'El Niño Maravilla' to LFC? BR lines up €26m striker to replace Luis Suarez

In December 2012, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed that Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers had 'ordered his scouts' to 'collect information' about Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez, and reports today suggest that the Reds are still watching the Chilean international.

According to reports in Italy and France, today, Brendan Rodgers is preparing for the possible summer exit of Luis Suarez, and sees Sanchez as a possible replacement for the Uruguayan.

The 24-year old attacker - who is also interesting Manchester United - is struggling at Barcelona this season, and with only 4 goals in 34 games, the Catalan club is reportedly ready to offload him in the summer. Sanchez recently acknowledge his problems in front of goal. he told Marca:

"The fact that I can't score makes me nervous. At any rate, the hard thing is to create chances, and this is something I'm doing."

Liverpool were linked with Sánchez in the run up to the 2011 summer transfer window, and around that time, Udinese Chairman Franco Soldati made the following statement:

“Sánchez of interest to both English and Italian teams. A team has already offered a figure close to 30-35 million euros but I cannot say where it came from"

It was speculated that Liverpool had made the bid, and considering the club went on to spend over £50m during the catastrophic summer of 2011, it's definitely possible.

Barcelona signed Sánchez - nicknamed 'El Niño Maravilla' (The Wonder Boy) - for €26m 2011, and it seems unlikely that the club would sell Sanchez after spending so much money on him only 18 months ago.

Despite his struggles in front of goal, Barcelona caretaker boss Jordi Roura insists the club is happy with Sanchez. He told Fox Sports recently:

"We are very pleased with the work and his attitude. He's been a bit unlucky and I'm sure he will go on to score goals, and that will give him a lot of confidence"

Rodgers recently admitted that he expects to spend the summer batting away bids for Suarez, but if the Uruguayan jumps ship, is Sanchez a viable replacement?

  1. Replcace Suarez? No. Work along side him maybe.
I know you arent the biggest fans of Suarez, but he is our best player by a long way, and if we start to sell our best players, I dont think that would send a very good message to other top players.

  2. will m8 most if not all the top players will be gone soon we will just have to get used to that fact, its been a graduale thing but imo its something that we will see big style in the comming seasons, young players brought in and if they prove a hit sold on for big profits

  3. Sanchez is a winger not a player who is going to play C.F I would like to get him but not at the expense of Suarez.

  4. Dont see it happening at all.
With Sterling and Suso both signing long term contracts and Borini, Sturridge and Coutinho all recently arriving along with Downing finding form there really doesnt look to be a place for him unless we can clear out atleast two of these players.
I dont think (Hope) Suarez doesnt leave because it really will send the wrong message of selling our best player.
Also i dont think we will be investing heavily in our attack as other areas are a bit more pressing.

  5. When Saurez says he loves Liverpool which bit of that means he is leaving?

  6. I think Suarez will leave us.....the club dun show any promising to star player at moment....

  8. imo suarez may well go in the summer and hand on heart who can blame him hes a winner, and whats to win things the way we have performed this year is not going to help attract top class players either not that we acctually try to sign top class players, kenny was sacked because he wanted to take the club forward and was to big a voice for fsg to ignore,so they used the champions league as a excuse, gave the job to rodgers with no targets in place ,but then hes just happy to have such a high profile job ,no doubt rodgers will still be here next season and i expect another barren year,no decent players no stadium news no nothing,we have the derby left this year then the players mite as well go on holiday, saying that some have been on holiday all season

  9. I'm wondering if Man U are interested, is it because they are preparing to lose Van Persie and will therefore need a replacement?

  10. Jase no disrespect mate, but your sounding like a broken record but your entitled to an opinion. Irrespective of whether KK remained or not would not have made a blind bit of difference. Unless your suggesting KK would have brought champions league which judging by his last few months in charge was too far fetched!
Call me a cynic who is to say that LFC wasn't just a stepping stone to bigger things. The only thing that gives me hope is Sturridge's presence. Another potentially top striker plus Coutinho may help Saurez buy into BR's long term plans. Doubt if you could say the same for KK's signings!

  11. no there interested because hes a good player and would be able to attract him and keep rvp, makes you sick

  12. I think BR will be here next season too. I also believe he deserves that second year.....
Don't get me wrong as I am probably as nervous as you about the start of next season and could not stomach another like this.
I just feel if we get rid of him now, the new man will obviously want to do his thing which would then result in another clear out and starting from scratch again.
Plus, if all is to be believed, he actually does want some quality experience bought in, not just promising youth.
I think there is a little more disagreement behind closed doors than we are led to believe regarding the transfer policy which will not be known until summer.
The powers that be continuously contradict themselves in these matters, ie, Werner stating we can financially compete with anyone; then Ayre coming out with, if we had got Dempsey last summer then we would probably have not been in for Sturridge due to not enough funds......Which is it?
IMO, apart from Carroll and Spearing, we do not need to be selling anyone really and instead, adding some experience and depth to our squad for a realistic push next season. Let's see what happens ........

