'He's a monster': Redknapp & Carra hail 'excellent' £10m Brazil star. Better than Can?

Big-money signings dominated the recent transfer window, with players like Costa, Fabregas, Di Maria, and Shaw dominating the headlines, but ex-Reds Jamie Redknapp and Jamie Carragher believe that one of the cheaper buys of the summer is also one of the best.

Speaking to the Daily Mail this week, Redknapp hailed QPR's £10m purchase of Brazilian star Sandro. He enthused:

"Sandro is an excellent signing — he’s a monster, exactly what QPR needed.

"He’s got a tremendous attitude and work ethic and is an infectious character who will rub off on everyone".

Carra is similarly impressed with the deal:

"I agree on Sandro. He’s a big strong player, who impressed me for Tottenham. He has a physical presence and QPR needed Premier League experience"

£10m is great value for a 25-year old Brazil international with Premier League experience, and it could be argued that Sandro is better value for money than Emre Can, who cost the same.

Prior to the QPR deal, several fans on the site suggested Sandro as a possible LFC signing, and with Liverpool still crying out for effective DM cover, the Brazilian possibly would've been a good option.

Is he better than Lucas, though, or Can? Like Lucas, Sandro didn't make Brazil's world cup squad, but he's a consistently steady player, and will almost certainly enhance QPR's squad.

Sandro seems to be quicker and more mobile than both Lucas and Can, and at 6'2, he's big, powerful physical presence. Have LFC missed a trick here?

  1. Sandro is a beast, but Can is equally strong(as we have seen in preseason). Sandro would have been a good buy, but I would have liked to see him as a replacement for lucas, and not Can. Can is just 20, and has potential to become world-class. The best scenario would have been if we had bought both of them and offloaded lucas.

Last season we all saw that Sandro doesn't fit in a high pressing side...
Can is the future, Sandro not.

    ReplyDelete
  3. That is a little unfair to Can as he has yet to start a game for Liverpool. Were only 3 games into a new season.

I would not judge him until he has had at least a full season.

As for Lucas.. Sandro all day long and twice on a Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ah I have such high hopes for Can... he has impressed so far and I see him playing anywhere in midfield except for the tip of the diamond. I really want to see him and Hendo dominate teams with Stevie pings behind. makes for a really dynamic midfield with pace, power and defense!

Even if we look at a midfield trio of Can, Allen/Lallana/Lucas and Hendo, we are looking at varied strategies and threats going forward and/or defending!

  5. Sadly midfield will probably have to pick up the slack because of Sturra's injury ;(

DAMN YOU AND YOUR BOLLOCKS FACE ROY HODGESON!!!!

The amount of goals Spurs conceded last year against the top sides... He also played the first 30 minutes when we humiliated them at the lane. The last time Sandro played a good game for Spurs they still had Bale and finished 5th.
Your comparison with Can is strange and provocative, but what's new ;)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Emre Can is definitely not slow especially when he has been selected to play left wing before and he is only 20 and still has many years to develop and even his stats from last season are better than Sandro's and had a brilliant season for Leverkusen while Sandro struggled for first team football.

Have we missed anything by not signing Sandro? Definitely not if he was going to be asked to play as a single pivot.

    no jaimie
    no sandro

morgan schniderlin is the real deal he is now adding goals he is the new viera and gerrards long term replacement alongside henderson

jaimie sandro seems quicker then can?

from what have you made such an assumption

    lallana is fit now
    ............................................balotelli
    markovic..............................lallana...................sterling
    ...........................henderson............gerrard

does not look bad but we will miss sturridge

    ReplyDelete
  13. Balotelli----------Sterling

    ---------Coutinho---------

    ---------Gerrard-----------

  14. When Sturridge fit-
    ---------Gerrard-------
    Lallana---Hendo
    Sterling-Balotelli-Daniel.

For Villa just put Lazar on the flank and replace him or Sterling in 60th for Coutinho or Suso, or both. And Can for Stevie.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Are you seriously asking me this question? I think it's fairly obvious how someone forms the view that player X 'seems' to be quicker than player Y.

