'I'm in contact with LFC' - BR sends scouts to watch powerful €3m midfielder. Bid?

Liverpool are currently in talks with Ghanaian midfielder Daniel Amartey over the possibility of a move to Anfield during the January transfer window.

According to The Mirror today:

"Rodgers' spies have checked on the teenager [Amartey] and the Reds are keen to do business in January.

"The deal would see Amartey loaned back to Djurgaarden until he qualifies for a work permit"

Speaking to Nyheter24 this week, Amartey confirmed that talks with LFC are ongoing. He noted:

"I have been in contact with the club [Liverpool]. It's a good club that I could play in. I've always dreamt of playing in the same league as my hero Michael Essien.""

His agent, Patrick Moerk, also believes a move for €3m-rated Amartey could be on the cards. He told Fotbollskanalen.se:

"There are big clubs interested. The last time I experienced something similar was with (CSKA Moscow midfielder) Rasmus Elm. But Amartey is only 18 years old, and has impressed as a defensive midfielder and central midfielder."

Some info about the 18-year old midfield:

* Defensive midfielder, who can also play at centre-back.
* Due to have an operation on his hand next month.
* Currently a Ghanaian Under-20s player, but is expected to get a full call-up soon.
* Made his league debut in March 2013.
* 28 games/1 goal for Djurgaarden's first team so far.

  1. No doubt another 'one for the future'. I'm sure one or two of these signing will come good but TBH it's hard to get excited when so many young players don't make it at the highest level.
On a separate note - I've just been reading about Ray Clemence retiring from football. A fantastic keeper for LFC and a great servant to the game. Kinda makes me nostalgic for the days when we used to have so many top class keepers in this country. Best wises for your retirement Clem and thanks for the memories.

  2. I watched that twin derby game live in the stadium. The overall quality on display was quite poor I must say, considering that these two teams were amongst the in-form teams in Sweden over the last few months.

I doubt that you will find an 18-year old in Sweden with the potential to justify a 3m price tag. The league has got a very poor standard (usually no Swedish team anywhere near the CL group stages). At 500k maybe worth a gamble ...

    ReplyDelete
  3. Looking at his bursting runs on one of the videos on YT, he seems an awesome talent to have. But, then how good are the standards in Sweden league? I really think it should be 1m tops.

  4. I don't see what need this kid would fulfill for us. At 18, in a sub-par league, he is definitely not going to challenge anybody on our first team. I see 2-3 years of playing on the under 21 squad as a minimum. Maybe that's the thought. If so, he might be worth the gamble. I can only assume that we have scouts out all over looking for future talent. OK great...what do the scouts out looking for a good AM tell us.

  5. It's close but at the moment I think the Arsenal three are in better form. I feel those three are a bigger scoring threat than our three and that tends to make defending against their 4-5 scoring threats a little tougher than defending our two scoring threats.

  6. liverpool should attck arsernal rather then trying to contain
    dormount,chelsea did and won

  7. Two different styles Jamie. Arsenal play with one up front therefore leaving space for midfielders to run beyond hence the amount of assists and goals from that area for Arsenal, on the other hand Liverpools midfield is based around getting the supply to Suarez and Sturridge as quickly as possible and letting them weave their magic.
Liverpool are more solid because of the fact they don't need midfielders running beyond leaving them exposed at the back. If Liverpool play their cards right they could easily exploit Arsenals requirements in this dept.

  9. Gentleman's right, you know: Liverpool have the greatest midfield, strikers and defenders and Arsenal haven't a chance! Liverpool is ever so dominating in every area of the pitch..Arsenal should simply forfeit.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Suarez is a special player, no doubt, but Sturridge is not a CL level player, which is what Liverpool will need to get into that elusive top 4.
I agree with Nicol that if Liverpool win the midfield battle, they'll likely win the game, but it's never going to happen.
With a midfield that can't score, Liverpool are relying on Suarez to work his magic in every game. Even if he scored every week, that alone won't be enough to get them into the top 4. The suggestion of challenging for the title is delusional on par with the average Tottenham.
The phrase "one-man team", was never more appropriate.

  11. IM not sure where Nicol is coming from, we have the two best strikers but I worry about us being able to compete with Arsenals far more mobile midfield. Incidentally Suarez didn't play in the Southampton game you mentioned in the article.