  13. wow m8 sturridge as played well but apart from that who has played better kds signings or rodgers, and no disrespect to sturridge the way some fans are going on about him you would think we had just signed pele, and i will tell you one thing if you think we would have been so far behind the pace this season as we are under rodgers, under kenny no disrespect but i think your deluded

    ReplyDelete
  14. Liverpool will be smart to start looking for a quality top class striker just in case. Suarez is committed to Liverpool but most people living in the real world must know that if Liverpool continues to miss the mark when it comes to moving up the premiership table and getting into Champions league Mr Suarez will not stay for too long. The draw of real competitive football else where might become too much a temptation for him to resist.

Really talented individuals always want to play alongside other really talented individuals. Unfortunately the whole Liverpool squad in its current incarnation is far from a squad capable of challenging for a top 4 finish. Suarez at Liverpool is nothing more than a big fish swimming in a very small pond.  He will eventually want to test himself at a big club (sorry Liverpool fans) but Liverpool used to be a big club and has shown in recent years that they can no longer compete with the big clubs. So are now no longer one of the top 4 (Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U and now City). Liverpool can eventually hold on to him by spending big and bringing in real recognized talent. Suarez carries Liverpool on his shoulders and were he to leave the attack would certainly crumble. Bringing in real recognized talent is one way to distribute the burden and lighten his load as well as prepare the club for that faithful day when he decides to push on.

Alexis Sanchez is a move in the right direction. Rodgers has shown a lot of interest in Barca players recently with an attempt sign Christain Tello last summer rebuffed only to see the youngster sign a professional contract at Catalonia club. Sanchez is a player that has been on the Liverpool gaffer's radar for quite a while. Sanchez has all the attributes that Rodgers likes in his attacking players (1) Short so he posses a low center of gravity like Borini, Suarez, Coutinho, etc.(2) Sanchez posesses a lot of pace like Suarez and  Sturridge (3) he is a player who can play on the wings and up front as a striker.  Rodgers has shown that he likes his strikers to be comfortable on the wings as well. He has deployed Borini , Sturridge and Suarez out wide on different occasions. The only person who couldn't play out wide was Carroll.

Suarez might be at Liverpool for a long time and there is a chance he might not it is a good idea to look at other options just in case. We are not capable of giving him champions league football this season and probably not next season. The whole team will need to be gutted for that to happen starting with the defense.

  15. That's my point exactly. (Even though I was being a little sarcastic!) :-)
We still outnumber them overall by one trophy I believe, which still makes us the most successful team in our league. Yet whereas we talk of losing our best player and planning for life without him, (all hearsay and conjecture may I add) they look to add more quality to their team in an attempt to stay at the top of the tree.....
Bear with me mate, I need to vomit!.....

I so dont understand why every 1 is on FSG's case fan pressure got kenny the job after some decent results he got the job which most fans at the time wanted it never worked out and he blew over a 100mil on his stupid buy british players which may of worked 20yrs ago for blackburn but was never gonna work in modern day epl where technique and athleticism are key components in the modern game fast forward last summer FSG go out and finally appoint there own manager so give him a chance this year was always gonna be an uphill task but Brendan's team is taking shape and is much better than the team he inherited yeah some buys have been questionable but there young and all have the potential to come good as did Lucas

O and might i add we were days away from being put into administration and goin out of existence so the FSG bashing is a bit lame for all those out there tryna get there point across i mean afterall there not middle eastern Oil magnates

Real fans get real and support there team and see the positives not bash our owners for trying to put our team on the pedestal we were once on

As for Alexis Sanchez coming to us a big NO the EPL will be to physical for him and when you score 4 in 34 for the best team in the world ever (arguably) doesn't bode well for a mid table destined sleeping giant would rather Iago aspas from celta also alot cheaper in line with our transfer policy

    ReplyDelete
  17. If we don't show some ambition and buy a top player, Suarez will go. He wants LFC to succeed so much. You can tell by his efforts on the pitch and his body language, but he's gone if we don't buy a quality player to improve the first XI

    ReplyDelete
  18. I kind of believe Suarez HAS bought in to BR's plans, whether or not he has bought into FSG's is another matter entirely.....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Europe in any shape = Suarez stay

    WIN WIN WIN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. totally agree m8 if we do not show we are going to give it a real go in the summer i dont think he will hang around but if we can get 2or3 really good players in quick he may stay because i also think he wants to be a success here

    ReplyDelete
  21. either way if he goes in the summer or a new man comes in after 10 games a new manager will always want to do things his way bit of a lose lose situation

    ReplyDelete
  22. how is brendans team much better than the one he inherited forget coutinho hes only played 1 game,so there only sturridge who is an improvment as the rest of rodgers signings are bench material and i will carry on showing what i think of fsg untill they do something to f!cking change my mind

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why must REAL fans only see the positives?
If I don't see your truths does that make me plastic?
I do not bash FSG but would like consistency in their statements and a little more clarity; then there would be no need to second guess their actions as we would know where we stand.
Do you honestly believe that if FSG had not come in then no one would have?
BTW, you mention about them putting us back on the pedestal we once were on, then talk about a mid table destined sleeping giant that should bid for cheaper players in line with our transfer policy! Is that the same policy used to get on said pedestals these days?

