£40m Suarez to leave? LFC's propaganda machine hits top gear. Desperation...?

Speculation over the future of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has intensified over the last few months, and in recent weeks, the Uruguayan has been linked with summer move to Bayern Munich. Clearly unsettled by the speculation, the Anfield propaganda machine has swung into action, with Suarez wheeled out for an interview in the hopes of nipping the rumours in the bud.

Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers recently conceded that he'll have to spend this summer rebuffing bids for Suarez, but but speaking to the official LFC site today, the Reds' top scorer insisted that:

* He 'enjoys every minute to the maximum' at Anfield, and:

* He 'would love to be able to stay' at the club as long as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

When asked specifically about his immediate future, Suarez added:

"I always say the same thing, every kid or young player growing up dreams of playing here at Liverpool, and today, here I am, highly privileged doing just that.

"It's a great opportunity that my life has presented me and for which I am very pleased.

"I'm here at a club where I always wanted to be and where I always wanted to play, and for that I'm extremely happy."

This is all well and good, and I'm sure Suarez's passion for the club is totally genuine; however, this all feels like a desperate PR exercise. Transfer rumours intensify, so the club puts Suarez in front of a camera and asks him questions they know will elicit the answers above. Indeed, earlier this week, Suarez said:

"If Bayern Munich makes an offer I would certainly be willing to listen and think about it"

If it's such a privilege to be at Liverpool, and if playing for the Reds is such a 'dream', then why would he even 'consider' offers from other clubs, especially with 4-5 years still left on his contract? Surely, Suarez should be saying that he's not interested in considering any other offers due to his happiness at Anfield? Is this such an unreasonable thing to suggest?

As I said, it's blatant club propaganda - a naked attempt by Liverpool to deflect attention away from the growing rumours about £40m-rated Suarez's future. In August 2010, the cub did exactly the same thing with Fernando Torres. At the time, rampant speculation suggested that Torres would leave, so the club stuck the Spaniard in front of the cameras for an interview, where he proceeded to wax lyrical about his apparent loyalty to the club:

"My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed. I am really happy to be back, really happy to stay with all my team-mates. I felt at home from the first day, I feel the fans love me and everyone knows I am really happy here and really happy to play at Anfield. I'm looking forward to starting the season and playing with my team-mates and for the fans"

Sound familiar? Five months later, Torres left. So, believe the propaganda if you like, but Suarez himself has repeatedly fanned the flames of speculation, and I personally have no doubt that he will be gone in the summer.

  2. Are those quotes really attributable to Suarez. For me it's hugely lazy journalism based on the fact that Suarez and Guardiola share the same agent. There's no proof Suarez said anything of the kind, and I'd be very surprised if the Guardian had the slightest notion what Pep plans to do at Bayern. BTW £40m?? not a chance, if, if he goes it'll be for £60m at least.

  3. It would be good if he left. He is certainly exciting to see on the pitch but the rate at which he misses scoring opportunities is simply too high! We have lost many games when we could have easily won had he put away 2 of at least 20 chances he easily gets every game.

He is a mercenary that will go to the biggest payer. That is the reality

    ReplyDelete
  4. He made the comments, just deal with it. Why would The Guardian lie?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I personally feel he will stay on for another season at least. Else if he hands in a transfer request the club should not think twice in selling him.If we sell him it should be for more than what we got for Torres..!

  6. geez common give the suarez saga a rest please lets just enjoy him while his here im sure Rodgers already have been lookn at potential over the past few months but for me if suarez was to leave its because of people like you that crit crit and crit!!!! damn!!! look what his done for the team already!!!!!

  7. He isn't a mercenary..He is just too good a player for a mid table team like Liverpool..#fact

  9. mm, looks like you are one of those who started the unsettling.

quote: Confirmed: Exciting £20m LFC target to 'leave this summer'. Replace Suarez

  10. You forgot the question mark on the end. You know, because it was a question, not a statement. This is what fans do: they discuss, question etc, so what is your point?

And this site 'unsettling' the club with discussion about Suarez? Get real (!)

  11. Most news sites reported Suarez gave the interview to a German newspaper Bild.

  12. I think that all those rumours, not only those including Suarez, are nothing more than desperate "PR" exercises by the media most of the time. They quote players, but more often than not twist the words a player or manager has actually said. They pose questions in a certain way, e.g. asking about Bayern in a way that, would Suarez answer differently, he'd more or less say that Bayern are sh1te (I don't claim that it was this way in this particular case, but you surely know what I'm on about).