And it's not an assumption, it's an opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:42 pm, September 06, 2014

sterling cant play as a striker

    ReplyDelete
  17. From what I've seen, Can is slow. Just because he's played on the wing doesn't mean he's fast. One particular incident stands out: against Man City, he got skinned for pace on the right by a City player going for the byline. When he pursued, it looked like he was running in treacle. From a standing start, he looks to have a lack of pace.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 4-2-3-1 vs Southampton and we were not that great. 4-3-3 vs City and we were ok but lacked killer instinct.

The diamond formation is the most well balanced formation. We suffocated Spurs and we will suffocate Villa. If it ain't broke don't not fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. He can, probably will from time to time..

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, very strange comparison considering Can and Sandro:

    * Basically play in the same position
    * Cost exactly the same.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:44 pm, September 06, 2014

fifa is a more accurate measure of pace
he has a sprint speed of 81

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes but in 'my' formation Sterling goes in that tip of the diamond place often...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:46 pm, September 06, 2014

no they do not play same position

    sandro is a defensive mid
    can is an attacking mid

last year bedner was the cdm for leverkusen
can plays in the same position as swenistiger even in pre season rodgers has used can in attacking mid like hyypia did in leverkusen

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:47 pm, September 06, 2014

    plus cost is relative to:

    -age
    - injury history ,sandro is injured a lot
-how much the selling club needs him
-how much money the selling club has

so cost is not a factor

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:48 pm, September 06, 2014

name me one occasion where he has played as a forward

    ReplyDelete
  26. Do you just make things up to support your point? Sandro is not 'injured a lot' - he's had only 3 injuries in 6 years.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:52 pm, September 06, 2014

"prior to qpr deal, several fans on the site suggested sandro"

i dont know how the fans on this site wanted but in general liverpool fans are very bad at scouting

    in 12/13 season
there was a fan frenzy over luuk de jong, diame and gaston ramirez

in 13/14 eriksen , soldado and lamela ,

    ReplyDelete
  28. FIFA, as in the computer game?! Seriously, get a grip.

a couple of months if i remember

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:54 pm, September 06, 2014

do you think they just make it up
they are very accurate more accurate then our eyes

    ReplyDelete
  31. So what? 3 injuries in 6 years doesn't constitute being injured 'a lot'. Lots of players suffer one bad injury during their career, that leaves them out for a few months.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You keep putting Eriksen in that crapgroup of players, and that is beyond me.. Plus, I would still take Diame over Lukas...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Exactly. Eriksen is a top player, and is one of Spurs' most consistent performers. He'd do very well at LFC (IMO)

    ReplyDelete
  34. What team have you been watching?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:55 pm, September 06, 2014

a player is more valuable if he has not suffered a massive injury that is why you did not want falcao

    ReplyDelete
  36. Never been a huge fan of Eriksen. A huge flat track bully who can do it all well against the small fry but when the big fish come into town, he packs his bags. Prime example was his game against us from this year and last year. But, huge fan of Diame and we could easily have gotten him. He has grace and physicality.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's not an answer; that's a diversionary tactic. You stated Sterling has played as a striker, so you should be able to answer the question.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:56 pm, September 06, 2014

    sterling has played as a
    right winger
    left winger
    number 10

and against crystal palace a right wing back

not one occasion as a striker

    ReplyDelete
  39. Go look at highlights of the City match. There is my answer.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:58 pm, September 06, 2014

well when he plays against us he looks the poorest player on the pitch
plus when i see him he is so lazy like berbatov

    ReplyDelete
  41. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:58 pm, September 06, 2014

diame plays for hull city now

    there is a reason

    ReplyDelete
  42. Totenham as a whole were crap, and not all players can play in all teams, but if given right position in the right team.. Passes, shoots so precisely, very good player.. Still sad we did not get Diame...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lukas plays for us for no obvious reason...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Nevergonnacrackthecode2:59 pm, September 06, 2014

he moved to a strike position but not a striker

coutinho playing whetre teh left back should be

does that make him a left back?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sterling did not play as a striker. He got into the box, like all attacking mids should. If you're not going to debate/discuss properly, then don't make unfounded assertions.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It is not just Tottenham. I have never seen him have a good game for his country and in the last Euros, he was outshined by Nicklas Bendtner. He is a good player in theory but different on the pitch. But, then again, Suarez was not the most proficient against the big clubs but look how he turned out. Still, I feel Lallana and Coutinho are better.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I rate if we gave him a bashing it could be an improvement on his looks lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. I am certain I saw a dozen of his great games for Spurs, but that is the most important thing- having Lallana and Couts makes me peaceful about not having him...

