Classless: LFC legend blasts Man Utd's 'lack of respect' over Moyes rumours

Manchester United are rumoured to be on the verge of sacking beleaguered boss David Moyes, and after such a terrible season, it's understandable why the Old Trafford board may be considering such drastic action. However, the way United are handling the situation leaves a lot to be desired, and Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has accused LFC's great rivals of classless behaviour.

Earlier this evening, a United spokesperson confirmed that Moyes 'has not been sacked', but refused to confirm that the Scot would still have a job at the end of the season, stating.

When asked about the rumours surrounding Moyes, and Man Utd's response, Lawro barked:

"It shows a lack of respect [towards Moyes], and it needs some kind of clarity."

Have to agree with Lawro here, but this is only to be expected from a club whose crass and classless fans hired a plane to fly a 'Moyes Out' banner over their own ground.

Like LFC fans and the disgraceful treatment of Roy Hodgson, Man Utd supporters - with their gargantuan sense of entitlement - have ceaselessly belittled and attacked Moyes, a thoroughly decent guy, who is totally undeserving of such endless ridicule.

If United sack Moyes before the season ends, it will simply underline and magnify the farcical 'leadership' at the very top of the club. It will also cast a shadow over Alex Ferguson's legacy; he hand-picked Moyes, so what will it say about Fergie's judgment if his chosen replacement can't even last a full season?

Additionally, what happens if the manager who replaces Moyes suffers similar problems? Sack him too after less than a season? If the pressure was on after Fergie retired, it will multiply for whoever is stupid enough to take on the job next.

I feel for Moyes, but it's great to see this kind of turmoil at Old Trafford. The funniest thing is that Ferguson spent 27 years knocking LFC of its perch, but it's taken the Reds only one year to climb right back up there again.

Clearly, Fergie laid some enduring foundations.

I personally think United should go the Liverpool route and promote one of their former players, many of whom are undisputed masters of football management. My vote goes to one of the following: Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Paul Ince, Mark Hughes, or Steve Bruce.

Any of these celebrated managers should be able to take United back to the pinnacle of British and European football :-)

  1. I feel bad for Moyes in a way. It is partly his fault but I have noticed very few United fans have turned on Ferguson. United needed new players for the last few years and instead of buying those players like he should have done Ferguson left it for another manager to pick up the pieces. Ferguson left no legacy, he just left the club. A legacy is what Shankly started and that lasted through another 3 managers and 20 years dominating English football. What have United got to show for Ferguson? As the saying goes, it's always the rats that leave a sinking ship first.

  7. Hodgson was an appalling manager who was never qualified to manage football club. The fact he was appointed by Hicks and Gillette, owners who you consistently backed Jaimie, made the situation more inflamed. Konchesky?

We wanted Hodgson out and anyone else tainted by those jokers. Where would we be if you had got your wish for Hicks and Gillette to remain as owners?

Moyes is out of his depth. He says the same stupid things to try and fool Man U fans into thinking Fergie left him a complete wreck of a club. Personally I hope he stays but please don't say Liverpool fans should have sat and watched Hodgson ruin the club while giving him polite applause.

  9. "It shows a lack of respect"

Doesn't seem like a reach to translate that to "classless"

  10. Get a grip. Is the word 'classless' in quotes? No, therefore it's not a quote. What Lawro said is in quotes. 'Classless' is my catch-all interpretation of the incident. Perhaps you should learn to interpret a headline before casting aspersions, eh?

  15. Yeah but not winning the league for 24 years taking it one game at a time is the right thing to do right now so we don't mess up. Why look to next season when this season isn't over and done with?

  16. Although he's been with two of our key enemies now, I had respect for Moyes, thinking that he had done fairly well with limited resources at Everton, but his performance this season at Manure, when weighed against what Martinez has achieved at Everton, suggests that maybe he wasn't such a good manager after all.

Would be sad if he's sacked, because I also think he's a decent bloke and don't know where you go after managing Everton for so long and then being sacked by Manure after one season.