  24. europa at best champions league your having a laugh:-(

  25. I disagree somewhat to your point on "not being able to challenge". SUre the first half of the season Liverpool struggled and are paying the price for that now, but ever since the arrival of Sturridge, the team has looked quite devastating in attack. And not one person can deny that when we have played the big guns (Che, Ars, City, MancU,TOt), we have looked like beating them all every time (except for that first Arsenal game), but for silly mistakes and ridiculous screaming goals, the results have unfortunately been underwhelming. had those matches been won, who knows what the table would have looked like this season? (speculation i know, blah blah...but think about it)

So it is instead IMO a case of disadvantage to start with, and secondly, a case of hard luck or "sinking yer own boat". Issues surely to be improved on in the season to follow. As lucrative and persuasive a move to Barca, Bayern et al sounds, I still have to feel a front line of yourself (Suarez) Sturridge and Coutinho is just as persuasive a reason to stay.
    Long Live Pistolero at Anfield!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Fair point and a valid opinion. However, neither of us may have to wait that long as the summer window may tell us all we need to know about the upcoming season....

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anybody who plays Fifa knows of the existence of value in the market! There is a globe full of footballers to select from, why is it so unimaginable to get good players on the cheap that become great?

Why must a club spend 80 Mil, 50Mil, 35 Mil on players that in the end actually have no guarantees of succeeding at the club? Why go with the policy of going with the hype...
Look at New Castle, a team that last season had no business rising to the heights they did... why? because of clever and effective cheap signings, not to mention nicking a dime off of us for panic buying into the hype.

FSG have shown their ability to spend, as I'm sure we'll see it again, when the time is right. It's all relative, you must see things with a birds eye view. One fact remains - we have a better team and a better structure this year. The club is slowly steadying ship... what's not to be positive about?
Sure there have been disappointments  but that's football! and someone's gotta lose, might have been us this year (on the basis of results), but going forward? I see big things

    ReplyDelete
  32. NOT impossible... Improbable haha...

Big factor in the "maybe" is that we have most of those teams between and 4th to play (bar Arsenal and WBA)

    ReplyDelete
  33. whats more alarming is if results went against us this weekend is that mathermatically this season we would not be able to win the league with 10 games remaining

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hahaaa! Winning the league is still not impossible... just HIIIIGHLY improbable!

Maybe all the teams above us spontaneously all break out with ebola virus and have to be quarantined and have all their reserves play and they lose all their remaining games!

I use to enjoy this site, reading some very intelligent comments from a lot of people here but these days, even though the number of comments have increased tenfold, the quality on the other hand has decreased 100fold!
Jaimie if your reading this, i dont know what your giving to the "best commentor", be it chup-a-chups or mars bars, I think you should consider stopping this...You may be happy having 200+ comments on every article you posts and it may make you proud as a journalist but I think deep inside you know what I`m talking about.

  39. Swapping Carroll for Sturridge is a big improvement, even if he's the only change to the team which Brendan inherited.

Unlike yourself, Jason, I like the way FSG saved us from financial obliteration when they took the club over and pumped in an immediate £300m.

It's going to take time and we all need to be patient.

City were bought over by Sheik Mansour in 2008, they won their first title in 42 years in 2012. That's 4 years and almost £1 BILLION. What, exactly, are you expecting?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Usual media invented rubbish - the Manager - the Club - the Player - his Wife - his tem mates say he is staying but thats not enough for easy hits merchants.

  41. If this is true and, again, it's a big IF, and Suarez sees this, then there is always the chance that he'll see what BR is trying to do for next season. Having Alexis Sanchez in the team along with Sturridge, Coutinho, Gerrard et al, will give us the most potent attack since Torres & Gerrard were a partnership.

