2nd Time Lucky: LFC want exciting €25m Brazilian hailed as 'best in La Liga'. Bid...?

Last summer, Liverpool came close to signing Brazilian left-back Guilherme Siqueira, but despite tabling a 'formal offer' for the defender, the the deal seemingly fell through, and the 27-year old went on loan to Benfica. Full-back positions remain a transfer priority for the Reds, and reports this week suggest that Siqueira remains on LFC's wanted list.

In August 2013, Sky Sports reported:

"Liverpool are locked in talks with Granada as they look to agree a fee for Siqueira. Rodgers is keen to push through a deal"

The Daily Mail further claimed:

"Sources close to Siqueira confirm that Liverpool remain the only club to have tabled an official offer"

According to the Daily Mail today:

"Liverpool have also continued to watch Guilherme Siqueira. The 27-year-old left back was the subject of a failed offer from Liverpool last summer.".

When asked this week about Siqueira's future, Granada president Enrique Pina told Radio Renascenca:

"Clubs are interested, but there is nothing signed with Granada or anybody. We respect Benfica and if they want [to sign him permanently], there isn't any problem."

When asked last summer about the Reds' interest, Siqueira - who has a €25m buyout clause in his contract - admitted the 'time had come' for him to move on. He told Brazilian newspaper Daily Catarini:

"The time has come [to move]. I have a price but it does not depend only on me. I have preference for Spain, but today English football is so advanced".

Granada boss Lucas Alcaraz certainly thinks highly of Siqueira, and in a recent interview, he hailed Siqueira as a 'great player' and claimed he's the 'best left-back in La Liga'.

Siqueira may be a good player, but at the age of 27, it's rather concerning that he's made only 200 appearances in the last 8 years, which is an average of just 25 games per season. That's clearly a below-average number of games per season for a professional footballer, but hopefully, there are no historical injury issues to worry about.

On the plus side, it looks like the Brazilian will bring an added attacking threat from the flanks. Last season, he grabbed 9 goals/assists in 35 games, and if he can replicate that at Liverpool, I'm sure fans will be more than happy. Whatever happens, Siqueira appears to be an upgrade on Aly Cissokho, who will almost certainly leave Anfield in the summer.

  1. I'd Love this guy. A bit old for FSG, but still plenty of time to make a good impact. However, I would question having both him and Enrique unless we get a good youth player. Personally I don't rate Robinson, so unless Smith can develop his game sufficiently by the time both of Enrique and Siqueria fall out of their prime, a 21-23 year old should be the focus in my opinion.

Oh, and by the way, I'm the same guy who frequently posted as "me" as a guest....i finally made an account ;)

  6. 25 million eh? Wasn't he a suspect target at 6 or 7 million last year? So at that price...let Real have him. I wouldn't even have him for the bench to be honest

  9. I remember this. We offered basically what they wanted and then Real came in and the price doubled or more. They ended up not selling him at all but loaning him to Benfica. Real are supposed to be interested again now that it looks like Coantrao is off. Unfortunately for us I see something similar. Us outbid like we are so often.
