New Plan: BR determined to sign 'incredible' £35m goal-machine in the next 2 weeks

Liverpool continue to be linked with an improbable move for Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly pursuing a loan-deal strategy in an attempt to seal the deal.

According to The Mirror today:

"Rodgers is prepared to wait until the last few hours of the window, and offer a year long loan deal, which would allow Falcao to keep his options open".

The Independent adds:

"Real Madrid may not be able to afford a deal for Falcao and Liverpool would consider a year-long loan deal for the Colombian, who is desperate to leave Ligue 1"

In his press conference on Friday, Rodgers confirmed that the 'money is there' to sign a top-class striker, and insisted that he'll be trying to 'improve at the top end of the field until the very end of the window'. He further added:

“It’s not easy to get a top level striker, but we have to keep looking. We certainly need something, because we haven’t brought in another striker so far, apart from Rickie Lambert"

On top form, £35m-rated Falcao - recently described as 'incredible' by Claudio Ranieri - is a major asset, and his formidable stats over the last 4 years prove this:

* 119 goals/18 assists in 153 appearances.
* Goal every 1.3 games
* Goal/Assist every 1.1 games

Great stats, but Falcao only recently recovered from a cruciate ligament injury, and there's always a possibility that he'll struggle to recapture his pre-injury form. Knee injuries are a killer for footballers, especially strikers who rely on bursts of pace to be effective.

That said, in these circumstances, a loan deal is the perfect solution for the player, and the club. It'll give Falcao a chance to re-establish himself (whilst playing Champions League football), and if he doesn't recapture his form, then Liverpool can choose not to take up any option to buy.

Falcao should see the move to Liverpool as a year-long shop audition. If he plays well, and retains his fitness, he'll become an attractive option for Real Madrid, and can seal his dream move next summer. In the meantime, the Reds have a whole year of breathing space to search for another top-class striker.

Everybody wins.

  1. that incredible they will loan him out.....great move we pay them to get him fit......

  2. Apparently the upfront cost is £10m.. hence why BR is willing to wait it out to get a deal done on transfer deadline day.

A bit of a risky strategy - hope he pulls it off. And maybe put in a bid for Boney if all else fails.

  3. I thought I would have a read as this site is hilarious. Full of dramatic statements and inverted commas. Total horseshit. Actual quotes from Rodgers even suggesting Falcao? Zero. Using the Mirror to strengthen your point? Total fabrication, nonsense.

  4. Why dont we look at Jackson Martinez and get Reus then we will be ready to have it with any team!

  5. That would be a great option to sign those two. Falcao for a season would be good for LFC also. Bony should be considered as a real option. Watched him today and he makes space for others to capitalise on .!

  6. his wages are huge : €1.2M a month after taxes.
with ibrahimovic injuries that leave Cavani out of the transfer market, maybe even lavezzi.

  7. just like Lambert he doesnt seem mobile enough, he lost a lot of physical too and did not look really interested.
i could be wrong but doesnt seem to suit us.

  8. Not necessary convinced about Lavezzi - maybe past his best?

  9. Nice thumping good win tomorrow and that might just help us attract a big name, utd on the other hand might of just put a few players off on joining them. We're the team on the rise and along with city/chelsea and arsenal should make up top four, what order who knows....lets get off to a flyer.

  10. Jackson Martinez just signed a new contract...

  11. They'd be my choice too, just going through my head about team selection tomorrow and when you go through it, we now have great options and depth on bench, just need to add that one top striker/world class player, landing both of these would be amazing.

  12. So did Suarez in December.

  13. If LFC put in a £35 to £40 million bid for Reus that would be enough to bring him in i think.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Spot on i agree with the valuation but they most probably wouldn`t think of doing something out of the ordinary like that, even though he would definitely be a star player for us. Who`s Sanchez when we could so have a Reus.

  15. Bring icradi from inter millan he is good for us untill madrid or barca buy him 90 milion from us

  16. It will cost an absolute fortune to loan him for a season. I read figures like 10-15 million getting banded about. For a loan deal? I'd rather go with Studge, Borini and Lambert and Borini until January and use the time between now and then to try and get a permanent deal for someone.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be excited if we get Falcao but it seems like a huge outlay for a stop gap.
By all accounts Lavezzi's available, that seems to make the most sense to me

  17. It would be the perfect deal for all parties concerned. If we pull this deal off it then becomes a perfect transfer window in my opinion

  18. Chasing class is the right idea but I would not stall on signing Bony because he all help us generate more goals even if he isn't the flashiest or famous guy available. Does anyone know if Borini, Assaidi, Coates and Lucas and Johnson are going to be or have been sold yet?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Monaco are rumoured to be asking for a £12 million loan fee. Add his wages to that then it is fair to say that such a deal ain't going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Buy Bony, maybe he is not the "big name" yet, but we will make him one. This is Liverpool's way...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Um, do you want to make the top 4? How can you be happy with that until January? Sturridge is always injured, and Lambert/Borini are just not going to take us to the next level.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Evra signed a new contract a week before he left..

