Bundesliga Raid? - LFC want to sign €6m star with more assists than Messi & Neymar

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing VFB Stuttgart attacking midfielder Alexandru Maxim.

According to the Liverpool Echo this week:

"Liverpool...could move for Stuttgart’s young Romanian playmaker Alexandru Maxim when the transfer window reopens in January.

"A host of European clubs [are interested], and the Reds are keen to steal a march on the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke".

€6m-rated Maxim - a Romanian international - is in prodigious form this season, grabbing four goals and eight assists in eleven starts.

Maxim's eight assists make him one of the top goal-creators in Europe, ahead of established stars such as Neymar (7 assists), Ribery (6 assists), and Messi (4 assists).

Stuttgart signed Maxim during the January transfer window, so it seems unlikely that they'd sell him on just a year later, especially when he's in such great form for the club.

After signing the 23-year old, Stuttgart sports director Fredi Bobic enthused:

"With Alexandru Maxim we have acquired a technically skilled player who can be used in several positions in midfield. We see a lot of potential to develop"

If Brendan Rodgers is genuinely interested, Maxim's versatility is probably the key quality that attracted the Reds boss. He can play as a number 10, or out wide, which means he's suited to either 352 or 433.

Maxim may be on fire this season, but his career record of 14 goals in 107 games is nothing to get excited about.

  1. he looks a real player. developed really well. need players like him, fantastic touch and vision, good crossing ability. if we can get him for about £8M, along with Stefan El-Sharaawy as our £25M marquee signing from the summer. Personally in terms of a central midfielder I cant think of 1 better than diame. yes he plays for west ham but so his ability cant be shown to the maximum but Central midfielder are meant to control games and at times even against top teams he runs the games, up and down the pitch, bullying everyone. hes a big strong athletic lad. hes 25. even if we have to fork out £10M (despite the £3.5M release clause), we should do it. hes absolutely quality and with him no1 is bullying our midfield no more. and he gets goals at west ham, so imagine at Liverpool? he can dribble too.

  2. Henderson instead of johnson?! Maybe we should go for someone like michael bradley or obiang, or even m'vila

  3. Henderson should just be a bench player growing. I want Montoya bad. He's such a good player and will just get better. Johnson before Henderson as well.

  4. What is El Sharavy doing on the wing?

Buy someone for 25 million and then play him out of position??

Sounds like something Rodgers would definitely do!!

But thats not recommended. Plus Diame doesn't half solve our midfield problems. We need to buy at least two centre mids or play Allen with a dominating DM like M'Vila. Montoya on a pre contract along with M'Vila and Maxim would do fine for Jan.

I still wonder why we didn't go for Capoue, would have been perfect for us and even Strootman for that matter. Imagine this,

    ----------Johnson/Montoya----Toure----Skrtel----Enrique
    -------------------Capoue

  5. Suso has more assists than Messi ? Texiera scored two more in the under 21s - not good enough for Brentford ?.

  6. On an unrelated note, there's no more defending of David Moyes for his calling out of divers after refusing to acknowledge that Ashley Young simulated yesterday.

Amazing how people's behavior changes when they are under some pressure.

  7. At least justice was served by RVP not getting the pen. Then Fellaini getting sent off. It's surprising Phil McNulty didn't write another article about MU resurgence. I imagine they'll be going into Arsenal's game more than a little frustrated. Good times!

  8. Words out of my mouth!!! We already have Suso who's just looks like to be the next Isco!!! We have good players in our own reserves and only if we give them chance will we see how good they're rather than constantly buying even more youngsters who are probably shunting the growth of reserves.
