Done Deal: LFC sign exciting attacker who wants to be the 'next Luis Figo'

The transfer window may be closed, but that hasn't stopped Brendan Rodgers bringing in the club's 10th new player of the summer.

According to The Mirror today:

"Liverpool have completed the signing of Spain under-17 international Madger Antonio.

The 17-year-old midfielder has joined the Reds from La Liga side Villarreal".

No, I've never heard of him either. Some info about Madger:

* One appearance Villarreal's 'B' team last November ( a 2 minute cameo)

* Since then, only figured for the club's under-18 side.
* Left-footed attacker, who can on the wings, in the centre, or behind the striker.
* Has said that he wants to be the 'next Luis Figo'.

After sealing the deal, Madger tweeted:

“So proud to be part of the @LFC club! Now it's time to keep working hard! Thanks everyone for your messages!”

Good luck, but given the high failure rate of young attacking players at Anfield, the chances of Antonio breaking through in a few years are slim-to-none.

  5. Man U fan for life4:03 am, September 04, 2014

Yes, they have DiMaria for starters---have you watched this fella?Have you? Did you see what he did to Germany today. He's unstoppable..have you seen what he has done to most clubs and countries for years now? I watched him in the U-17 WC in Toronto and knew then they he would be great. I watched him when he played in Portugal and subsequently at Real Madrid where he ruled. He's Argentine which explains why he's so tough. The Argentine League makes the EPL look soft.
He's 26, Blind is 24, Shaw is 19, Mata is 25, Rojo is 24, Wilson and Janusaj are boys that will become world class.....

You poor frightened souls...I know since we landed, Shaw, Rojo, Blind, Herrera, DIMaria and Falcao, you haven't slept well.. All will be back soon as will Carrick---can't wait --just can't wait

  7. You my friend Could NOT know football to make a ridiculous statement like that. Balotelli flatters to deceive..always has, always will.....Before you utter such drivel again just have a look at this Falcaos highlight reel...Better still just have a look at what he did to Chelsea in the Super Cup.....
You must be the only person alive that would suggest that Falcao is overrated

  8. 5th at best...You were lucky against a depleted Southampton who deserved a minimum of a point...Lovren was exposed on the goals and looked weak....Man City cut your backside....Spurs imploded as they do...
Gerrard is OLD and looks it--Mr. Rodgers is afraid to drop him which will cost you...
Lovren is not the answer--you haven't strengthened your middle--you just haven't...Lovren was poor against Spurs--exposed on at least 3 occasions
Your in Europe and mid-week games will hurt you!!! Ask Spurs who looked leggy against you --why, they played in Europe on Thursday night!!!
    No Suarez= 5th place

  9. Man U vs MK Dons....No Rafael, No Smalling, No Jones, No Rojo, No Shaw, No Valencia, No Young, No RVP, No Herrera, No Rooney, No Falcao, No DiMaria, No Blind, No Carrick, No Mata....

This is based on what facts? I'm a physio and i've seen enough athletes recover from similar injuries .. Proper rest and rehab is what's needed.

  25. IMO its pathetic how Mario gets a song on his debut, while Sturridge is yet to get one after everything he's already done for us. I don't have a problem with Mario getting a song straight away, but it should have come after Sturridge.

to be fair when sterling came through everyone knew we had something good especially after the 5 goals vs notts county

we used to watch all his youtube videos and even after daglish spent 100m we wanted him in at 17

this sort of attention has only been given in recent years to pacheco, suso and ibe , although rossiter now looks the great hope mainly because of fowler saying his the new gerrard

why do liverpool sign so many foreign youth players ?

not one of them has made it , maybe suso but he will probably leave soon

of all the teams the only foreign youth players i can think that ahve progressed into the first team
    fabregas-arsenil
    januzaj -manure

the likes of ross barkley would be playing for oldham if he was in our academy because we dont give them a chance and just but spanish players

    canos,chivella , this guy
it has to stop , find the new ross barkleys of the world!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Still your reserve squad should beat a League 1 team.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Canos is a hell of a player and when he arrived he was La Masia's best youth prospect. He will either go on to be the next Torres, or he will like Pocheco.

    ReplyDelete
  31. As a massive fan of Football Manager, I like the idea of buying wonderkids. lo!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree with your point, but the club has to bring in foreign youth as it helps develop the home grown lads technically and you never know you may just get lucky and have the next Fabregas...or Figo in this case!?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I said the exact same thing . I feel like the kop has never really connected with Studge . Maybe there are still questions about his attitude , I don't know what it is but Liverpool fans are usually more proactive .