It is possible that Suarez will seek a transfer in the summer, but it is also possible that he won't or that we can talk him into another season or whatever. Maybe you'd be happy with the club making a statement right now that, yes, there are rumours about Suarez leaving and that it might happen. We'd murder the PR people for that, wouldn't we.

  13. I posted this on an earlier thread but I'll post it here again. This is from today's OFFICIAL website:

Luis Suarez has spoken of being 'extremely happy' at Liverpool - and stated his ambition to become an Anfield legend of the stature of players such as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.
Most Recent NewsVote for February's best strikeSuarez: I'm extremely happyPics: Suarez smiles in the sunshineIbe's cracker and six Youth Cup video…Photos: Ibe double downs LeedsIn an interview with Liverpoolfc.com this week, the 26-year-old was asked if he felt like an 'honorary Scouser' after two successful years at the club.He replied: "First and foremost, I'd love to be."From the point of view of being at such a big and successful club for so long like Steven and Carra, they are players who have given so much for the club, I'd love to be able to do the same."But when it comes to speaking, the accent and the way the Scousers talk, I think it's going to be very difficult for me!"No one who saw the Uruguayan's passionate celebration following his 25th goal of the season against Zenit last week will be in any doubt as to how much the club means to Suarez. He added: "I always say the same thing, every kid or young player growing up dreams of playing here at Liverpool, and today, here I am, highly privileged doing just that."I enjoy every minute to the maximum because it's a great opportunity that my life has presented me and for which I am very pleased."I'm here at a club where I always wanted to be and where I always wanted to play, and for that I'm extremely happy."Suarez is the first Liverpool player since Fernando Torres in 2009-10 to score more than 20 goals in a season - a feat he achieved three times in Holland with Ajax.Given the standard of opposition in the Barclays Premier League, does he consider this season's form the best of his career?"I don't know if it's my best form but I do know that I continue to feel comfortable and happy in a side where my teammates help me a lot," said Suarez."That's an important thing for a player. 14. If The Guardian reproduces the comments then that's good enough for me. They wouldn't do so if they were made up/inaccurate. Everyone loves to think that newspapers are always making stuff up, but that's nonsense. Plus, they never seem to be manufacturing things when they print quotes that people actually agree with. Funny that.

  16. Do you really consider yourself a Liverpool fan Jaimie?
Is there any chance of you giving it a rest with the constant negativity towards the club.
It may be a PR stunt but why do you feel the need to slap the word desperate at the front?
There are three certanties in life. Death, taxes and reading an article every day where you are negative about the club you apparantly support.
.....cue the "I'm being subjective" response.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Your onto something here Jaimie but don't expect to get much agreement on this from many supporters.
When it was muted that Torres wanted out many fans took to the forums and said it would never happen.
The ONLY thing I'm sure about is that Ian Ayre needs to be moved on.
This man has been around all the problems at LFC ...he was there during Moores, Hicks and Gillett, ,The near bankruptcy, hiring 'Woy',hiring Comolli,Getting ,Dalglish back, sacking Dalglish, failure to tap up Martinez quietly the inabliity to handle the Evra thing corerctly, I could go on and on.
Everything that has gone badly at LFC recently this man has been behind it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I read that statement by Suarez, he did not mention Bayern Munich! he did not mention any specific club. Stop twisting words for your own report.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If lfc said nothing on the subject then you would be saying the opposite.
snookered if they do and snookered if they don't!! We all know that money drives football and if 50mill came in for Suarez, then i'm afraid we'd be watching him ply his trade at three alliance arena! What annoys me is that a liverpool Site is adding to the speculation! Surely we must take Suarez at his word until proved otherwise?! If he goes then I only hope the money from the deal is spent wisely!

    ReplyDelete
  20. The final 11 games are going to be so so important if the club wants to keep Suarez,if we can sign off on a high and finish with more than 60 points,it will go a long way in convincing him to stay.A lot of my friends who are Ajax fans say he is very loyal to the club and its fans,he only left Ajax because Liverpool was always his dream club.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Total and utter nonsense. Suarez has been linked with various clubs over the last year and not once have I criticised LFC for not saying anything. Why would I? I'm in favour of him leaving.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ChampsWinnerTraore10:56 am, March 01, 2013

No rumors he actually did say this the fact remains he's a big fish in a small pond at the minute and now big clubs will be after him in the summer due to the season where having however a good a player he is no 1 player is bigger than the club and though i dont doubt his commitment to the club he is basically saying to bayern munich come and get me i personally wont begrudge him a move but his comments about loving the club has to be put into perspective after saying what he said

