I Blame You: 'Frustrated' £15m star blasts BR for killing his Anfield career. Fair?

Daniel Agger continues to dig his own grave at Anfield, and after recently complaining about being left out of the team, he's now mounted a veiled attack on Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

In October 2013, Agger told Danish TV:

"If the manager doesn't think I am good enough, that could make me leave Liverpool. If I don't play, I don't want to be here anymore."

Then, in July 2014, Agger moaned:

"It's no secret that I had problems last season and I am considering things. How things turned out last season is not acceptable for me"

Agger continued his public tirade this week, with this thinly-veiled crticism of Rodgers' man-management of his situation. In an interview with Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, Agger admitted his transfer future is 'up to Liverpool', and revealed his ongoing unhappiness with the situation:

"The future is complicated. I've had niggling injuries at the wrong times and it is difficult to change the team when it is winning. I am not frustrated by that. I am frustrated the way it happened and the way it was handled."

Both Mark Lawrenson and Jamie Carragher have argued recently that Rodgers is 'not a fan' of Agger, it's clear that the boss is gradually phasing him out.

To be fair, though, it's hard to blame Rodgers for marginalising Agger. As last season proved yet again, he is consistently error-prone, and his positional sense leaves a lot to be desired.

This, combined with his continued injury problems, means that Agger is not reliable, and it's impossible to build a consistent central-defensive partnership with an unreliable defender.

In any event, Agger's increasingly brazen public comments suggest that he's resigned to leaving Anfield. Only a player with one eye on the exit door would criticise the manager's man-management skills in public.

Dead man walking?

On a separate note: A regular poster requested the following poll, so here it is:

feedback surveys

In my view, criticism of Sturridge is absolutely ridiculous. His creative return for LFC is absolutely outstanding, and he already has 2 goals/assists in 2 games this season. Still, some fans seen intent on attacking Sturridge, even when there are obviously other areas of the team more deserving of criticism.

  1. He never criticised the manager you instigator.

  2. He mentioned how it was handled. Jaimie highlighted it. Not a direct criticism but it's fair to infer it.

  3. Jamie, stop instigating. He only mentioned how his injury was handled. He never mentioned the manager. The handling could be the Doctors, advisors or possibly physicians. you should know better Jamie. Stop causing friction when not needed. Your opinions are very sought after so try and be Liberal. Cheers.

  4. Agger once looked like our best CB but not for a while. Injuries will catch up on you and he looks slower these days. Add to that the positional thing that Jaimie mentions and it is a worry. I am not sure what Agger wanted from the situation or how it was handled. Non of us do but truth is he cannot be depended upon due to injury and even uninjured he has not been that dependable either.

  5. Also I have no idea why Sturridge's form would even be included here. He has had ups and downs in the games recently but he has been getting very little support.

  6. One of the site's regular posters asked me to do this poll.

  7. Criticism or not... Agger is not suitable for us anymore, Sadly. we all love Agger, and he is a wonderful footballer, but injuries combined with below par performances just does not bode well. If you're good enough, you are old enough; if you are not playing and & not performing, sadly it's time for out the door-ing... hope that rhyme was not too boring...

Sorry Agger, YNWA, but someone like Illori and co should get the chance, and he will never get in ahead of a guy like Sakho.

I'd be more inclined for him to stay if Toure left...

But also, ok last point: I really want to see Hendo get the Vice captaincy

  8. Jamie's model is to instigate and conflate the issues. It works for him due to the number of hits he gets. It's either for you or not. Having said that, why have two options to Liverpool's problems are either Sturridge's form OR midfield/defence? It's obvious just about everyone (besides the odd outlier) going to choose the latter.

  9. I understand Greg but no one likes made up stories. How certain is Jamie to think the word 'handled' refers to Brendan?
quote 'I am frustrated the way it happened and the way it was handled'.
It could be a thin attack but there are million reasons it was not an attack on Brendan. The physicians and Doctors play a key role with rehabilitation players and their opinions are very much important to managers. Brendan would not play a player if there could be a relapse. Lets not blame because we all know how the media play with words. Lets be clear on that so we dont cause issues. Remember asumptions has caused many issues in our lifetimes.
On that note lets wish Agger well.

  10. On that account Jaimie, can I submit a request for a poll on whether the second or third away kit is better? :)

He did score the winner in game 1 and basically assisted their only goal in game 2. He hasn't had much to work with I agree.

  12. There is nothing wrong with Sturridge's form. He has scored in our first match and he made the pass which lead to our goal vs City.

Our defence is still the biggest issue. At least Sakho cannot be blamed for any of it :-)

  13. He's a trouble starter, punking instigator, yeeaaahh.

  14. I do not think defence is the issue. It is lapses of concentration and panic attacks which are the two main issues. For the first 40 mins, our defence was impregnable and just one error lead to our downfall. Once the defence gets used to each other, I think defence would not be an issue. Our lack of cutting edge is a main issue on the attacking side however.

can you do a pol on who people prefer

    morgan schniderlin or alex song?

