Done Deal 13: LFC seal deal with Kuyt's old club for 'excellent' winger. £15m star next?

Hot on the heels of Jack Robinson's Anfield exit, Liverpool have today jettisoned yet another LFC youngster as Brendan Rodgers prunes his squad ahead of the transfer deadline.

According to the official LFC website:

"Liverpool youngster Kristoffer Peterson has today completed a permanent transfer to Dutch side FC Utrecht.

"The Swede departs the club three-and-a-half years after arriving from Savedalens IF in January 2011".

Like Suso - who is currently being ignored by Rodgers - Peterson scored two goals during pre-season, which prompted the manager to single him out for specific praise:

"Kristoffer Peterson has been excellent. He will come with us to America and that's the reward for him for his two performances over the course of the pre-season games."

Having a good pre-season clearly did nothing for Peterson's prospects of staying at LFC, though. Granted, there's massive competition for attacking places at Anfield right now, but the Swede is just the latest in a long-line of youngsters to (inevitably) end up on the Liverpool scrap-heap.

Coates and Suso also did well in pre-season, but they're seemingly on the way out, too, which begs the question: Where's the incentive for young players if their efforts are basically ignored?

Peterson is the 13th player to leave Liverpool during the current transfer window (sales and loans):

* Jakub Sokolik
* Adam Morgan
* Luis Suarez
* Conor Coady
* Pepe Reina
* Martin Kelly
* Andre Wisdom
* Brad Smith
* Joao Teixeira
* Luis Alberto
* Iago Aspas
* Jack Robinson
* Kristoffer Peterson

It will also come as no surprise to see Suso, Coates, Lucas, and £15m-rated Daniel Agger leave the club before the transfer deadline.

  2. Sell Lucas, Allen and buy a decent CDM.

  9. Jack Robinson is still at the club.

  10. Good young player but I knew he wouldn't cut the mustard. If Ibe doesn't make it through then I'll loose all faith. Suso really deserves a chance he has started his LFC career very promisingly and kept the faith in playing for LFC let's hope he gets rewarded for being bold and refusing to just sit on the bench.

  11. Yes I was going to ask where he went...

  12. I think we should send suso on for another year, and sell coates and lucas. Then we should buy CDM(song, carvalho or pogba(still dreaming!)). Our defence still appears to be leaky. Our preferable formation for this season should be-
    ...........................................Mignolet...............................
    Manquillo/Flanagan.....Lovren......Skrtel.............Moreno
    ...........................Henderson..........Gerrard.....................
    Sturridge..........................Coutinho.....................Sterling
    .........................................Balotelli..................................
    Bench-Jones, Sakho, Enrique, Can/Allen, Markovic, Lallana, Lambert.
    We have one of the best squads, but they just need some time to gel together. Btw, Markovic has mesmerising dribbling skills.

  13. Rooney's face is injury enough for all.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think his 'reward' was getting TV play to up his price for the transfer window. How much did we get for him? Would we have got that much for him if he didn't score two goals in pre-season?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Remember preseason is also a shop window.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a buy back option on him as part of the deal like Can had with BM.

    I surely would like to know where this perfect football club is where any young player who plays one game goes on to play 500 for that same club.

    WHY BRING IT UP AGAIN ???

    ReplyDelete
  30. Agreed I'm beginning to wonder where this Excellent youth team is Guardiola spoke so highly off. Peterson was excellent in pre season and has been rewarded with a big F.U. Liverpool FC strike again.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nuke Lucas, Allen, Coates, Johnson and Agger and sign Vidal & Blind!!! why do we always have to buys kids and let the big names go elsewhere. The Man City game showed we were good but not yet together. That said, even when chemistry starts to fully click, we have nowhere near the depth of solid talent that Chelsea and Manc City have and yet this year we have the funds to rectify the issue to a significant degree. I know blogging is so much easier than real world deal making, but does Ian Ayre really have that cache and credibility we need to persuade the best to take us seriously??? Why not have BR and Carra make the final 'sales' calls with Ayre as the contract scribe only??????? Midfield ball winning skills and central defense still a huge issue even with the addition of Lovren. If we shoot the guys above we will have openings at backline to get real quality.

