Valencia president Amadeo Salvo has officially confirmed that left-back Aly Cissokho is definitely joining Liverpool.
Earlier this week, multiple sources - including the BBC, Sky Sports, and The Guardian - claimed that Liverpool had finalised a deal to bring the French defender to Anfield, but this is the first official confirmation of the transfer.
Speaking to Cadena Cope after Valencia's opening day La Liga victory over Malaga, Salvo said:
"Unless there is a problem with the medical review, which will happen on Sunday, Cissokho is a Liverpool player."
According to Valencia-based newspaper SuperDeporte:
* LFC sealed the deal on Thursday night.
* The loan fee for the first year is €1m.
* After the loan year is up, LFC have an option to buy for €4m.
Cissokho first acknowledged Liverpool's interest in March, when he told French newspaper Le Parisien:
"I've never hidden the fact that the English league is the one that attracts me the most. It's pleasing to see my name linked to Liverpool. They're a great club, and not just anyone can wear that shirt"
Then, speaking to reporters last week, €8m-rated Cissokho told Le 10 Sport:
"Liverpool have made me an offer and I have reached an agreement with them. It is now up to the clubs to agree terms. I expect to know more later this week".
In his post-Stoke press conference last night, Brendan Rodgers said:
"We’re confident of adding one or two players [to the squad] before the transfer window shuts"
Cissokho appears to one of those players. Who will be the other? Should it be an attacker (Willian, perhaps), or should the club focus on bringing in another central defender, or even a defensive midfielder?
If I had to choose, I'd go for an attacker.
* Lucas needs competition, but it could be that Rodgers intends to use Joe Allen as cover for the Brazilian. If that's the case, then the team can bear that until the January transfer window.
* Speed, agility and aerial prowess are needed in central defence, so a new central defender is arguably a priority. However, with Andre Wisdom, Martin Kelly, Daniel Agger, Kolo Toure, and Martin Skrtel available, the Reds possibly have enough cover to last until the January transfer window.
* With Stewart Downing now gone, there's a vacancy to fill out wide. Sterling and Ibe are massively inexperienced, and cannot be expected to play every game. Aspas will need time to settle into the team, and Coutinho's best position is (arguably) central. If, say, Willian came in, it would give Liverpool a massive injection of quality in the wide areas, and free up Coutinho to work his magic behind Sturridge.

A good risk free(ish) signing, hopefully Willian in the next few days and i would be very happy with that!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think its a good deal, we deffo needed competition for Enrique, Willian next hopefully......but i would say that whilst we are on a happy spending spree, lets bring in a decent CB also, would seem a bit pointless leaving ourselves short in that regard & IF yesterday taught us anything....it was that even the great dane himself has been quite hit & miss, far from the reliable player he used to be, so don't see the point until waiting until jan esp if we have strengthened just about everywhere else.
ReplyDeleteHappy enough tho with the business we are doing in this window, but we may as well go all out if we want CL......which i think will be achievable this season....has to be....
Would love to see Willian and Damiao... I know I know... but stranger things have happened. Papadopolous may happen and Skrtel may still leave.
ReplyDeleteWillian next, then if skrtel goes bring in another CB.... :) also cissokho deal is good for us, if it works out then good if it doesn't we don't lose that much :)
ReplyDeleteGood work. Some cover at last. Actually thought Enrique and Johnson were brilliant going forward yesterday. So if they can keep that up we shouldnt have much problems there with Kelly and Cissokho as very capable back ups. So happy to have football back...
ReplyDeleteI wanted Sequira, but not for £12m. Cissokho can re-establish himself as a top full back in Rodgers' new system. Be interesting to see how good he is defensively, Enrique definitely raised his game yesterday, but going forward is too wasteful.
ReplyDeleteWillian please. And Papa.
Enrique is Liverpool's weak link. Hopefully this guy is much better going forward.
