'He's one the best' - Coutinho hails £69m duo, & reveals his major LFC 'goal'.

Liverpool attacker Philipp Coutinho has taken Anfield by storm since arriving at the club in January, and after watching Brazil win the Confederations Cup on Sunday, the youngster is determined to make it into the team for next year's World Cup.

In an interview last night, Coutinho - who cost the Reds €10m in January - outlined his hopes for the coming season with Liverpool and Brazil. He told Spanish newspaper SPORT:

"My goal is to be in the World Cup in Brazil, and I have all season at Liverpool to prove that I can be there.

"I want to play well for Liverpool, be a regular and have the opportunity to make it to the World Cup"

Coutinho will have a tough job making it into the team, especially when one of his competitors is Barcelona's new £49m star Neymar, who played an integral role in Brazil's Confederations Cup win. Coutinho is fully aware of the challenge, however:

"Neymar played very well, and had some great games. He scored important goals, and he's is a star of the team. He is very humble, and he will quickly adapt to Barcelona, and with he and Messi, they will be hard to beat"

Andres Iniesta was on the losing side against Brazil last Sunday, something that doesn't happen very often, and according to Coutinho, he is the 'best in the world' alongside Messi:

"He [Iniesta] is my idol. It's a pleasure to watch him play, and I like to analyse his game"

Coutinho also heaped praise on £20m-rated Anfield team-mate Daniel Agger, who is once again being linked with a move to Barcelona. He enthused:

"Daniel Agger has a lot of quality. He is very serious, and he's one of the best. It is a pleasure to play with him"

Can Coutinho make it into Brazil's squad for the 2014 World Cup? Is he good enough? Will his lack of experience count against him?

Whatever happens, it all bodes well for Liverpool. Coutinho will be desperate to play well to make the Brazil team, which hopefully means some more fantastic performances for the club next season.

He has every chance of making it to Brazil squad along with Lucas if we manage to qualify for ECL.

lucas???? first better to replace him from LFC squad and find hard tackling and game reading defensive midfielder..and coutinho have every chance of making to the world cup squad,he needs to be played through the middle rather than wide..

I def think he is good enough to make the grade and do well for brazil ESP if he keeps up the form from last season.
Although with regards to the WC-2014 I think Scolari has a rough idea on what his squad will be already and countinho will need to be outstanding to get into the squad. Which can only be a good thing for us :)

I see you're one of these people thinks that players are only worth as many goals as they score. Look at Lucas' stats for the past 3 years. He's consistently on of the best (if not thee best) passers and tacklers in the EPL and you want to replace him?

Seriously, before replying or suggesting we replace him again, look at his stats and actually watch him play.

The real challenge just begun for coutinho !
1st - he will need to prove he 1st team among other new signing.
2nd - all the team coaches know what he capable and will try to stop him.
3rd - with tremendous lot of signing this season, we might need TIME to settled (gel in) new squad.

base on performance last season he might NO PROBLEM AT ALL deal with it. I think he far ahead of oscar (chelsea)

I think he has a good chance of making it if he continues to show the same form of last season. He scores more than Oscar, assists more than Oscar so I don't see why he can't take his place in the team.

My friend you think Lucas got into brazil squad last time for fun? Plus he was in the starting 11 as a joke? Do you know how many talented brazilians there are in the whole world? For someone to be in Brazilian squad you need to give him more credit. This guy is an amazing reader of the game and his ability to break up play and protect the back four is amazing when he was at the top of his game. Does he have to be a hard tackler to succeed? Can't he just be a good tackler? As long as he gets the ball it doesn't matter how he gets it right?

Not surprised that he wasn't in Confed as it was too early, despite his form but if he keeps it up, he has a decent chance. But like someone said/implied already, Scolari probably has a good idea already of what his final squad is, so it makes it even harder for him. For example, he still persists with Hulk, despite his suspect performances at times and I don't see him being dropped for WC. Coutinho has just got to hope to be picked for a friendly and make a big impression, not just individually but also how he fits into the team set up as that is what is probably why for e.g. Hulk is still around. It isn't about whether his form is/will be better than the likes of Oscar or Hulk at club level, it is about whether he fits in well enough in the international team set up. A team don't play as well as they did against Spain and in that manner without have some sort of understanding as a team. What I like about Oscar, he is tactically adaptable in terms of how he can adapt to different tactical situations and tempos (bit like Marchisio in that regard) as well as giving breathing space for Neymar at times, which is probably one of the key reasons as to why he is in that team.

I swear they picked Kleberson for fun! ;)

ticket info anyone ,checked all the lfc sites (for man ure )and even for a package deal you have to have booked a package deal for a lesser game ,any one got genuine contacts

if he has a full season like last season for us ,his chances will soar

I think Oscar had a bigger reputation than coutinho when he came into EPL so everyone paid more attention to him. Now that coutinho has proven himself, he might have less space to operate this season, so lets see how well he operates. But I believe he has a good shot if he performs consistently. He seems more calm on the ball than Oscar and is not afraid to take players on.

he was good in most of the matches but still i feel he needs another season to settle into the team and make big impact like mata

'I see you're one of these people thinks that players are only worth as many goals as they score'

I don't think he mentioned anything about goals but maybe you have x-ray vision. If so, were you born with it or can I buy it?