  32. If lfc sell suso then Rodgers is mad

    ReplyDelete
  33. True, i was calling for him to be giving a better crack a while ago but as it stands he is just too far behind the players in front of him.
    Sell him to a spanish team and hopefully good for all.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The question to be asked is, would Kristoffer Peterson be better than our current strikers? IMO no, so shifting on players who wont make it is good for all.
    I agree with some comments above stating that Ibe is most likely the only player that looks a chance at cracking the team in the future.
    Its astounding the value of these young players, Sterling was an exciting young player but not exactly a consistently good player before last season and after half a good season his value was reported in the 20m's.
    Yet a player like Suso who was wanted by RM i'd be suprised if we can get anything besides a loan deal with a few mil attached at the end for.
    Also am i the only one who sees us loaning out borini and going through this all again next season?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes Borini is hanging to get back to Italy to a big club meaning no sale for us the 14 mill i think we can kiss goodbye.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Most of them are loans its about time to sell sell sell.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Seems like anyone with pace gets into the team and you're perceived to be worth more. Silva and Nasri didn't run past us the other night, they played through us. Ibe is probably preferred to Suso just because of his pace. If Sterling lacked pace, he would be no where near the team. IMO Suso is a valuable player to us, he offers something different and is clearly good enough to be in and around the first team, not shunned and watching from the stands.

    I agree with Jaimie, there is evidently no incentive for young players to perform if only certain individuals are rewarded. And, it seems that is determined before anyone kicks a ball.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow two games in and one the toughest of the season to win and poor Dannies copping it crikey that's harsh.
    I think our failure to defend well is the underlying problem but our defense needs time to bed in Lovren and Moreno looked good but did make mistakes this happens when your unfamiliar sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Agger should stop airing his problems to the press, and get his agent to sort him out a transfer. I personally rate him quite highly, and will be sad to see him go. This isn't to say that he should stay, Rodgers has definitely told him that he is down the pecking order. Lovren is a direct replacement for Agger in my opinion. The thing is, It looks like it's gonna be on bad terms, and Agger has been a top servant to the club. Still think he'd walk into arsenal united and city's starting 11 (before Mangala).

    Sturridge isn't in bad form, it's a dry spell of one game (so far), sensationalist tosh.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We dominated at Emirates last season.....

    Neville, assisted by Carra, expertly demonstrated that the real problem at the back was the space between centre halfs.

    Defence needs time.

    I wasn't too upset by outcome. We created as many, if not more, threatening positions....

    - Henderson twice in the left channel, picked wrong option
    - Markovic / Moreno one-two, Moreno chose to cut back instead of squaring
    - Markovic squared to Sturridge, just couldn't get it in his stride
    - Lambert header that lead to goal
    - Lambert golden chance on 83 minutes that he mysteriously elected to square

    Individual errors cost us again, but hopefully defence comes right.

    Markovic looked exciting

    Why was Coutinho wide left? Sky demonstrated that 51% of attacks came down that side. City obviously identified Coiutinho, Allen and debutant Moreno as the weaker side.....

    Moreno did make one excellent covering interception in the right full position that prevented an attempt on goal

  41. At Etihad last season

  42. Ibe is younger than Suso mate thus i think it would be a little fool hardy to dismiss him before he has had more time to develop.

    ReplyDelete
  43. They do have a more experienced first 11 and at home that counts for a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think we should get some product integration happening and do a poll on the best subway® sandwich.

