Confirmed LFC XI vs. 'Boro: Attacker ignored again; Gerrard replaced by exciting youngster

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has made significant changes for tonight's Capital One clash with Middlesbrough, and with Gerrard out for the evening, the club also has a new captain.

FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Manquillo, Sakho, Toure, Enrique, Lucas, Rossiter, Lallana, Markovic, Sterling, Lambert

SUBS: Jones, Skrtel, Moreno, Williams, Suso, Borini, Balotelli

Rickie Lambert captains the team in Gerrard's absence, an honour that caps a memorable few months for the England striker. Probable formation:

--------------- Mignolet

Manquillo --- Toure - Sakho ---- Enrique

---------------- Lucas

--------- Rossiter - Lallana

------- Sterling ----- Markovic

--------------- Lambert

There's also the possibility Rodgers may go with 4231:

--------------- Mignolet

Manquillo --- Toure - Sakho ---- Enrique

------------ Lucas -- Rossiter

Sterling ------- Lallana ----- Markovic

--------------- Lambert

I personally prefer this, as it means Lallana will play in a position more suited to his abilities. Suso still can't get a game, though, which is disappointing.

  1. Its clear that SUSO has no future at our club... I am really disappointed thought he could our Silva

  2. Why is Sterling playing? There is absolutely no need to risk a player of his importance in a game like this. We could have played Suso but this is indeed the final nail in his coffin which will soon be packaged to Milan. Glad to see Rossiter play though..

    ReplyDelete
  3. I am quite happy with that lineup. Sure we will go 4-3-3.

    ReplyDelete
  4. But, why Sterling. He is rested for the Villa game but started for this game. Seems very perplexing.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Exactly my first thought, why Sterling? Seems very contradictory.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I am assuming Rodgers does want to win the match and Sterling is our most dangerous attacking player. If we can finish them off in the first half then the start of the second half Sterling can be subbed.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Knowing us, that is never going to happen. I very much fancy this game going to extra time and even penalties and then he will be burned out for the Derby. This game is not vital like the Everton one as even if we lose, we can still go for the FA Cup so taking a risk does not seem plausible.

    ReplyDelete
  8. They ended the Soto game together last year at home. Will be interesting to see them start a game.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Is Ibe injured? Would have liked to see him in there somewhere, even the bench, and like most I would have liked to see Suso. Still a couple of interesting performances to watch out for, Rossiter/Markovic etc.
For me though Lallana has to improve his game massively tonight. I know he has been injured, but really want to see him step up.

    ReplyDelete
  10. rodgers is taking it seriously..but suso wud ve been a good choice instead of sterling..everton is more important than this one

    ReplyDelete
  11. It is a no win situation for Rodgers. If we lose this match then the daggers will be out again.

Press, Press, press and we will win. That is how we slaughtered teams last season. For this starting eleven i without a doubt would go 4-3-3.

i hope we win his or the fa cup
i have given up on the top 4

this is the only way we can save some face

and rodgers can prove himself as a manger by winning trophies as well

    ReplyDelete
  19. my only concern with these types of line up is a moral one.....say kolo and sako play superb together do they keep there spot...say lambert and rossiter have blinders do they keep there spot

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jordan Williams is a Welshman. 17 years of age (I think). Plays in central midfield

    ReplyDelete
  21. ibe is on loan lets make it a flush

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not at the end of the game old chum.

    ReplyDelete
  23. well he could if he had the talent

    ReplyDelete
  24. Come on liverpool, I have nerves in the belly about this one...

    ReplyDelete
  25. How did Lambert get the armband? its gone cheap tonight. Lucas or toure alllllllll day for me, what a slap in the face.................errrrr good luck lads :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. i got the lottery prediction right apart from 3 numbers

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think (hope) Toure will reign Sakho in tonight, the way Gary Neville Reigned Stam in during his teething period at the scum.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yep, Suso will suffer the same fate as Pacheco

    ReplyDelete
  32. Rossiter you beauty!

    ReplyDelete
  33. 20 yard megs :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rossiter should be playing further up the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  35. rositer 1 - 0 boro

    markovic do something
running around liek a headless chicken is useless

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lallana looking really good.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ayala looking really good. He could have been a player for us

    ReplyDelete
  40. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:04 pm, September 23, 2014

    markovic
    aweful
his match vs villa i senced he would be a bad signing and so far he is looking worse gives it a way every time

    ReplyDelete
  41. Can we afford to rest Sterling?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Give the guy a break.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Give the boy a chance to adjust to a new league/country etc etc

    ReplyDelete
  44. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:06 pm, September 23, 2014

sterling put him in he passes it to ayala
when he gets the ball passes it back to midfielders all the time