  16. The Saints catastrophe was because of the midfield with Lucas and Gerrard not providing protection to the midfield. IMO, we have to play the diamond formation against Spurs
    Migno
    Manqui-Lovren-Skrtel-Moreno/Flanno
    Gerrard
    Hendo-Coutinho/Markovic
    Sterling
    Sturridge-Balo

Even 4-4-2 would not be a bad idea with Sterling and Lazar on the flanks.

    .....................................balotelli....................sturridge
    ......................................................sterling
    .............................lallana...............................henderson
    ...................................................gerrard
    ..........................can............sakho..............lovren......manquillo
    ...........................................................mignolet

if moreno or enrique fit they should play even skrtel

    for spurs

    ReplyDelete
  18. That is a formidable team and the one we should pursue but not sure Adam will be fully fit for the Spurs match so Coutinho or Markovic for him. Coutinho always seems to do better when his place is under threat.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like Daniel Agger, but the amount of times I seen him get bullied by a strikers is ridiculous. If Agger was still in school, they would have to phone Balotelli up to comfort him and confront the bullies on his behalf.

To all those people saying Sakho should be the one to go?? He's never been bullied out of a game and his passing stats are good. Sakho has also made the least individual errors out of our back four. Because he runs like he has hemorrhiods people feel uneasy. Doesn't he warrant another chance like Skrtel.

The amount of goals we conceded from corners because of Agger.....(sigh).
He should just play 5-a-side from now on, that way he won't lose headers at set pieces.

i dont understand thsi if tehy are right to come on 30 mins to teh end why not from teh start

  24. Compared to Skrtel Agger is a more more more reliable centre back (Source OPTA SATS), but yet again the manager still persists to put his trust in an average & poor player like martin skrtel.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This will not happen against other team? We conceded 51 goals last season and still we look lost at the back. There are no excuses I am afraid. Our defence has to improve.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have faith it will but the team selection has to be right. We have to pursue with the Lovren-Skrtel partnership and play Sakho in the cup games to keep him fit if we need him or is someone is in dire form. But, I think Lovren can guide us.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Both of them make to many individual errors...

But at least Skrtel amended them by having a goal return in the other box. He has made us having corners a realistic chance of scoring a goal.

    ReplyDelete
  28. more specifically, our mids were absent the second half; even Henderson looked unsure of his field position and a bit gassed...Allen and Stevie could mark my mom after the first 30 minutes..............

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am not convinced with the Skrtel-Lovren partnership. Still early days but the lack of communication so far is sticking out like a sore thumb. Our problems will continue...

    ReplyDelete
  30. are you Morgan Schniderlin's agent?

I know he wants to leave, are you drumming up interest? (have I cracked the code)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Tell him to bog off next time. Nah I don't think he has been at his best but he did look much better when Lambert came on. Was this also more creativity and attack when Coutinho going off.

I thought Can was an odd sub.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm in the Schnederlin camp. Have been for quite some time. Alas that won't happen. Not this window anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We didn't score though did we? Own goal innit.

    ReplyDelete
  34. They had four shots.

    ReplyDelete
  35. More complex than that mate. Lovren was too far over for the first goal. Too far away from his side. Gerard doesn't track his runner. Other goals as well, more to it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. maybe but i would like to see allen given a run in Gerrards spot just to see how he goes because he has energy and is pretty disciplined tactically which the role requires

    ReplyDelete
  37. Are you schniderlin s agent by any chance ?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I feel like they have opposite desires as defenders. Lovren wants to meet the ball and Skrtel wants to drop and soak up the pressure. They need to keep a better line but I am not sure Skrtel is going to change. If he doesn't then Lovren has to stop meeting the ball and I am afraid we will be in the same situation as before.

  49. Sturridge is our most prolific scorer in 100 years and he's picked up where he left off. He's the least of our worries

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'll be the first to say this but I never wanted Sturridge and I wanted Walcott at the time however after 3 games Sturridge changed my mind and Sturridge should be the only player exempt from criticism over the last 2.5 seasons, 36 goals in 51 games for any striker is phenomenal considering Ronaldo and Messi has strike rates between 0.9-1.1 goals per game what Sturridge has done for us is amazing

    ReplyDelete
  51. Can anybody tell me what is the status of 3 injured players vs City?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Haha I hate when that happens...

    ReplyDelete
  53. Only thing wrong has been Coutinho..he has been woeful. He has created absolutely 0 chances in his 160 min of play in 2 games which is just shockingggg. I say we put him in centre for the game against Spurs and if he fails, he is definitely out of starting 11. Lets hope Lallana starts his lfc career with a bang

    ReplyDelete
  54. except 2 none were clear cut chances...we are used to play without a RB and in the first two games we have played without an AM too.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I know what you're saying, I don't think our defenders are bad players (Johnson excluded) but the lapses of concentration and individual errors are costing us goals almost every week so something has to be done. Hopefully our new fullbacks and Lovren will gel in the coming weeks

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sadly I have yet to be given the power to decide such things.

It is of course only a matter of time but at the moment all I can do is ask the question.