  45. You spelled "me ma" wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I completely agree, I understand at big clubs its very hard for youth to make it to the first team but it seems like we completely miss the mark on the handling of these kids more often than other teams.
    I love the fact sterling is in the 1st team and flanagan is in the mix, But how suso didnt get a go when he played a bunch of games then resigned with us only to be benched is beyond me as the dude is quality.
    We seem to be shipping out young players for little to no return at all while temas like barca and madrid and cashing in on guys who dont make it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. He's said a few odd things but without proper context and really knowing what he's on about I don't think there is too much to read into it. He's obviously unhappy but at the same time he said quite bluntly that he doesn't go around whinging to the manager that he's not playing, he doesn't complain and that he accepts this as a reality of football. Maybe he doesn't get enough of a straight answer from Rodgers and at the end of the day that's just how these things often happen. The manager doesn't have time to sit down with every player in the squad who isn't player and explain in detail his selection policy. Benitez wasn't even approachable on the subject according to some players. I don't think there is much too it, he's simply not happy with the situation and despite what he says I think it ultimately does come down to playing time and not being selected. Maybe he's deflecting from that by hinting that something else is bothering him.

    What seals it for Agger is simply that he's leaning on the side of leaving if he doesn't get to play. He's not shy about that, he's simply not interested in being a 3rd or 4th choice. That's fair enough but it doesn't really belong at Liverpool and that's the point at which the club and player should simply agree to part ways. At his stage of career he needs to extract every possible minute, play whenever he is fit, take advantage of the times that his ailing body is capable of supporting him in the top flight. He's not going to get that in the current squad. He's not happy staying and Rodgers has no plans to use him. It just seems sensible to let him go rather than extend the suffering any longer.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think that's a bit unfair. Yes, it came off the defender, but it was a great ball in, met well by Lambert and it was his pressure and presence that meant it deflected back into the goal. We can say it's lucky but bad luck is not usually accepted as an excuse when the striker misses. Liverpool players created the situation for the goal and it just happened to go in off a City player. It's a Liverpool goal and no less than what we deserved from the game.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Damned shame about Petersen who is gone and Suso who is being ignored. Meanwhile we need a big boy, ball winning and controlling midfielder and another center back. we know Coates, Toure and maybe Agger can be sold along with Borini and Johnson to fund these two buys: D. Blind and Arturo Vidal.........

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hopefully Suso's day will. Come.......

    ReplyDelete
  51. Shame really...

    ReplyDelete
  52. I hope they nuke them outside Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Maybe we send them in Manchester near Old trafford and nuke them there.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I presume Agger is still happy with the fat pay check he picks up every week for doing very little. No criticism of the club on the that score I bet.
    Agger's time is up at the club, he's too injury prone and we need him off the the wage bill. I might sound harsh, but that's the reality.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't mind if we give Johnson away for free

    ReplyDelete
  56. We need leaders in defense and midfield generals... Agger was one of my favorite players for years but no one is bigger than the club. You stand by your team and put in 100percent to achieve its goals. One of the reasons Lucas wasn't shipped out despite numerous injuries was his attitude and commitment to the cause.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Several assists though:-)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Unfortunately this will only get worse as FFP kicks in.

    The onus for clubs is now to sign as many young players as you can for a minimal fee, hoping that 1 or 2 make the grade and the rest you can sell on for a profit.

    It will take a strong young lad to turn down the advances of a big club offering amazing money to learn his trade in the lower leagues and prove himself.

    When a club like Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City etc come knocking on the door of a 16 year old lad offering hundreds if not thousands of pounds per week can you blame them for saying no?

    ReplyDelete
  59. So, the UCL draw is on today.

    From the perspective of wanting to see Liverpool progress through the UCL, the best case scenario is:
    Porto
    Basel
    Liverpool
    Razgard

    Worst case scenario IMO is:
    Real Madrid
    PSG
    Liverpool
    Roma.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I totally agree with you brother. Just lack of cutting edge. I hope in the future when not late we we would not would not say our coach is not is not top notch enough for a rejuvenated liverpool or that Goalkeeper mingolet were the real issues because some of us can see ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  61. B Rodgers needs to ship out all the names you mentioned above:

    Apart from J Allen(24) as he must be B Rodgers Lovechild or something as he will never take him off when he is offering us nothing in a game and he will be at club for many years due to B Rodgers undying love for him:

    But B Rodgers should must bring in two DM: To replace Lucas(27)

    C Tiote(28) Of Newcastle for £5-£7M and J Martinez(26) Bayern Munich for £17-£23M These two players would break up play and protect the back four. And against the best teams away, these two would nulify attacks and help our defence keep clean sheets. Whilst give our full backs and our attackers the license to damage.