I would also love to see us try to bring Alonso back to bring experience, class and sheer ability to our midfield. Along with the two young Dutch centre backs and ter Stegen,  we can have a squad capable of competing with any in this league.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hey Jason, I shld have been more specific since Sturridge has come in you can see the weight lifted off Saurez's shoulders. Regarding KK's attack based signings none have made massive strides in persuading Saurez to stay. Granted Hendo & Downing have improved but both are at best good squad players!
Most importantly is we both want LFC to climb up to the upper echelon of EPL!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've said it before and obviously have to say it again; I do not play Fifa or any computer/console games and therefore do not gain any of said game's insights into the real world.
I am also not opposed to getting cheap players any more than I am FOR getting expensive ones. I just want the right ones. (some people on this site are so convinced of their own opinion they regularly misinterpret the point being made by someone else and then endeavour to belittle that opinion with their own overwhelming intelligence. A reason I have not posted for some time; but hey, I just can't help myself wanting to know other's thoughts on a subject close to my heart.)
The figures you have quoted did not come from my mind let alone my mouth!
I was merely replying to a comment that seemed to point out that certain opinions of others are not worthy of being a fan.
I have also stated before that whilst statistics and such are all very interesting, I tend to lead from emotion. It is the only reason I follow the sport and it drives my passion. It doesn't make my statements or beliefs any less viable than someone's whose statistical knowledge outweighs my own.
Yes, I thank FSG for the positives they have done and do not hate on them. I just want to know their interests are genuinely the same as mine and unfortunately they have confused me at times with their own statements.
Believe me when I say, I would much rather not have any negatives to discuss regarding people or institutions that are associated with our club. But even if we were only discussing positives, I am pretty sure there would still be differences of opinion.
Please do not take any of my comments to heart or as an attack on you as that is absolutely not the case and I do agree that it is all relative at this moment in time.

  44. Didn't Ronaldo WANT to leave?

    ReplyDelete
  45. No offence or attacking mate... just replying to what you said because it demanded a response from me :P.

We all have a large level of emotional attachment to the club, which is why we b1tch and moan so much about them. It's a bit of a silly thing if you actually rationally think about it - as grown ass men putting our energy and emotion into a team of whom we'll probably never meet in our lifetime...

But hey it is what it is, I've been a fan since I was 7 years old and much of that is driven by nostalgia and emotion.

Just imagine the day (*not far from now) when our results are being banged in and we wiping the smiles off both sets of Mancunians!
That's why I'm positive and this is the day I wait for: Past glories restored through good, nay, GREAT football and honor (even though I fully support Luis as his honor has been called to question many a time)...

*Jaimie - just remember, Most great teams had a bad boy! The player we love to hate or hate to love!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Why is it always to replace Suarez???

    ReplyDelete
  47. Good points, SA_Red. One question though: who was the player LFC fans 'loved to hate' in the late 80s when Barnes, Beardsley et al were strutting their stuff?

How about Bob Paisley's 70s/80s team - who was the 'bad boy'?

What about Shankly's team? Who did the fans love to hate?

Benitez's CL winning team in 2005: who was reviled by the media as the 'bad boy'?

LFC are different; the club has never had a player like Suarez who just pi$$es all over the club's image.

    ReplyDelete
  48. When you put it like that, all I can say dude is, I wish I could be as upbeat as you. It is something I honestly endeavour to do; in life, not just the football team I love. Just a little difficult at the min.
I too have supported them since I was that age and imagine in my dreams most nights, wiping the smiles off 'their' faces; (also Chels.. ; can't even finish that word!)
Thanks for the clarification; and I have my fingers crossed (genuinely and extremely tightly!) that your optimism is justified....

No but its a step in the right direction we need to build a team we dont have the capability to go and buy that world class player we need to convince a player of suarez quality that where goin places and make it less likely him not leaving in the summer any fan who believes we got the money let alone the allure of attracting big names like a Falcao or Cavani is deluded not saying allen or borini are quality in all fairness i do not really rate them but that is the market we are in atm

And as for any 1 coming in for us there wasnt exactly a host of wealthy consortiums or Billionaires trying to negotiate a deal with Martin Broughton it was just FSG

  54. Way of the Yanks . Sad isn't it ......
We are a grooming club. Get them young and sell to the ambitious when the good n ready.  FSG turnig this club into LFA. They want to make as much as Arsenal. Turning Rodgers fate into Wenger's. They how good Wenger is but controlled him and knows Rodgers' ability to groom players n get the best out of them. He's turned the worst in Henderson to a much improved player. Downing is another. Lets just hope a real passionate buyer come knocking at our door. Not too much of a Roman though....

Fowler had a wee bit of a bad boy image and Nobody liked the Gov'ner.

El Haji Diouff - disgusting man (not proud that he's African! Even more disgusted he wore the Red shirt!)
John Arne Riise - Thinks he's David Beckham back home, A norwegian female LFC fan once told me she hated him (does that count?)

    Craig Bellamy - Golf Club

Stan Collymore -kicked and punched girlfriend, threated to kill and burn parents houses down, accused of dogging and lost his job on radio because of it (not all relevant I suppose)

Jermaine Pennant - drunkard bar fighter... spent numerous times in prison.Ok That's all that I could come up with... not a conclusive list of undeniable offenders, however! HOWEVER! Most of these guys had controversy for things OFF the pitch. All of Luis' are born ON the pitch (aside from a few naive media interviews). All of his offences are born of competition, while off the pitch he is a family man, does good in communities and pays his dues...So, one way or another for whatever points you can gather from this: There be it...