ReplyDeleteLike most on here, sequira probably would have been my first choice. But the price was ridiculous. This is a good relatively risk free signing that could turn out to be a great piece of business. We have not had a really decent LB at the club for a long time. Hope this lad can change that run.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, delighted for Mignolet yesterday, hopefully that will give him even more confidence and belief that he deserves to be wearing that shirt. Overall good team display.
its like u r reading my mind
ReplyDeleteSequira is probably a better all rounder than Cissokho, at present I favour Big Aly. He brings so add height and strength to the team. We need players who won't get bullied so easily, considering the average height and build of current team. Like yesterday Lucas and Lil Philly wud have got there asses handed to them by Nzonzi. Anyone know the situation with the DM Matheus Biteco, have we called it a day? Look really promising like a Luiz Gustavo.
ReplyDeleteI've got a feeling that the Willian deal could be dud tbh, there are no credible links so far, apart from the whispering of tweeter's......
ReplyDeleteWe have what we have until it becomes official, Cissokho will be a welcome addition, everything else is just rumours/chinese whispers.
Enrique looks good when he goes forward, and his movement is intelligent, but his final ball...
ReplyDeleteIs that the guy from Porto Alegre? I didnt even know we were being linked with him.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're right about Aly, i honestly havent watched enough of his games to have formed a solid opinion. Looking forward to that changing
First team physio, Chris Morgan is now following willian on twitter..... :-)
ReplyDeleteSkysports? Have said we are in talks alot of media out let have, so it can't be a dud, and there is credible links... We've just got to be patient :)
ReplyDeleteMatheus Biteco is the bloke from Gremio, looks good (worth a punt and loan him back). Think the thing with Aly Cissokho he started well early career, but he's didn't continue the progress that he was expected to make, he is a tad inconsistent but hope that one of Jose E or Aly C will pull there finger out and put the work in to improve.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Enrique does well to get the ball forward and keep the ball moving but struggles too much when it comes to making a cross into the right spot within the box for the forwards.
ReplyDeleteJohnson has similar problems in my opinion, but I think he practically abandons the idea of the cross and more often than not tries to break down the defense.
Didnt know we were being linked with anyone. He may be worth a punt, but i'd prefer to see them concentrate ona first team attacker now. Willian is all the talk but i'm not so sure we'll be pushing that one through. Enrique is a bit too wasteful, and if Aly can make the step up i think he will surrender his position. Nice to see competition in the ranks now at LFC for nearly every position. Positive about this season if we can add another player of Willians ability to the squad.
ReplyDeleteIf we're to be taken seriously we have to get players like Willian, toby/Papa and Eriksen now, then look at offloading the likes of Borini. Would like a strong DM to. Not going to happen i know, but Skrtel and Borini should almost pay for Toby and Eriksen. they will be snapped up soon.
ReplyDeleteAn okay signing IMO but still waiting for the attacking options that BR mentioned. Hopefully we get Damio and Willian who're helluva players and could make us even title contenders. Still I feel that its the DM area that needs a cover because very soon we might be exposed.
ReplyDeleteThink we've signed this guy about 8 times this summer. Lol
ReplyDeleteProvide me one genuine/credible source & i will be patient, still just a rumour in my book, nothing more nothing less.
ReplyDeleteHaha, the same Skysports/Slysports that were "reporting" that Suarez would not apologize...? :-)
ReplyDeleteI said credible...
i tend to get these tremors of anger everytime enrique decides he is good position to take a shot. his ratio of hitting the target is horrible. wide or over 19/20
ReplyDeleteIMO if BR can also seal the deal with Willian then i for one will be very impressed with who has arrived, i know its early but just looking at who we have brought in and who has gone, i can see the skill level and quality of footballers changing. I will agree with some that in the middle we might be a little light weight but if SG can stay fit, with Lucas then i think we will be all good.
ReplyDeleteOut- Carroll, Spearing, Downing, loaning out Reina, Shelvy
In- Aspas, Alberto, Mig, Toure, Cissokho and hopefully Willian
sorry if i forgot anyone but i think if we can just get Willian too, then having
Sturridge, Suarez, Willian, Aspas, Cortinho and Gerrard coming at you will send fear through the hearts of defences & midfield's in any team & having Toure, Agger, Skertl, Wisdom, Kelly, Johnson, Enrique and now Sissokho to choose from at the back, BR is on the right track for sure.
