'I need to be playing' - LFC want unhappy £12m star who 'adores' the Prem. Bid...?

With Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season, and the Martin Skrtel/Daniel Agger partnership failing to convince, Liverpool clearly need defensive reinforcements in the summer. In recent weeks, Ashley Wiliams and Fernando Amorebieta have been linked with possible transfers to the club, and now, Paris St. Germain star Mamadou Sakho is the latest central defender to be linked with a move to Anfield

In an interview this week, Sakho publicly bemoaned his lack of playing time at PSG, and warned that he will leave unless he gets more pitch time. He said:

"I need to be playing week in, week out. I cannot accept playing just a few minutes this season and next because this is a decisive moment in my career. At the end of the season I will sit down with my agent and club officials and clear up the situation. If I have to leave PSG to keep my place in the France national team, then I have no choice but to leave."

When asked specifically about the possibility of a move to Arsenal or Liverpool, he said:

"I adore the English Premier League."

The arrival of Thiago Silva at PSG has turned Sakho into a bit-part player at PSG, and with World Cup 2014 on the horizon, it seems clear that the France international is worried about losing his place in the national team.

Newcastle are also reportedly interested in signing the £12m-rated defender, and with their huge French contingent already at the club, Liverpool could have some stiff competition for his signature in the summer.

Worth a bid?

  1. Hmm, interesting timing as he has been playing regular football of late, since Alex & Thiago Silva picked up injuries in the recent months. Started a majority of PSG's league games since early Dec. They haven't conceded a single goal in those games.  Like I said in another thread a while ago, PSG would be silly to let go of a talent youth product who is slowly but surely, maturing, as they barely have any youth graduates in their squad and it would be a pity lose some of that Parisian identity in the midst of this new chapter for the club. Still a bit raw but would definitely like to see him here. Would offer a full back option too as well as centre back. Seems his contracts runs out in 2014. So its a big summer coming up for him.

  3. Way we are playing- cl is not so unrealistic. If we get some response from our defense and with fixtures ahead not that hard, we can pull 8-3-2 or 9-2-2 or 9-3-1 record till the end with wins vs Totenham and Everton being crucial.
Totenham will take 3 today and 1,2 or 4  vs West Ham and Arsenal and we will beat them later on- 9 points difference before today.
Everton will surely take less than 9 in next three vs manu Reading and Norwich, and we will beat them later- 6 points difference.
Arsenal will take hopefully 4 or 5, maximum 7 vs Villa, Sunderland and Totenham in next three games-5 points difference.
All of them(almost) have games amongst themselves and top 3 clubs.
With 2 home wins in a row(don't tell me we can't do it), Wigan away and a first win against our direct opponent afterwards(it won't be easy, but it is time to make one), we're there.
Either, or both wins vs Arsenal and City would mean so much, but it is still achievable.
    Keep the faith...

  4. I would like to see some of our own raw talent be given a chance before spending big money on imports. We've also never really had any luck with players from France in the past.

  5. Shakho is really unfortunate in PSG.  He is easily the best young CB from France & led almost every French National Youth teams (U16 to U21).  Apart from Technical skills & Physical presence (he is 6'2", probably around 180 LBs, pure muscle & bone), he is outstanding in air & extremely quick.  Highly reputed for is leadership quality, he led PSG in a League 1 Match at 17.

I don't think he is upset for his game time, rather he is not happy with the treatment he is getting.  He was a regular starter (& Captain) for PSG since 20 & also became almost regular French International; until Ancelotti came & bought 2 of his old purchase for obnoxious amount (Silva for 35mn & Alex for 16mn) & benched Shakho.  Despite PSG struggling at back line (they lost & drew the first 4/5 games with Silva-Alex pairing), Ancelotti kept Silva-Alex pairing.  Injury forced Shakho to starting line up & PSG looks so much solid now.