I'd hate to see it but i think he will leave in the summer the and in all fairness 40 million i'd take it tomorrow to better the team all round but he wont go for 40 million now because bayern know he is interested and we wont want an unhappy player and i can see thim forcing it through as mascherano did

    ReplyDelete
  23. And you are not suggesting the same thing?!!  Only the propaganda-desperation driven conspiracy theory you are peddling suits your agenda?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree with you that this is nothing more than a PR exercise and even if he wanted to stay, will the club reject an offer of 40-50 million if somebody comes up with that figure. I doubt it very much. I am not sure the Torres comparison is a good one to use though as I believe Torres genuinely loved Liverpool and am convinced that there was something to the whole story about him being lied to by people within the club which made him consider offers from other clubs. Apparently Meireles left as he was lied to also and I am sure more will come out about this in the future. I think the rumour was that he was promised an improved deal if he did well in the 1st year. He was voted player of the year and the club apparently didn't follow up on the promise. Sorry went a bit off topic there.
I would love to think that Suarez will be with us next year but I am convinced that huge offers will come in that the club won't reject. Going to be a nervous summer for a lot of Suarez fans.

  28. You're contradicting yourself here. You said the other day that Rafa didn't rant. Nearly every paper said he did. You were happy to contradict the papers then. I agree with you re Rafa by the way, it was not a rant.

Go and get me the full Suarez interview given in Germany and publish it from start to finish. I'm sure that it doesn't read the way the headlines read. We all now how selective journalists can be. They want the attention from the headline. You use this approach in every article you write.

Why shouldn't he mean what he says when interviewed by LFC but mean what he says when interviewed in Germany?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Watch the interview on LFCTV right now, he is not faking it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think he's good at what he was brought in to do: commercial stuff (I dont know his official title). When we were going through the sale of the club he oversaw it and has been there to oversee the extra branding and commercialisation of the club eg the sponsorship with standard  chatered. However he clearly shouldnt be involved on the player side, why was he ever given that position??? The Being: Liverpool documentary showed him up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL!!!! very emotional guy i see . . shame! dude Suarez will leave in due time we all KNOW that maybe in the summer, maybe next season, maybe stay for 5 years we dont actually know lol  but lets just stick behind the team like we suppose to. The decisions is totally up to him and Liverpool board, its difficult to replace a guy like Suarez, cause you don't get a lot of players like him and the ones you do costs a lot of money! just hope they don't sell him!

    ReplyDelete
  32. "he would love to stay at the club as long as Gerrard or Carragher" well thats not long though as Carra's leaving at the end of the season...

(he probably actually meant as long as theyve been at liverpoo. ie a long time)

    ReplyDelete
  33. So what papers publish is nothing but the truth? Get me the interview in full and I bet there is nothing like the headline the Guardian has come up with.

They know this stuff will sell papers and run with it just like you know the headline on your article will attract readers. It's the nature of journalism.

Suarez will be an LFC player next season

  36. No, papers exaggerate and embellish at times, but the blanket notion that they print nothing but lies is just BS. As I said: if the press say something that conforms with the fan view, it suddenly becomes gospel, and is wheeled out as proof. If a newspaper says something that goes against the prevailing fan view, it is suddenly the devil; always prints lies; cannot be trusted etc.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yawn!
there have been no direct links to when Suarez actually said this, the Metro started this, the guardian, copied it. But where are the true sources,  he said it himself to the Metro "Apparently". There are also claims these statements were generated by a German newspaper.

Why would he then turn around and say the exact opposite, it doesn't make any sense.

haha, terrible gullible journalism. It's hilarious, how every newspaper and blog site just copy this garbage like a contagious disease. I'll be blown away when I get to read an article that isn't just regurgitated plagiarized nonsese.

  42. People are just wasting their time looking into what these guys are saying. Of course if bigger clubs playing at a higher level then Liverpool bid say £50m for any asset belonging to the club then both the player and Liverpool FC will look at the bid. People must be brain dead to think they don't. It doesn't really matter what Suarez or the manager says cos the players are assets that can be bought and sold. No way will Suarez be at Liverpool for rest of his career. He is from a different continent and owes nothing to Liverpool. He is great asset to have though and unbelievable player. Players like Gerrard, Giggs, Maldini are a rare bread in football.....