We also have enough depth to cover, Willian will give the team the speed and skill and with his way of playing football he will have no problems working in with the above. LFC foreva
But they are right most of the time....
ReplyDeleteif i start following him can it be counted as proof aswell? =)
ReplyDeleteFinnish liverpool fan Tuomas Pukki is following Willian in twitter, medical tomorrow!
"Most of the time".... is not good enough for me mate, i want proof of a link other than a "hint" that JK wrote about yesterday re Willian & who he was following, means nothing until it becomes credible.....
ReplyDeleteDon't think we should be counting chickens that might not/were never going to, hatch, is all....
he might know we are closing on him, getting to know each other but don't think willian could understand.... Haha
ReplyDeleteyep & if i start following you following him....? then that'll be even more proof right there. :-)
ReplyDeleteIts not happening, until it happens, until then it ain't happening!
Im not going to let this window get me down, had enough of that last summer.....
i know what you mean. i got mixed feelings. I dont think Liverpool needs Marquee signing. but i would feel better if one was made, shows intent on our behalf. i think weve done brilliant business by bringing in technical players who suits rodgers style of play and getting rid of highwage/lowperformance players, like Downing.
ReplyDeletewether willian comes or not. i dont think i will be too dissappointed. Willian in means Aspas to bench, and i want to see more Aspas in starting lineup. i like him, a lot.
then again, we would have terriffic sub, his pace and workrate coming from bench against tired defence.
as usual enrique was frustrating in the final third thank god we bringing in this guy
ReplyDeleteWillian was seen in Clayton Square Tesco in Liverpool, filling out a Tesco's club card form. More evidence!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy would it get you down? Been a great window with some very shrewd signings of quality players.
ReplyDeleteI dont buy into this marquee stuff (and i have never seen a player sign under a marquee) if the player is a right fit for the team get him in. A price tag doesnt signal intent, winning football matches does.
Anyway very happy with the balance and competition in the team. Another signing of any price as long as he has got quality will be very welcome
This has been a productive window with some very shrewd signings of quality players.
ReplyDeleteAspas looks like he knows exactly what his job is and looks more than capable.
Mignolet to me could be our 'keeper fo many years to come, the guy has class and bags more room to improve and develope.
Alberto is a bit of an unknown, but could turn out to be a class act.
The most impressive for me has been Kolo, he looks like a footballer reborn. After years in the city wilderness he seems luke a guy with a point to prove and i love that.
And now we are bolstering our LB options, a position we have struggled to fill for years.
For the first time in a long time we have players of quality challenging each other for nearly every position. The squad is young and will develope further.
I do think we need another attacking winger or midfielder, but I dont buy into this marquee signing stuff (and i have never seen a player sign under a marquee) if the player is a right fit for the team get him in. A price tag doesnt signal intent, winning football matches does.
Anyway very happy with the balance and competition in the team. Another signing of any price as long as he has got quality will be very welcome
The less said about his final ball the better!!! But we are lucky to have one player who does have a final ball...
ReplyDeleteIf you can't get me Costa, get me Willian OK?
ReplyDeleteIf you can't get me Willian, get me Damiao OK?
Look, just get me a brazilian, OK?
strikers:Suarez sturridge
ReplyDeletewingers :aspas, willan?,sterling
midfielders : coutinho,gerrard,lucas , henderson
9 really good players
reserve : borini, alberto and allen , possibaly ibe
fantastic squad for this season and the next 3
http://www.goal.com/en/rumours/last/72?ICID=HP_HN_2 Goal.com says we are closing down on williams for 15m!! that is unbelievable
ReplyDeleteThe weak link in our squad is borini cant see him making any impact
ReplyDeleteWe need one more striker.
Matri or daimaro would be nice
If we want complete samba why not robinho on loan
Looks like we are building a very attacking squad thats full of pace, power and skill.. about time :)
ReplyDeletewhat is wrong with british press? Toure refers to Suarez skill wise, "he can do anything" as in the pitch, that nothing is possible. and i see screaming headlines "SUAREZ can do anything and wed still forgive him"
ReplyDeleteslow news day, must be.....
