'Terrific' €2m star admits: 'I'm happy to be linked with LFC. Good enough...?

Celtic central defender Efy Ambrose has responded to recent transfer rumours linking him with a summer move to Anfield.

In an interview with Sky Sports earlier today, the 24-year old Nigeria International - who only joined Celtic in the Summer of 2012 - enthused:

"I am happy to be linked with a club like Liverpool. My dream is to play across the border. The English league is the best but I am happy at Celtic"

With Liverpool certain to be in the market for new defenders this summer, Ambrose is the just the latest in a long-line of centre-halves to be linked with the club.

Last week, Celtic winger Kris Commons publicly criticised Ambrose's performance in Celtic's 3-0 Champions League to Juventus. He barked:

"Look, the manager picked [Ambrose]. The manager pulled him to one side and asked him if he was feeling okay. He said he was feeling brilliant. You know, if he wasn’t feeling okay, then he should have said so. If he felt good, then he should have put in a better performance."

Pretty unprofessional behaviour by Commons there, but he's right though: Ambrose cost Celtic two goals on the night with sloppy defensive play, and also missed a gilt-edged chance to score. Hoops boss Neil Lennon was, however a little more forgiving. He told the BBC:

"I've got a lot of time for him, I've got a lot of faith in him. He just had a bad night [against Juventus]. He's a terrific player and he's a lot of suitors out there already but he wants to play here."

Ambrose cost Celtic €2m, so if there's a deal to be done it should be pretty affordable. I doubt, however, that there is any real chance of a transfer. Ambrose has yet to play 30 games in British football, and the Scottish league is not the greatest test for central defenders.

  3. That we did.  On a serious note, I would like to have Big Andy back here.  I think he could be a nice addition to the team and offer some attacking depth and help offer an alternative strategy.  I felt like Brendan should have at least offered him a chance.

Unfortunately, the 35m is always going to be held against him even though it wasn't his fault we overpaid.
