Transfer talks? Agent of exciting €19m star confirms he's 'en route to Liverpool' today

In February, FC Dnipro owner Andriy Rusol claimed that he is 'one thousand per cent sure' that Liverpool will 'try again in the summer' to sign coveted attacker Yehven Konoplyanka, and it looks like his Agent could be on the way to Anfield for talks about a possible summer deal.

Speaking to the Ukrainian press in February, Rusol blamed Liverpool for failing to tie-up the €19m deal, but suggested that a deal will be done this summer:

"I am a thousand per cent sure that Liverpool will try again in the summer and then we'll let him go. Everything will be fine. If Liverpool, in the summer, report to us, Yevhen will still go to this club."

Two hours ago, Konoplyanka's Agent, James Lippet, tweeted the following:

Why is Lippet going to Liverpool, and why did he feel the need to tweet about it? Based on the Reds' history with Konoplyanka, it seems reasonable to assume that this could be related to transfer talks over a summer resurrection of the failed January deal.

Konoplyanka clearly wants the move. In January, he told reporters:

"Liverpool? I"m so excited about it and soon you will know where I will play. It's all very serious. I'm shocked myself. It will all be clear very soon."

Then, When asked in February about the failure of the deal, he told reporters:

"Well, I will not hide it, there is a little resentment, but life goes on. I hope that everything will turn out okay."

Last month, The Mirror claimed that Spurs are 'convinced' that Konoplyanka will choose White Hart Lane over Anfield this summer, but in light of recent events in club's respective fortunes, only an idiot would believe that's an actual possibility (!)

Liverpool are a million miles ahead of Spurs, and will be in the Champions League next season (probably as title winners), so why would Konoplyanka reject the chance to play in Europe's elite competition? Does he have kind of personal allegiance to Spurs? No chance.

Is it a good idea to pursue Konoplyanka? Is he a player who can improve Liverpool...?

* Thanks to Tony G for the heads-up.

  1. I'm really not that impressed considering the 15-20 mill. he's being touted at.

  2. I really wish people would calm down with the 'probably as title winners' comments.
Be humble. Still 6 games to go

  3. Don't assume too much regarding where we finish - lots of football to be played yet - one defeat and panic can set in - remember Leeds in the 1970s ??

  4. One I wasn't totally impressed with the man and the guy who owns the club is probably pals with Abromovich which indicates they'll snap him up just to hinder Liverpool's progress!

  5. his buyout clause reportedly reduces to 8m in the summer.

  6. Agreed, tempting fate

  9. I am getting confused who is this "en route" chappie?

  10. a quick look at world in motion ( the agency james lippett works for) shows all the players they represent no konoplyka whats more likely was that he was used as the english side agent brokering the deal ith konoplykna agent in ukraine also running things

  11. Agreed, still 18 points left to play for. West ham Sunday will be a tough game and you just know they will bombard us with cross after cross. Hope Skrtel and Agger are up for the battle.

  12. he represents more than one player and theres also more than one club in liverpool

  13. Why would anyone want to risk their credibility and claim any player would go to Spurs rather than us right now. He could of course be on his way to Everton...the toffees may pip the gooners to fourth. Actually, I hope they do

  14. he is very good player and a very talented winger he plays same style as ronaldo so why not buy him.... Bring him on but only for 12m

  15. See remark by "Dan". He probably has a nag running. As for his client After the good year so far I can see very little need for him to be bought.

  16. Everton can't afford Lukaku who is in negotiations with Spurs right now (agent said today), so how could they afford Konoplyanka???

  17. Konoplyanka would be a good addition to the squad, which will give us some much needed depth. We are nailed on for CL football next year, the idea should be now to identify the better players and try to get them signed before the WC in Brasil.

I don't think we should gloat too much, knowing where we have been after the glory years. Most especially when we have won nothing yet, with 6 games to go we are in the conversation as potential winners which bloody incredible to say the least (and would we have thought that at the start of the season). We have to do well against Manure Shitty and Chelski at home and not forgetting to win the other games also. What we can gloat about is that we will be in the CL next year and Manure Uniturd will not. In fact our local rival Everbum, might pip them to the Europa league if they beat the Wenger boys for the CL.

  18. Saw him against spurs, he was pretty awesome. Looks like assaidi and moses will def.leave this summer so a winger is well welcomed, even though we dont use wingers much in our games these days.

  19. Agreed. Good player. Great skills on the ball, though his final ball is inconsistent. Worth between 12-15m IMO. If we are going to spend 15-20m on a player, I was hoping it would be for Sevilla's Rakitic. He could play the same controlling role Gerrard is presently playing, and is good enough (IMO) to play it well. Given we will be in the CL next season, we can't expect Gerro to play every game, and he'd be a superb fill in/ future replacement. Jo Allen might be able to play the role, but he lacks the creativity. Same problem with Lucas.

  20. Do you not reckon BR will start Sakho instead of Agger? Taller, stronger and more likely to be able to handle Carroll. I know its never good tactics to change a winning formula, but it just seems more logical to me that Sakho would be better placed to hold off Carroll than Agger.

  21. He is pretty darn good. But I'd rather we re-evaluate our targets, the summer window has more options than the january window. People quote 12-15mil for Kono and 17mil for Shaqiri...I'd rather spend that similar fee on Shaqiri.

  22. He's good player but to say he was awesome against spurs is going to far. In fact at spurs he had a poor game against spurs second choice rb. I wouldn't pay more than 8 to 10mil for him, he's only year left on his contract at end of this season.

  23. Agree, if we're going to pay a lot for a player, it ought to be Rakitic.

  25. It could be the best thing for Arsenal in years...

  26. If you are being serious with your comment then I have to say that I fully agree with you. Arsenal have become the most complacent team in the league. As long as they qualify for the CL then all is hunky dory. Like last season when they celebrated like they had won the league when they finished 1 point ahead of Spurs in 4th.

Not finishing in the top 4 might just be the kick up the arse they need but then if they finish 5th Wenger will be saddled with that utter waste of a competition called the Europa League next season. Knowing Wenger he will play his reserve team for those Thursday night matches. So happy we did not have that distraction this season!

  27. I would like liverpool to go with 3-5-2 formation against westham.

  28. there is an extra incentive in winning the europa, the winners get into the champions league...don't they ?

    ReplyDelete
  29. That is only of benefit to the teams who drop out of the Champions League who then go onto win the Europa League. The Europa League is the biggest laughing stock of a competition ever.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It keeps your UEFA co-efficient rating high though. Porto and Benfica have arguably benefited from easier Champions League draws as a result.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Rakitic if we are going to spend that kind of money

    ReplyDelete
  32. Not only that, it also grants a lot of smaller European clubs from less reputable leagues a lot of exposure. These clubs relish the Europa league and don't see it as a burden.

  33. If I was a player I would sack this agent. Why does he constantly open his mouth via Twitter? He has gained fame from the January transfer debacle and I don't see any reasonable point for his tweet, other than to start nonsense.
