'I'll compare options' - €6m star who had 'contact with LFC' plans summer move. Bid...?

In February, Ajaccio goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa claimed that his Agent is 'in contact with Liverpool' over the possibility of a summer move to Anfield, and this week, the Mexican made it clear once again that he wants to move to a different league.

Liverpool made a €6m bid for the Mexican International during the January transfer window, and in an interview last week, the 27-year old stopper told Reporters:

"My agent had contact with Liverpool, and I hope this summer there will be some offers. There is no doubt, though, that this is a dream I have had since I came to Europe".

Speaking to Mercato365 on Thursday, Ochoa - nicknamed 'Memo' - by the his team-mates" - reiterated again his desire to move this summer. He noted:

"My future? I think about finishing the season in the best possible way, then I will compare options. However, I cannot deny that I would love to play in other leagues. I want to develop and join a major project."

Ochoa also claims that most of the top clubs in Europe are interested in signing him:

"It will be difficult to choose between Liverpool, Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, Bayern, Dortmund. It depends on how everything happens, I'll then choose the best one regarding all aspects"

In January, Ochoa's agent, Jorge Berlanga, admitted there is genuine interest in his player from numerous clubs. He told So Foot:

"Many clubs are interested in Memo, and they have been watching him, but we are still at the stage of rumours"

In a recent interview, Ajaccio President Alain Orsoni confirmed that Ochoa is worth 'five or six million euros' , and revealed that several clubs had made bids for the Mexican. He told the Ligue One club's official website:

"Foreign clubs are interested in Memo, but that is normal. He's great goalkeeper and a great man. We will study bids and decide at the end of the season"

Liverpool definitely fits the description of a 'major project' at the moment, and it's one that is gathering pace, and I'm sure lots of quality players across Europe will want to be part the Reds march back to greatness.

The question is, if Ochoa - who signed a three year deal with Ajaccio in 2011 - such a 'great' goalkeeper, why are they apparently willing to let him go only two years into the contract?

It could, of course, be solely down to the player. After all, with all due respect, Ajaccio are not the biggest club in Europe, and Ochoa probably wants to ply his trade at a more high profile club (or just wants a big pay rise!)

In an interview a few years ago, Ochoa revealed that former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel is a big inspiration. He told FIFA.com:

"Peter Schmeichel, without a doubt. He was amazing. He could stop everything that came his way. He was always someone I wanted to emulate. The funny things is, though, I've become a completely different keeper to him"

Would Ochoa dislodge Reina? Would he just be back-up?

  2. it doest matter whose in goal if allen is sitting in front...lol really the goal keeper is the least of our problems,,carra is retiring and rogers and skirtel have fell out...we need defenders and world class ones at that .....and a world class forward as i cant see suarez sticking around if we keep getting trounced by relegation fodder

  3. Getting Diame from west ham for £3.5m would be an absolute steal,Hes exactly the type of player we need against the likes of Southampton

  5. Allen is our talisman... :P
That makes our midfield crumble to pieces each time he plays... Hendo worked so hard in his last matches, he must be wondering wtf is going on here and what he must do to get a start over BR's golden boy...

  7. what disturbs me is why no one questions how you can go from having the 3rd best defence and people throwing money at you for your defenders to having a defense like swiss cheese

  8. allen is, sadly, being played out of position as a holding midfielder,, thus far i dont understand him being called upon rather than perhaps Henderson, who is far better suited physically for Southampton. Clearly showed that Gerrard had to step further back when Allen was on the pitch. My problem is, where to fit Allen in the team, given him being fully fit.

  10. I don't know what point you are making.
He is only 27, which is especially young for a GK.

  11. This guy has pulled off some of the most spectacular and athletic saves I've ever seen and his shot stopping is amazing. I haven't seen enough of him to judge the rest of his game (play with his feet is now a factor under BR) but I'm suspicious no-one else has fancied him until now.
The fact he is only 6ft tall is a bad start for a Premiership goalkeeper.

  12. Steve Clark may have been a factor in that, but our back line has never been good, this year they've been found out

  13. We certainly need a new goalkeeper. Reina needs some serious competition. If someone offered us £10-12M for Reina I think we would let him go. Considering he is on a reported 90-100K per week *pukes a little*