    As the likes of Gerrard(34), Allen(24), Henderson(24) offer the defence little or no protection at all.

    And lastly B Rodgers should bring in either Pedro(26) Of Barcelona Or M Reus(25) Of B Dortmund for £23-30M a world class creative mobile pacey quick Goal scoring winger.

  63. if im honest id sooner be in the latter group ....for me thats what its all about watching your team play the real madrids of the world...plus we always seem to do better against the better teams in europe and slip against the lesser teams

  64. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/27/bayern-munich-8m-deal-real-madrid-xabi-alonso

    Why arent we in for Xabi. He would be superb for us. I refuse to believe he is spent or wrong for the system. It would be superb seeing this guy there again to orchestrate proceedings.

    Is there any way to land him. Even with our current crop, he would teach these young guns so much, and to be honest him and gerry may need to share that role if we play a lot of games.

    ReplyDelete
  65. hes had a few chances but to oust a player like sterling you have to play at 100%

    ReplyDelete
  66. Which other teams are you referring to? Not many players come from the academys of the big clubs in the premier league anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cant agree, face the big boys in the later rounds is much more preferable. The club get 750k just for winning a group stage match so a possible 4.5m up for grabs plus 2.8million for getting our of the group and into the last 16.

    Also we then also improve our co-effcient which means we can move up a to a higher seeded pot in future.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Bring back Xabi. We sorted then. he helps with a number of midfield combos and formations.

    ReplyDelete
  69. please sign xabi

    ReplyDelete
  70. Nice thought, but I think we need someone with a bit more pace in there.

    ReplyDelete
  71. J Martinez is good but I can't see Bayern Munich (114) letting him go :-)

    ReplyDelete
  72. we do better against stronger teams

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh,and he just happens to be long term injured..
    Check Tiote. Oh dear

    ReplyDelete
  74. Been saying that for a while.
    Too late now, he's gone to Bayern for £8m.
    £8m!! what the hell were LFC doing missing that? If he chose Munich over us, then it would have been disappointing but understandable since he has always stated his affinity to us
    But to not even try? Criminal.

    ReplyDelete
  75. If we progress past the group stage chances are we'll meet the big boys anyway...in a bigger match

    ReplyDelete
  76. Correction: Adam Morgan actually left on a permanent deal to Yeovil in January. He has now been loaned out to St Johnstone.

    ReplyDelete

  79. His lack of pace is what is holding him back in this team I think. Shame tho cod he's a good wee player

    ReplyDelete
  80. The reality is, if 5% of young players break into and cement a regular place in the first team at a club the size of Liverpool then you're doing really well

    ReplyDelete
  81. At least he makes up for his looks with his brains...

    ReplyDelete
  82. theres no guarantee you will go through in a group of lesser teams i live in the here and now and say lets play the good teams here and now

    ReplyDelete
  83. wee already have the welsh xabi

    ReplyDelete
  84. Once he did have all the letters but in a different order

    ReplyDelete
  85. I am sure you will want to be the first to congratulate him on succeeding Stevie as England Captain

    ReplyDelete
  86. There are far more youngsters breaking through nowadays than what there were in the past. There has also been major personnel changes in our academy. Those youngsters who break through into the first team will not always make the grade and are moved on. This happens at every club.