French League players are highly under-rated in England, but often they provide the best value for money.  Shakho is a perfect CB for English League & at 22, he can serve his next club for a decade at highest level.  He is highly rated in French football & somewhere I read that he is expected to lead host France in Euro '16, for his outstanding leadership quality.

However, I don't expect LFC to go for him when we have great Showcross to buy for 20mn+.  Shakho 'll be playing for Arsenal, Juve or either of the Milan giants, even may be in either of the Spanish giants - he is that good.  Or he 'll stay at PSG, if Carlo is sacked (He 'll be, if PSG again fails to win League 1).

  6. sakho at 22 year of age, with his ability, reading of the game, pace(not common with CB) and leadership skills would be the perfect addition for the FSG policy. at around 6-8m this would be an absolute bargain. he is still 5 years of the age of skrtel(5 years would see a massive development in his game) and he is not too far off skrtel in terms of quality if not the same.

i also think we should look into making bids for romelu lukaku who is 19, 6 ft 3 and is not going to be given a chance at chelsea despite his quality(similar to sturridge) certain players need the right platform to develop and show what they can do and at west brom, for a 19 yr old his stats are pretty astonishing. age of 15-18(still a school kid) he managed 41 goals/14 assists in 98 games. chelsea stunted a year of his development giving him only 12 games for the whole season but for west brom has managed 9 goals/2 assists in 21 league games. this is a 19 year old, who is 6 ft 3 :O. chelsea will likely let him leave for around 10-12m. we should sell fabio borini and seriously look into this transfer. he's best years are far ahead of him and a big resale fee could be there in 3-5 years.

also should aston villa be relegated i think we should make a bid for christian benteke. at 22 and 6 ft 3, i think he would a excellent addition. pace, skill, incredible strength, great movement, height and a powerful shot are just some of his attributes and he is clearly on a complete different level to his teammates at villa. hes having a great season at villa, scored some spectacular goals and for around 7-8m is a bargain. he is also belgian like lukaku and the two can really bully centre backs out of games. most top premier league contenders have four good strikers of the right kind of mix, sheer quality-suarez, raw pace-sturridge, complete bullys-benteke and lukaku. rodgers will be able to rotate depending on form between lukaku, benteke and sturridge and im sure he will be given a real headache as neither will dissapoint. these are 4 players with incredible self-confidence. and with suarez likely to leave the season after next, its vital we develop some other strikers.

  9. Skrtek and Agger has been fine for nearly 18 months!!! Carragher is in the team for his leadership skills because we are a bit lightweight and any phsical team regardless of the division (Oldham/Mansfield) can totally bully us off the pitch. We could do with a new Graeme Souness/Steve Mcmahon type. Or even dare I say it a Roy Keane (i'm an Ireland Fan so please excuse the fact I mentioned a Manc :-)

  10. Forgot to say Sakho???? Why do we need that shite? He can't even get in his current club team. Skrtel in comparison is an absolute beast, just think back to how he played for Slovakia in the last major tournament, he kept them in games almost on his own and Agger is absolute class. It the lack of a physical presence in midfield that is putting pressure on the defence too many Joe Allen types who can be brushed aside. Great footballer but we need an allrounder with a physical prescence pace power strength and a will to win (Grame Souness type)

  11. diame would be perfect

  12. Sakho is left footed so if you look at the balance of the team, he wouldn't necessarily replace Skrtel would he? However he would be a great signing. Alas so would have Sissoko at £2M! I don't trust us to unearth these complete 'no brainer' transfers. Michu was another one. So much wasted money. We aren't loaded like the other 'big' clubs, yet we waste it all too often for me when better deals are to be had. Hopefully this will change

  13. I liked Sakho whenever I watched him play. I think he is a big player, but maybe he is too similar to Agger in terms of being a left footed player who likes to play the ball. He is actually much better in terms of aerial abilty, but maybe not as good at reading the game as DA.
I would like him to come for competition, but we need a leader in defence, someone like Hummels.

  14. Sama, Wisdom, Kelly. Surely one of those 3 will make it at CB?