But who knows, perhaps Luis Suarez can LEARN to conduct himself appropriately and live in the fabled "Liverpool Way".

  69. thought so kenny gets blamed for all rodgers failures by some people

    ReplyDelete
  70. :)  that's funny.........
seriously though, the Hicks Gillet thing; whatever that actually was, was as bad as it gets.
FSG are definitely not THAT bad.....

    ReplyDelete
  71. I definitely agree. My wish exactly. Keep him for one more year and see what happens in the summer transfers.
If we are still doing so poorly that he needs to move on, then, as much as it would hurt, I for one would bear him no malice.
I just want to believe so badly, that if we add the right people in the summer, then he will not have to move at all to realise his ambitions.....And ours!

What is yor actual issue with BR ?

Last season we finished 8th currently 7th spending considerably less progress being made

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't know what else needs to be said. Liverpool has beaten up on Norwich like nobodies business but has failed to take points away from big clubs above them in the table.    There was a time when we enjoyed a position higher up the table than our local rivals Everton. If that only doesn't tell you that the standards have fallen at the club i don't know what else will.

Like all Liverpool apologist you blame simply rotten luck for the poor performances. We have shown periods of brilliant football against lower ranked teams. Something definitely happens to us when ever we play against Norwich which doesn't  seem to translate against clubs further up the table. We put in a good showing against the big boys but we never have dominated in a game against them like we did against Swansea just recently and against Norwich twice this season. We had our way against the Swans and the Canaries it was like watching a different team in action. Until we can pull off that performance against the likes of Arsenal , Spurs, Chelsea etc then it safe to say that we are not going to "Be able to challenge" for a top four finish. Teams on the top are nothing but consistent and

    ReplyDelete
  74. I get what you're saying and agree with some, if not all of your comment.
I for one believe the ownership issues began going wrong when David Moores decided to fall for Hicks' and Gillett's rubbish, instead of selling to the Dubai people.
However, my initial disagreement was only in reference to not being considered as a real fan if I couldn't only see positives with the current regime.

    ReplyDelete
  75. rodgers net spend is not much less than kennys,so would you rather finish 6th or 7th under rodgers or 8th under kenny and have to cup finals rodgers has spent another50 odd million to maybe get 1 place higher i would rather finish 1 place lower and have 2 cup finals to watch if we were talking about 4th it would be different but were not

    ReplyDelete
  76. Still have plenty of chances to prove we can before the end of the season...

    Come on you reds!!!

  83. Wishful thinking on Jaimie's part. He doesn't like him and if I remember rightly he argued against signing him

    ReplyDelete
  84. As is buying titles as opposed to working for them within a sensible budget and not fall foul of FFP?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Exactly! Fowler wasn't exactly everyone's cup of tea either, especially with his goal line sniff & asking Le Saux if he fancied a bum!

    ReplyDelete
  86. We're not a 'great team' right now, Jaimie, so aren't we allowed one now?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Fowler was part of the 2001 treble winning team.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think the point we're all missing, and one that gives me a bit of hope for BR, about KD's signings playing better than BR's is that it is BR that has finally got KD's players playing to a better standard in only 7 months. Obviously I'm only really talking about SD and JH.

Our performances have been getting steadily better (not brilliant, just better) and BR's Jan signings look to be good. Sure JA hasn't been the player we all thought he'd be (or exactly the player we thought) and Assaidi has been out for whatever reason, but on the pitch we're looking ok. All reason enough for BR to deserve a 2nd full season at least

    ReplyDelete
  89. I don't think SA RED was talking about players LFC fans love to hate. He is talking about opposing fans.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Definitely agree about Souness. He was probably one of the most hated players from opposition fans and players, he gave and took some horrific tackles... but he did everything for us and for Liverpool. All he wanted was for Liverpool to win trophies no matter how his perception from the outside world was. Remind you of anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  91. A decent player but a replacement for Suarez? This isn't a serious suggestion is it?

  99. We need to be positive. Suarez needs to be given praise. He's really tried to turn things round. How many cautions has he been given in the last 10 games. We need to do everything possible to keep him here. He is a winner and fights for the team and has recently shown that he can do this within the laws of the game. Jaimie, give him a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Comparing SOunessto Suarez? I've heard it all now :-)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Why replace Suarez with Sanchez? Why not add Sanchez to the fire power we have now? Getting rid of our best player to replace him with one who is mis-firing does not show ambition at all. Liverpool is a big club - if not bigger - as Bayern Munich. Suarez must understand that if he moves to Bayern without winning much with Liverpool will not look good on his CV.

    ReplyDelete
  102. KD  had 100 mill and his signings have had 12 months more at the club lets see how BRs boys go next season.