  45. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:06 pm, September 23, 2014

    tadic his fellow serb
    dis not need time

    ReplyDelete
  46. Rossiter looks like he has been playing 1st team football for ages.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:07 pm, September 23, 2014

    dont say anything yet
manquillo looked like cafu vs dourtmount
but looke like konchesky vs west ham

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yet against City he looked good

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tadic is 5 years older and quite honestly has not done anything spectacular.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:09 pm, September 23, 2014

    for 5 mins

    ReplyDelete
  51. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:11 pm, September 23, 2014

please serbian lfc fans said markovic is too weak and tadic is better

    ReplyDelete
  52. Playing for saints is totally different to playing for LFC, then there's the age difference! Give him more time, besides being from the same country isn't as important if you consider personality/character etc people are different!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:14 pm, September 23, 2014

it may seem like i am picking on him
but i am not markovic needs to improve
you need to dribble as a 20m winger take on your man get to the byline
worry the defenders not keep coming infield

    ReplyDelete
  54. For Lambert's sake hope we get some crosses in!

    ReplyDelete
  55. He's not playing out wide, Rodgers is playing the same formation Liverpool used to beat Norwich 3-2

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:18 pm, September 23, 2014

also what a ridiculous decision to give lambert the captaincy
lucas 7 years , even mignolet or toure could have done it

lambert on his debaut proves rodgers is losing it

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ibe is on loan.

    ReplyDelete
  58. We have not really threatened Boro's goal. Really do not know why we are playing two holding midfielders. There has been no need for it. I would switch to 4-3-3 with Lallana and Rossiter ahead of Lucas.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Average, very average.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Too many long balls from us

    ReplyDelete
  61. Can you explain the need for two holding midfielders in this match?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:20 pm, September 23, 2014

    markovic finally does something
    applause !

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:21 pm, September 23, 2014

if we did not ahve two tomlin would ahve destroyed us

    ReplyDelete
  64. From my point of view its a 4-3-2-1 with Sterling and Markovic interchanging behind Lambert

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't Logan, baffles me. Marko looks average as well. Why not play Suso from the get go?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Rubbish. explain where and how.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:22 pm, September 23, 2014

whats wrong with two holding mids
you make it seem like a bad thing

    ReplyDelete
  68. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:22 pm, September 23, 2014

marko looks so average its unbelevable

    ReplyDelete
  69. To compensate for the lack of pace?

    ReplyDelete
  70. its down to basic lack of quality in defense and midfield which is panicking rogers into a safety first strategy if we had two decent cb and a commanding goalie coupled with a decent Dm i dare say we would play one....

    ReplyDelete
  71. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:23 pm, September 23, 2014

    what do you mean
alonso and mascherano used to play under rafa
we used to be fantastic attacibly

    ReplyDelete
  72. Boro have troubled us once or twice. If we do not take the game to them then they will find an equaliser.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Boro have not troubled us. We are waiting for them to score.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:25 pm, September 23, 2014

look two holding mids are essential when your defense is that bad but one of them should be able to get by the pitch

    ReplyDelete
  75. ergo lies the problem do we have the players to do that .....no danny no suarez =lazer and lambert and a world of differance

    ReplyDelete
  76. If we had a Fernandinho type DM we wouldn't have to have 2 DMs.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:28 pm, September 23, 2014

markovic ruining every attack with his negative play

    ReplyDelete
  78. thats because we dont have the quality to build from the back kolo just whacks it anywhere and we dont have the right movement up front on in midfield no one runs the channels

    ReplyDelete
  79. I really like Lallana's style! Elegant on the ball and makes things happen.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Does Markovic owe you money?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:29 pm, September 23, 2014

    we have balo

    ReplyDelete
  82. on the bench and settling in...and if im honest he is adapting his play so it will take time for him to get his niche

    ReplyDelete
  83. That is literally an amazing thing to say. He is pure quality.

    ReplyDelete
  84. You are ignorant.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What lies? We would be much better off having two midfielders pushing forward than two sitting back. Boro are waiting for the opportune moment. We could have finished off this game long time ago.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Markovic is only 20 and this is his second game on first eleven.

He need time and support. He has the attributes to succeed but he hasn't used them yet which is a bit odd.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:34 pm, September 23, 2014

he needs to put his head up
" think can i get my team up the pitch "
that is what he should be thinking , but just passes it side wards and back
no way is he worth 20m he looks so weak almost aspas like no way can he ever adapt to the pl

    ReplyDelete
  88. A whole back there were rumours about football players where they really, really shouldn't (too close to home). I can only presume that Suso was one of those.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:35 pm, September 23, 2014

no he is like aspas and aqualani
    way too weak
serbian red fans on TIA warned us about this

    ReplyDelete
  90. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:36 pm, September 23, 2014

    he will join milan
and will be a good player
but we dont need him with sterling, coutinho and lallana all better then him

    ReplyDelete
  91. We are playing with two holding midfielders.

