Game On: LFC favourites over Arsenal to sign €8m rebel who's like 'magic' £50m star. Offer submitted

Liverpool are reportedly in pole-position to sign coveted Moroccan youngster Zakaria Bakkali, who continues to stall on signing a new contract with PSV Eindhoven.

According to Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato:

* Liverpool have put in an official offer to sign Bakkali, who is rated in the €8m range.

* PSV are willing to sell, and despite the interest of a whole host of clubs, including Arsenal, Milan and Juventus, Liverpool are favourites to sign the player.

Some info about Bakkali:

* Youngest Eredivisie player of all-time to score a hat-trick.
* One of the youngest players to feature for the Belgium national team.
* 22 apps for PSV in his debut season in the senior team.
* 4 goals/0 assist in 22 games.
* 90% passing accuracy in the league for PSV.
* 32 dribbles/13 key passes in 22 games.
* 18 goals in 26 apps for various Belgium youth teams.
* Often compared to 'magic' £50m-rated Chelsea star Eden Hazard.

When asked about Bakkali's future this week, PSV technical director Marcel Brands conceded that there's a strong chance that the 18-year old attacker will leave during the current transfer window. He told reporters:

"He [Bakkali] can still extend his contract with us and then if he chooses to increase his efforts for PSV, with his heart and soul, that's fine. If he chooses a transfer, I am also at peace with it."

Bakkali doesn't seem to be too enamoured with defensive duty, though, and this could cause conflict with Brendan Rodgers, who demands a high work rate from all his attacking players.

Indeed, during a recent friendly with South Korean side Gyeongnam FC, interim PSV boss Ernest Faber subbed the youngster after only 16 minutes for cignoring his defensive instructions. After the game, Faber barked:

"Before the match, we made clear agreements about what to do after losing possession, but if he [Bakkali] does not want to perform his defensive duties then there is someone else ready to take his place"

Is Bakkali needed at Anfield Liverpool have dozens of promising young attackers, including Joao Teixeira, who recently made the step-up to the first team, and it will be a shame if the Portuguese youngster's development is stunted as a result of Bakkali coming in.

  1. Sounds like moderate success and interest from decent clubs has gone to the kids head... I remember Sterling had abit of an attitude problem awell when BR rocked up... didn't last long... matbe this kid needs to learn what it really means to be a super privilaged pro footballer, and sort his attitude out before he ends up with no club...

  2. He is quite a talent though.

  3. I think if this guy's as good as they say he is, for 8 million we should snap him up and maybe loan him out or just have him as part of the squad. He and Teixeira aren't the same type of player anyway, this guys more of a speedy winger/forward type

  4. It is possible that Bony will play against Man utd and then sign for Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The kid seems to think he's entitled to guarenteed playing time, hence turning down Ateltico because they couldn't or wouldn't promise loads of game time...

    ReplyDelete
  6. He'd be far from guaranteed a game with us too, maybe one to avoid then so

  7. It is also possible that Suarez will play against Real and then move back to Liverpool in January.

I know a guy. He told me.

  8. If Bakkali is better than Teixeira or any other youngster for that matter then I wouldn't care of Teixeira's development is stunted or if he is shipped out altogether. If he's at a similar level then it's up to Teixeira to outperform him. It's simple really, if Liverpool could sign Khedira and it meant Lucas (even though he's admittedly a nice chap and has been a loyal servant) being shipped out then no problem. Any improvements possible are okay with me.

  9. This guy very much reminds me of Sterling in the sense he has pure potential which could see him developing into one of the best players in Europe. However, he needs and attitude change and has some maturing to do. Either way, from what I have seen of him he is better than Teixera and Ibe at the moment and I would expect him to start in all domestic cup games if he arrives.

  10. Management company Doyen Sports, which owns 75 per cent of the player, has hit back at Sporting's stance and threatened legal action if fees due from any rejected bid are not paid.

It is reported that Doyen is entitled to a payment from Sporting worth 75 per cent of any declined offer for Rojo. In this instance that would equate to £12million.

In a statement, Doyen Sports has stressed it cannot interfere in transfer business and that Sporting have a right to retain the player who has a £24million release clause.

But it has pointed out that in such a scenario the club still have obligations to the company.

The statement read: "Sporting is entirely within its rights not to transfer the player Marcos Rojo, knowing that it only has to make up for the fund under the terms and deadlines as contractually established since the beginning."

It added the company "will not hesitate to use all legal resources at our disposal to defend fully all our interests and rights".

Markovic was another player part owned. If he was not part owned we would have paid much less. Just goes to show how tricky and expensive the transfer business has become.

I think it is therefore pointless trying to estimate what any player is worth nowadays. If you really want the player then you have to be willing to pay the price. Simple.

    bony or eto?

in my opinion there are not any more viable options players like iccardi/lavezzi seem to much of a wild card , while the likes of cavani and falcao would not be interested

arguments for bony rather then eto:

    bony is younger
    he has scored more goals
he is proven and can be trusted if sturridge were to be injured

arguments for eto rather then bony:

he is a free agent a good stop gap till an ideal replacement similar to rodgers initial target sanchez is found and origi comes in

he will not expect to play every game only if sturridge gets injured

I love lfc but i am getting bored without luis suarez , all our players seem like goody too shoes , no player with fire , so no headlines
    we should sign balotelli !

    sorry!

  21. Learn to love another team.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Again with the non-striker connection. All LFC brain cells ought to be focused on getting another proven goal scorer...this week.

  23. Can't have too many class players.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Eto'o is more likely as Origi will be at Liverpool next summer, Eto'o guarantees goals and Liverpool will feed him chances galore........he doesn't need to run channels, just score goals.......a one year deal makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  25. even though sterling had an attitude he still put a shift in

    ReplyDelete
  26. We do not need this guy. We have Ibe as a backup and we also have Harry Wilson coming through the academy. He might be amazing on FIFA but I would say no to him.

    ReplyDelete
  27. i really dont want eto id sooner go with borini ,he will upset the whole dynamic of the squad

    remy has made me scared

    ReplyDelete
  35. Maybe he can't find a pen. Who knows? They're probably still hammering out personal terms with the player. Have patience. It will happen by Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The fact that there are pictures of him makes me confident he is going to sign. There were none for Remy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mate, that is way too harsh. Wilson is very talented and is doing well for the academy. Sterling made his debut because we were woefully short of options at the time. Give hi, a chance.

can't wait for the first game
i really hope the fans can carry on the momentum from end of last season
i though mourinho was a genius in how he managed to make the chelsea v liverpool game less significant by saying he will play reserves i think it took away from the feeling of the fans for the game

  51. This is the Chelsea method of making money. Buy a ton of young tallent. Deleope them and/loan them out and if they don't fit into your plans down the road you sell them for more then your initial investment. If we can swing the money for it there could be great dividends down the road.