    ReplyDelete
  49. If you go watch the highlights vs Man City then it will show he played a striker role. Should I post the video to prove it?

    ReplyDelete
  50. The diamond still has a midfield three. Gerrard sitting and two midfielders pressing.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think it is just versatility Brendan wants so badly.. Sturidge and Balotelli often changed positions and were outside the box with Raheem in it...

    ReplyDelete
  52. Diamond Formation
    Same GK
    Same Defence
    Gerrard
    Hendo-Lallana/Coutinho
    Sterling
    Borini-Balotelli

    ReplyDelete
  53. Excatly, I've put Sterling on the wing because he will spend there the majority of the time there as he is lethal winger, but he will be in the position behind those two often enough..

    ReplyDelete
  54. Works for Villa and smaller teams for sure..

    ReplyDelete
  55. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:12 pm, September 06, 2014

    borini is not good enough
useless everytime he has played for lfc

    markovic can play upfront

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yes Lazar should get more chances than Boringini..

    ReplyDelete
  57. Give him a chance. He has a good understanding with Balo and is eager to prove himself after the summer debacle. Similar to the Rooney bicycle kick after handing a transfer request.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:14 pm, September 06, 2014

smaller teams are the games that are more important

    we lost to hull 3-1
    villa at anfield drew 2-2
    lost to southmapton 1-0
    drew to swansea 2-2
    drew with everton 3-3
    drew to west brom 1-1

those games we threw away the title

    ReplyDelete
  59. You can make that list for City and Chealse too.. We lost it in every match we lost a point.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:15 pm, September 06, 2014

are you actually comparing borini to wayne rooney ?

if we ignore goals scored vs newcastle and all his penalties he must ahve scored only 3 goals in two years at england

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not a hug the touchline winger. He ends up centrally most of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  62. And please do not refer to Everton as a small team.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:17 pm, September 06, 2014

jaimie is arguing the same as well
but if he was so good why did spurs get rid of him

because he is not good enough for spurs

    ReplyDelete

  71. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:26 pm, September 06, 2014

so a cl qualification makes them a big club?

they have not won a trophy for a number of years so small trophy cabinet
they have a small stadium and small fan base

    that makes them small

    ReplyDelete
  72. Several reasons.

First of all, his fitness, which is questionable.

Secondly, they're quite well stocked for defensive midfield players. Capoue, Dembele, Bentaleb, Stambouli or even Paulinho at a stretch can all perform a variety of different deep lying midfield roles.

Thirdly, the player may have wanted to leave to get more first team football.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:27 pm, September 06, 2014

where any of them 25 years old ?

sandro got his chance unlike mentioned players

    ReplyDelete
  74. The 442 diamond is for me the most attack minded system out there.
In 2005 we were ripped apart by AC Milan who were playing that very same formation. Carlo Ancelotti then took that very same formation to Chelsea and they ended up scoring 103 league goals that season which is still the record goals scored in the prem.
I wouldn't be surprised if United started using this system with their fire power.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Small teams in my book are those never near Europe. Not neccesarely big clubs if they are close, but certanly not small, speccialy if they have history, and they do..

    ReplyDelete

21 is when most players start their careers look at moreno

pirlo i thought you were talking when inter got rid

but if you are talking when juve picked him up he actually rand down his contract

    ReplyDelete
  81. 2) It's hard to beat a load of competition if you have to play under a number of different managers and you struggle for fitness. Hard to prove yourself if whenever you get a foothold you either get injured or suffer rotation (even more likely with the changing of managers at Tottenham). Doesn't mean that you're bad.

    3) Just a theory.

    ReplyDelete
  82. And Milan did not renew- got rid of. Like Chelsea did with Lampard.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:33 pm, September 06, 2014

its clear pirlo released himself like mcmannaman did and owen did

    ReplyDelete
  84. He wanted to stay, they wouldn't renew. Never mind that the point is there are number of reasons why teams get rid of players, and it does not neccesarelly mean player is not good.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Nevergonnacrackthecode3:42 pm, September 06, 2014

    i dont know
but italian football is a bad example

    spurs are a healthy team

    ReplyDelete
  86. A joke, people are bit racist?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I am saying that Rooney stayed despite giving a transfer request and had a point to prove. Borini could also do the same. If you think Rooney is too much os a stretch, one of our own in Jordan Henderson went through the same circumstances. How can you say penalties do not count? Then, by your logic, free kicks would also not have counted and then Gerrard would just have one goal. Borini was a star in a poor Sunderland team and arguably kept them up. He at least deserves a chance. I was indifferent to the Borini situation because if he left, we would have got the cash and now that he has stayed, we have a hard working player willing to run his socks off.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I said not to mention Pirlo - or the others who shall remain nameless

