On the Brink: 'Perfect' £11m star flies in to sign for LFC. Unveiling on Thursday. Medical tomorrow

Last week, Sky Sports Italy claimed that France striker Loic Remy is set to sign a 5-year deal with Liverpool, and reports today suggest the deal will be wrapped up in the next couple of days.

According to Sky Sports UK this evening:

* Remy has arrived in the US to undergo a medical, which will take place tomorrow (Wednesday)

* He was due to have a medical today (Tuesday), but it got bumped to Wednesday.

* Liverpool hope to announce the deal on Thursday.

LFC legend Mark Lawrenson is a big fan of Remy, and he's twice urged Brendan Rodgers to sign him. Lawro's latest public plea came in May, when he told the Liverpool Echo:

"Personally, I would take him [Remy] all day long. He would provide a perfect option because he is such a good player"

Remy has an £8m buyout clause in his contract, but it's now claimed that the fee could rise to £11m, which is still a massive bargain for an international, Premier League-proven striker.

Remy's Premier League stats for last season in comparison to Daniel Sturridge:

* LR: 14 goals/3 assists in 25 apps
* DS: 21 goals/7 assists in 29 apps

Passing Accuracy: DS: 79% | LR: 80%
Duels Won: DS: 38% | LR: 39%
Aerial Duels Won: DS: 19% | LR: 40%
Recoveries: DS: 66 | LR: 86
Tackles Won: DS: 60% | LR: 80%

Minutes Per Goal: DS: 108 | LR: 150
Goals/assists: DS: 1 every 1.0 games | LR: 1 every 1.4 games
Chances Created: DS: 29 | LR: 30
Shooting Accuracy: DS: 49% | LR: 49%
Crossing Accuracy: DS: 4% | LR: 24%

STATS: Opta

The above stats show why £11m is such a bargain for Remy.

* Defensively, Remy is more effective than Sturridge, and that is something that will appeal to Rodgers. With the loss of Suarez's prodigious hassling of players, this will be a timely boost for Liverpool.

* The striker also exceeded Sturridge in several other areas, too (including chance creation/passing accuracy), and achieved this whilst playing fewer games, which is very promising.

I'm not suggesting that Remy is the better player - Sturridge's overall goals/assists record is clearly better, but Remy is in the prime of his career, and if he's given the game time, there's no reason why he can't score 20+ goals for Liverpool next season.

  1. Sky Sports reports (as do many others) £8.5 million buy out met. can't see the boss paying over that for what i think is a brilliant signing : )

  2. I'm happy with this deal, £8m for a proven international in his prime is a great investment. It makes a change that we're on the right end in one of these deals. If BR can get the Lovren deal done and sort out the left back problem I'll be more than happy with this window.

JK always exaggerates the transfer value

  4. Sky Sports are also the ones who claimed the fee may reach £11m (as per the link in the article)

  5. Remy`s stats are very encouraging looks like we might have hit gold with this signing, REM Y ARCABLE.

  6. If Rodgers persists with 41212 then Coutinho behind Remy and Sturridge could scare any defence

  7. L'Eqipe report he has passed medical and signed 5 year deal

  8. Sorry Jaimie I don't mean to be a bell end I really don't but when discussing % playing less games may be a benefit rather than a a detriment. Just worth thinking about when making those assertions.

I was surprised by the crossing accuracy as there were times last season when Sturridge's cross field passing was superb. There were not lots of them but I don't remember him getting so many wrong that he would only have a success rate of 4%. Mad.

Anyway I have been saying this is a good move even if I would have preferred Bony. For the money this is the better deal for sure.

  9. Will we see both of them up front together? I'm interested to see our line up for the first game of the season and what Rodgers' plan is for the season in terms of attacking combinations. I still feel like there is another attacking player to be signed but all the names mentioned are just rumours.

  10. Yes our medicals takes ages. Won't be confirmed until Thursday probably.5 years seems a lot too.

  11. Yeah I was wondering how we'll line up. I was wondering where Coutinho fits into the team now with the Lallana signing, will they play together? We do have lots of options going into the new season which is great considering the amount of games we'll be playing. I personally wouldn't buy anymore attacking players, I would rather BR spend whatever money we have left on sorting our leaky defence out.