I can guarantee that if we switch to a 1-2 midfield with Lucas holding, Lallana and Rossiter ahead of him we will throttle Boro.

What have they done to trouble us?

    ReplyDelete
  92. What have Boro done to trouble us?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:38 pm, September 23, 2014

tomlin getting in between sakho and toure

    ReplyDelete
  94. lallana is furthest forward and lucas will implode if he shoots..as for rossiter im not sure what his natural game is if hes a defensive midfielder its a big ask for him to play out of style on his debut but he has scored

    ReplyDelete
  95. See you still cannot give a straight answer.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Play out of style? I freaking give up!

    ReplyDelete
  97. well phil thompson says they have so nar nar nar nar nar

    ReplyDelete
  98. Suso is obviously finished at Anfield.
Very surprised to see Sterling in the lineup with the derby at the weekend

    ReplyDelete
  99. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:41 pm, September 23, 2014

sakho has been so clumpy as well
made a pass from enrique a boro break away

    toure doing well though

    ReplyDelete
  100. So was Sterling. So easy to take down. And look at him now.

Just saying. Give him so time. He will deliver.

    ReplyDelete
  101. rossiter is 17 i think give the kid a break

    ReplyDelete
  102. toure has been awful

    ReplyDelete
  103. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:43 pm, September 23, 2014

but what is his role ?
all i see is a guy that gun run fast
with no footballing brain there is a reason why he only got 0 assist last year

    ReplyDelete
  104. Have to play Sterling - REST POOR

    ReplyDelete
  105. Are you arguing with yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:44 pm, September 23, 2014

well compared to sakho he has been decent
he plays like a mad man

    ReplyDelete
  107. goal was a fluke BUt who cares - Laser is real bright spot

    ReplyDelete
  108. good first halfs for lallana rossiter sterling ...jose has looked good also considering hes been out

    ReplyDelete
  109. Nevergonnacrackthecode8:47 pm, September 23, 2014

    are you serious?
are you deliberately trying to wind me up ?

the worst player on the pitch :
loses the ball when no ones there
passes the ball back at every opportunity
plays no part in link up play
always gets shrugged off the ball

his start reminds me of another serb jovanovic all they ahve is pace
but jovanovic was a free markovic is a 20m flop

    ReplyDelete
  110. Sorry, the name for both of you was "Nevergonnacrackthecode" momentarily.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Good God man, you jump the gun so much it's actually comical.

    ReplyDelete
  112. And again. You could say this same thing about Sterling. He looked exactly like player who can run fast and nothing else.

You are way too short sighted in many things. Give some time!

    ReplyDelete
  113. Come on up the pace!!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Bugger all is happening upfront.

    ReplyDelete

I think Brendons given Lambert the armband to give him a boost to kick start his career with us.
Hes got a touch like a f***ing bin man though

    ReplyDelete
  117. Lol lol! Problem is that Lambert needs to play consistently to find his rhythm. The odd 20mins won't help!

    ReplyDelete
  118. What did I tell you. We were waiting for Boro to score.

really getting fed up with our boring football this season.

    ReplyDelete
  119. This team is so poor. Lambert absolutely useless tonight

    ReplyDelete
  120. What did I tell you. We were waiting for Boro to score.

Getting tired of our boring football this season.

    ReplyDelete
  121. as cila black would almost say ......no surprise surprise

    ReplyDelete
  122. I genuinely think it's impossible to build a solid defense with Sakho inside it, no matter who are the other defenders.

    ReplyDelete
  123. We were waiting for Boro to score. Getting tired of our cautious football this season.

    ReplyDelete
  124. So blame Sakho??!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. he used to be a bin man but he got sacked for missing the cart

    ReplyDelete
  126. Sterling is the only player trying to score...a 19yo.

Take Lambert & Marko off, doing absolutely nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:08 pm, September 23, 2014

    he handballs it
    he always does something clumsy
that indirectly leads to a goal

you can blame sakho for gerrard slipping as well he is always in teh thick of it

    ReplyDelete
  128. He gave the ball away needlessly then commited a hand ball, who other's fault is it ?

    ReplyDelete
  129. Change the f****** formation.