    ReplyDelete
  103. sometimes I honestly wonder if Jaimie celebrates when suarez scores goals. He probably gets all stoked and then realizes that suarez scored and sits back down and goes "psh whatever he's a cheat"

    ReplyDelete
  104. So, what you are saying is that you want us to become like Chelsea, in other words, a revolving door for managers. What we need to be successful again is stability and time and patience to see the new ideas come to fruition. Yes there has been inconsistency this season, but when it has looked right, it's looked fantastic, we have more goals now than we had for the entire season last season. That has to be a huge plus.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Are you saying 10 games and you will support another club?

    ReplyDelete
  106. And where is the proof of that??? When did they sell our best player? Skrtel, agger, suarez, all signed a new contract.. If they wanted to sell, they could released all of them last summer... And if in the future one or two our star players decide to walk away, we still have to look at alot of reason behind the decision before we can say that we become a selling club.. For example, if someone handed in a transfer request, etc... Also in football, players come and go, nothings wrong wuth that.. Ronaldo utd to madrid, zidane juve to madrid, xxxxxx.. Will you call united n juve as a selling club aswell???

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thats what im saying.. Please show us, when did we sell our best players

    ReplyDelete
  108. Seriously????? The worst owner we ever had?? You sure you are a liverpool fan??

    ReplyDelete
  109. So, what about malaga, rangers, etc.. Not every team has the privilige to be owned by a sugar daddy.. Will you be happier if we spent like crazy, and live with huge debt? We have to build our own bussiness, made more income, before we can spent big.. And that will take time. You think united become one of the richest club, in one or two seasons? ... And would you mind to count how much money had we spent for players under fsg? Surely you will find it bigger than alot of top teams in europe.. And please dont give me "net spend" thing.. If fsg really as bad as you said, they could put the money from players sales into their own pocket...

    ReplyDelete
  110. sell suarez to bayern for Gomez+Gustavo+£30m...

    ReplyDelete
  111. FSG brought Suarez in soon after they took over, didn't they. Think they've shown their intention, too.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Those Dubai people (DIC) were so rich that they had to be saved by some other sheik some years ago. And we might not have been able to get rid of them the way we got rid of H&G.

    ReplyDelete
  113. We are probably a bigger club than Bayern when it comes to global support, but they surely have more money to spend, a big, new stadium and win quite a few titles in their league, which itself is nothing to be sniffed at (anymore). But Bayern probably won't be buying Suarez. They don't really need a player in his position and the only one they probably would like to get rid of is Robben, who hardly plays in Suarez's position.

    ReplyDelete
  114. torres they did not match is ambition so he chose to leave same as suarez may well do

    ReplyDelete
  115. so what if we score goals we have conceded loads as well and when it as looked great it against the poorest teams in the league and even then some have made us look second rate

    ReplyDelete
  116. no i am saying he should be sacked unless like i suspet fsg are happy with a yes man

    ReplyDelete
  117. net spend there,s not much between kenny and rodgers plus rodgers also had all kennys players

    ReplyDelete
  118. also think they knew torres was going m8 so lets get that right

    ReplyDelete
  119. And then they have funded the signing of Carroll to show their intentions, so lets get that right, too.

    ReplyDelete
  120. with the torres money how muh have they invested in players out of there own pocket

    ReplyDelete
  121. Oh, ok. Sorry, I didn't know that.
I  had always believed DIC were absolutely loaded.
Mind you, it's still pretty difficult to say we narrowly missed that disaster then, as Hicks and Gillett were hardly a saving grace!
Does make you wonder, correct me if I'm wrong, with DIC, H&G, the Chinese consortium and some other lot (didn't the Man City owners look at us at some point?) that it takes all those different companies to look at LFC and they all turn out to be dangerous for our intentions. Yet the other 'big' teams above us have no trouble attracting potential suitors who have genuine money to announce their own intent.
That said, I am giving the current set up the benefit of the doubt and giving them my loyalty into next season at the least.
Fingers crossed the summer is fruitful and my fears are alleviated.

    ReplyDelete
  122. What a crazy crazy world we do surely live in.
As you rightly say, when it comes to global support, we are probably bigger than Bayern. In fact, we can hold our own with pretty much anyone on those stakes.
Why is it then that a club with the size of our support and steeped in the history it has, finds it so difficult to attract the types of consortiums that Utd, City and Chels.. have.?
(I know it will be sweet, given the time to make it a success. It will feel much better having earned it the correct way rather than some sugar daddy getting bored with his Playstation and deciding to have a go for real. The FFP thing as well. But is there actually anyone that would genuinely turn that instant cash fall away in favour of what we currently have?)
BTW, it's not a rant. Just asking a hypothetical question...

    ReplyDelete
  123. Don't you usually claim that they are taking money out of the club?