    ReplyDelete
  34. Surely, there can't be questions about his attitude? If there were questions about his attitude, then why would Balotelli still get a song, and Studge wouldn't? Considering that Mario is a lot more notorious for bad attitude...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yea Di Maria ruled Real Madrid...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, the majority of these kids will never get a chance at Liverpool...but I'd guess you'd much rather ask why all this talent isn't getting a go, than instead asking why we have absolutely no talent in the academy at all...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Its because the name Mario Ballotelli is easier to make a song with than Daniel Sturridge and thats the sad truth.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Falcao's agent has said the fact it is called a loan deal in nonsense and that it is really a permanent deal but this year being called a loan due to a FFP loophole.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Seriously, worry about your own club.

I could pull apart nearly everything you have said and tell you why you are wrong but i don't have time to educate morons.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Falcao is a mercenary for choosing Man Utd over champions league football? wind your neck in! One season out the champions league after more than 15 consecutive years in it???

Conveniently you chose to discount the project at Man Utd. Falcao, would you like to play with RVP, Rooney, Di Maria or Sturridge, a 34 year old Gerrard and Balotelli...

    ReplyDelete
  41. actually a broken leg is, psychological impact is far greater, but don't let that get in the way of your opinion Doctor...

    ReplyDelete
  42. his response was childish but yours isn't? prey tell...

His response was factual, yours was an opinion which you are claiming as a fact

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would rather be playing against Messi Ronaldo Bale Kroos etc than play with your lot he is going to be there 1 season if he plays well he is off to Madrid no doubts there.
If he is no good you will sign the has been.

    ReplyDelete
  44. yet you still trade the barbs...no accounting for your lack of intelligence there...

    ReplyDelete
  45. In my mind I can see some bloke in a United shirt just yelling one long syllable of "HAAAA" for about 15 seconds. Seems about the right level of intelligence for that lot.

    ReplyDelete
  46. What's the project got to do with it? United won't win anything this year, you know that and so does Falcao. Have you forgotten that it's a one year loan deal? He'll be at Madrid next season in a heartbeat. So why would the player go to United for one season while they are still in transition, have no CL football and won't even be playing half-decent football until Christmas when Van Gaal finally gets the team working together?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Its funny all these Man u fans don't have discuss accounts i think you are all the same person dribbling.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Falcao has one of the best goal per games ratio there is. There is no doubt that he is a great goal scorer. I do not see how anybody could argue this.

However, he is 29 years of age, has never played in the CL and has had to have surgery for a torn ACL in his left knee, an injury which some players never fully recover from and an injury which has been proven to leave the a player more susceptible to further knee injuries.

There are so many conflicting reports about the loan deal but it does seem to have cost Utd in total (including wages etc) approx 20mil.

20mil for what is a 1 year loan deal for a 29 yr old who has no CL experience and has had a serious knee injury is insane.

Also he has made it very clear that he wants to play for Madrid. I would not be surprised if his move to Utd has move to do with getting himself in the shop window for a move to Madrid whilst earning himself even more cash.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Also and I know some with disagree with this, the foreign kids have a much better work ethic than the English lads.

I know several youth coaches from lower league teams and they have said a number of times to me that the foreign lads work a hell of a lot harder and are more committed then the English lads. They get in early and stay later. They don't go out drinking or partying.

There view is that a lot of the young foreign lads, especially the ones from South America, Africa and East Europe, have had a very hard childhood compared to what we are used to and they see football as a way out so they do all they can to succeed,

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't think Liverpool have a lower rate of success when it comes to young attackers breaking into the first team than any other big club. If anything I would say you're more likely to breakthrough at Liverpool than at most clubs

    ReplyDelete
  51. At what point in time did anyone ask what injury a footballer can sustain that will have the greatest psychological impact? We're obviously talking about physical injuries. You must be a psychologist tho or surely you wouldn't have the audacity to question my opinion on a medical matter if you're not fully qualified yourself

    ReplyDelete
  52. Take Sturridge over Falcao? Are you mental? Sturridge has had one better than average season. He was useless at the World Cup and couldn't make it into a Chelsea team ahead of the not so mighty Torres...

    ReplyDelete
  53. So you would rather replace a striker that has our highest scoring ratio in over 100 years and is doing the business week in week out, with a player who's had a couple of good seasons in the past but been out for a year and wants desperately to play for another club. Not to mention he'll be on 3 times the wages sturridge is on. Get real

    ReplyDelete
  54. "His response was factual"- Wrong. In reality, he has no idea whether I was involved or not. It was a response based on the balance of probabilities, not fact.

"which you are claiming as a fact"....Jeez! Where did I claim it as a fact? It was a mere matter of opinion. Do I need to add in "IMO" every time I even write a bloody opinion so it can be validated as so?

It was not childish. Most children don't even remotely know how to calculate percentages, yet you say my response was childish.