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's not what I said, hinted or suggested at all. Learn to read, then comment.

    ReplyDelete
  44. As I suggested above: if The Guardian had printed comments from Suarez saying 'I reject Bayern's interest and want to stay at LFC', would you now be questioning the provenance of the quotes? Of course not. Can't you see that? Your pro-Suarez bias is getting in the way. You don't agree with the comments (or don't want to accept they're true), so you try to find ways to discredit them.

It's always the same story: Attack the comments you disagree with; embrace those you approve of.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes lets blame loosing games on Suarez, because he is the one who should be scoring all our goals. Forget the defeneders who are meant to keep them out, or the other attackers that are also meant to contribute to scoring.

This 'mercenary' tag gets thrown around a lot, and I think its a load of tosh. If someone offered you 2 jobs, both exactly the same, except one paid double, which would you go for?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I do think it makes more sense to be cautious of what is produced by newspapers though especially when there is no evidence of any actual interview having taken place.
I prefer video evidence whether it's stuff I agree with or disagree with for obvious reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I do think the stage is set for Suarez to leave. We are not going to make Champions League, win any trophies this season, possibly not make Europa League so if he wants to leave then all those states works for him.

If we can get £45M plus for him then that's good business. Although is Agger was valued at £22M last summer (-.-) then surely Suarez is worth £50M plus! (Crazy football money)

But he's comment RE Bayern were pretty suggestive anyway. If we do sell him we must get in a another player in his mould/goalscorer. Damiao spring to mind.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree. If a transfer request is handed in then so be it. I'm sure there would be more than one suitor so we would get a fair price.
BUT.........Unless said request materialises, (and I for one very much doubt it will) then all we need to concern ourselves with is the continuation of building a challenging team; with Luis very much a part of it!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Id personally be gutted to see him leave, his talent is breathtaking at times & even if we got a good lump for him the way we have wasted money even this season would be a big concern, i hope we can bomb on for the remainder of the season & hopefully give him optimism for the future with us :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. You certainly have a point there. With the political correctness of the modern world thrust upon us in a way that, to merely fart these days, can end up with the wrong media attention.
The media themselves are extremely good at exaggerating a claim or statement to give it that extra zing. A decent headline usually does the trick of whetting our appetites. It's in our nature.
The most consistent response from the man at this moment in time has always been the same; his love and respect for the club.
I admit I am no soothsayer and in the fickle world of top end football transfers, anything is indeed possible.
He is not a Gerrard or Carragher, so some of his statements on loyalty cannot be taken as absolute. (We all know how quickly things change)
But I have seen nothing at present, to make me believe he won't be lining up for us at the start of the brand new campaign.

  55. They certainly would look at any bid made for him or any of their players, I agree.
That doesn't necessarily mean that proposal would then be finalised, based on a purely financial note.
Didn't Barcelona receive a bid for Messi that activated the ridiculous buy out clause included in his contract? He is not a local boy to them and yet still decided to stay put.

You obviously don't know much about football.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jaimie you criticise people for twisting your words or putting words in your mouth but yet again you do the same with Gano, telling him/her what they think (that they wouldn't question the veracity of the quotes if they agreed with them). How do you know that? Perhaps Gano, like many others, don't believe anything they read in the press along these lines despite the content. You're making an assumption to defend your position on the matter and in turn are trying to discredit Gano's view, particularly with your usual accusation of 'pro' this or that 'bias'. Ironic when you're accusing them of discrediing the quotes!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Once again you roll up and snipe about irrelevant things. Gano gave his view; I gave mine. Stop trying to turn it into something else.

If your sole reason for visiting this site is to bitch and moan about me, then go elsewhere. Any further comments like this will be deleted. You're welcome to discuss football, but the majority of your comments are (unwarranted) moans about me, that just clog up threads and derails the discussion about what really matters, i.e. whatever topic is being discussed. Gano is more than capable of defending his view, and he doesn't need you to do it for him.

