£28m star to Anfield? Agent reveals the truth about LFC's 'offer' for 'lethal' goalscorer

The clock is ticking! Liverpool are desperate to sign a new striker before the transfer deadline, and the latest name on the list is ex-Manchester United star Giuseppe Rossi. Is there any truth to this particular rumour, though?

According to various sources today:

* Liverpool have made an enquiry about Rossi, who currently players for Serie A side Fiorentina.

* Rossi has a whopping £28m release clause in his contract.

* LFC have put in a €25m offer for the striker, recently described as a 'lethal player' by Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella.

Earlier today, Rossi's agent, Andrea Pastorello, quickly move to shut down the rumour. He told Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato:

“There is nothing between Rossi and Liverpool. Honestly, I don’t know anything about this. I’m not aware of any offer. This is something that has come from England and nowhere else.”

In my view, it makes no sense whatsoever to pursue Rossi:

* Why make a €25m bid for an injury-ravaged striker, yet constantly stall on signing Premier League-proven, injury-free Wilfried bony for for a lower fee £19m?

* Since 2011, Rossi has suffered TWO cruciate ligament injuries, spending a total of 674 days on the sidelines, and missing 60 games in the process. Signing any player with that history is a monumental risk, and it's (arguably) madness to even consider a big-money transfer.

* I know this is an oft-advanced point, but it's true: players from Serie A rarely play well for Liverpool, or indeed other Premier League clubs.

I just hope Pastorello is telling the truth when he suggests that it's all paper talk. Rossi is good player, but there's no way (IMO) he is a better option than Bony.

i think we will buy bony on deadline day that is my opinion.

    Pulis has left crystal palace
can he be our defensive coach?

    ReplyDelete
  5. That is mental. Also, I had money on them getting a point off Arsenal!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow, thats a shock, he took them from relegation to a comfortable mid-table, the fans will run riot, and it leaves Arsenal with a walkover in their first match.

a really poor season for udinesse
    plus struggling with weight issues

  10. Wow. £28 million for a player who will hardly ever play. But £8 for a proven PL goal scorer Loic Remy was called off (supposedly) because of his injury/heart problem. Can't see this deal happening.

  11. BONY BONY I just hate mentioning him i know he is good player but he is not type of player we need and also we dont need to buy from mid table players as a suarez replacement you can see lambert is not doing well so why buy another target,,,,,,,,,,,, thats when i hate liverpool ,,,,,,, transfer committee must sacked imo

    no chance , just speculation

    ReplyDelete
  13. Just get lavezzi or cavani as suarez replacement for only 20m and 35m respectively

    ReplyDelete
  14. Another option which hasn't really been explored is Jackson Martinez. With a £32m release clause, he'd be regarded as a top tier signing and would be a statement of intent.

    not as easy as that
bony wants 100k a week , rodgers prefers 433 .if bony cannot play every week it is a waste of money having him and it will be very hard in the future to get off the wage (look at torres)

his 100k demand will make him the third highest paid player at lfc (gerrard and johnno), and with liverpool currently trying to negotiate new contracts for sturridge, sterling, coutinho, henderson and flanagan ,i think it could be the wrong move.

lavezzi is 29 now and is not a proven goalscorer no way is he worth 20m and he apparently wants 250k a week

cavani was bought for 55m a season ago i doubt he has lost 20m of his price tag and he wants 300k a week , plus he does not respect rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  17. You are wright lavezzi will suit us more and he deserves 100k proven world class player also can play as winger or striker

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nevergonnacrackthecode11:10 pm, August 14, 2014

i doubt lavezzi earns 100k at psg , even if he does with the tax system there we will have to pay more then that

    ReplyDelete
  19. Everyone keeps going on about Bony 'wanting £100k a week', but where is the proof for that?

    ReplyDelete
  20. i wonder if rodgers thinks that if he goes for an expensive (high profile) player
and that player doesnt perform , his job could be on the line..
on that basis going for cheaper options with lesser expectations and if they dont do that well it will be put down to that it was all we could get etc etc ... just my opinion ...

was it the echo i can't remember
    or ben smith

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nevergonnacrackthecode11:12 pm, August 14, 2014

see i would say he is too one dimensional
but apparently rodgers was also interested in karim benzema,so it could happen

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rodgers just spent £20m on Markovic, which is a much bigger risk than Bony, who is Premier League proven.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nevergonnacrackthecode11:15 pm, August 14, 2014

but unlike bony rodgers knows markovic suits the system he loves operating in which requires fast and skillful players