    For the likes of Suso it is going to be extremely difficult to get a sniff with Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana, Markovic and Ibe all ahead of him in the pecking order. It would be better for him to make something of his career elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The risk of getting knocked out by lesser teams is worth taking. There's also no guarantee we'll play better against the big teams. You're going off a trend that was made by a completely different Liverpool team, and club.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'm starting to get this feeling that Liverpool will come 3rd and Arsenal will come 4th.

    ReplyDelete
  89. who exactly is Suso going to replace in the team?

    ReplyDelete
  90. so using that logic Coutinho would be nowhere near the team if he lacked dribbling skills and Lovren wouldn't be in the team if he lacked tackling skills?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I would rather an increased chance of getting though the group stage than not.

    You say your living in the here and now but then talk about us being good against the bigger teams which is very much from the past and with a different set of players, manager etc.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well said, I feel just the same.

    ReplyDelete
  93. That's what I predict as well. Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spuds, Everton, all else, United. The last bit is just wishful thinking

    ReplyDelete
  94. So does anyone know how much we got for Peterrson?

    ReplyDelete
  95. X Alonso(32) is a pass master, like S Gerrard(34) but both do not have the Energy, legs, mobility, pace or the tough tackling skills to protect our back four.

    We need a player in the Mascherano(30) and Momo Sissoko(30) mould.

    B Rodgers should spend £32M on these two DM and then whilst shipping out L Leiva(27)

    1: J Martinez(26) Of Bayern Munich for £18-£24m

    2: E Capoue(26) Of Tottenham Or C Tiote(28) Of Newcastle for £5-£8M

    Now we have been drawn against Real Madrid in the Champions league, it will be these two players we will need away from at the Bernabeau who will keep the likes of Isco, Modric, Kroos, Rodriguez, Bale , Ronaldo and Benzema quiet.

    As S Gerrard and L Leiva do not have the energy, legs, mobility, pace or speed to keep with any of them let alone protect the back 4.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Theycallmemrburt7:37 pm, August 28, 2014

    Agger stopped bringing the ball out from the back and scoring goals a LOOOOOOONNNNNGGG time ago .. time to go because his defending alone is not up to scratch.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Theycallmemrburt7:41 pm, August 28, 2014

    Sturridge needs Lallana. Until Lallana returns or Markovic comes in Sturridge will struggle because in the prem Countiho in an advanced midfield/ wing role is ineffective to say the least (his role is one of three central midfielders ala Modric) whereas Sterling is just so overated (up front or nowhere for me.) We have no flair in the last third and sturridge needs genuine flair to compliment his skill and speed.

    ReplyDelete
  98. He doesn't want to stay with you. He wants to keep his income until a better opportunity for European cup football comes. He knows full well that the pecking order is being extended day after day because Rogers doesn't rate him. If he genuinely wanted to work and show case his ability he would join a team who can offer him games week in week out playing the same opposition he would meet with you in the premiership assuming that you actually played him. It didn't have to be us but he was rated highly by the fans and Poyet is a good manager. I wouldn't take him on loan nor buy him now because in recent seasons we have learned that money is not a good companion with loyalty and some players are totally motivated by money. Shearer played for our arch rivals but you had to admire his loyalty to the club

    ReplyDelete
  99. Criticizing Sturridge is hilarious.

    He's scored a goal and gotten an assist in two games.

    How about we wonder why Aguero was able to casually run by Lovren on his way to scoring his goal after coming on as a substitute.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Despite more than 8 years with the Reds, it is difficult to remember any stand-out performance from Agger. Don't get me wrong, he was a solid defender at times but he never reached a level of consistency and distinction that suggested that Barcelona's supposed interest was anything other than an agent's attempt to talk his client up. A return to hometown club, Brondby, while undoubtedly welcome from a personal point of view must be terribly disappointing from a professional perspective. I would suggest that his comments stem from frustration at a perceived lack of opportunity at a Liverpool rather than a personal attack on BR and his man-management. Jamie is descending into red-top hyperbole when he describes it as a 'tirade' but I suppose that is just to spur a debate.
