sydney, we don't really give a flying shit about Melbourne.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Would rather Valdes on a free

    ReplyDelete
  86. now lucas can fill the DM positiopn or not,i am not sure about it..but starting him with gerrard is disaster

gerrard alone there at DM is hell now a days.. zero tackles in 3 games out of 5 and no real chances created says it all..big fan of gerrard but liverpool comes first

    ReplyDelete
  87. You are overreacting to an embarrassing degree. Bravo. For the most part, the anti-English thing is just banter. I'm Scottish, so I play it up a little, just as I do with my English relatives/friends. So please drop the cod-psychoanalysis. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  88. That's exactly what it is: a jape; banter etc. If someone takes the word 'infiltrating' seriously, and tries to ascribe some kind of prejudicial meaning to it, then that's just embarrassing, really, especially given the light-hearted nature of most of my posts relating to the England national team.

    ReplyDelete
  89. It's not 'don't sign him because he's English' - it's 'Don't sign him because he's part of football nation that consistently fails to perform'.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Germany have a history of excellence on the international stage; England don't.

    ReplyDelete
  91. What's pathetic is your complete inability to comprehend the main point of the article.

It's not about nationality per se; it's about how I don't want the failure mindset of the England team impacting on LFC. It could be any underachieving team, not just England.

Irrespective of nationality, the fact is the England team is a continual failure on the international stage. There is a reason for that. If Liverpool is stacked with the same players who continually fail, then there's a chance the same thing might happen at Anfield.

If Rodgers was bringing lots of San Marino players to LFC I'd argue the exact same point.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Why isn't Petr Cech in the conversation? With Courtois as #1 I would expect Petr to want to find another club. Too good to sit on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Your linkage between the international stage and domestic stage has absolutely no ground though. Teams have won the EPL and UCL with plenty of English players. Teams with players like Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Cole, Terry, Neville, Beckham and so on and so forth, a lot of whom still failed to consistently perform internationally. The 'English mindset' is something that is not at all proven to transcend into the domestic level.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Teams that win the EPL and UCL are not stacked with English/British players. Having 3-4 in the first team is fine, teams with 6-8+ English/British players consistently starting never win anything, and that is a fact. I include British players overall too as all British teams repeatedly fail on the international stage.

If LFC were to sign Hart and Milner (both linked recently) Rodgers could conceivably field a team with Gerrard, Sterling, Sturridge, Allen, Lallana, Flanagan, Hart, Milner, Lambert, and Henderson. Even without hart and Milner, that's 8 players who could end up in the starting line-up.

A team with that many Brits will never win the league/Champions league (IMO)

The article is clear. I specifically reference the collective mindset of the England national team as pertains to overall performance. I don't like to insult peoples' intelligence by spelling out every tiny detail in acute detail, but perhaps I'll need to do that in future.

    ReplyDelete
  95. In my opinion, Mourinho wouldn't sell us Cech. After we absolutely robbed them of Sturridge, I wouldn't plan on seeing any Chelsea players heading to Liverpool in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  96. We should never have signed Dalglish Then, because using your analogy Scotland are worse than England.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I thought all those things and just couldn't be bothered to write them so thank you for doing so

    ReplyDelete
  98. i swear pelligrini is from chille

    ReplyDelete
  99. No, that makes zero sense. Dalglish is one player; if Liverpool had 7+ Scots in starting line-up, it would also be a problem.

    ReplyDelete

    Jordan Henderson, come on down!

    ReplyDelete
  101. This has been an issue at the club for a few seasons ,,,a sort of backlash to the successful spell of a spanish coach ...behind the scene their was a desire to go british ..an identity crisis that has caused the club to appoint brit coaches and shoehorn average brit players.

it has been nationality first appointments that to me has seen a drop in the standard of player at the club and a wholly unnecessary struggle to retain top 4 status ...

it worries me that BR has made the same statements and seems to have the same mindset as KD and RH that they have to prove that the brit players are just as good as foreign ...why not leave that to some other team to prove and concentrate on bringing the best available no matter where they come from? why continue to waste huge transfer fees again and again when buying foreign is cheaper and more successful ...why not realise that the club is so special that foreign players are often assimilated in to the culture and love the club that we forget that they don't actually come form england eg Molby , Berger , Hamman , Alonso Grobbelaar , Hypia Agger Johnston etc

    ReplyDelete
  102. That's not psychoanalysis, cod or otherwise. It's a moral judgement. I'm saying that I find your attitude hypocritical. You defend yourself -- as bigots commonly do -- by asserting that what you write is intended to be amusing, and is perfectly acceptable in your social circle, which includes individuals from the group or groups you disparage. It's a pretty contemptible response.

We didn't have much time for that defence when Luis Suarez tried it, did we? "All my friends use that word! Everyone round my way thinks it's just funny! My friend Glen Johnson finds it hilarious!" Sure, Luis.