    ReplyDelete
  91. My only change to that formation is to keep the pairing of Henderson and Allen together. I'm keeping any changes to a minimum and hoping Borini's work rate will make up for the lack of talent that will be missing.

    ReplyDelete
  92. im happy for can to grow into the position for Liverpool he has all the qualities required to fill the roll, sandro has had his chance at spurs and failed and lets be honest Mr kanwar if he aint good enough for them he most certainly isnt good enough for us

Didn't he get in trouble for criticising Sherwood publicly, don't want another potential disruptive influence in the squad. Anyway he is an out and out dm which br doesn't use( until sg retires ). Also he isn't a hard trainer (based on some reports from his troublesome time past year) and since br gives high priority to training he won't start
    End of.

    ReplyDelete
  103. They had just bought Torres for fifty mil, they also had Drogba and Lukaku on the books. Sandro is behind Dembele, Paulinho and this new french lad I have never heard of. Slightly different situations don't you think?

    ReplyDelete
  104. No mate not at all. I have never seen anything to suggest Sandro has any pace yet we saw Can stretch his legs the other day. Esay enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I would not say it is the most attacking system but it is best suited to our pressing game.

3-5-2 for me is the most attack minded system but your defence normally pays the price.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Morgan Scheiderlin should be targeted next summer. He anticipates danger very well.Which is something a naturally defensive minded midfielder is able to do better over a makeshift one like SG has turned into.Schneiderlin would give our defence better protection than they get now.He doesn't go heavy wasting possession by forcing Hollywood long balls that most of time don't land on target.Morgans short play is on point and not the mixed bag SG's has become.
Steven Gerrard was the worst Liverpool player on the pitch against Spurs. His passing was awful.Anyone who disagrees should watch the match again.SG's bad performance was swept under the carpet because we won easily and he scored the penalty. That can sometimes Fabreeze how some view your performance.
Gerrard has put the club on his back and got us over the line in many matches. He gets a special pass from the media, some fans and Brendan Rodgers for that. However if he continues playing at this very low standard.BR needs to be brave enough to bench him.
I think starting Steven Gerrard in every match at his age is affecting his performance level. This International break has given him a chance to recharge his batteries.Hopefully he improves when we face Villa. If not we have good options in our squad.

    ReplyDelete
  107. unless Gerrard has uncovered the holy grail or has become a vampire the break will do little to alter his performances ....age waits for no man and football is a sport where you don't want the maestro on stage when the curtain falls

    ReplyDelete
  108. Nevergonnacrackthecode5:28 pm, September 06, 2014

i am for schniderlin as well

    ReplyDelete
  109. Gerrard is not a defensive midfielder and is not deployed as one either. Cannot see us signing Schneiderlin when we have signed Emre Can. The preseason match vs UTD demonstrated that Can has a very good range of passes and IMO will be the player to take over from Stevie. Watch this space.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Apparently she voted for Can

  118. Well done, quick to get 'on the ball'.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Even Rodgers will tell you Gerrard is not a defensive midfielder ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  120. i agree thats a decent line up there is also a case for playing Allen or can instead of gerrad now and again

    ReplyDelete
  121. my eyes tell me hes not a Dm

    ReplyDelete
  122. And that he is why Rodgers does not deploy him as a defensive midfielder.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Do you reckon BR will have the guts to drop him?

    ReplyDelete
  124. From what we have seen so far and Can's own interviews, Can is probably more of a central midfielder compared to Sandro who is a pure defensive midfielder.

Yes they cost the same, but Can is 5 years younger and, unlike Sandro, was still wanted by his club. It may only have been one season but Can was a first teamer at Leverkusen last season, one of the top German sides, whilst Sandro ended up frozen out at Spurs. Last season Can got extensive Bundesliga and also several games Champions League experience.