  12. As a Gooner (with a soft spot for LFC) I am obviously hoping for a win but it's going to be a close game with LFC beginning to show real potential. It could be a corker of a game, high scoring, or they could nullify one another and it end up a damp squib. Bring it on and apart from against us, I hope LFC have a good season. See you tomorrow.

  13. I think Arsenals are technically better. But Liverpool will stand a much better chance of bossing it. Ozil isn't a tough tackling player, and neither is Arteta really.
Its going to be an interesting game. A draw wouldn't be a bad result. But we have the ability to get the win. No mid week game for Liverpool, plus Arsenal have a pretty important game against Dortmund coming up next week to think about as well.

    ReplyDelete
  14. How is Sturridge not a CL level player? his goals scoring/ assist stats easily hold up against some of the 'top' teams stats.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Didn't arteta get sent off last week ?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh yea, so he wont be playing.

    ReplyDelete
  17. yeah thats why he missed out the cup game..

    ReplyDelete
  18. He's a gooner bud! You can make out from his tone, I'd be surprised if he's a Red.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I meant the Newcastle game (playing against 10 men)

    ReplyDelete
  20. think so too, i mean where on earth are we a one man team? sturridge is leading the top-scorer list, our defence looks very compact and we have a team that is strong enough to finish in the top4 ..

    ReplyDelete
  21. They're more creative than our midfield and our tacklers wouldn't have a chance to tackle much if they're on pass and move.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why's the poll say Arteta/Ozil/Wilshire when I have watched Arsenal this season it always seems to be Ramsey instead of Wilshire? I may be wrong though. Wilshire is overrated as well.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Did you see his goal against Norwich?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wouldn't say anyone is in top 4 just yet, I'd rather wait till March to at least have an idea who are going to finish because this will be one of the most interesting seasons so far in PL and any team could make it in the top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  25. not saying were already there - i´m not overly confident we will get top 4 either, but chances have never been so good for us in recent years!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't come here to Liverpool-bash, I promise I haven't, but I cannot see how anyone can say Arsenal's midfield isn't better, regardless of which 3 players they play there. Many people, Arsenal fans or otherwise will find Nicol's comments laughable. From the outside looking in, do you Liverpool fans not feel that with the age he is at now, Gerrard is actually holding you back abit? He's not 25 anymore. And I'm not here to give Henderson stick either, but he's clearly not in the class of Ozil, Cazorla, Wilshere, Ramsey or the hugely under-rated Rosicky. We hold our hands up and say your strike-force is clearly supior however.

    ReplyDelete
  27. youre midfield is (probably with chelseas) the strongest in the league atm, no doubt, while our midfield is one of our weaknesses (in terms of quality coverage for example) your entire midfield is on fire, given the form of özil & co you´re the winners there but as you say our strikers are unplayable at the moment - what a nice game this is going to be :)
about gerrard you may be right - or you may not... hes not the youngest any more, he lost some pace and his feet got tired a bit but his passes are still world class so is his leadership. whatever he should be given a rest more often IMO

    ReplyDelete
  28. I do agree that Liverpool won't be challenging for the title but where is the evidence that Sturridge is not a CL level player? He was never given a chance at Chelsea on a regular basis to show what he can do but when he was sent out on loan to Bolton he scored 10 goals in 12/13 games. You can say that's Bolton though but it's harder to score for a lesser team. I have friends who are Bolton fans and they have very fond memories of the lad. Also 21 goals in 27 goals (that's not counting the assists) in fantastic for any player considering the goal scoring spell dies down normally after 10 games. Ask Amir Zaki former Wigan striker on that one.

The phrase "one man team" was never less appropriate because in the 10 games Suarez was suspended we only lost one game and we looked like a threat going forward in every game. Just because he is the shining light in the team does not mean a team is a one man team. You could argue Barcelona and Real Madrid are one man teams on your logic because Ronaldo and Messi are stand out players in their teams but they're not one man teams really though are they. Their star players stand out. Oh and before you say it I am not comparing Liverpool to Barcelona or Madrid.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Our strike force is a force to be reckoned with which can actually wreck any team just like your midfield which is actually doing superb at the moment.

