I'm Leaving: £9m LFC 'flop' confirms he'll quit Anfield at the 'end of the season'

It's fair to say that Chelsea-loanee Victor Moses has struggled to make any real impact at Liverpool this season, and it comes as absolutely no surprise to learn that the Nigerian is leaving Anfield at the end of the season.

When asked about his future today, Moses - who cost Chelsea €11m in 2012, told Sky Sports:

"I'm a Chelsea player. I came to Liverpool to do a professional job for them but I'm going back to Chelsea at the end of the season to try and fight for my spot"

One ex-player who'll be delighted is John Aldridge, who is clearly not a fan of the attacker. In a recent column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldo labelled moses a 'flop', and accused him of looking 'disinterested' on the field. He scathed:

"He [Moses] has let himself down. There's no desire, no spirit, and he doesn’t look like he’s in the right frame of mind. He has failed to stake any type of claim [and] it might be in everyone’s best interests if the loan is cancelled"

In a recent poll, I asked fans if they agree with Aldo's assessment:

* 12200 visitors (approx) voted.
* 85% of participants agree that Moses is a flop.

Sending him back to Chelsea is absolutely the right decision. As Moses makes clear in his comment, he's a Chelsea player, and that's what's in his heart. He has no vested/emotional interest in Liverpool, and consequently, there's no burning desire to bust a gut for the club, which shows on the pitch.

There's a reason why Moses is the perennial squad player at most of the clubs he plays for: he's only good enough to be a squad player! He is not the type of player who is going to take Liverpool - or any elite club - to the next level, so it's no loss whatsoever.

The major loss here (IMO) is losing Suso for a year. The Spaniard could've stayed at Anfield and taken Moses' place in the squad, but LFC farmed him out on loan instead. Having Suso instead of Moses would've improved the squad, and the Spaniard would now have another year's experience of English football.

I just don't see the logic in sending Suso away, bringing in Moses, and spending £7m on Luis Alberto. Aaaagh - it doesn't make any sense!

Brendan Rodgers has a horrible record with loan-players, but after Sahin, Moses, and Cissokho, he'll surely get it right next time...?

  1. Keep him away from having any influence on Sunday. A bit of a dangerous mole. Reckon we should should gag him and lock him away in the boot room to be honest.

  2. Suso is getting 90 mins every week on loan, he has improved because of that, he would have just been an off the bench player at Anfield this season, I think Rodgers got it right.
Moses was a final day loan, when we bought no one, he wont be missed.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Moses was actually decent in his 10 minute cameo against Norwich, but he's not LFC quality, just provided backup to the team.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think the simple logic behind the departure of Suso is that he is probably further along in his development having played for Almeria (and not played, which may also teach him something) than he would be if he'd stayed.

I think it only looks a bad decision because the Aspas and Moses deals have failed so.

  5. Or maybe I have just developed an unhealthy fixation on Sunday and anything that could stand in our way. Is anyone else getting pre-match nerves already?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Thank you thank you thank you.

Exactly what I was thinking. Couldn't have said it better myself.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Suso is not getting 90 mins every week. He's been subbed off/come on as a sub in 13 of the last 19 games. He also hasn't scored a goal in 20 games, so I don't see how that's an 'improvement'.

Moses has made 21 appearances for LFC this season, and I believe that Suso would've developed more playing in the Premier League than in Spain. Plus, if he'd impressed in Moses's place, he probably would've got more game time under Rodgers.

  8. He has the demeanor of Berbatov, it was never going to work with our pressing game anyway.
Although I'm curious as to why he would get a chance ahead of Alberto.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Because he's not a Berbatov, he a direct physical player. He's just not that talented a footballer, I want to see 5 at the back this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  10. And who would suso have taken the place of, Coutinho, Sterling, I dont think so. Or as I said an off the bench player, coming off the bench when a better player has tired, ?, Is Suso any better than Texeira, it would be a close call IMO.

  11. 5 are you joking, you will see 8, and they will be wearing Blue.

