'I talked to him' - €5m star reveals Agger encouraged Prem move. LFC loss...?

New Aston Villa centre-back Jores Okora has revealed that Liverpool defender Daniel Agger played a big part in convincing him to make the move to the Premier League.

In an interview today, 20-year old Okore - who plays alongside Agger for the Danish national team - revealed that the Reds defender encouraged to him to try his luck in England. He told the official Villa website:

"I have talked to him [Agger] a little bit about the Premier League and how tough it is to play.

"He thinks I've got the skill set for making it in this league.

"I'm hoping we can get talking before we start the season"

Okore - who reportedly cost Villa €5m - will fit right into Villa's young team, but it's definitely not a dream move for the youngster, who had his heart set on joining Chelsea. After Nordsjaelland's Champions League defeat to Chelsea in October 2012, he hailed the Premier League as 'one of the best in the world', adding:

"Chelsea are my favourite team and I would love to play for them in the future. Every player dreams of playing for Chelsea and I am no exception."

I wouldn't be surprised if Okore sees Villa as a stepping stone to achieving his dream of playing for Chelsea in the future.

Prior to the Villa move, Nikola Jurice, Okore's Agent, claimed that 'many big clubs' wanted Okore, including 'half of the Premier League', and Liverpool reportedly among them.

The Reds were linked with Okore during the last two January transfer windows, but if Rodgers really wanted the youngster, he could've used Agger to entice him to Anfield. That he (seemingly) didn't suggests that Liverpool were not that interested after all.

With the Reds in the market for a couple of central defenders, has he club missed out on a major bargain here...?

  1. I'm sorry but whoever wrote this article is a cretin. All these Kop articles are a load of rubbish. What he ACTUALLY said, is that he had the offer to play for Chelsea, on 2 occasions, but turned them both down for the villa because he thought he wouldn't get a game for chelsea. Since joining villa he's said he "feels right about the move" and that he made "the right move". NEVER has he said chelsea are a dream club?

  2. Okore hasn't talked about other clubs since joining Villa. He revealed he turned down a move to Chelsea in January as he didn't want to be a squad player or stuck on the bench. Chelsea can ruin young talent.

  4. Maybe one day he will sign for Chelsea. But we'll have less of the "Heart set" thank you very much. Chelsea bid twice for Okore and he turned them down twice. Once in January and once in the summer. He turned them down to sign for Villa.

He's signed a 4 year deal, supposedly on £15k/week. He would have known that many premier league clubs would love to sign him, and would have been willing to pay him substantially more money than that.

He's at Villa because Paul Lambert made it clear how much he wanted him, and Okore has bought into the project he is trying to put together. That's why he's not at Everton, Swansea, Liverpool or anywhere else he would have known he could be a regular in defence.

Oh and probably because Martin Laursen trumps Daniel Agger when it comes to transfer influence. Sorry about that.

  5. I don't doubt Okore's motivations for joining Villa, and I hope he does well. However, he did, as a matter of irrefutable fact, state that he wanted to join Chelsea, so if they come in for him in the future, I doubt he'll say no.

  6. 'I doubt he'll say no.' He already did, in January, twice. Okore wants first team football and he'll get it at Villa

  7. Seems to have gone quiet on CB front. See Lovren has joined Southampton

  8. The Chelsea comments were from before he signed for Villa. And he needn't worry about getting a chance to play for Chelski. All it takes is a decent half season and they'll be after him.

  9. Is it that no-one can be bothered to read anymore?

This young man said nice things about Chelsea shortly after he played against them in the Champions League. Subsequently Chelsea had a bid accepted for the player in January. The lad said no.

Chelsea then returned this summer - and still the lad said no. Not because he doesn't rate them - but because he wants to go somewhere where he will be given a chance to play with a team full of other young talents.

Okore has bought into Lambert's vision - as has Tonev and Bacuna. Young international talent keen to make a mark and be part of something.

Chelsea's - indeed most rich club's records regarding youth are woeful. The bench is not where one improves - the pitch is the place.

Usual partisan animosities aside - I think what Lambert is doing is commendable. You won't see many white Lamborghinis or 36 carat diamond earstuds round Aston way. I hope he and his young team of 'unknowns' get a taste of some success as an antidote to the awful me me me of so many superstar footballers.

  11. Haha, makes me laugh that you're having a pop at our new player for comments he made about Chelsea BEFORE turning them down TWICE by all accounts and there is no mention of recent comments by Suarez who was quoted recently as saying the following about joining Real Madrid or Spain :

"Every player aspires (to be the best) and and if you ask a child of eight years they would say one day they would go to Real Madrid or Barcelona."

I wonder if Suarez will do the same as Okore and turn down his dream club twice to play for a club that feels right??

  16. Funnily enough as Villa fan I don't read this site on a daily basis but how about focussing on the problems with your players rather than trying to cause problems for one of ours?

  17. i do not think it will cause any problems to be true

  18. on another subject i see suarez has some very encouraging words about lfc on a 101 great goals

  19. Haha if you pay attention to his statement this days it has some nice things about LFC. Maybe it because he realize that Cavani is the preferred choice of Real and his chances are getting limited!