Zenit are ready to outbid liverpool for willian, but willian doesn't want to move there, he desperately wants to leave Russia, which is positive for liverpool :-) hopefully agree a deal for him soon.
ReplyDeleteEriksens agent said the player wants CL, end of.
ReplyDeleteyou sure?
ReplyDeletemy misses had one. couldn',t walk for a week
This isnt proving his claim, but read this...promising.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.liverpool-kop.com/2013/08/lfc-transfer-news-willian-drops-anfield-transfer-hint.35m.html
He followed Coutinho and Lucas on Twitter, and a liverpool Physio followed him.... fingers crossed.!

ReplyDeleteYeah I heard they're hung like donkies....poor girl.
ReplyDeletenever trust goal.com nor caughtoffside.
ReplyDeleteHe must of been well hung so... :)
ReplyDeletehear, hear! its time for teams to start worrying how were going to set up instead setting our team up to contain others.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the dire football has come to an end.
He is so strong and quite quick, which helps him to be one of our better defenders at the moment. So wouldn't say he is the weak link in team, but I do agree he needs to improve going forward, espicially in the final third.
ReplyDeletetime will tell if he is good enough, however, squad depth is vital.
ReplyDeleteDaily Mail with their lazy pathetic attempts at journalism. The article is a joke. Totally mis-quoted in an attempt to sensationalise a non-story.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool will know in the next 24 hours if they got willian, other option for him is spurs(not surprised they came sniffing) according to Ben smith of BBC.
ReplyDeleteMignolet
ReplyDeleteJohnson Toure Agger Enrique
Gerrard Lucas
Coutinho
Willian Sturridge Suarez
Subs:Jones Kelly Skrtel Coates Cissokho Allen Henderson L.Alberto Sterling Aspas Borini
Top 4 here we come!
YNWA
Would love willian don't think it will happen. Spurs man united someone pinch him.
ReplyDeleteCB is needed Big time now.
Not sure what will happen if lucas get injured.
Spurs trying to hijack Willian with a 27M bid because we are only offering 26M. Why can't we just pay the F@*%ING valuation of 30M? Oh god now we drop our heads and look for other alternatives like Damiao and Turan like a weakling... The extra 4M is going to strengthen our rivals, lose our credibility, lose the fans and make Suarez, and even Coutinho wonder if their club have any ambition. This is a player who publicly stated he watches us play whenever he gets a chance, and wanted to come to us FFS!!! If Henry wants to make a statement, pay the extra 4M and show the Spurs we can't be pushed around!!!!!! If we lose Willian after what happened with Sigurdsson, Dempsey and Soldado the entire EPL and fans everywhere will think we are a joke of a club!!!!
ReplyDelete/Rant.
The same as Coutinho at Inter,
ReplyDeleteLet's hope he shows the same improvement!
I hope BR and FSG don't let Willian get away. We cannot and should not assume Suarez will not self destruct or play half heated. What's wrong with getting a teal dated guy that WANTS to be here not some prima dona who will only demand CL football. We just cannot blow this.....
ReplyDeleteWith all the talk of Willian i think its just another bad rumour but in saying that not sure he is worth anywhere near 30 mill pounds.
ReplyDeleteIn saying that you are spot on that they must not take the back seat with marquee signings.
Remains to be seen how good Cissokho can be, but at least the stats back up his basic defensive ability and ball retention. Enrique's biggest issue is getting caught in posession so if Cissokho can improve on that then it's a good buy. Looking forward to these two challenging each other for that spot, it's how it should be.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. I don't know willian except that several sources are wowed. If we get Damaio maybe that's good but your point of letting rivals swoop in and get strong while we are indecisive aches me to the bone....
ReplyDeleteNo way top 4 without CD help. Sell Skrtel and Coates while signing Sakho, then you've got something. Competition for Agger and a bit of rotation with Kelly and Wisdom.......defense still a hole. Game 1 showed that on set pieces and late game fatigue or in Aggers case, laziness or stupidity.....
ReplyDeleteuhuh...sure
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. Great news this.
ReplyDeleteFullbacks who can defend are so 1997
ReplyDeletehave a feeling the willian deal is slipping away....may be wrong
ReplyDelete