We can't say your midfield will win you the match and our strikers would win us the match, can we? Its a game of 11 players where everyone has to play and contribute so as to win.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It was a great goal to be fair but I still stand by what I say he is overrated. IMO I don't think he will reach his potential because of his injuries. Injuries can effect a player just ask Owen.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lets hope we can score more goals than Arse, because am pretty sure this isn't a game where it'll be a draw. More of a NUFC like, but not a draw am sure.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, I agree with you about injuries and Wilshere not being able to fulfill his potential because of them. But, am sure Barkley and Morrison will sooner rather than later take his place in the national team setup.

We will have Sterling from LFC on the wings, but I want Robbo to be ahead of Shaw which he actually can do if and only if he's given the chance to prove himself and also more faith needs to be shown in him.

OT: Soton do have a knack of producing some good LBs lol ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree Gerrard is holding us back. He has the odd "where the hell did that come from moment" but it's less on a consistent basis now and he seems to give/lose the ball a lot more now and his Hollywood balls aren't as accurate either but alternative is a Henderson, Lucas and Allen midfield and I'm not to fond of that either. Henderson isn't on the same level as the players you mentioned but what Henderson has in his favour is teams underestimate his ability because of his first season at Liverpool but he has improved a hell of a lot since then. He could easily get in to 7/8 out of 10 of the top 10 midfields.

    ReplyDelete
  34. We only have 1 player that any of the usual champions league teams would want. It doesn't make us a 1 man team, but it can't be seriously argued that we have more than 1 top-class player. If we can sign 2 more of similar quality in Jan we're on the right track to challenge. We'll never be great again with this manager though.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't think he will be great under BR but I do believe he is the manager to get us back on track. I do think he could bring a league title or two if given TIME but he won't make us what we were in the 70/80s.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Then who can? Someone has to and we should back him up for it. I am sure no one expected Shankly and Paisely to make us what we were then.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope he does but I just don't think he will but that's me being pessimistic. I will back him all the way however as you said who expected Shankly and Paisely to do it? Brendan is only a young manager as well so he will learn and become a better manager so you never know. I also do think this new transfer system we have is better than under the previous regimes. Find hidden gems for the fraction of the price.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm sorry but how is the leading premier league scorer not a CL player, I suppose Giroud is then?

    ReplyDelete
  39. 3 match ban weren't it? Straight red?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Should we then offer Wenger exchange of Sturridge for Bendtner?

    ReplyDelete
  41. striker yes, it would be liverpool. In mid it is arsenal with Ozil leading the pack, if the squad fully fit Ozil,Santi, Rosicky, Jack, Ramsey, Gnarby, OX, Theo, Zelalem, Eisfiled, Miyachi, arteta all player can produce creativity.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Take Ozil out of the Arsenal equation and who do they have to drive the team forward?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Bold statement about league leaders whos midfield are banging in goals for fun. At the moment there's no way any impartial football fan can say we have a better midfield. It just doesnt stand up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. ramsey is having the best season of his career at Arsenal this season, any other season before this he has been average. Wilshere is rubbish.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Cazorla, Ramsey, Rosicky and Wilshere...
Take Suarez out of your team and you'd struggle to finish above 8th..

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am not saying our midfield is any better but Ozil is making the difference for the Arsenal team this season.

    ReplyDelete
  47. You're right, you can't say your midfield is better, as it is far worse.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Do not count your chickens before they hatch. Tomorrows match has not even been played yet.

    ReplyDelete
  49. No, regardless of tomorrows result, it is widely accepted that Arsenals midfield is stronger than Liverpools, even your own fans agree. As previously stated, LFC have a stronger strike force.

    ReplyDelete
  50. We have won many games without Suarez. In actual fact, we have a better win % without Suarez in the team. You are just miff because Wenger failed to sign him.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The gunners need midfield goals and assists especially as Giroud goes absent for long periods of the game at times and they have no established back up. Suarez and Sturriddge hardly go missing and sometimes need 0 help, big difference!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I would agree that Ozil is one of the best no 10's in the world but I would not swop Arteta, Wilshere or Ramsey for any of our central midfielders thank you very much.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Correct hence Arsenal nearly always concede from open play

    ReplyDelete
  54. Isn't Arteta suspended for this game? He got a red card last weekend

