Transfer Boost: LFC free to try and sign exciting €50m attacking duo. Thanks, FIFA?

Quelle surprise: in the most predictable news of the year, FIFA have today suspended Barcelona's 14-month transfer ban. Whilst that's good news for Barca, it's also potentially great news new Liverpool, who are currently linked with two of the Catalan club's exciting attacking players.

This morning, FIFA released the following statement:

"The chairman of the FIFA appeal committee considered that the appeal lodged by the club [Barcelona] is to be granted suspensive effect."

This means that Barcelona are now free to buy and sell players this summer, though in all seriousness, did anyone ever doubt that FIFA would suspend their 'punishment'?

Clearly, the original sanction is just for show; they'll now go through the motions, and after the 'appeal', the ban will probably be removed altogether (or significantly reduced).

The suspension is, however, very good news for Liverpool, who can now target Barca players this summer, and two names recently linked with the club come to mind:

* Pedro: According to his Agent this week, long-time LFC target Pedro is 'very angry' with Barcelona at the moment, and the €40m-rated attacker 'may be sold' this summer, which offers LFC a great chance to snap up a truly top-class player.

* Cristian Tello: Liverpool are also back in for Tello, with the club reportedly in talks with Barcelona right now over a possible €10m summer move.

Are any other Barcelona players realistic targets for Liverpool this summer?

  2. FIFA are a joke.
I wouldn't mind to see Tello at Liverpool, but I'm not really a fan of Pedro.

  3. Pedro and Alexis would be class additions, Tello a decent squad player

  4. In my opinion we only need one of the two. I would probably go for Tello. The rest of the money again in my opinion needs to go on a left back, defensive centre midfielder and a young up and coming striker. Tello, Bertrand, M'villa and maybe someone like Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn.

  5. Not sure about Messi - what's his stats like?

  6. they're both really weak physically and tend to dive every time there's a contact (for someone like you who hate dive it's quite ironic to see that you link them with us).

Tello is not the smartest player, tend to run along the line just for the sake of it.

  7. Song & Tello
    Pedro not for 40m...Maybe 20m

  8. I think they are ok, he'd be a good squad player. He'd be good competition for Aspas.

  9. Highly doubt we will be signing Pedro, especially at €40m.

  10. I don't think we'll go bit both these players, one or the other I would think. Might re-open the door for Montoya too

  11. Would like us to throw in a cheeky bid for alexis sanchez, do not think they'd sell him though...plus he'd probably cost a decent amount

  12. So the Liverpool Echo reporting that Anfield's capacity is going to be increased to 60 000 and that designs will be released soon.

Revamping Anfield was always going to be the better option :-)

  13. Just a shame it can not be nearer 70k though....should imagine they'll be a serious amount of corporate boxes as well

  15. a sterling coutinho gerrard midfield ... thats a fifa formation ... we would be overrun all the time ;)

  16. for everything under 10m he would be a real steal! hes a young and explosive player!

  17. 60k is a massive step up from where we are at the moment. It is costing £150m for those extra 15k seats. Another 10K seats will cost another £100m.

  18. If B Rodgers is given the £70M that the owners claim he will be getting this summer. He should spend it on these 5 class quality attacking players

    1: LW: Y Konoplyanka(25) Of Dnipro for £14-£18M to compete with J Ibe(18)

    2: RW: N Redmond(20) Of Norwich for £4-£7M to compete and cover R Sterling(19)

    3: CM: I Rakitic(25) Of Seville for £14-£18M to compete with J Allen(24) and J Henderson(23)

    4: AM: I Munian(21) Of A Bilbao for £12-£17M to compete with Coutinho(21) and Suso(20)

    5: FD: L Remy(27) Of QPR for £10-£12M to compete with Sturridge(24)

Those 5 class pacey quick players will bring more class quality competition for places, quality and speed to the attack in squad

And B Rodgers should then ship out these 11 players this summer:

    2 Comical/ Poor loan signings: LB: A Cissokho(27) LW: V Moses (22)

8 Dead wood average or injury prone players:

    GK: B Jones(32) RB: M Kelly(23) CB: S Coates (23) CB: Toure(34)

    AM: L Alberto(21) RW: O Assaidi(25) FD: I Aspas(26)

    FD: F Borini(22)

1 world class quality player manager no longer trusts or wants at the club: GK: P Reina(31)

B Rodgers needs to ship out those 9 players off clubs books and bring in £30-£40M on sales

And then B Rodgers needs to bring in these 4 defensive players with the £32-£42M

    6: GK: A Mccarthy(24) Of Reading or D Marshall(29) Of Cardiff for £4-£7M to compete with Mignolet(25)

    7: CB: D Lovren(24) Of Southampton for £12-£16M to compete with Skrtel(29)

    8: LB: B Davies(20) Of Swansea for £4-£8M to compete with Enrique(27)

9: DM: M'Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan for £8-£12M to compete with Gerrard(34) and Lucas(27)

  19. and thank god transfers will have nothing to do with you

    ReplyDelete
  20. Would rather see us go for a good creative midfielder like Kroos or Koke and someone like the Bender twins and a full back than wasting time to buy these players..