    ReplyDelete
  12. My prayers have been answered.I'll give anyone a chance, but not a guffawing half hearted waste of money and space this guy has been.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hang the fucker!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Never said he was a Bervatov, I said he had the demeanor of Bervatov, meaning he's not a player who would be willing to press the ball and defend, cover areas etc.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i remember saying this is and YOU! JAMIE KANWAR said luis alberto was more clinical in front of goal than suso , AAAaarrgh!! i will never forget that. so be quiet and lets all suffer lol

    ReplyDelete
  16. A bit racist, don't ya think?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I would say Suso>Texeria because of the loan. And to kinda add to what you are saying, if Suso stayed he would have gotten very, very, very little time. Whatever development he made this year is still something, however little. If he stayed he would have essentially wasted a year sitting around doing nothing, losing that year of potential experience as a first team-er somewhere else.

  18. Who, Moses? he's ineligible any way...

    ReplyDelete
  19. The only team that Moses has looked half decent with, was Wigan.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think that Rodgers, is feeling very disappointed about Moses, because he thought that he found in him a better player to replace Downing. Moses made me give some credit to Stewart Downing! At least he was trying, Moses doesn't give a fuck about anything! He must leave right now...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Suso over Moses would definitely have improved the squad. I think the attitude shown by Moses this year may cause him problems when Chelsea inevitably move try to move him on in the summer

    ReplyDelete
  22. And palace as a youngster. Been rank for us

    ReplyDelete
  23. If he could Mourinho would join himself as the 12th man. And he'd just stand on the goal line

    ReplyDelete
  24. I disagree. Didn't make an impact. Looked a bit lost. And there was a sequence where Suarez had the ball and was waiting for Moses to make a run forward. Never happened. Moses hasn't been given a consistent amount of playing time but when he has played he's looked aloof.

    ReplyDelete
  25. When we signed Moses after a less than stellar summer acquisition process, I was optimistic. He looked good at Wigan and Chelsea and thought a little extra strength might make me feel less bad that we whiffed on Lukaku and Benteke. He has been a huge disappointment but I am sure he is disappointed too with the lack of playing time. He didn't add much to the offense and with Sterling's great development he was destined for the end of the bench. I guess the situation and chemistry just didn't click. I wish him well but remain greatly disappointed. Give me Texeira and Ibe next year. They will add something that Moses and Assgas hasn't.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Considering where we are in the league right now, Liverpool don't seem to have lost out with Suso having been on loan. It then comes down to whether you believe he would have developed more on our bench, or at Almeria. I'd agree with you that getting game time with a La Liga struggler would have done him alot more good than sitting on our bench, and hopefully we will reap the rewards of this longer term thinking by BR next season.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Now that we have CL next season there will be no need to make any loan deals as we will have a much better chance at signing our targets. Winning the EPL will make us even more stronger in the transfer market so loan deals like Cissokho and Moses will be a thing of the past next season.

    ReplyDelete
  28. How is that racist...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Certainly agree that Suso would have been a better option then Moses. He is technically superior and has naturally ability on the ball, similar to phil10. I definitely disagree with your opinion that he has not improved much . One wonders if you actually watched him play or if you just went to your stas book as usual. Suso was superb in the 1st half of the season , he was the talk of the town in Spain . Especially after his dribbling displays against Barca. 25(6) appearances 2 goals and 7 assits for a 19/20 years old in La liga for a relegation side that plays negative football .. I think that's progress .. Suso 30!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. People complain about our fullbacks giving crap service. Well if you want great service from back, look no further than Coentrao! His assist for Benzema was beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  31. He has been important from time to time

    ReplyDelete
  32. If suso was still at liverpool it's probable that he wouldn't be getting as much game time with us than he has at almeria, so I think it's worked out for the best as I'd rather see him getting game time in another league rather than sitting on the bench at liverpool like Moses has, bring moses in so we can use him when we need him and let suso develop in one of the best leagues in the world, pretty good plan if you ask me :) seems to have worked aswelljim

