Jan Molby admits: I'd 'love' to see £20m attacker sign for LFC. Bad idea...?

In January, Newcastle attacker Hatem Ben Arfa admitted that he admires Liverpool, and insisted his transfer goal this summer is to 'stay in England'. Speculation over a move to Anfield has arisen again over the last few weeks, and Reds legend Jan Molby is hoping his old club can pull of a deal in the upcoming transfer window.

In his column for Eurosport last week, Molby - who also believes Christian Benteke could be a good signing for Liverpool - said:

"I've seen Liverpool linked with Hatem Ben Arfa of Newcastle. He is one of those players you look at and think to yourself: 'I'd love to get my hands on him'"

A hamstring injury has kept Ben Arfa out of the team for most of the season, but before he leaves for a new club, his main goal is to try and save Newcastle from relegation. He told The Daily Mail:

"First [before leaving], I must save my club. I only think of that. I will help my team and my coach, with whom I get along great. We really want to fight for him. The fans are great too"

As much as Molby rates Ben Arfa, he concedes that the France international's injury history is a major concern. He noted:

"There's only one problem [with signing Ben Arfa] - he is always injured. He is never a player performing at full tilt"

Liverpool face Newcastle at St. James' Park on Saturday, and Reds fans will be able to run the rule over £20m-rated Ben Arfa, who is pushing to start the game. Barcodes boss Alan Pardew told the Chronicle:

"Everyday he [Ben Arfa] is getting closer. He's worked a lot better and we are hopeful he will make an impact, whether he starts or comes off the bench."

With Newcastle interested in signing Andy Carroll, there's obviously scope for some kind of swap deal to be considered, but is Ben Arfa a player Liverpool should pursue, or is his injury history too much of a red flag?

  2. Absolutely ludicrous. An injury always lies around the corner for this guy.

  4. Some of those quotes are very old ones mixed in with new ones to make a story that is not a real story.