    ReplyDelete
  23. Watched Bony today...was bad and slow. just an uograded version of Lambert. BTW Depay is flying he is the next sterling

    ReplyDelete
  24. So spending 15 million on a single season stop gap player who's fitness and form are anyone's guess and who doesn't want to play for us?15 mil is a massive amount of money on someone who's simply passing through. I think we have enough goals within our current team to keep us competitive until January when we can add the 15 mil not spent on a few cameo appearances by Falcao and get someone proper in on a permanent deal

    ReplyDelete
  25. Does mean we can't buy him, just means he'll cost a little more

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm not necessarily saying spend 15 million on a stop gap, but I'm just not confident that Sturridge can stay fit enough, and Liverpool's ability to score enough goals from midfield is still yet to be seen. Lambert was absolutely horrible in the pre-season, I just can't trust him.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jackson Martinez not good enough.. Falcao signing can potentailly be like the Van Persie signing that won ManU the league

    ReplyDelete
  28. i would rather save money to buy a star striker later than waste all of it on Bony and then look for another average striker next window

    ReplyDelete
  29. italians usually flop in EPL

    ReplyDelete
  30. He is not Italian, he is Argentine but I do not think he is the right fit for us.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So 15m for a season loan...second game in he suffers a long term injury and is out for most of the season, what happens then ? 15 m down the drain and still no striker. At least buying Bony if that were to happenhe would still be there on return to fitness.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This deal will probably be a good deal in Footballing terms but financially or is not only teams with money like real Madrid or so can afford to take such risks

    ReplyDelete
  33. WHERE did I say that Falcao for 15m loan is a good idea? Please learn to read properly. I never said, 'let's go and get Falcao'. In fact, I implied, 'Let's go and buy another striker instead of relying on Sturridge to stay fit'. If you bothered to read my comment below, you wouldn't have wasted your time.

    ReplyDelete
  34. F that. You either want to play for Liverpool FC or you don't. If these South American players all think they're too good for us and only Real and Barcelona suit them, let them sort it out with them. I'd much rather sign another Lallana who wants to come than a Falcao who doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So while we are on the subject of strikers, yes stats are not the be all and end all but yesterday there was some discussion regarding Bony. I stick to my opinion that Bony is not going to offer us more than what Lambert will and spending big money on Bony IMO will be a huge mistake. I have not once suggested that Bony is not a bad player but he is not what we need when we already have Lambert.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bring "MAX KRUSE" from Borussia Monchengladbach BR ASAP

    ReplyDelete
  37. Once again, you ignore the most important stats for strikers: goals and assists. None of the stats you've presented matter in comparison to those. A striker's job is to score and create goals; Bony got 33 goals/assists last season. You still have no credible reasoning to keep comparing Lambert and Bony. You just continue to slate Bony because you've made such a big deal of it now that you can't go back.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Where have I slated him?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have not continued to denigrate Bony's abilities. I have done nothing of the sort. Please point out where I have done so.

Bony IMO will be a plan B. We already have Lambert as a plan B. That is the way I see it and I really cannot see Rodgers spending 5 times or more what we paid for Lambert to sit Bony on the bench.

Bony IMO is not what we need and definitely not at £20m plus.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Repeatedly saying that Bony, a 25 year old international striker (with a history of scoring shedloads of goals) is no better than a 32 year old who spent much of his career in the lower leagues *is* denigrating his abilities.
The Bony/Lambert comparison is just nonsense.

  41. I did not once say Lambert was better than Bony or Bony better than Lambert. Not once.

The Lambert/Bony comparison is not nonsense. Both are centre forwards.

  42. It is difficult to focus when you're playing with your ukelele

  43. No, it wouldn't. Don't you think if Reus was available he'd be sold by now? How many teams do you think have enquired after him? Dortmund don't want to sell and there is no indication he wants to leave. It's not a supermarket.

    ReplyDelete
  44. He's an option and I wouldn't have a problem with him coming here. He'd work hard because frankly his career is on the line. He's at the age where he needs to be establishing himself as a genuine world class striker so there's no problem with motivation.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Agree on Martinez. Reus too but I really don't think he will move this summer unless some club with more money than sense make a ridiculous deadline day offer much higher than his buyout clause

    ReplyDelete
  46. Depay is much more versatile than Sterling

    ReplyDelete
  47. George's head was definitely over the rainbow

    ReplyDelete
  48. Evra was always going to leave regardless.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Shows there's intent to keep him. In the case of someone like Evra it's purely for money while Porto do actually want to keep Martinez

  53. I don't want to hear that liverpool is thinking to buy Bony, is really wasting of money and hope

    ReplyDelete
  54. Don't get me wrong, I share your concerns. Just think we've got to be smart with our money and this proposed Falcao deal definitely isnt

    ReplyDelete
  55. i hope we try to sign chicharito. Only 26 years old. 10mil pounds. i feel he can compliment the team quite well. clever player around the box. i think it beats signing Falcao on a loan for 10mil. because after the loan he will go back to monaco or sign for real madrid because of the type of wages he is looking for. if chicharito doesnt do well, he can be sold to cut the losses. i wont bet on that. he has experience in the league and will be hungry to prove to the rest of the world he is a top notch striker. doesnt this ring a bell in the form of a Daniel Sturridge currently playing for Liverpool?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bony will provide nothing more than Lambert? 33 goals and assists tell JK and I otherwise.
