'We'll look at offers' - LFC chase exciting £10m Primeira Liga goal-machine.

Despite the recent signing of Daniel Sturridge, it's clear that Liverpool still lack regular goalscorers in the team, and with Fabio Borini unlikely to become a prolific striker for the club, Brendan Rodgers will probably be forced to buy another striker during the summer transfer window. There are sure to be plenty of options available, and the latest striker linked with a possible summer switch to Anfield is Sporting Lisbon goal machine Ricky Van Wolfswinkel.

According to Reports in Italy today, Liverpool are monitoring the 23-year old striker. This follows a Sky Sports report in January, which stated:

"Van Wolfswinkel has been linked with a move to England and the Premier League for some time with the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle all credited with an interest in the player".

€10m-rated Van Wolfswinkel is defintely interested in moving to the Premier League, and he confirmed this in an interview last summer. He told Reporters:

"I know that a lot of Dutch players play in England. It's a really good competition and I do see it as a step to take maybe in the future, but we will see about that when it happens".

In an interview at the end of January 2013, the striker's Agent, Louis Laros, also suggested that a move away could be on the agenda. He told Soccer International:

"He [Van Wolfswinkel] is not seeking a transfer right now, but there are many interested clubs. He has a contract for 3.5 years, but if the club [Sporting] agrees, we will look at offers".

In January, Norwich City boss Chris Hughton confirmed that the Canaries are also intersted in the player. He told Reporters:

"Yes, I have seen those reports on him and there is an interest from ourselves but how far that interest has gone from us I don't know. But certainly there is an interest."

Van Wolfswinkel has grabbed 37 goals in his first season and and a half in Portugal, including 20 goals in 40 league games, a record of Viable option for the summer...?

  5. Haha when I read the title I just knew the article had to be about him. He's no goal machine, often injured and in no way better than Sturridge.

  8. He will be there next season, and if he doesn't bring in 3 experienced players he won't be for long

  9. He could even view Norwich as a bigger club than us at this rate ;P

  11. No matter who we sign it won't solve the problem if the team doesn't gel up well. I think BR should build a team chemistry with the team now rather than keep on buying new player which solve the problem for a while.

  12. Rodgers should be sacked.  We are 9th! 9th!! would 9th be accepted under King Kenny or Rafa?  No, we would be up in arms.  The reason the fans are so patient is because of the football Brendan is trying to play.  But every team needs to be more direct.  United, Chelsea, City, they all play counter attacking, direct football.  The tiki taka stuff comes once they are in control of the game with a 2-0 lead.

Liverpool need to play more fluently and with more pace in their play.  Teams can sit back, let us pass it around for 80 mins and then score two goals and we lose the game.  Is it really that great that we can stuff Norwich at home?

Time for a bit of realism and thats liverpool are going to pot.

  13. is it the truth tho Jas? by your own admission, Rodgers is only here cause he is a yes man, so do you really think FSG will get rid of him?

I`m not sure. If we keep not getting results, then I for one would be pretty p1ssed off if they didn`t sack him.

Which brings me to my next point. Do you really trust FSG to get in a good manager, if they did sack BR. Apart of me feels they wont, so I`m just as worried about what will happen if they did sack him, as if they didn`t.

    Bad times.

  14. agree m8 fsg have a ot to answer for

  15. but if he performs like this season he will do enough damage to wreck another season

  16. who knows he may well think they have more ambition

  17. I'd have Leandro Damaio over RVW-W. We need a bit more flair to compliment Suarez up front. Sturridge is good and he plays well alongside Suarez but, like the Gerrard - Torres partnership, they can't do it all on their own.

I'd also love to see Alonso back at Anfield in the summer. His passing on Wednesday night was lethal.

  18. I try to stay positive, but there is a big part of me that thinks, maybe I have just slipped into accepting such a mediocore league position. I`m not so worried about cup games, as even the worlds best managers have slip ups in them, but in terms of the league, I find myself going "were getting there" like we used to be rubbish, but we didn`t. We may not have won the league for 20 years, but we have challenged and also made a lot better efforts. With each season that goes by, I`m starting to look at us like mid table club, who is happy that our players are of ok standards, and if we hit 6th.

I get no CL, makes it harder, but it is still possible, neither spurs or Arsenal are that much better than us, in terms of players, so it wouldn`t be to much of a stretch to think that if the right man was in charge, signing the right players, we would at least be close to getting a CL spot.

I can live with not getting it, but ending the season over 10 points off it, and nearly 30 points of winning the league I just can`t, no matter how much I may like Rodgers football style.

I`m hoping that at least by the end of the season we will be nearer that fourth spot.

When we play teams like Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea, I actually feel nervous before the game, as I don`t know if we will win them.

  19. nobody knows what lfc will do any game they must have earned the bookies a fortune this year so up and down its unbelievable, mostly down as the season as panned out:-(

  20. Arsenal and Spurs have much better players than us and a stronger bench as well. The only think we have in common with Liverpool is they too have been inconsistent but to a lesser extent that's why they are above us in the League.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I disagree, I don`t think either team is that far ahead, they are better, but not by miles, it is just we under perform.

Chelsea, Utd and City are way ahead, and therefore I can`t see us catching them for a few years at least, but Spurs and Arsenal, aren`t that far.

Arsenal have a better team than Spurs. If you took Bale out of Spurs, they would look weak. Which just goes to show how much difference a manager can make. Arsenal have a better team than spurs, yet spurs are ahead of them.

  22. Pass it around for 80mins and create plenty of chances playing below par whilst the opposition has no shots at all! Rodgers' way will work. You need to give him time and get behind the team.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You've got a short memory. Hodgson's team was far worse. You can't tell me that we don't create more clear cut chances than most teams we play and play attractive footy these days. You've also got the practical issues of paying off Rodgers, buying a new manager and the new players he'd want.

Rodgers will be here long term and I for one am glad he will be!

  24. He is definitely a good option alright.
I think everyone needs to get off this sack Rodgers buzz.He should be backed by the owners in the summer transfer window and judged on how he does next season.
A manager needs at least a season to assess his squad and decide what players are holding the team back from progression and who could  help fix that problem.
I think Sturridge and Coutinho are going to be a big improvement to the team and a few more good signings will make a huge difference for next season.Alonso should be a priority for starters we have enough young players coming through and what we need badly is a bit of steel in this team and some experienced world class players
FSG need to give up on this trransfer policy of only signing young players what we need is to sign the RIGHT players.

  25. they have shown with roy and kenny they will sack ...like ive said if the wheels start coming off and i think they will its adios rogers...we will leak goals that just a fact with the players and system we play...

    ReplyDelete
  26. fsg wont sanction  older players so its bye bye BR

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree jase if we get beat by swansea he will be in deep water

    ReplyDelete
  28. I said before the season started we would ship lots of goals in, purely as his system means that is what happens a lot. Thing is Gilstrap, do you have faith that they will get the right man next time if they do sack him?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Were never gonna get him though cos someone will, and alonso returning ofcourse would be amazing but i think theres more chance of us getting didi hamann bk!

  30. Someone else will pay more*

  31. A cb should be our piority now since agger and skrtel have been dr jekyl and mr hyde over the last 2 years and show know changing of becoming the world class cb we thought they would be i think kelly is more suited to the right and coates i only have football manager as a reference too! Someone with european cup exp is a must not just for a cb but for any signing we make kids cant do it on their own and now already when sturridge isnt in the team we seem missle a crucial part of the wheel.
