Great news: 'Selective' €10m star confirms he'd snub Man City for LFC transfer. Sign...?

At the beginning of April, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported Liverpool's interest in Ajax star Toby Alderweireld, and claimed that the highly-rated central defender would 'prefer' a move to Anfield this summer. Alderweireld has now given the strongest indicatio yet that a move to Liverpool is on the cards. .

In mid-April, €10m-rated Alderweireld told Dutch reporters:

"Usually I do not want to play for an English club that’s in mid-table, but, unlike Newcastle, Liverpool meet my criteria"

Speaking to Nusport about his future last night, Aldeweireld admitted that he's 'ready for a new adventure', adding:

"I'm very selective in choosing my next club. I do not want to go to Manchester City because Kompany will play forever. Liverpool, however, has the potential to return to the top"

That certainly sounds like the Alderweireld is considering a move to Liverpool, and with the Reds rumoured to be chasing £20m-rated Christian Eriksen too, perhaps a £30m double-swoop is on the cards this summer?

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars confirmed recently that Liverpool scouts are 'often present' at the Amsterdam Arena, so it's conceivable that Alderweireld and Eriksen could be major transfer targets.

Recent reports claims that Alderweireld is on the verge of moving to Roma, but there are no quotes or facts to back this up, so anything is still possible.

In 2010 - whilst Luis Suarez was still at Ajax - Alderweireld won the Ajax 'talent of the year award'. Worth a bid in the summer, or are the likes of Williams, DeVries, Sakho et al better options...?

  2. I don't see anything factual to back that up at the moment.

  3. The only reason he is saying this is because Man City and Tottenham have both stopped scouting him with reports suggesting he is too slow both physically and mentally. Eriksen would appear to be kissing the a** of Dortmund but wants to play in Spain eventually anyway. £30m would be a huge waste. i don't want either.

  4. His exact words were: "I don't want to start any rumours, but for example Liverpool has the potential to go to the top."

Obviously the same goes for Roma :-)

  5. Alderweireld directly referenced Man City in his quote, and if he wanted to mention Roma, he could have, no?

  7. He did refer to Man Citeh and said what you wrote. I wanted to point out the fact that he said he doesn't want to start rumours. On the other hand, it is the second time he directly comments about us and so have other people at Ajax so it is clear that we are interested. It could also be a way of himself and the club to alert other clubs that are like Liverpool, like Roma or Dortmund or Atletico. After all, in the same article he also says: "I want to help Ajax and not leave on a free so I am convinced we can work things out like mature adults." The more clubs are interested the better for him to pick his wages and for Ajax to set their price.

  9. We need experience, and i think hes not the same with verthongen. We do need a rock solid centre back like wisdom. Maybe wisdom should step up also kelly as right back cause johnson IS defensively POOR.

  10. He seems to read the game ok and looks physically strong, my only doubts would be that in the video clip he appeared quite slow. I'm not sure he would be able to handle the pace of the PL. None of the attackers shown in the video appears to possess the speed that he would come up against week in week out in the PL and the long passes shown to display how good a distributor he is, would easily be cut out by top defenders so would seem to give possession away easily too. Not sure this guys all that to be fair.

  11. I'm not saying we couldn't sign him if we wanted to, I'm saying it's not cut and dry just because he uses us as an example.

  12. I would prefer Douglas on a free, only 25 and has massive experience. Over 145 games in the Dutch league and over 40 European games. Another Brazilian who will play his heart out to be included in the World Cup squad for his Country.