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's clear enough we didn't need Suso and he would have been stunted here. A full season of regular games against quality opposition is great for him. Essentially we're getting back a mid-range La Liga attacking midfielder where as previously we just had a guy with some potential. I think we got some minimal value from Moses although if we knew his salary maybe "value" would be the wrong word. He played some minutes and had a few decent games where we needed him before Sterling really stepped up into his role. No big deal, he's a loan signing and we're not interested long term so he can try his luck somewhere else. I can't see any universe where he'll make it at Chelsea so I think he needs to be sold.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think there will not be any more loan players coming in. I think that was a solution for the lack of budget and pulling power. That should no longer be a problem now. As for Moses, he hasn't managed to become a regular and for me, only loan players who become regulars are worth signing on a permanent contract. However, I was impressed with him when he came on against Citeh and Norwich. He got stuck in right away and that shows he is a true professional to me.

  35. Black/Africans were hung some time back... lynching, etc... like 5 years ago there was a noose hung outside a predominantly black school... lets just say there was a law suit involved.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Fine... Fry the Bastard!

    ReplyDelete
  37. As in KKK attacks on African Americans?

    ReplyDelete
  38. yes, but also further back...not sure how brits take it but saying something like that is a huge no-no here...

    ReplyDelete
  39. I disagree - it makes sense. Remember what his national coach said about Moses coming to Anfield last september:
    http://m.ibtimes.co.uk/liverpool-premier-league-champions-moses-transfers-505613
So, Moses transfer did make sense, beacouse his coach was then able to make such prediction. It was worth if only for that case ;);)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree. Plonk Man has been a bit insensitive.

Moses should be cast out into the desert.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "I came to Liverpool to do a professional job for them..."

I believe the pronoun he uses is in reference to chels, and the "professional job" to which he refers is a failed attempt to derail our season--a mission most likely tasked him by that deplorable clown, Jose Mourinho.

Over-the-top conspiratorial, I know, but his lackluster performances throughout the season lead me to no other conclusion.
    Good riddance, Moses.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think Moses has more ability than we have seen. I just think it's more his attitude.

As for Suso it may have seemed better to get him playing more games rather than be a squad player for us. Would the combined minutes of Moses and Alberto this season been enough for Suso to grow as a player or is playing against Real Madrid and Barcelona going to aid him better? I have my opinion on the matter.

    ReplyDelete
  43. So Suso can't impress enough for a la liga straggler to get on but would have had more time than Moses? He was sent to get more experience and he has gotten that. It may not have worked out that well with reports about his attitude being a problem but getting games against Real and Barca (full 90 against each i think) is better than getting a couple of minutes against City and Chlesea at best imo.

    ReplyDelete
  44. We are top of the league playing exciting brand of football and you're harping on about players not being good enough. Okay Moses hasnt exactly set the world alight this year but perhaps there is more to it behind closed doors. Maybe Suso's attitude stank? Maybe he wanted to be a starter and play regular first team football? Maybe Luis Alberto will come good next season?

  45. "Liverpool wanted me to stay; they didn't say I had to go on loan. But I know there are a lot of good players at Liverpool, maybe I wasn't going to start games. I am young - the most important thing right now is that I have to play." Suso

  46. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jena_Six

This is what he's talking about I think. Some guest tried to pose as me, but hey thats kinda the same point I was trying to make, so what evs.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So, just because LFC are top of the league it means nothing can be criticised? Get a grip. Please stick to discussing football, and stop moaning about things that are totally irrelevant. My views on LFC are not dictated by position in the table, and it's nonsense to suggest that there's a moratorium on criticism just because LFC are top of the league.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sterling's form has wiped away all disappointment! We got Moses just in case sterling wasn't ready for first 11 football. Boy is he ready! At least we know now we don't need him, he is Chelsea's piece of deadwood! You're absolutely right JK the jury's still out on Rogers transfer activities. Let's hope for a great summer, since the last 15years have shown that after a one step forwards we take three back!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ramires banned for Sunday, the rest of the season and game 1 next year. Every little bit helps. I have to believe the 4 matches is the result of a pattern of behavior, not just this one incident.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Is that you Not You or is it not you Not You ?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Brendan Rogers it's a wonderful coach with no doubt, but i'm not convinced about his skills in hiring players, only Coutinho and Sturridge make a good Job, Aspas, Sakho, Cissokho, Alberto, Moses, they are terrible