Out of their own pocket? Didn't they spend 300m out of their own pocket to purchase the club? This is quite some amount of money to me.

    ReplyDelete
  124. DIC are loaded again now, but during the meltdown in the financial world they really struggled.

Hm, well, those Glazer guys don't seem to have the best of intentions from what I've read (which isn't much concerning Man U). Abramovich is a bit of a lucky punch when it comes to owners. I've read more than once that he did all this to be so much in the spotlight that Putin couldn't kill/arrest him.
It took Man City quite a time to find owners willing to buy them a league title. Shinawatra, who was interested in us as well, was there before the current lot and that wasn't all cosy. I've also read that their current owners would choose them above any other available team because they've already got a new stadium.

That makes two club owners in the league who put in enough of their own money to run their clubs unsustainable and achieve some success along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  125. It's not as if the league is littered with sugar daddy owners who actually deserve that billing.
Man U are saddled with debt so much that I don't know how they still manage to keep afloat. Hardly sugar daddy owners they have.
Abramovich allegedly chose Chelsea over us because they had qualified for the CL the season he got bored with his Playstation/FM/wife.
I couldn't tell you why the lot at Man City chose them and not a club that was bigger already. At the time there probably were at least 10 clubs bigger than Man City which they could have bought.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Thanks for the clarification. Why can't our owners be as clear in their statements?    :-)
Mind you, I'm sure the Man U fans are happy enough to be winning?
And I do remember the Shiniwatra fiasco, thank goodness for small mercies hey?

    ReplyDelete
  127. True....The sugar daddy label doesn't really apply throughout so I take that back.
Also, Man U are up to it in debt but still they manage to keep winning and attracting players.
Abramovich.......? You've basically said it regarding him. (how I dislike that club!)
Was the Man City thing a cheap option for them to buy at the time?

    ReplyDelete
  128. The sheiks allegedly paid 200m for City at the time they've bought them (2009). H&G valued our club at something like three to four times that, so City obviously was the much cheaper option (plus with a new ground in place already).

    ReplyDelete
  129. what part do you not get they spent 300 million to get 4or5hundred million thats the only reson they invested stop trying to make them out to be saviuours there here for the cash and thts it

    ReplyDelete
  130. I don't get the part where they've got 500m for us. And I don't get the part where anybody is currently willing to pay that for us either. I furthermore don't get the part where being less competitive would raise our value and/or make some parties interested in paying such kind of money.

    ReplyDelete
  131. There was a reason I asked you this question and you have not let me down. Thanks again.....
(I really should increase my statistical knowledge in this regard   :-))

    ReplyDelete
  132. they got us cheap we will live on the money the club earns they will sell at a profit end of,and thats one thing in life that i can garauntee you

    ReplyDelete
  133. Mr carr , you are one negative dude, You don't deserve to be  liverpool, and that's my opinion, no insult intended.

    ReplyDelete
  134. sorry super fan and i am not a dude you muppet

    ReplyDelete
  135. Man U did something right when it comes to marketing. Some of their fans formed a split off team, but they fill their ground nevertheless. And, as you say, they keep winning (that probably is the best trick of them all). Anyhow, it's puzzling how they keep afloat with 800m or so debt. That should worry some of their fans, even though they are winning.

Not letting Shinawatra buy us is a small mercy indeed. As is Morgan, now at Wolves, not buying us. We'll never know what would have happened had DIC bought us. They are an investment vehicle so we wouldn't be better off when it comes to owners wanting to make a profit on us on the long run. If I recall it correctly Morgan was the only one interested in us without the clear (or obvious) intention of wanting to make a profit by selling up in the future, but he's never had enough money to buy us anyway.

Maybe the club should hire me as their communications director to bring across some clear statements to the public.

    ReplyDelete
  136. You really must be super-rich if you think buying a football club for 300m is cheap, Jason. In other words, I don't think they go us cheap. If that would have been such a cheap price there surely would have been plenty of other interested parties at the time, right?

We live on the money the club earns. Right. What's wrong about that? I live on the money I ear, you probably do it as well and everybody I know does it. I know folks who own mid tier companies. They live on the money they earn. Companies that don't tend to end up bankrupt. Is that what you want?

Yes, FSG MIGHT sell us at a profit at some stage. I never said something different. We ceased being anything else than an investment (to the money men of this world) as soon as Moores put us on the market.
But FSG won't be able to sell us on a profit if they get us relegated or sell our best players, or don't run the club sustainable. Unless someone very rich and very bored who happens to be a Liverpool supporter comes along, that is what I can guarantee you, Jason. And one doesn't need to have much business acumen to figure that out anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  137. May I consider this a compliment? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  138. Oh my god. Unless we have owners who pump millions of their own money into our transfer kitty you'll be not content, right. FSG don't match your ambition, either, eh...