    ReplyDelete
  62. So it's all Ian Ayre's fault. Bit simplistic that. And as far as I remember he wasn't here during the Moores ara.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Reduce the number of ' people who like liverpool-kop ' by one. I am sick to death of your negative attitude towards Saurez ! If you can stir the S.H.1 T. over the guy, you will do it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I honestly think he will leave in the summer. It is a shame as whenever we get two strikers who look like they might be good together, one leaves right away, and we go back to square one. I think Suarez is one of the best players in the Prem, and would be gutted if he left, however I don`t blame him, as we havn`t really shown any desire to win the league since he has been here, and most of the signings coming in, aren`t really of the standard needed, therefore I`m sure he will be thinking of the years he has left, and how spending them at a club which isn`t challenging for anything isn`t the best way, esp when he could prob move to 50% of the title winning teams in the world. I`m sure he does love the club, and I`m sure he does enjoy it here, but sometimes that isn`t enough, just look at Alsono, he still goes on about how much he loved it here, but he left, as he was offered more money, and medals at one of the worlds best clubs (dispite Rafa trying to sell him season before, he left season after, so doesn`t have to relate 100% to that fact).

So while I will miss Suarez, every player can be replaced, and if we get 40mil for him, and use it well, we could look better as a team after. 40mil could buy us a new top striker for 25mil, and still leave 15mil for a top top CB, or even another striker. In theory him leaving could mean we end up stronger as a team, and while we will miss his talents, every player can be replaced. When Torres left, I remember thinking, we will never replace him, but that same window, we signed a player who was playing better in Suarez. In Jan we signed Sturridge, who looks like he could score even more that Suarez, so there are players out there who can be found. The key, is BR using the cash well, and not signing below standard players.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I thought he had a 40mil buy out clause? I do agree with everything else you said.

    ReplyDelete
  66. interesting take. The Messi thing though; he was brought up through there youth system, so might feel more loyal, and in fairness any move would be a step down, or just sideways.

There is though, like you said more to it than just cash in, there is also sponsorship deals to be made from having world stars, and shirt sales, and fan support. So much more to a deal than just the offer.

I agree that any club would at least listen to offers for any player over £40mil, even Man City. Man Utd sold Ronaldo, who was prob the best player in the world at the time. It is also worth looking at how much stronger a team could be, if they used the 40mil to buy new players. You can strengthen a few areas with that sort of cash. Maybe your team wont have the same world class player, but might have two or three almost world class players in place of him, just from the money made, and that can sometimes make a bigger difference. Very rarely does a club win the league with just one world class player/very good player. Look at Michu, he has been amazing this year, but are Swansea close to winning the league? nope, close to fourth? nope. It`s a team game, and if we got a good striker in, and a right sided attacker, or new DM or CB or any combo of them for the cash from selling Suarez, we might do better next season than this.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm of the impression that he was able to convince the owners that because he was born and bred LFC, he knew what he was talking about.

Commercialization and player management are two totally separate subjects.

He has a nice motorcycle though :)

  68. Play out this situation:

Let's assume for a moment that Suarez wants absolutely 100% stay here and LFC want Suarez to absolutely 100% stay here. Now let's say Bayern comes in and offers 50m to LFC and double Suarez's pay.

    1. Would you take it if you were LFC?

    2. Would you take it if you were Suarez?

    3. Would you accept it or turn it down as a fan?

  69. Suarez won't leave because of people who question him.  Quite frankly, I don't think he'd really care of a group of fans were discussing him.  I think he'd only care if the vast majority of LFC fans were against him at the games. And that's certainly not the case.

Suarez would leave because he can make more money elsewhere. Not because of fan sentiments.

    ReplyDelete
  70. (1) First of all let's be realistic. Chances are that Suarez never actually dreamt of playing for Liverpool as a kid. He might have had other clubs more popular to people in Uruguay to support. Got to realize that everybody says they supported Liverpool as a kid when they are interviewed because it sounds good. He will also say that he supported Bayern as a kid if he goes there because it sounds good to the fans.

    (2) Showing photos of Luis Saurez sharing a laugh with his manager does in no way mean he is really happy. All it actually means in the grand scheme of things is that he has a sense of humor. Sure i can find photos of Torres sharing a laugh with Liverpool Spanish contingent in Anfield at the time or other players in general .Guess what he left the club anyway because he was not happy.

Anyone with a camera in his face can say anything because they know that they got desperate Liverpool fans hanging on their everyword. If Saurez wanted to leave he wouldn't tell the media he would keep it in house and one day make a transfer request. That's how these things are done. Quoting his comments only makes you feel better but won't change the price of tea in China should he decide to leave. If and when that happens trust me you the public will be the last to know until he has taken the first steps towards leaving.

  72. But it is exactly the same wording that was used in an interview with a Spanish magazine a week or so earlier in which he was talking about a new deal with Liverpool. This makes me think that  a lot of journalists have just used this after noting the link of Suarez's agent being Guardiola's brother.
I do not mean to refute what you have said Jaimie but maybe all fans are pandering to whichever side suits them best.