The only time I've heard people say 'haaaaaaa' to me is when I was younger than 13 years old, or when I was with a very drunk mate.

I just debunked your useless comment. Jaimie Kanwar style.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 'Liverpool-Kop'. I'm really hoping you figured from that that it is a Liverpool site.

    ReplyDelete
  56. ....It can't be that hard. All someone needs to do is sit at home, write a song, and bring it to the pub and game. It doesn't have to be improvised on the spot. It's about as difficult as making a Torres song.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Lallana would be an option IMO

    ReplyDelete
  58. says who... were r going back to the days of one of the greatest manutd pairs (rooney, ronaldo nistelrooy) now (di maria blind falcao)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Actually with Sterling I think it was pretty obvious right away but it's a simple fact that most of these kids end up playing lower league football. We tend to forget that the level of the 2nd division is still much higher than most of us could ever hope to achieve so there is no shame in that. Van Gaal at Ajax said that he would be happy if he could have one and a half player come into the first team every year, on average, and this is an academy that is known for producing talent. So if we accept that one player every year is a good return, it's obvious that most of them will never make it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Because there aren't enough players good enough within 25 miles of Anfield. This is not 1969 and we're not Celtic.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Liverpool certainly graduates more of their youngsters than Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, or Man United. I must say we also have the youngest squad in the Premier League this season, with an average age of 25.6 years.

    ReplyDelete
  62. bad belle......can you get any player for small change... do manutd look like they are buying eyimba boys

    ReplyDelete
  63. Took a 1 year sabatical from the game as it became rather addictive :0P! Considering whether to go back to it...very time consuming.

    ReplyDelete
  64. The good thing is that most of these players will have good careers elsewhere...it may be down the divisions but they will leave a very comfortable life.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Na, the one from Sports Interactive..the best football manager game out there.

    ReplyDelete
  66. It's bad luck on the half player though...:-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I would only trust the average age calculation if it has been run past Twistadee

    ReplyDelete
  68. I don't like the look of Canos at the moment. Many more exciting prospects around in the academy, several of them born within 25 miles of Anfield.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Haven't seen him play at all...what type of player is he?

    ReplyDelete
  70. He's a wide midfielder, quite tall and strong, not the quickest just yet, and perhaps a bit ungainly. Watched him against Man Utd last weekend. He played quite well, but he didn't seem to have the quality or directness you'd look for in a player who you might expect to go up to the next level any time soon. Harry Wilson, Ryan Kent, and Jerome Sinclair looked further along, to me. As I say this was just my impression.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Do you think Chelsea were right to prefer Torres to Sturridge? Don't they look a bit stupid now?

    ReplyDelete
  72. That made no sense whatsoever. Just to clear this up for you... A PAIR is 2 not 3

    ReplyDelete
  73. What are you talking about? So it's just an opinion that you've won more EPL titles but we've won more champions leagues?

    ReplyDelete
  74. No way mignolet. Hendo or Lovren

    ReplyDelete
  75. If you frequent this site you will have seen that at least 50% of Liverpool fans were against the signing of Falcao, basically because of the ridiculous money involved.
When you don't qualify for the champions league again this season, leading to your financial meltdown, come back for a chat with us

    ReplyDelete
  76. The clue was in the name of the website

    ReplyDelete
  77. lol smalling and jones? haha ye i hope they are in the lineup vs liverpool too!

    ReplyDelete
  78. We will qualify for the CL as with Falcao Rooney Januzaj Mata DiMaria Herrera Fletcher Carrick Valencia Blind VanPersie Wilson Lingard Evans DeGea Shaw Rojo Blackett Rafael James Manchester United certainly haves without doubt the best squad in the league. I bet arsenal falls away even do I'd love Liverpool to, I see it being Arsenal

    ReplyDelete
  79. Falcao joined United because they were the only ones who were prepared to pay his enormous wages. He is recovering from injury. The jury is still out on whether or not he will ever recover from it. Early signs, despite a couple of goals, are not encouraging. United are effectively paying for his rehabilitation until he signs for Real next summer. Maybe he'll make a full recovery very quickly, bang in a ton of goals and everything will work out fantastically but the odds are heavily stacked against that. Believe me, Arsenal and Liverpool had every chance to sign Falcao and chose not to pursue it. In fact the player was offered to those clubs before he was offered to United 24 hours later. I'm comfortable we, and Arsenal, made the right decision.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It's clear that elite players are simply not interested in signing for liverpool and why would they, it's a third world footballing backwater. This has been borne out again during the latest transfer window when after being linked with strikers Costa, Cavani and Falcao they settle for booby prize balotell and it's only a matter of time before he's allowed to walk all over the club by Rodgers who has already proven himself to be a weak and ineffectual manager after failing to deal adequately with suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Probably bunked off school with nothing to do ....