Chauvinistic discrimination in language is bad not because it's offensive, not because it's merely "bad language", but because it plays a part in naturalising discriminatory violence. Discriminatory language is always unpleasant, but becomes a more serious matter, I think, when discrimination and / or violence are prevalent.

But even though I've told you that violent discriminatory assaults happen in concerning and according to police statistics increasing numbers in Scotland between Scots and English -- suggesting that such violence is indeed prevalent -- you seem unconcerned, and want to hold on to your "bad" language, using it to shame others in the name of fun. Mildly challenged, you resort to sarcasm and insult -- indicating that you think the one who is challenging you is the one whose conduct is abnormal or antisocial, and not you, who has used chauvinistic language -- that the one who is calling someone out for the use of chauvinistic language is at fault, and not the one using it. I doubt you admire that attitude. So all I really want you to do is take a look at yourself over this issue and reflect on whether your attitudes are consistent with your principles, not to cure or diagnose you.

    ReplyDelete
  103. point taken. Seems that Lovren may not be the defensive leader we were hoping for. Since we seem to agree that we need a "wiser" goalkeeper that BR pull out the stops and get the best. The best available in my view is Valdes or Cech.

    ReplyDelete
  104. totally agree.we'll turn into a right bunch of layabouts.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Where's the '80110x'? PS I agree with you in any lingo.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Jaimie, no worries about deleting my comment, not overly fussed, but what rule did I breach?

    ReplyDelete
  107. I'm not saying they're stacked with English players, I'm saying that champion teams exist with English players. If a team can have 3 or 4 English players who excel, e.g you have Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney and Ashley Cole all setting the competition alight with foreign team mates, then I don't know what difference that makes if you have a whole team full of English quality, not just Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney and Cole. Those national team problems won't trickle down into the domestic team. It's clearly a 3 lions problem that has to do with management and playing style; the England team still has lot more individual quality that a lot of teams ranked above them. If you put them together in a domestic team, they'll be playing with each other every day. There's a big difference.

    ReplyDelete
  108. You have to use one of the most struggling footballing nations to get your point across. San Marino, really?

What happens with England does not effect Liverpool. Hart is a top keeper, he is a winner, likewise Milner. Why don't you just admit that this article was a simple copy and paste job of the quote and an opportunity which is always taken to stick the knife in.

Sterling is clearly effected by England's international struggles. So is Sturridge, so is Henderson, let's blame Johnson's poor form on England. Yep, you are right. Not.

Failure as a collective will not influence the individuals. Most of the England regulars are top performers for their club.

    ReplyDelete
  109. History does not kick the ball for you.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Exactly. Jaimie always likes to sit on his pedestal, held way above the average LFC fan. 'I don't do this, I'm objective all the time, cheating, never'.

The other week Sturridge was criticised for his selfish play and Jaimie linked it to racism. In this piece, his 'banter' is just a cop out excuse for a ridiculously unfair and biased idea he put forward.

Don't sign Hart, Milner - perfectly fine, but provide a legitimate basis for arguing so.

Last week when you conducted the poll, I said yes. Pls sign Mata. But unfortunately BR has splashed 20mil on Markovic and I seriously doubt BR will sign another attacking player.

We have another similar player in Suso, but for some f***ken reason, BR has not shown much faith as other players. NEWS: Suso just scored again after coming on for less than 10mins compared to Markovic who played full 90mins!

  112. With respect, I don't see why my reply has been deleted, effectively censored. You can defend your view but I can't. Such an egalitarian comments section then. My assessment of LFC's English players and their performances at domestic level prove my point.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Good target but i don't believe Man.City will release him very easy

    ReplyDelete
  114. For me LFC no needed to get Juan Mata...

    1) Please develop young talent to get more best result. They all have high skill but why need get more from outside.LFC have good material players inside the store.

    2) If they realy want to get high class players, they must go through to the real players like Marco Reus,Thomas Mueller,Sherdan Shaqiri,Mauro Icardi and others young talent but not for expensive players who cannot playing the games every week.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Just to back-up what I said before here's a quote from Rodgers:

"Mario is one of a number of players we brought in and for them all, no matter how good their quality, it is going to take a wee bit of time to gel with the players that were already here"

So he's not saying the new guys are not good enough, he's saying they are still to adjust and gel with the team. Losing "key" players who have "experience" is indeed a problem when there are otherwise a large number of new guys trying to come to grips with how we play football.

It's a consistent message from Rodgers. I'm not saying it's 100% valid, but I see the logic in it and I agree to some extent.

    ReplyDelete
  120. The point is, it doesn't matter when players like Lucas or Allen are injured because they have never had any impact on our performance when they played. You could play Rossiter or another youngster in their place and get at least the same end result. So in stead of spending 10 million on Can or 20 million on Markovic we should spend whatever is needed to get top top players in and trust on our youngsters when we need them in stead of farming them out all over Europe.

    ReplyDelete