  75.  To quote Denzel Washington in Training Day "This is a newspaper right?"  *points to paper* "It's 98% b***sh*t".
So yeah, there is always 'some' truth but a lot of embellishment. I don't know the exact quotes Suarez made during the actual interview, but I'm pretty sure we haven't heard his 'exact words' or the last of this saga either. Personally I think he will stay, I know you want him to go Jaimie, but i think he'll still be here next season.

    ReplyDelete
  76. He'll be gone in the summer. It's a good thing as we'll be rid of one more cheat in the club. Plus, the club will survive - it always does.

  79. Luis Suarez might retire at Liverpool or his agent who happens to be Gaurdiola's agent as well might convince him to go to Bayern. We can speculate all we want till we are blue in the face or the cows come home to graze. The facts remain that the only person who ultimately knows if Luis Suarez will leave is Luis Suarez. The fact that Liverpool is a giant in name only is something that won't be lost to Suarez. He might appear to be content at a club that is no longer able to challenge for major honors for now but we all know that the call of a bigger club capable of offering champion's league football is might be a temptation that would be too hard to resist.

Gerrard is recognized for his incredible loyalty to Liverpool and is always respected for being a one club man. Suarez on the other hand is not tied to Liverpool in the same manner. If anyone can remember back a couple of years when Mourinho was still at Chelsea he tried to tap up Gerrard and was almost successful in his endeavor. Gerrard scared a lot of the Liverpool faithful but ultimately signed on to remain with Liverpool. Saurez  is not in my opinion a one club man and will at some point in time decide that he misses playing against the top clubs in Europe. Someone will eventually tempt him and break Liverpool hearts everywhere. It is only a question of time.

Smart thing for the Liverpool manager to do is to pretend that Suarez is already gone and bring in the type of player with the right type of confidence in their own abilities and a leader on the pitch who will also be able to provide another creative outlet for our attack. We depend on Suarez far too much.

Posting a photo online of Luis Saurez enjoying a laugh with his manager doesn't tell me if he is really happy or not at Liverpool it only tells me that he has a sense of humor. I am sure that if i searched the web i can find photos of Torres laughing with Liverpools Spanish contingent at the time or just other players in general.

Bottom line is that no one can ever measure a players true happiness at a club. Ronaldo was really happy at United or so everyone thought. He'd won everything with them but one day decided that he wanted to play for another club. Suarez won't retire at Liverpool he will leave just a matter of time.

  80. I absolutely agree with you.
I just can't help hoping that Suarez is a fan too!

  81. Typical response from you Jaimie, I find it amusing you're so predictable. As I said you bleat on about your views and alleged persecution, as if you're the only person who is right and you are 'educating' everyone else who are 'incapable' of seeing your view. You patronise people, label them (as weve already discussed) in an attempt to discredit them. Ironically you cannot accept people having a different view despite accusing others of the same thing. You have a victim complex with the constant 'nobody agrees with me' and 'can you comprehend that I have a different view to you' rubbish which indicates you actually revel in it, to the point you are deliberately obstinate. The fact is you are too unintelligent to debate without resorting to aggressive name calling and when challenged simply moderate, delete or accuse the poster of 'sniping', ironically you would be banned from your own site if you applied the same house rules to yourself. The fact you don't and openly admit it completely undermines you and your opinion. I find it embarrassing that you bully people into accepting this behaviour, to the point you get sickening sycophantic posts telling you how great you are and apologising for invoking your ire. I bet you love that. I'm clearly not that type of character so there is no need to ban me, I have no intention of visiting the site again. You may delete this post but the fact you have read it has made my point. I hope you realise your attitude will be the end of this website as you insult, scare off, ban new posters and you must realise that almost all the comments on the threads are made by the same few people which doesn't take long to get boring. Enjoy!