    ReplyDelete
  130. POOL 1 BORO 1 - only one winner now and its not us - as predicted - B R might have to GO - cant defend dead ball after spending 75 million on defenders -SHANKS would be disgusted -REALLY NO MORE EXCUSES

    ReplyDelete
  131. Why is Sterling still on the pitch - get him off you idiot

    ReplyDelete
  132. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:10 pm, September 23, 2014

you can cahnge the formation a million times
but the truth is rodgers has wasted 200m
sakho and markovic are 38m down the drain lovren following that path and we have mignolet 8m down the drain
balotelli is opposite of how we play
only lallana, allen, sturridge, coutinho, and moreno look decent

sack the ,manager ancelotti will be available this summer

    ReplyDelete
  133. That ball to hand, he had his hands by his side. It wasn't his fault the ref got that one wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Sterling and lallana looking good, borini and balo in for marko and lambert hopefully soon

    ReplyDelete
  135. i really wanted it to work for lambert like i did carroll but the reality is they dont suit our style

    ReplyDelete
  136. He gave the freaking ball away to start with !!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  137. its extreme but there are elements of truth in there rogers has spent big on whats turning out to be average players

    ReplyDelete
  138. Our biggest problem and it's so obvious

    ReplyDelete
  139. Markovic bottle that shot!

    ReplyDelete
  140. how does the format work is it extra time or a replay

    ReplyDelete
  141. Last thing wee need is sterling playing extra time with the derby on saturday

    ReplyDelete
  142. that answers my question

    ReplyDelete
  143. wow the go brigade have started already. "YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE"? yeah right...........

    ReplyDelete
  144. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:17 pm, September 23, 2014

    forget the derby
    this games is more important
    we need a trophy

    ReplyDelete
  145. Terrifying more like.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:21 pm, September 23, 2014

maybe we should ahve kept roy hodgson in the job in 2011 and be playing championship football and never sacked him because we sign ynwa

it is just a song we will always support the players if tehy ahve problems like brad jones did
but if tehy are bad players they will be ousted out

rodgesr cant justify losing 3 out of 5 games

    ReplyDelete
  147. shocking approach play

    ReplyDelete
  148. Use your left foot Mario!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:37 pm, September 23, 2014

    tell them MK DONS

    ReplyDelete
  150. So poor. No energy, no penetration, no pace! Average!

I know BR will turn in around but man.... poor performance so far.

    ReplyDelete
  151. that still leaves sterling ( our best player ) lallana ( 26m) lazer ( 20m) sako (17m) lambert ( 4m) balo ( 16m )

    ReplyDelete
  152. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:38 pm, September 23, 2014

cant believe suso did not come in for williams

rodgesr is clearly basing his desicions on emotion
    selling agger ,reina etc

    ReplyDelete
  153. Granted... BR cannot pick a center back, in the same way Ferguson couldnt pick a keeper. However I'm hoping like you that this is just a blip in form.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:39 pm, September 23, 2014

lazaer is a flop you heard it hear first has no quality he will leave for 3m

sakho is a flop lambert was uneeded

balo and lallana will come good

    ReplyDelete
  155. Liverpool could not open up a bag of crisps at the minute

    ReplyDelete
  156. I have to be honest I never understood the Markovic sigining. Even his highlights on youtube were lowlights

    ReplyDelete
  157. why the f**k is everyone slipping and falling on their butts ???

    ReplyDelete
  158. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:43 pm, September 23, 2014

    ReplyDelete
  159. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:44 pm, September 23, 2014

    sakho at it agqin

    ReplyDelete
  160. Kolo has been pretty good tonight

    ReplyDelete
  161. Saying that it looks like someone has in the centre circle

    ReplyDelete
  162. For flip sake Markovic SHOOOOTTT!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  163. Shaquiri was our first choice and he's hardworking, strong and skillfull enough. Markovic was 2nd or 3rd choice as far as I could tell. His signing hurt me almost as much as the Andy Carroll deal. BUT I hope he proves me wrong

    ReplyDelete
  164. Average from Marko...Suso should have started.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I'd stick Lallana up front alongside Sturridge and tell him to do a 'Suarez' he's a very elegant footballer in full flow.

    ReplyDelete
  166. if you add it up we have about 100m worth of talent out there

    ReplyDelete
  167. Wish we kept Ibe & saved the Markovic money!

    ReplyDelete
  168. Lallana needs to release the ball after all that fancy work!

    ReplyDelete
  169. It'll come :) he's looked good tonight... he WILL be our new talisman

    ReplyDelete
  170. i hope this dross doesn't run into ray donovan

    ReplyDelete
  171. shudder to think of the derby now.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I dont get it either. Ibe would have turned the flanks to flames.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Nevergonnacrackthecode9:59 pm, September 23, 2014

well everton are just as bad as us
    missing barkley a lot

    ReplyDelete
  174. its the lack of quality tonight thats worried me ...especially in the final third

    ReplyDelete
  175. atleast they will be fresher having gone home earlier tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Nevergonnacrackthecode10:01 pm, September 23, 2014

    we are at home
so they will have to travel : )

    ReplyDelete
  177. SUSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  178. suso 2 - 1 boro

    ReplyDelete
  179. no doubt rogers will say that was his plan with suso

    ReplyDelete
  180. How are you so quick!!

    ReplyDelete