    ReplyDelete
  25. To be fair to Rossi, unlike most Italians, he got his footballing education in this country and then went on to thrive in Spain so I think he could be a success but I agree, with his injury record he's just too big a gamble

    ReplyDelete
  26. That makes sense if the claims of his wage demands are true

    ReplyDelete
  27. He is direct, I'll give you that, but has a killer instinct... Apparently Wenger was sniffing around too so if there is any truth in the rumours, I guess it'll probably come down to wages offered.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rodgers is the one who is allegedly pushing to sign Bony, so I imagine he knows how he plans to utilise him. All the arguments used to discredit Bony as a potential LFC signing have very little merit IMO. It's just the same old unbacked reasoning repeated ad infinitum.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would agree Bony looks the best option to me also with him being a proven prem striker, but if not Bony i would like to see Benteke given the go ahead, he had a lot of niggling injurys last season so i don`t think he was at his best, but now he`s fit and rearing to go i would take him any day above Eto,o or Cavani even.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rossi is a talented player, but With his injury record and the high price for his signature simply means that we should keep as far away from him as possible. in any season to come, besides that's a lot of money for him. If we didn't sign Loic Remy such a low price... Then I don't understand the logic of signing Rossi. Bony looks lot attractive at £19 mn. Why didn't we try for José Salomón Rondón? He is far better to have in the team than the options we are currently considering.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm beginning to think we will not sign another forward now and that Sterling will be used in the striker role when Sturridge injured thus enabling Markovic/Lallana to come in. Its not worth signing a forward for the sake of it, plus once season kicks off and deadline approaches, clubs will play hardball knowing we have got cash to spend. Honestly think we have missed out/been snubbed on our top targets, here's hoping we pull one out of the bag. Personally I would of taken a punt on Ballotelli and as has already been mentioned, Martinez would not be a bad option.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lavezzi is not a striker, and has a poor goalscoring record, + we have players for his position, how many midfielders do we need.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If Bony comes to LFC and scores 20 goals, he'll soon be the type of player we need! Remember he was the shining light in a okish Swansea team & regressing Ivory Coast team!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agree we have Sterling, Coutinho and Markovic at the ready... i'm wondering where Lallana will fit in..fair bit of rotation in those attacking midfield positions this season.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 20m plus astronomical wages no doubt. He did move to Zenit when he could have joined major teams in Europe afterall.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Just a thought, what must Martin Kelly be thinking right now, first day, and the Man that wanted him is gone.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If I were BR I would be pushing Bony too.

    ReplyDelete
  38. As many as we have now, soooo...no Lavezzi please

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah feel real sorry for the lad saying specifically how he was looking forward to playing under Pullis, odds on favorites to go down for me, Strange thing is that I'd have thought a few more pl clubs would have taken a punt on him.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Come on dont remind us

    ReplyDelete
  41. Borini is sh-it and he knows it, I was jumping around when I heard he had gone to Sunderland and then the bad news came in, Hes staying. Then he fakes and injury so once again he can sit on the bench and claim his wages!

I blame Rogers for buying him, 7 moves in 18 months come on it tells you something!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Whys dosent Rogers just make a jump for a good sticker put his money where his mouth is and sign someone instead of looking for the next Borini!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Apparently that Suarez moe is more than a possibility, it has become almost certain. Apparently he is frustrated that his teammates won't let him bite them when playing FIFA (the closest Luis gets to training). Barca are, I understand from my reliable source, willing to sell for around 10 million. In the words of Jaimie K 'Worth a bid?'

    ReplyDelete
  44. I must be the only fan, with a still almost new Aqua shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So they both have about the same amount as Skrtel, :-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Whoa...just saw on the BBC gossip page that LFC are jumping Raheem from 30K per week to 120K per week just to hold off Real Madrid pressure. Maybe that's a reason LFC are balking at buying somebody like Bony.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with you completely... But they are names that keep getting bandied about as a marquee signing as a Suarez replacement. It's the same with

Shaquiri... not an out an out striker either.

    Jackson Martinez for me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't know about £10m. Is he twice as good as Lambert?

Would be a decent replacement for Borini though.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sign Lavezzi!! Hes a solid 1 to 2 year filler until Origi is ready, Sterling can play main striker if Sturridge gets hurt

    ReplyDelete
  50. You can't move more than twice in a season. Your statement is ridiculous

    ReplyDelete
  51. Historically successful LFC strikers have been young relatively unproven strikers. Going for anyone age 25 plus is not the way BR should be going. Also we ahould not be signing anyone reus falcoa or otherwise who is injured. About time LFC learns from past mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. A big yes on Jackson Martinez!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jk,

Completely agree with this post. Why the fu$k we haven't signed Bony by now escapes me. BTW, where is / are the BIG names BR said he would sign? Bony is proven. That would give us 4 strikers if you count Borini and three without him. If we get another big boy striker along with Bony and nuke Borini, Coates, Lucas, Johnson,. Loan out Ilori, Robinson and let the games begin......