  83. Sweet, sweet irony.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I can't or won't disagree with anything you say there as being wrong, as it's a totally valid point throughout.
In my opinion though, I see more benefit in keeping him, as his partnership with Sturridge can improve immensely, (which is only good!) Coutinho hopefully goes on a right one and improves our attack even more, (again benefitting Suarez and positively increasing his performances.)
By making the correct additions to our midfield would link them more fluidly, bridging our attack and defence, (where i believe by the way, a big hole exists making it easy for opposing teams to attack us in our half, then putting added stress on an already too deep defence).
That would again lead to a benefit for Suarez, especially if he is played as our attacking midfielder through the middle. He has played there and to me looked at his best. (not to everyone's liking though I'm sure!)
And finally, strengthening the defence would help prevent so many leaked goals, in turn making the goals our attack scores, more important. Again, only good as far as Suarez is concerned. A massive benefit to the team as a whole.
These additions should not be beyond our club financially and should absolutely not require us to sell such an asset to fund any of these deals.
That model leaves us WITH a world class player and strengthened in the areas needed, with very good players/ potential world class.
That way also leaves no excuses towards expecting a much improved challenge for next season. No if's and's or but's. Everyone will be clear of the objectives which would surely demand CL and hopefully COMMAND it.......
Selling Suarez if there is no need, is imo, a huge mistake!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Nothing ironic about it all. When I say 'opposing views', I'm referring to football opinions, not moaning about things related to the person. Someone view of me as 'negative' has nothing to do with my view on Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  86. But, Jaimie, this is exactly what you want our players to be like!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Good points, mate, but when people start hurling abuse and slagging the guy (Jaimie) off for putting up these talking points and making his own views clear, it gets a bit tiresome.

I'm not defending Jaimie here, just pointing out that if (alleged) adults can't put a view across without having to resort to petty name calling and spitting the dummy out, maybe they should go back to crayons and cotton wool.

I don't agree with everything posted on this site but I don't go all mental either when he posts something I don't agree with.

    ReplyDelete
  88. At the end of the day Luis has never shown the slightest inclination to leave, If that changes then fine but until then i believe nothing from any media outlet.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Agreed.  The venom that people spew at each other is ridiculous.

The shame is that some people actually make good points in the arguments but their argument goes out the window because they are uncivil.

    ReplyDelete
  90. In Jaimie's defense, the players are employees of the club.

They should be toeing the company line or not saying anything at all.

For instance, it's wrong for Skrtel who openly accuses the manager of misleading him.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Why?

If reports are to be believed, an unnamed Russian club activated Messi's buy out clause (thought to be £220m) in the summer (but it could have been January) and offered him a reported £450k/week.

Now, it's well known that Barca have financial problems (hence the 1st shirt sponsorship deal in the club's history), so, £220m for ONE player then have his salary wiped off the wage bill - reported to be around £12m/year for the next 6 years, making it worth £290m.

Ok, before the floodgates open with the "Suarez isn't Messi" or whatever. Suarez is, arguably, as important to Liverpool as Messi is to Barcelona. Maybe not in the merchandising sense but definitely on the field. We'd be struggling in the bottom half of the table this season without him.

So, why would we even want to sell him and why would he want to go?

    - Suarez has said (today) "I want to be a legend at Liverpool"

    - Suarez is the club's top goal scorer and main driving force of our attack

     - Sturridge has just arrived and has, so far, built a formidable partnership with Suarez which would be crazy to break; no matter how much we get offered for him, as a player of Suarez' calibre will be almost impossible to find, especially with the club's new transfer policy and with the lure of Champions League football looking unlikely.

    - Suarez has a young family and they appear to be settled here. I've seen the video of his daughter singing our club's anthem - would you take that away from your kid?

Whatever happens in the summer, it's going to happen in the summer. This is March and, until the summer, there's no point in getting one's knickers in a twist about something that may or may not happen. We, as supporters, can do nothing about it either way so that's even more of a reason not to get stressed out about it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. just clueless and gormless.

  93. what a load of press bullsh#te, music to some peoples ears though, believe what you want to believe.
but jk you will be writing headlines about suarez in a red for at least the next 3 years +..................and that's a fact.
next season will be an improvement on this year by some way, 2 new centre backs which would be harder to be worse than the ones we have.
another striker. and possibly more. yanks wont balls up again like last time.
everton and spurs will be weaker, losing there best players.
    delusional ????...................i don't care,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,could happen !!!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think he means loyal, per Suarez's comments to the LFC channel.

He's probably thinking of stuff like when you've criticised Reina for public declarations of wanting to leave, and has inferred that this is the sort of behaviour you want from players.

    ReplyDelete
  95. It does have something to do with your view on Suarez.

If you are overly negative, it stands to reason that your views will be equally so.

In this sense, characterising your work in a certain fashion (in this fella's case as 'negative'), leaving aside whether it is fair, suggests that your views on this topic are subject to your general negativity.