Not wishing to pile on the agony, but anyone heard the spoof Rodgers phone call to Moyes, inviting him to dinner? Absolutely hilarious. I play it probably every other day, especially if I need a really good laugh.

  17. So u work on ur interpretation of quotes rather than the actual quote . As classless as not ponying up five hundred bills to a hillsborough charity as promised , what is it now ? 3yrs. Or ur babymong comments relating to downs sufferers . I shall prepare for this not to be posted , but u can continue pulling the wool over liverpool fans but classless can be ascribed to u basex on the 2 examples given

  18. I heard on the radio that they said they don't comment on rumor. I think that is basically all you can say and it is definitely not classless. Fergie is classless. That statement is nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. But its still a stretch , not verbatim . Jk is classless #babymongs #hillsboroughcharitynonpaymentafterpromise

  20. We need two more league titles to be back on our perch! It has only just begun win it or not this season.

  22. By the way "Lawro" has said himself that Moyes is a mate. This is a non story.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Also. How do you think an incoming manager is going to feel knowing the treatment Moyes got?? Sacked after only 1 year! They should've done the same with red nose Fergie cuz he didn't win jack for years!! (And done us all a favour too!!) hahaha!!

  24. I think it will b another 20years for man untd to win it again.dont you think that liverpool will add a lot of depth in the squad, now that they in the champions league?liverpool had their barren spell and now its another team's'turn.......manchester untd

  25. i think its obvious what UTD need to do.....HIRE AVB!

  26. to be fair dm comes across a decent and humble man. this notion that man utd or any club has a divine right to any trophy is nonesense. Everything is earnt. UTD developed this ego during the fergie tenure - where he forever painted utd as the underdog against the FA, the media, the referee's etc - it guaranteed them at least 20 points a season. The utd teams of the last couple of years were atrocious and without the fergie father figure - they have fallen to par. No way are aging vidic, ferdinand, evra, giggs, going to be the spine of a title winning team. The likes of smalling, jones, butner, nani, valencia, cleverley are middle of the road players. RVP this year is clearly miffed at the fact that rooney is getting more attention than himself - the 300k a week for collecting the ball from defence was probably the last straw.

DM made one big mistake in getting rid of fergie's backroom staff and compounded by making phil neville his no.2 - history repeats itself and what is happening at utd is what happened at liverpool when KK left. DM to utd is what Souness was for liverpool - the only difference was that Souness was a successful manager in the conventional sense in that he had won 10 league titles as a manager and countless as a player. Moyes was counted as successful as his teams had punched above their weight due to lack of resources.

The game has changed and the way forward is the wenger, martinez and Rodgers way.

  27. Fans blame the Glazers. They'll say Fergie didn't get to spend so it's not his fault.

  28. ManU culture was always a house of cards with SAF as its base. It didn't exist before he got there and now that he's gone the first ill wind that blew crumbled the house. ManU isn't going to finish lower than 7th. You would think they're being relegated by all their fans' childish gnashing of teeth, wailing and lamentations. They need to get a firm grip on reality. They have a first year manager, their #1 goal scorer was hurt a lot, their base squad is a bunch of rickety middle aged dudes who just can't keep up. What did they think was going to happen this season?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Shhhh. We're not there yet. There are still great stakes on the table.

  30. I thought United would have some issues this year but I never thought it would be this bad. What makes it all the worse for Moyes is that Martinez has waltzed into Everton and made them even better. No transition period needed there, and yet the man who inherits a championship winning team has them struggling at 7th. I think that comparison will really hurt him and there are just not enough excuses. I wouldn't be totally surprised to see United give him another year in charge, he really should be given that, but I also wouldn't be terribly surprised to see him dumped. It's really quite an embarrassing fall from grace for the club and the brand as a whole and they will have big issues supporting their business model with no CL football and potentially decreased revenue as their fans become disinterested. It's a disaster of a season. Exactly what we were all hoping for.