    ReplyDelete
  139. I thought we looked really good against Man City (twice), much of the game against Spurs, the other Mancs and so on. How you class the teams as "the poorest teams in the league" is beyond me. The table doesn't lie in this case. These "poorest team" are at the top end of the table, Jason.

    ReplyDelete
  140. :-)
They could and have, definitely done worse!
I totally forgot about Morgan; thanks for the reminder.
I suppose, in the long run, I just can't seem to get out my head why there aren't queues of business men wanting our club?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Most definitely....
It is a weak point I have.
Everyday I bog myself down with statistics regarding my job and my other passion; understanding the universe, (bit deep I know, but that's just me doing me).
Football to me was an escape route for my mind to embrace nothing but the pure, unadulterated emotion that this wonderful sport brings. Alas, this sometimes gets in the way of my knowing absolute facts regarding this matter. (I fear it may push out some much needed information regarding the next star going supernova!)
    :-)

  142. Insulting people again, eh.

    ReplyDelete
  145. get used to it or stop bothering me 3 posts of you in 10 mins your like a stalker go and annoy someone else

    ReplyDelete
  146. I personally don't think that football is a good business to make lots of money in (unless you are a player).  Most business men who have bought clubs and mustered some success are either very passionate about football/a certain club, or extremely loaded and bored at the same time. H&G have bought us, because they thought they could make a profit, but didn't. Don't know much about Lerner at Villa, but that one doesn't seem to be going too well. Same goes for the guy at Birmingham. Now, I don't want to say that FSG are stupid, but they might end up with no or little profit in the end. Most businessmen stay clear of football clubs or other sports teams. FSG though seem to be pretty passionate about sports. Thinking about it, Portsmouth didn't do to well after being bought by some business man. Same goes for Hearts. I don't know, but maybe some of those rich folks need something to polish their ego.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I'd actually prefer to know less of those facts, but have a job instead. Anyway I was always a bit obsessed with statistics and the like. My significant other claims that I have a statistical analysis at hand for all the things I care about (like my much loved record collection).

    ReplyDelete
  148. No, I won't get used to people insulting others (and it surely isn't in line with the site's comment policy). Maybe you should get used to getting replies to you comments. Speaking of those, you seem to be like a stalker and also seem to annoy quite a few people. I still think it is quite interesting to discuss with you, until the inevitable evasive answer you come up with at some point (usually as soon as it gets serious).

    ReplyDelete
  149. Look, if you don't get over getting replies you don't like or maybe even can't handle to your comments you may as well stop commenting at all. What do you expect of me? That I just read you posts and don't react to them. Is that the world you live in? You say something any everbody who doesn't agree has to shut up?

    ReplyDelete
  150. No, I'm not happy, but we weren't crap nearly as often as you seem to think. Get over it. And stop spreading lies about me.

    ReplyDelete
  151. BTW, would it be asked to much that you elaborated on the questions I've asked/comments I've made instead of side-stepping all the time?

    ReplyDelete
  152. What are you on m8 Liverpool are still a very big club just that they are not up to their own standards yet.

    ReplyDelete
  153. no m8 i have tried to answer your ? but then you ask another and another and another and it gets boring going over the same thing every time with you your not interested imo and me yours so go get someone elses opinion theres plenty more on this site with views simaliar to mine go and send them posts you have sent at least 10 in the last 2hours it gets minotimous ,i will have to change my user name some lol;-)

    ReplyDelete
  154. Just like you told the other commentator that you are not a dude, I may tell you that I am not a mate. One rule for all, also for you, sorry.

Could it be that I simply don't understand the argumentation behind you answers or that there isn't one, so have to ask further questions. And isn't a discussion about asking and answering questions? I thought so, and even the kit this site works with suggests that this is a discussion.

So far I haven't come across "plenty more on this site with views simaliar to" yours. And, as you surely have observed, I do actually reply to almost everybody I wish to, not only to you.

What is "minotimous"? I have never heard that word and the online dictionary I use doesn't give me any suggestions.

Go on, change you user name. You'll soon find out that me replying to your comments has nothing to do with your user name, but the stuff you post.

  155. The Assaidi thing is one that really rankles with me. When he has played he hasn't looked too bad. I actually think he penetrates better at present than Sterling. (not saying RS isn't good but he's gone off the boil and it really wouldn't hurt him not to have to start any of the remaining matches of the season.)
He (OA) has become a bit of an enigma at the club and not much is known about him.
If BR is seeing something in training to keep him out then so be it; but a little info from him concerning the matter would not go amiss.
So many other players have underperformed at times but still get other opportunities. Why not him?
I think he could do us some good if he were to get a half decent run and he is now at the right age to show some consistency.

    ReplyDelete
  156. You obviously didnt watch Souness every week like I did. Believe me if Souness was under the same scrutiny that modern day technology etc allows you would see things differently. The supposed "stamps" you are illustrating would not have warranted a mention during the 80's.