It isn't ad hominem to consider the person arguing, as long you don't say stuff like 'you would say that because you're a manc in disguise', or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  96. One thing you left out of that Messi point is that his father (who is also his agent) said that he didn't want to go because of the weather, the language barrier, and the unnamed club's bleak prospect at playing in international competitions.

Don't get me wrong; I want Suarez here.  I don't want him to leave.  I was merely trying to take what I consider to be a realistic view of the circumstances given the recent advances of interest from Bayern and how the club might react.

It's not stressful. It just is what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Every view I have on Suarez is legitimate, and backed up with reasoing, and often, hard fact. It's not like I just roll up and say 'Suarez is a c**t.' If I did that, then people could moan.

I criticise him for legitimate things: cheating, diving etc, and people can't hack that because it conflicts with their view of what constitutes a fan.

Moaning about me being negative about Suarez is irrelevant; if people disagree, argue against my POV. To keep going about being negative despite the fact the points being raised are valid, is ad hominem, as it it is not focusing on the substance of what is actually being discussed.

    ReplyDelete
  98. You know what? Although I don't like what you are saying due to what it actually represents; it is probably the most honestly, real thing someone has said regarding this whole matter.....
(Still, I would like to continue believing in the humility of some......)

    ReplyDelete
  99. I've quoted what the player has said, whether he meant 100% of it, only he knows. You can draw your own conclusions and I'll (optimistically) come to mine. As stated in my more recent post above, I'm confident that he will stay and gave my reasons for coming to such a thought. I understand your skepticism too as we've seen it all before with myriad of players. Let's just keep our fingers crossed he stays, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  100. If he stays long enough for us to give him the success and platform to play at the highest level, then who indeed knows? He might find he likes it right where he is after all........
Btw, I believe if he stays this summer, then the CL platform will be his the following year.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I honestly believe most of what you say WILL happen.
    It has to..........?

    ReplyDelete
  102. My point was on the "tow the company line" comment you made. You're a vehement opposer to anything untoward in football from any Liverpool player, whether they be bending the rules or whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Fair point!

It gets my goat when players do this and it's happening more often.

    ReplyDelete
  104. You're going to give yourself an ulcer!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Keyboard Commandos, mate, very similar to road rage participants and people who get handy after a shandy!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yeah, some things are more important than money, after all, he's minted already and has probably another 10 years at Barca.

It's good when a player sticks to morals and doesn't turn mercenary, unlike Eto'o who went there, he's reportedly on £330k/week.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Did you read the comments from the Utd fans?

    ReplyDelete
  108. It isn't necessarily ad hominem because these incidents you refer to as being worthy of criticism (diving, cheating etc.) are in some cases debatable.

As such, if people are arguing you are inherently negative, then the implication is that you will see questionable instances in a negative light.

For example, everyone can agree that Suarez's dive against Stoke was ridiculous. Others aren't so simple. The handball against Mansfield is a prime example. Opinion on this was genuinely split and not just across club lines.

Some people definitely wont accept any criticism of Suarez. They'll make non-points like 'why criticise him? he's carrying the team' but too often I feel you resort to the 'sorry I don't follow the crowd, like you sheep' type response as a reflex. It is as intellectually shallow as someone just calling you negative all the time. Crucially though, both responses (alleging negativity, alleging mob mentality) both have their place as reasonable arguments, but both can be glib and often frivolous stock responses.

    ReplyDelete
  109. There's a big difference between surviving and thriving and, I believe, if we can keep the Suarez & Sturridge partnership for a good few years and build up a good support and supply system behind them, then this club we all support will thrive again.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Dude, the way the team plays when it's on song; if we can get that level consistently, then we'll be title contenders.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Brilliant post, mate!

    ReplyDelete
  112. You may see it like that, but there's the history element to consider. I only tend to respond to people like when there's a long history of them bitching about negativity. I wouldn't say that to a newcomer on the site, it's usually just the same posters keep turning up saying the same thing over and over again.

    ReplyDelete
  113. That's an awfully negative way of looking at things :P

Fair enough I suppose, I can't vouch for whether you have previous with people or not, so I'll leave it be.

    ReplyDelete
  114. That could be possible but also, not having Suarez does not mean the club won't thrive again.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Jaimie Kanwar must be the bloody mother-in-law then !

    ReplyDelete
  116. The media don't only exaggerate things, they even invent things to create headlines.

Suarez surely doesn't play like someone who's fed up with his current club. So, I agree with you that there's nothing that makes me believe that he won't line up for us this time next year.

Even Gerrard was close to moving away (and Perry got the blame for that).

    ReplyDelete