    ReplyDelete
  55. not violent conduct so only 1 match ban

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree that they probably will. I hope it is sooner rather than later but it depends when the FA and the media pull their heads out of Wilshire's arse. I am a big fan of Jack Robinson and I do think he deserve a chance. The thing I've noticed with BR is that if a young player has one or two bad games in a row he seems to drop them indefinitely. Shelvey, Suso (seemed like that happened) Wisdom and it happened to Robinson and a few other young players. It's good that he is giving them a chance but he does seem to write them off quite quickly if they have a few poor performances which is never a good thing. Or am I just imagining things? :P

    They do seem to! ha

    ReplyDelete
  57. Its the same midfield we faced hundreds of times with no problems just with ozil inserted and now no walcott as an outlet, him being the only Arsenal player that seems to really test us every match and pull something out the hat. An all slow team Gerrard gonna love them nobody fast enough to run past him hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  58. But they didn't have an off day against newcastle, they linked for both goals. AS usual. The defence had an offday not them :|

    ReplyDelete
  59. Steve Nicol is being ridiculously optimistic to say that we have a stronger midfield than Arsenal. I'm not going to kid myself with that. Even without Flamini, their midfield quartet of Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla and Arteta will give us a hell of a hard time, with ease, not to mention there's still Jack Wilshere waiting in the reserves. If not for the individual brilliance of SAS, I cannot imagine where we will be in the league by now. But since we still have the services of SAS, so we better make full use of them. If our midfield can hold against theirs, it's still possible that we will earn a point from them, which will be an excellent result imho.

Still, no matter what, we shall fear no one. Now, bring it on, Arsenal! YNWA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think this is going to be a bigger test for Liverpool than it is for Arsenal.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think Nicol has been hitting the bong before this comment. Midfield is our weakest link. Lack of pace and offensive creativity are the reasons why. Even though SG is the best fee kick/penalty spot kicker we have, everyone knows the pace is largely gone and at the moment, Hendo still doesn't have the offensive instincts and playmaking touch to compete with Arsenal's group. I just hope our D and the combo of Coutinho, Sturridge, Suarez and Moses can drive the arsenal mids and D crazy. This game is HUGE especially being in London....We get our second real progress marker in this game (Man U being the first)......

    ReplyDelete
  62. 4-4-2. Gerrard, Lukas, Hendo and Coutinho. They could beat Arsenal...

    ReplyDelete
  63. the club was on top before Suarez turned up better get ya facts straight.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Wouldnt put Hendersons efforts below Rosickys he works damn hard and every team needs a player that puts in the yards yes he isnt top class but neither is Rosicky.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yes as Andrew said they both contributed to make our goals v Newcastle

    ReplyDelete
  66. If FSG do a Boson Red Sox at LFC then I wouldn't want anything else other than that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's how we ended up with Jose Enrique not Gael Clichy. At the time we thought we missed out big and so did other people but what impact has Gael Clichy had at City. None. He's unimportant to their team of "superstars" and that's what Red Sox aren't. A team of so called superstars and yet they are the best team in baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well, its been long since LFC had a lot of superstars with them at once. Its less than 12 hours remaining for the match with Gooners.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Liverpool's midfield is maybe more defensive with Gerrard playing deeper with Lucas and even Henderson is always pressing opposition players while Arsenal's is more about attack .it will be interesting to see who comes on top but I am sure LFC will need to start Henderson before Coutinho to combat Arsenal's midfield. Maybe at home they could have started Coutinho but Arsenal's midfield won't like being harassed by Henderson.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Great, I'll get excited when he makes his first team debut.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Gerrard is having a fantastic season mate. I was starting to write him off but delighted he's proved me wrong. The only area where age seems to be catching up is when someone goes past him. He's also an excellent captain. Totally agree with you about hendo.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Reminds me of a diame, yaya toure type player with his driving runs and he only 18 will only improve over the years :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Arsenal have been playing pass and move football for longer than us, and have more technically gifted players to embrace that style.

Especially if we're continuing with the 532 where there are reduced options ahead of the ball, then it becomes extremely difficult to anticipate us winning the midfield battle against Arsenal

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well he got that totally wrong.. It was exactly in midfield where Arsenal won it.... Lucas is average, Gerrard is not the player he used to be and Hendersons not great... Arsenal have a far better midfield.

    ReplyDelete