Whilst he hasn't got top-level international experience yet he is German so that is to be expected at his age, and Sandro doesn't look close to the Brazil squad at the moment and hasn't been for a year or two (albeit he had injury problems- which could actually be another reason for us not going for him).

Lucas isn't particularly mobile and certainly not quick, but I'm not sure that Sandro is any quicker/more mobile than Can, who has shown his ability to get around the pitch in his games for us so far. He is not massively pacy but neither is Sandro, I see them both as powerful runners similar to Yaya Toure when they get the ball. Can is actually around 6'2 himself and is definitely powerful as he showed in pre-season.

On the whole given Can's much younger age and versatility, along with his apparent superior ability going forward, I'm inclined to believe we got the better deal with Can. Having said that, I wouldn't have been against a move for Sandro, especially if Lucas is going to leave in the near future.

    ReplyDelete
  129. trig and math where never my strong points in the world of academia but im pretty sure that as the crow flies from our esteemed goalie Sg is usually the 3rd man after lovren and who ever...without nitpicking that kind of makes responsible by location regardless of whatever free pass rogers has given him ....to suggest that players further forward have to cover for players further back is ilogical

    ReplyDelete
  130. It is also illogical to expect ONE player to cover for our defence.

You need to go read up on Rodgers philosophy I think.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Rogers has actually Imo changed his philosophy to accommodate Sg ..he invoked a 3 man midfield where all 3 players pressed at tempo for a perod to recover the ball when lost with the last of these player Sg being the most defensivly minded and the furthest forward ...lets say sterling being the most attack minded.....you can arrange it how you like but the famed quarter back roll is essentially a free pass for a player who a manger doesn't want to drop but doesn't have the ability anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  132. In your opinion, how has Rodgers changed his philosophy? What was his philosophy then and how has it changed?

    ReplyDelete
  133. What's that about?

    ReplyDelete
  134. I have my doubts Funkdoc.SG is such a powerful character he'd probably start with a broken leg.Without Luis Suarez we'll still score plenty but another 100 goal campaign is unlikely. So defensively we need to improve to achieve a points total close to last seasons.
If Mignolet is picking the ball out of his net too many times.Brendan Rodgers could be forced to try someone else in front of the back four. The media would have to play their part to manipulate the minds of some who have trouble identifying bad performances. If that decision is taken by Rodgers it will most likely be made if many points are dropped.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Whatever term you like to use Logan:) Quarterback, deepline playmaker knock yourself out.The bottom line is he's played in the most defensive position of our midfielders.I think Steven Gerrard is used a DM but he plays it in a less defensively effective, non basic (attack wise) way.Than standard defensive midfielders like the Mascherano's of the football world do.
When we attack our fullbacks push on the centre backs split and Gerrard slots in central and plays from the back. The extra attacking responsibility doesn't mean his role defensively isn't to give our defence some protection when play breaks down.

    ReplyDelete
  136. to be honest sandro is not that good enough he better suits small club and i think he is not good with the ball either

    ReplyDelete
  137. the system we play doesn't call for an out and out Dm but the last guy must have the ability to shield the defence in his locker ,which can can do in both an aerial and physical sense in effect its a reverse sweeper position

    ReplyDelete
  138. The 442 diamond we use morphs into 343 or 3412 when Gerrard drops between the CB's. The manager as turned it into a very flexible formation.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Yes but some fans seem to think Gerrard is Superman?

Will Schneiderlin cover for our defence on his own playing as a single pivot and if that is what you expect of him then he will fail miserably.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Sandro(25) is a better DM than anyone at our club in all honesty, but C Tiote(28) is a better DM than Sandro(25).

If we are still in the mix for the league and get through to the knockout stages in Champions league:

B Rodgers should ship out these 2 players in January and bring in £ £18-£22M on sales:

    F Borini(23) FD For £10-£12M L Leiva(27) DM For £8-£10M

And then B Rodgers should spend £40M on these three class quality signings: who could and may end up helping us win two trophies this season.

1: DM: C Tiote(28) Of Newcastle for £5-£8M Vital player we will need in the knockout stages away from home for sure as S Gerrard(34) and L Leiva(27) do not have the energy, legs, mobility or pace to get around pitch and protect back four well enough. ( If we drew Barcelona or Bayern Munich in Knock out C Tiote(28) will be huge away from home in breaking up play and protecting back 4 especially away from home.