    ReplyDelete
  82. Sturridge won't score more than 20 prem goals this season

    ReplyDelete
  83. While you are here, I have a 'by the way for you'- We will be champions this season..

    ReplyDelete
  84. Don't be so deluded to think he only signed for money or to play for LVG.
Everyone in football knows we are the main attraction in English football and up there with Madrid and maybe barca as the biggest clubs in the world!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yes 20 goals is nothing to write home about...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yes he didnt get the best out of Suarez at all did he, that Luis was a complete failure at LFC. Shame on your Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Best squad in the league, really, ha ha. Go take a look at your neighbors or at Chelsea if you want to see the strongest squads.

Fletcher (average) hasnt shown any signs he going to get back to his pre-illness form.
Carrick - Very injury prone and well past his best.
Valencia - Quick and thats it, crosses are very rarely on target, when he tries to beat a man he is so very predictable.
Wilson,Lingard - Young and unproven - Would not get near MC or C squad.
Evans - Poor defender, how he has lasted that long at Man Untied i will never know.
Rojo - Unproven in a big league, bought on back of a good world cup which is always a massive risk.
    Blackett - Average at best.
Rafael - Poor defender, ok going forward but doesnt do enough in this area to compensate for his defending (yes similar to Glen Johnson in that respect).

    ReplyDelete
  88. When you're the only club left who wants you, you're gonna be attractive whoever you are.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Depends on how you define neighbours. If it were for where the club is from, City, if it were for where most of their fans are, then Chelsea.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Balotelli is not the same class as rvp or falcao...maybe more mobile than Rooney but time will tell...

    ReplyDelete
  91. Better than liverpools wasted fortune....dead weight on the bench..

    ReplyDelete
  95. Dum Dum.. LVG came to get United in the CL not win some silly trophy..

    ReplyDelete
  96. Come on mate , admit it, you want Falcao and Di Maria, come on, admit it..
    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  97. I like Fergie and his attempt to buy British, however you can't compete against the City's and Chelsea's of this world withur world class players - Falcao & Di Maria are world class and Rojo, Shaw , Herrera will be...

    ReplyDelete
  98. Falcao, while on international duty for Colombia has revealed that talks about a potential transfer to Man United were on going for months. Arsenal & Liverpool were indeed linked, but only through the unreliable british press. Realistically both Arsenal and Liverpool had no chance to sign Falcao, because neither team have the resources to pay his £350,000 week demand!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Tbh, I'd love to have them in our team. But the team spirit is one of the most important things in football. We have a tremendous team spirit and would not want to harm it, by adding one player who wants to join Real Madrid, and another who wants to join PSG. Everything is positive for liverpool right now. YNWA.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Can't see Falcao or Di Maria joining Liverpool to be honest with you, even if you were the only ones left!
Stay deluded if you like or just except we are a giant that has the ability to attract anyone! :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. How much time do you spend writing these articles? Trying to make a point from nothing. Most likely falcao rebuffed LFC, Balotelli was never first option but an excellent player. Sturridge has a lot to prove and it's becoming apparent he was living off Suarez's brilliance, he has struggled so far! Sturridge is a very good player but even for England when asked to step up he often becomes lost on the game

    ReplyDelete
  102. Mate puis off back to MUFC forums, or is there noting there worth looking at?

    ReplyDelete
  103. We'll see. If he keeps his current scoring record I'll be delighted.
Sturridge is under-rated IMO. Some of his footwork against spurs was out of this world

    ReplyDelete
  104. On paper, you'd have to say Falcao is better than Balotelli. I voted Sturridge as the best striker certainly for our club, based on his stats. I'm sure we've all plenty of United fans as mates who're acting like they've won the league (which further proves a common theory the average United fan knows little about football), but I think we've got a deal that's absolutely right for us. It's not about being bias in the sense of blind love, but tactical on the pitch and in a business sense. Falcao's rumoured to be on £320kp/w?!! Is that right?!!! No thanks. I wouldn't be happy if he was the highest paid player at the club, which would still be £100kp/w less than that. I can see that knee being a problem too, and certainly would be across 4 competitions.

LFC is a mobile team right now, every player puts in a graft all over the pitch - he (Falcao) won't do that. I know he finishes, but there'll be times we need to dig deep. Balotelli looks like he'll fit right in with his preferred flare style of play - if he can pull it off it's encouraged here. No fear. Freedom of expression. I think he'll thrive with the players around him, as long as he's honest in his efforts in both going forward and defending - I believe he will. Balotelli is 24, with so many accolades and experience already - he's been the big player for his club and country....at £16m, with a 50% pay cut based on incentives it's almost already the transfer of the season, "just" need those goals. In Brendan we trust!!