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ok I will say something quite controversial now but rest assured it is in no way intended to be racist. Dutch football, for the past two decades, has been filled with young Morroccan super talents who at the end of the day never made it either through injury or a poor poor attitude. It started with Tarik Oulida at Ajax who Cruyff himself called a bigger talent than Van Basten. We've seen Affelay, Assaidi, Amrabat and now Bakali (and there are quite a few more) thinking they are superstars way before their time and drop off the map two years later. The same will happen with this kid. Too much, too soon and the wrong people in his ear. We should really stay well clear of this kid because it will be 8 million wasted. We might as well give Assaida a chance then.

    ReplyDelete
  55. JK totally agree with you on Rossi but would be more likely to say its Italians that seem to fail not only at Liverpool but the EPL.
To me there is plenty of other talent in Serie A which would light up the EPL i would take the likes of Vidal Cuadrado or Icardi any day.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Suarez's replacement? everyone's saying we need a replacement for suarez...but honestly apart from Messi and C.Ronaldo, do you know someone who can replace him?can't see cavani doing it...just trust our manager...he knows what he's doing...YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  57. I heard rumors that the Bony deal is done and what's holding that back are personal terms. We'll see if Bony plays tomorrow against Man U.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Bony would be a great player for us. I looked at all his goals in the last 2 years - the guy is lethal with both feet and is far removed from the target man that many consider him to be. If Rodgers wants him, I can't understand why the delay in signing him unless it really is his wage demands. I'd be surprised if he wanted 100k but I could believe that we have offered him 50 guaranteed on an incentive laden contract or so as he's probably on 40 at Swansea.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Bony is BR best goal scoring option for now

    ReplyDelete
  60. I prefer Borini to Hulk. I think he has regressed as a player since his Porto days. Too much time in the gym and not enough time working on his actual technique.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Where d'ya hear that?

    ReplyDelete
  62. He`s a bit green for the prem, but on a serious note his wage demands would be too high me thinks.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sterling----Sturridge
    -------Coutinho----
    --Lallana---Henderson
    --------Gerrard

    ReplyDelete
  64. so reus to atletico is a done deal? gutted as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yep I agree I said something similar in a different post, that his contract should be full of incentives giving him the potential to earn 100k. He's underrated but very effective. Ask Skrtel or Agger if they'd like to play with or against Bony? He had our back 4 shaking like jelly in that 4-3 game. If we get him I'd be pleased!

    ReplyDelete
  66. You need to replace when a big star leaves you i dont think lambert or borini can score 30 goals between them,,, you will remember my words the day we miss suarez unless there is a world class replacement

    ReplyDelete
  67. spend the money who cares if we spent 100m if he is right player... we got 75m for suarez we must buy 1 world class player

    ReplyDelete
  68. lol i think you want to see us playing old fashioned football... like andy carrol days

    ReplyDelete
  69. Jaime did you think he can fit rodgers system of flexible players and can he play sometimes st left or right wing

    ReplyDelete
  70. I don't disagree with the fact that we should buy him but if you are saying he's not just a target man then I think you should watch those videos again. Every goal he scored last season (bar 2) were from roughly the same area around the penalty spot. He really doesn't look to have great movement and NEVER scores goals from difficult angles. Only 2 cam from (just) outside the box

    ReplyDelete
  71. Your spot on, well said.

    ReplyDelete
  72. It is not a done deal yet but supposedly A Madrid and B Dortmund of agreed fee of £21.6M but are now talking about how it will be paid.

B Rodgers and I Ayre need to hijack this deal as soon as possible, put in a £23M bid and get him signed and sealed.

And then B Rodgers should bring in L Adriano(27) Of S Donesk or C Benteke(23) Of A Villa for £12-£18M as W Bony(25) is being too greedy and should not get £100,000 a week at all. Half that if he is lucky.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Nobody ever talks about Doumbia anymore, but he has been the top striker in Russia for several years and his contract at Moscow expires in 2015. Much better player than Rossi, younger and cheaper too.

    ReplyDelete
  74. He is not been the same player that he was 3 years ago, he is not worth 28 mil, why can we not get Reus? He is cheaper (20 mil release clause) and he is a better player or splash the cash on Cavani, who is definately a better player than Rossi.