2: RW / RWF: J Biabiany(26) Of Parma for £4-£6M: Is a class quality goal scoring wingers with mobility, pace and speed to burn, he would fit in our system nicely, he would be cheap as the italian clubs are broke. And he would bring class, creativity and more goals to side.

3: FD: C Benteke(23) Of A Villa for £22-£26M : A Fully Fit injury free Benteke would physically bully the likes of Pepe(31), Hummels(25), Dante(30), J Boateng(26), Varane(21), Pique(27), Subotic(25) and D Luiz(27). And C Benteke(23) is mobile, has a bit of pace, direct , awesome in the air. good at holding ball up and bringing everyone into play and is a good finisher.

And B Rodgers is a huge fan of his, i think and feel if C Benteke(23) can get back fully fit and injury free for a few months, he would be awesome addition to our side and squad in January and he would cause so many problems to the defenders in Europe and in the league.

These three players would complete our squad and with those three players in squad, We would definately win a trophy this season.

    ReplyDelete
  141. S Gerrard(34) has been an amazing great loyal servant to club, but in all honesty he does not have the energy, legs, mobility, pace or speed to cope any more in the fastest league in the world which is getting fitter, younger and better players in year in year out.

B Rodgers should be bringing S Gerrard(34) Of the bench if needed, L Leiva(27) and S Gerrard(34) are struggling as they do not have the energy, legs, mobility or pace to keep up with probably the youngest and quickest side in league.

The games S Gerrard(34) could start against are teams like: Stoke, Norwich, Hull, West Brom and West Ham.

As those teams centre midfielders are not young or mobile like 75% of the teams in the premiership.

Last season when we played A Villa at Anfield, A Villa were all over us as A Lambert made sure F Delph was all over S Gerrard(34) like a rash. S Gerrard(34) does not have the legs or mobility to get away from Mobile nippy young central midfielders and its the same tactic R Koeman used against us with Southampton.

We did not play well against Southampton because Ward-Prowse(19) was all over S Gerrard(34) like a rash and S Gerrard(34) couldn't lose him at all. And that allowed Schneiderlin and Wanyama, the chance to close and suffocate Coutinho(21) in the game.

Against most of the teams in league with mobile nippy young midfielders S Gerrard(34) and L Leiva(27) should both be on the bench as its agony watching players no where near as good as S Gerrrard(34) glide past him with ease as he no longer has the energy, legs, mobility, pace and speed he had 4-6 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Rodgers tactically is very adept and he now has a squad of players to play whatever formation he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  143. E Can(21) is not a Defensive midfielder, He is a central midfielder. He is better offensively on ball than he is defensively without the ball we need a proper DM in the Mascherano mould brought to the club in January

    ReplyDelete
  144. Quicker and more mobile than Can? Have you seen how quick Can can be? JK, you sir are a ridiculous joke of a journalist

    ReplyDelete
  145. So you want Tiote to dictate our play?

Rodgers does not seem to be after an out and out defensive midfielder otherwise he would have signed one by now. He is looking for a player who can dictate. Tiote does not fall under this category I am afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Everyone mentions Pirlo(35) when mentioning S Gerrard(34) the difference is Pirlo(35) has always played in the slowest league in the world and always will and could probably play up to 45 in Italy.

S Gerrard(34) on the other hand has been playing in the quickest and most physical league in Europe for the last 14 years. ( 16 years debut, 14 years of being main first teamer)

The premiership gets better and better season after season and the players the class, quality talent in premiership is improving all the time. But the players are fitter, younger and in better shape than they the young players ( 10-14 years ago due to technology, diet plans, improved fitness and recovery methods etc)

There is no way in hell A Pirlo(35) would be able to light up matches in the premiership.

A Pirlo(35) shines when teams play at Snails pace and so would Gerrard(34) and L Leiva(27) still excel and not be exposed so often playing at that speed.

In the premiership you do not have enough time in centre midfield or anywhere, so Gerrard(34) Mind is thinking one thing and his body is doing another due to age.

schniderlin and reus man , maybe bony as well if balo does not settle
then we will be complete :

    ..................................................sturridge
    lallana.........................................sterling.....................reus
    ......................................henderson........schniderlin
    bench: balotelli,markovic,coutinho,allen

i also want a top right back any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  149. i wil give him -10 for whatever he did against us and all those corners that he took

    ReplyDelete
  150. Diame is as agricultural as a bear's ass.