    ReplyDelete
  52. Rogers may be good tactically but his judgment in players leaves a lot to be desired.Remember he nearly shipped out Henderson and sterling this year. and as for aspas and moses an co there are better players in division 3

    ReplyDelete
  53. the core of rogers team was already at the club and credit to him for shaping them up ...there is only sturridge who is a nailed on starter who he has bought. For all the hoop lah on Tino for a lot of the season hes been hit and miss.Mingolets distribution and ability to claim high balls is nothing short of garbage. We are where we are because Gerrard and sterling ( who i had written ) hendo skirtal suarez and sturridge have performed almost superhuman added to the fact that we are in no cup comps.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Why is it a huge no-no? It isn't blatantly racist, maybe he meant it as being a racist comment, maybe he didn't, maybe it's just your interpretation of it. Maybe all he meant was he has been terrible for the Reds, if he said the same thing about Aspas, would that also be racist?

    ReplyDelete
  55. The Suso we have seen, especially after the first half of the season would have yes. But and this is a big but, he has gotten game time with Almeria, he wouldn't have necessarily gotten game time with us and now we are in CL, he can be a backup for Coutinho when Coutinho gets tired and jaded.

    ReplyDelete
  56. To be fair, Benteke hasn't been great this season either.

    ReplyDelete
  57. And I think Suso, as well as Borini, will come back as better players. I still believe Borini has a big part to play in our future.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Seriously? If that is the case, then Thibault Courtois would have had a terrible game for Atletico against Chelsea too. As well as the full season, especially being that Atletico are huge rivals to Real.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Coutinho isn't a nailed on starter? I believe he is.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The 4 game suspension is due to his second red card for violent conduct, it would have been a 3 game suspension if it had been his first, but he got sent off a few weeks ago against Villa for a horrible challenge which was also seen as violent conduct..

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sakho is an excellent defender, and Aspas, Cissokho and Moses by being in the squad, it makes the starters perform better, so they are playing a role. Alberto is a very good player, but was always going to be one for the future. You also have to realise that he has come from a new league and needs time to adjust.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree with your assessment of Moses. The first goal that he scored at Swansea was a ripper; alas all too little.

    ReplyDelete
  63. wasn't a completely serious comment, gaz, but can't help the paranoid side of me entertaining that thought when i see moses' take-it-or-leave-it attitude on the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  64. We know it's a no no there. We also know you've totally lost the plot in your political correctness.

    ReplyDelete
  65. To the vast majority it doesn't strike people as racist. These kinds of things only sound racist when one person interprets something so vague like this as hardcore racism.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Who cares about other managers? It's just your tactic to divert criticism and in that way it's a tacit admission that gilstrap is right.

Did you suddenly forget about Henderson's proposed move to Fulham? Or how Rodgers tried to replace him with three different players; Allen, Shelvey and Sahin?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I will say in Rodgers defence that we will get most of our fees back on his players no massive losses thank god Sahin Moses and Cissoko were loans though.
I would say there is some young ones who still need time there like Llori and Alberto and really how much responsibility does fall on the manager if the scouts do their jobs properly?
I would also place some of the blame on this transfer committee as well how dare the lot of them get us to the top of the ladder.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yeah Pete how dare the likes of Rodgers the transfer committee and the scouts put the club in this dire situation on top of the ladder.
Lets not wine lets just be happy and enjoy the ride.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Rakitic was the engine that drove Sevilla to a 2-0 semi-final Europa Cup win today...just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  70. But that was the start of last season, not the start of this season, as far as Henderson goes, so that is just wrong, and as far as Sterling goes, there wasn't anything about Sterling being sold, loaned out maybe, but not sold.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Don't mean to nitpick, but the player's name is Ilori with an I for indigo, not Llori. But agree that Ilori and Alberto are bought for the future and I have said this previously, but I still believe Borini has a big future at our club.

    ReplyDelete
  72. That's what gilstrap meant and that's what I'm referring to.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thats what the new scouts and transfer committee are set up for so the blame can be shared equally.