    ReplyDelete
  21. Now that we are back among the Elite. Can we get Reus? Wouldn't he be less expensive and younger than Pedro.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Not looking so genius now eh! Jaimie?

Mourinho charged and Ramires banned, along with Faria. Happy days. :-)

is he all that? Would he actually get more game time at lfc?

    ReplyDelete
  24. There's no way to prove Mourinho's intent. If I was him, I'd hire the most vicious QC money can buy and fight the FA.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Like you have said the press have been leaking that, but in all honesty that is what he will need to complement the squad and bring class quality players better than what we have on bench on in reserve to club this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No worries. I said I may be wrong!
Tello is Spanish and 22 years old.
The legislation applies to individuals as well as corporations.
I doubt if UEFA would relish another Bosman type ruling.

    ReplyDelete
  27. He would get more game time at Liverpool but is he all that? That would be a question that needs to be answered. Look at Sturridge and Coutinho. All they needed was a little faith in them and look what's happened. Still think Coutinho needs to work on his shooting though.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Totally agree with you,I've watched him live and he's nothing to shout about.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Watch Montoya,he always needs two touches,Messi gets very angry with him, loses a lot of possession also.

    ReplyDelete
  30. No Jordan? I presume you're a fantasy fooball person.

    ReplyDelete
  31. £14-18 million Kono to COMPETE with Ibe,does he 'sign on' the days he doesn't start or will Rodgers give him a 'Zero Hours' contract?

    ReplyDelete
  32. And just work.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would like to see Lfc sign, Alaba, Dante( very unlikely but would be a good link with flano and skrtle) Erikson, Hulk?? And A young striker...

    ReplyDelete
  34. pedro and alexis my friend , pedro and alexis

    ReplyDelete
  35. we need experience , we have just too many "kids' in our books ..alexis sanchez and pedro my friends

    ReplyDelete
  36. How much have we got to spend?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Didn't say he was my first choice, just the club seemed pretty keen on him last year. Tbh I haven't really seen enough of Montoya to make an informed decision

    ReplyDelete
  38. The suspension always seemed to be a warning shot across the bows

    ReplyDelete
  39. LOL this does not mean it'll be our line up but you have to have some quality in every position no matter who sits the bench ... and an ATM RW LW of sterling coutinho suso pedro is not bad

    ReplyDelete
  40. yes you are right and i know we need JH there

    ReplyDelete
  41. The banned wasn't for selling players.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The suspension will be turned into a higher fine going straight into Sepp Blatters pocket

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm seeing a few reports on Mascherano coming back to the Prem. Defensive Midfielder who has played a lot at Central Defense for Barca this season, Rodgers loves that versatility... I didn't like him much when he was at Anfield, I thought he was too aggressive and was always getting carded. But he seems to have calmed down a bit since then and his experience in the Champions League could be crucial. Would you take him back?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Think these will be the guys Rodgers will be seriously looking at over the summer:

papadopolous, konoplyanka, mkhityran, eriksen, cavani, firmino, vertonghen, shaw, montoya, tello, m'villa, capel, turan,

If we can get two or three of them across the squad would be a really decent return. Sure there will be others as well popping up and I wouldn't be surprised if we went after some really top quality kids as well.

Personally I'd also take a look at Hector Herrera, Juan Iturbe, Lazar markovic

Fingers crossed.we'll get in some decent talent and hopefully we only target 'first team' players.

LB will be our biggest problem - not many good ones out there and no one wants let go if they have one.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Pedro is better than tello...I hope we go back in for konoplyanka too...we'll be even more frightening going forward ..

    ReplyDelete
  46. Really? You didn't like Masch? I loved him. I remember his first match. The first thirty minutes were horrible. Then he seemed to click and he played an outstanding last 60 minutes. The first sliding tackle that he turned into a defense splitting pass sealed it for me. Best DM we've had. Ever. Including Hamann and Gerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Dive? Might have to agree to disagree there. I thought he actually took his leg.

    ReplyDelete
  48. He will show Ibe(18) the ropes and they would both compete with one another for the LW starting position

    ReplyDelete
  49. 60K is just catch up 70K would be forward looking

    ReplyDelete
  50. I hope atleast LFC will able to get sign Cristian Tello,Pedro,Koke, Luis Muriel and Kryakos Papadoulos.Enough...

    ReplyDelete
  51. yeah, brilliant holding midfielder, never really been replaced at Anfield. Think his age will go against him though, soon be 30, plus Rodgers will keep Gerrard there, at nearly 34! Think it's a position that seriously should be looked at.

    ReplyDelete
  52. lol, I never rated him too highly.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Why not go for Fabregas?