    ReplyDelete
  151. after reading all of it i couldnt understand then why these teams full of pace and power gets dominated by those slower teams in champions league.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Please stop repeatedly posting the same thing about Schneiderlin. We get it.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Logan, what are J Henderson(24) and J Allen(24) doing in team if we are still having to rely on a non mobile ageing S Gerrard(34) who is on his last legs?

I Hate chelsea with a passion , but Mourinho is the best manager in the world as he has no need for sentamentality. He has now replaced most of the golden oldies. ( Lampard(34), A Cole(33) and now P Cech(32) is warming the bench. With the now and future players

    Courtois(22) replaces Cech(32) GK

    Fabregas(27) replaced Lampard(34) CM

    A Cole(33) was replaced by Azpilicueta(25) LB

J Terry(33) and B Ivanovic( 30) are still the best defenders that Chelsea have at their club. So until Mourinho gets in younger and better defenders to club, they will be there.

If Mourinho had of got Varane(21) in this summer, i think that would of been end of J Terry(33) at Chelsea. But Varane(21) may be brought in January or Next summer and then J Terry(33) will be relieved of first team duties

    ReplyDelete
  154. Exactly. It's all pointless semantics. Gerrard plays in the DM's role on the pitch, i.e. he is the most deep-lying midfielder of the three, and does defensive work in front of the back four, ergo Gerrard is a defensive midfielder. It doesn't matter what label you use to jazz it up, that is the role he plays on the pitch, whether people choose to accept it or not.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Gerrard is a defensive midfielder, whether you like it or not. He is also a playmaker, but he plays in the position of a DM, and fulfils a DM's responsibilities. Calling him a 'pivot' player/playmaker/central-mid/quarterback etc doesn't change the fact that he does everything a DM does (Sits in front of back four; defends; tracks back; protects central defenders etc). Plus, Gerrard spends more time in his own half than the opposition half.

    ReplyDelete
  156. If we go to Southampton for any more players i think the premier league,Fifa and Uefa may step in as its a joke now and put a ban on our club signing any more Southampton players for next 2-4 years.

This summer we took 3 of their key players:
Schneiderlin(24) is not a DM, he is a class quality all round box to box midfielder. Who should and would cost any club £20-£27M to sign?

We need a specialist DM who is sole aim is to protect back four, break up play, stop the oppositions best players getting on ball all the time and dictating play and winning ball back for team then starting play.

DM are the best at 1 touch, 2 touch and 3 touch football as they are there to break up play, protect back four, win ball back and get play started again.

    ReplyDelete
  157. What is the relevance of what you have just gone on about?

Tiote is of no use use to Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  158. To Protect back 4 and stop us being exposed between the lines. A DM is not there to create chances, their main aim is to break up play, win ball back and protect back four logan.

The clue is in the title Defensive Midfielder

    ReplyDelete
  159. Tiote cannot dictate. Please convince me otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  160. When was the last time an Italian team got to the final of Champions league After 2007?
Or last in a Europa league Cup Final? AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio and Napoli are all class great quality teams.

But whenever they play against the best teams in Europe who have class, creativity, mobility, pace, speed and youth in their side they become unstuck. ( A Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Man City, PSG and Real Madrid)

And those teams do not let the italian teams dicate the tempo of game and play their matches vs them at record speeds to upset the italians and unsettle them.

    ReplyDelete
  161. why does he rate schneiderlin

    ReplyDelete
  162. if llana doesnt settle maybe we should throw messi into the mix

    ReplyDelete
  163. sandro and tiote are one string players

    ReplyDelete
  164. Two out of the three centre midfielders who play in the middle of park are there to dictate the tempo of game, one player is simply there to break up play, nulify attacks, protect back four and get play started up for team.

DM: Examples: Busquets, Capoue, De Jong, Fernando, Fernandinho, R Garcia, Gustavo, Khedira,Kondogbia, Martinez, Mbia, Mascherano, Matic, Matuidi, M'Vila, Thiago and Tiote type players.

The other is there to get plays started and be the box to box midfielder who can defend/ tackle and attack/score goals.

CM :Examples: Alacantra, Herrera, Kroos, Xavi, Pirlo, Fabregas, Koke, Modric and Rakitic and Yaya Toure type players.