  12. a bargain either way you look at it! Remy is a proven goalscorer with pace and eagerness to work for the team and I am in no doubt he will do the business.

  13. Against higher lines like Everton and Arsenal Brendan will probably go 41212 with Remy Sterling and Sturridge but with lower lines we may see Lambert Markovik and Lallana a bit more

  14. Why a medical in the USA? Is he going to join LFC on the US tour?

  15. oh my god jamie! a positive review??! you need to lay off the skittles! ;) (oh and I completely agree with your prognosis)...remy is naturally right footed, and sturridge left footed..which will give us good balance...he is also versatile and will happily play on the wing giving us options with formation..i believe the fee rising to 11 mill is based on appearances\winning silverware..a great buy whichever way you look at it ..now I wouldn't mind if we steal Vidal from under the noses of the Mancs..one can only dream

  16. Everything about this deal makes sense. The player, the price it's an all round good bit of business

  17. Just read that Hummels & Reus are not for sales by Juve so count them out, even though we have never be credibly linked to either...........

  18. Judging from the transfers so far, LFC is gunning for a century of goals again in league. What about our porous defense? Are we going to stick to Jose Enrique at LB and move Flanno to the right, replacing GJ? We desperately need reinforcements in both LB and RB. If Dejan Lovren is going to cost us 16 mil pounds as reported, then it makes more sense to me considering a PSG-benched Sakho 'the shaky' cost us 18 mil pounds. We need new partnerships for Skrtel and a healthy Agger. Sakho should start from the bench, behind the 2 old guards of LFC and the maybe incoming DL in pecking order.

  19. Valbuena...really? Why?

  20. Would you change your mind on that if Marco Reus was a reality? I would. But sadly it will just be a load of media tosh. I would love to see him in a Liverpool shirt, worthy of the number 7.

But yes, we need defensive players. Early days though.

  21. Five years is fairly standard these days. You get three years out of them before considering whether to sell with two left on the contact. Stops the player from running it down to nothing. The flip side is you can be stuck with someone for five years. But Remy would be a great buy and an investment, is probably worth around 20m now to be fair. Bargain.

Managers always say that. Everybody has a price(not saying we will get Reus).

  23. It's called PR talk. If he's leaving this Summer he's going to Liverpool. If it's next Summer he's going to Bayern

  24. Liverpool booking a medical room in the US reminds me of the Sopranos using a medical room to discuss business

  25. I always wonder about the stats. What if you have only a small chance of getting a cross in so you play the ball off the defender for a corner does that count as a failed cross or a corner won, or both?

The answer is who knows and who cares?

  26. It'll be interesting what shirt number Remy gets. If he gets number 7 it is likely that no other big name attacker will come in. If he is given a different shirt number then let's all start dreaming again ......

  27. To be honest I haven't seen Reus enough to get excited by him, I've seen his stats which are impressive and I know he's highly rated but that's about it. Going back to Coutinho, I think he's now one of our best players and needs to be played central to get the best out of him. He needs to work on his end product but if we play him in his best position I think we can turn him into world class just like we did with Suarez.

  28. Maybe my point isn't 2 constructive but I just want a statement of intent type player .. some1 which says we r not only building for future with the best young talent but the best senior talent and not over rated English players.. if we actually beat a rival team to a top signing
Like arsenal did with ozil last year and I read that Sanchez said that he can't wait to play with a player like him as he was joining.. top players attract other top players in my opinion

Just remember there are lies, damned lies and ,,,,,statistics

  31. Statistics don't lie they are just a part of the beautiful truth. Like and ample bosom alone they can be fun but they are not the whole picture.

  32. Coutinho reminds me of when we got Suarez a lot. He was also quite wasteful in front of goal to begin with. Not as much as Coutinho but did waste a lot of chances in his first few months at Liverpool only scoring 4 goals in 13 games. Going forward has never been our problem though it's defending. Seriously need a centre back and left back and after that I'd say we have a decent team for the rest of the season.

  33. I don't get it, why does LFC take such a long time dragging transfers!?,
I believe this transfer news started long before the madrid james
rodrigues move, chelsea luis move, bojan stoke move. etc Whats wrong
    with LFC