BB said...

Do you mean telepathy?

X-ray vision has nothing to do with reading peoples minds... but thanks for the comment ;-)

cholop said...

That is another way of looking at it and admittedly probably a better way of looking at it but I took the route of 'how did he see through his comment to to come up with the conclusion that he is one of those so-called people', so I went with x-ray as people use it to see past the first layer or so. I didn't say or imply you were reading his mind. I meant x-ray but telepathy would be a alternative, maybe a better one. I'll put my hands up on that. Although how does one see beyond the initial layer...x-ray would be an option. A pity you aren't so forthcoming about admitting to jumping to conclusions and seeing things that aren't there with your 'I see you're one of these people thinks that players are only worth as many goals as they score' nonsense. But thanks for the deviating comment :)

BB said...

haha... after all that sci-fi babble and I'm the one deviating.

If someone comments on a defensive midfielder not being good enough when their statistics show that they blatantly are (by their tackling and passing averages per game) then I can only assume that they know very little about football and that is why I suggested that he measures players by how many goals they score. I was trying to be polite rather than stating the obvious... you have however exposed me Columbo.

Have you an opinion on the topic or do you want to simply discuss x-ray vision or some other such nonsense? If so I would recommend some star trek site.

Lucas is best... He is another xavi we need quality mid which we lack!!! Then lucas will get his credits after we get the results in our way!!!! Gerrard should play everygame and hopefully henrikh makthariyan will be that player we will lift the cup this year!!!! In brenden rodgers we believe!!! You will never walk alone!!! Navas is great signing for city!!! I always admire his capabilities!!! We need a qaulity striker if suarez goes and i like suarez but i want him to go!!! Any suggestion of name of stikers for fun???

Coutinhos dribble and passing remind me of iniesta the way hes not super fast but has amazing control and cleverness

Anybody want torres back???

Coutinho is better than Oscar IMO and he just needs game time to prove it which he didn't get at Inter Milan. I have no doubt on his quality and I am sure he'll make it to the Brazil squad.

er how was I deviating with my last comment? Your previous reply said something about x-ray in response to my initial use of it against your initial post, so I went ahead with a reply that babbled on about that as well as what my initial reply was about, which is the fella didn't say anything about goals. That isn't deviating, that is staying in line with your initial x-ray v mind reading reply and your initial comment about goals. Nice one, Clouseau.

It is nice that you have chosen to copy the word 'deviating' from me but at least know how to use it before using it yourself.

Polite? If that is what you call polite, I'm genuinely scared as to what you would call mean. Anyway, that wasn't polite, it was plain stupid and arrogant to use the goal stat-Lucas thing to belittle the poster's point, especially when there was no indication that is what he/she thinks. Belittle me all you like about my x-ray babbling but at the end of the day, your the piece of work here that belittles people by alleging things they think without anything to back it up.

Do you generally like to make up what people have said? If so go apply for a job for the rubbish that is The Sun, you would fit in well with making up quotes.

Arguments like this make me hate the internet. So Much

For Lucas I dont know , but Coutinho with perfomances he made last season he defenitely deserves a place in the brazil team maybe not as a winger but throught the middle absolutely yes he only faces competition from Oscar which I personally think he can break it.

IanP said...

Agree Benny, also agree with BB regarding Lucas though. How are people stil sniping at him??
Fair enough buy some competition for him but get rid of him ..having a laugh surely!

Nige said...

Lucas isn't shite! What a load of tosh! His job is to close down opponents, break up play and give the ball to our offensive players! If you don't know/understand a players role and value to a team's system, don't comment!

BB said...

Not sure how I got embroiled in this argument. I was only trying to make a point that Lucas is a great player and got drawn into a conversation about x-ray vision.

Nicky Brennan said...

lucas will have to stop pulling opponents shirts and time his tackles much better or be on the bench for liverpool. the competition for places in midfield next season would be strong. I would buy scott parker from spurs and play him in the holding position too if alonso wont come back, or buy a better holding player. kolo toure will be injury prone.

BB said...

I agree that we need another holding midfielder for competition/injury to Lucas, however I disagree that Parker, who can't make the grade at Spurs is the answer. Diame or a Mascherano type player is what we need IMO.

toni said...

We need to start buying class players if we are going to be challenging for the top 4. Lets be honest and admit we are not on the same level as man u man u Chelsea and arsenal. Even spurs are on a different level with the players they have and are only going to get stronger. Time to start spending on class players

Cn said...

Until we've actually seen the new signings play in red how about we reserve the judgement? That way if/when they do well you don't look like a toss! For all we know we could have just bought some world class players for next to nothing. Class players don't just play for Real Madrid and Barca, for all we know the new signings could gel first game and we end up having one of the best squads in the epl. Tottenham built their squad the same way we are building ours, buying undervalued players and developing youth. I'm hoping we manage to hold on to Luis Suarez, I'm looking forward to a Suarez Sturridge aspas fluid attacking trio with coutinho and Gerrard creating! Creative ability of all 5 are ridiculous and all have a decent eye for goal, exciting times ahead!!! YNWA