The last midfielder is supposed to be the creative spark and link between midfield and attack and their man aim should be to create and score goals.

AM: Examples: Cazorla,Coutinho, Eriksen, Gotze, Iniesta, Kagawa, Mata, Silva, Isco, Mkhitryan, Oscar and Rodriguez type players.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Sandro can't get into a Tottenham team that we are now leading 12-0 on aggregate on 3 games. I wonder what would make someone think he is good enough for us.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Sandro seen as the better buy as he has went to QPR, he's a bigger improvement for their squad than Can is for Liverpool. Doesn't mean he's a better player

    ReplyDelete
  167. I suspect you've never seen play most of the players you've mentioned, cause if you had...well you wouldn't be mentioning them. Capoue, Kondogbia, Mbia, Tiote serioulsy ?? With respect, I think you've lost the plot mate !

    ReplyDelete
  168. Tiote(28) has mobility, is good at breaking up play, He protects back 4, he is physical, He is strong, he is hard but fair tough tackler and he intimidates oppositions attacking players and puts them off their game.

And he wins ball and gets play started, playing as DM those are the key attributes needed.

And we have 1 specialist DM in whole squad: L Leiva(27) but he does not have the energy, legs, mobility or pace to to cover ground and protect back four well enough.

Like him or not C Tiote(28) i am sure our defense would concede a lot less goals with him in front of them and they would appreciate him in front of them instead of S Gerrard(34) or L Leiva(27).

And also i am sure the likes of Bale, Benzema, Isco, Kroos, Modric, Rodriguez and Ronaldo would have more fear facing C Tiote(28) in front of our back 4 than A 34 year old S Gerrard on his last legs or a non mobile L Leiva(27)

    ReplyDelete
  169. I have seen them play, they are there to break up play. Tiote(28) Of Newcastle, Matic(26) Of Chelsea, Fernando(27) and Fernandinho(29) are the best DM in the premiership by a country mile.

Whenever Man City play Newcastle , they may win but they struggle to dominate in midfield as Tiote(28) gets stuck in and doesn't let Yaya dictate play.

    ReplyDelete
  170. B Rodgers should ship out 2 players for sure in January and bring in £18-£23M on Sales: NO Loan deals allowed / only permanent sales:

    L Leiva(27) DM for £8-£11M
    F Borini(23) FD for £10-£12M

And then B Rodgers should spend £40M

    ReplyDelete
  171. schneiderlin(24) is a class quality CM, he is not a DM.

We have J Allen(24), E Can(21) and J Henderson(24) who are CM Unless one of them three are shipped out in January there is no need for B Rodgers to bring Schneiderlin(24) in.

B Rodgers does need to bring in a mobile specialist DM to club in January though

    ReplyDelete
  172. Can for me... Can could turn into a beast

    ReplyDelete
  173. Why doesn't anyone want Tiote then if he's so good? Not even rumours, links, nothing! And it's not like he would cost a lot? He is 28 and the 'best' club he's played for is Newcastle United. Need I say more?

    ReplyDelete
  174. No, I know a couple of Newcastle friends who'd prefer Sissoko in their side over Tiote

    ReplyDelete
  175. Well Harry was the manager who signed him for Spurs and he has a habit of taking players with him

    ReplyDelete
  176. No one else wants him

    ReplyDelete
  177. But would you take him over Sterling?

    ReplyDelete
  178. But benitez switched to 352 and we scored 3

    ReplyDelete
  179. Nope it was the defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad, had we drew that match we would have been 1st

    ReplyDelete
  180. Gabz, When we signed Coutinho(21) and D Sturridge(24) no one was after them?

How many people were after Lambert(32) Or Can(21)?

C Tiote(28) would be an awesome addition to our squad and is a mobile tough tackling Defensive enforcer. Who would protect the back 4 better than anyone in our squad at the moment

    ReplyDelete
  181. Moussa Sissoko(25) Is a central midfielder, C Tiote(28) is an athletic mobile tough tackling Defensive Enforcer. A player we have needed since 2008, when we sold J Mascherano(30).

.When he was 23/24 at the time.

We have three central midfielders competing with one another: E Can(21) , J Allen(24) and J Henderson(24), M Sissoko(25) is a box to box midfielder like the three above, unless one of them are shipped out in January there is no room for M Sissoko(25)

    ReplyDelete