    ReplyDelete
  74. True but it is probably tough to stay fired up on a crap team. Lukaku is much better but he would be an improvement on what we got from Moses. I prefer giving Ibe and texeira chances like we did with Flanno. Need to find out who is a keeper and who isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  75. What really gets on my teddies is the media talking about how Mourinho will field a weakened side. First of all, we can beat them any day of the weak so we don't care who they put on the pitch and second of all, a Chelsea team missing Terry and Cech is still a team most PL clubs cannot put in front of us. They act as if we'll be playing a bunch of reserves but we will be playing 11 full internationals who cost astronomical amounts of money and who make even more than that throughout their contracts. Now, when we win the title, it will look like we won it because Chelsea fielded a so called weakened side whereas we will win the title because we're simply the best team in the country.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Rodgers did not nearly try to ship out Hendo & Sterling this year.

Sakho, Coutinho, Sturridge, Mignolet, Allen and Toure have all been part of the title challenge this season and other than Toure IMO the other 5 players will be at the club long term. How is that trying to deflect criticism and how does it make gilstrap right?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Agree it might not be racist at all but it is still a comment that would be better not made

    ReplyDelete
  78. yes on the face of it a bit ott perhaps though we don't know what was in the poster's mind- apart from vey littlr obviously

    ReplyDelete
  79. That's the thing though - we don't know what he was thinking so it's innocent until proven guilty :-)

    ReplyDelete
  80. FFS. That story is about black kids bashing a white kid. This is about hanging Victor Moses. So HOW ON EARTH did you find any kind of relationship between 'hang the f**ker' ( a black man), and a story about a white kid being bashed!?

You are one of these annoying custodians of political correctness that the world could really do without at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Unfortunately people are too politically correct in this day and age. A comment that isn't the nicest comment, would be seen as a harmless comment if made against a white player, but if the player happens to be black, everyone gets on their high horse about it and says it's racist (generalising here). Funny thing is and again generalising, the majority of black people wouldn't consider it racist, it's the white people who are the ones that consider it racist.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Lukaku would be a beast, he has very good footwork for being such a big lad and would also be a perfect foil for the likes of Suarez and Sturridge, would love to have him playing for us. Can't see Everton being able to afford him as Everton don't have that much money.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Should have read gilstrap's comment more carefully before replying I guess, I was reading Loganlfc's, then read gilstrap's after I posted it and realised that gilstrap wasn't referring to Henderson being nearly shipped this season or Sterling being sold. My mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Rakitic would be a quality addition if we can prise him away from Sevilla, maybe a player plus cash deal, sending Aspas to Sevilla? One can only dream.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yea I'm not really sure where I stand on it. I understand JK's point about loaning suso and bringing in Luis Alberto but I can also see how a loan may have greatly benefitted suso. Anyway I trust that Brendan has a plan.
With regards to the racist argument I agree with you. White people were hanging each other long before we were hanging black people. I hate the desperation today's culture has for everything to be offensive and prejudice. The above argument is a classic example. No race, colour or anything of that ilk mentioned yet people interpreting a throwaway comment as racist. I find it very frustrating

    ReplyDelete
  86. Actually...

He considered to send Hendo as a makeweight to Fulham for Dempsey two summers ago.

And he considered sending Sterling on loan to Swansea this past January.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hey, I already said that the guest "not you" isn't me... I was just supplying a link to what he was talking about. smh..never meant it to grow this out of control, just thought it was a bit insensitive by Plonk Man.

  88. hendo to fulham sterling on loan to swansea

    ReplyDelete
  89. listen rogers has worked wonders with an inherited squad but the fact remains that most of the players he has bought in havnt made the team.

    ReplyDelete
  90. at the beginning of the season he was piss poor its only recently he has upped his game

    ReplyDelete
  91. Yes but some just need time we are supposed to still be in a rebuilding phase.

    ReplyDelete
  92. my main concern is that aspas and alberto look no better than suso its like a credit card paying off a credit card if you can understand my analogy

    ReplyDelete
  93. Aspas is a lost cause as is Cissoko and Moses but the rest are ok or need time yes even Toure but i get ya.

    ReplyDelete
