'It drove me nuts' - Aldo explains how Dalglish could've kept LFC job. Possible?

Anfield legend John Aldridge claims that Kenny Dalglish would still be the manager of Liverpool if he hadn't made what he deems to be a fatal fatal mistake during last season's FA Cup run.

FSG terminated Dalglish's contract after a horrific run of relegation form in the second half of last season, but Aldo believes that if the Reds had won the FA Cup, Dalglish would still be in charge today.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo today, Aldo described 2012 as a 'crazy year', and argued that Dalglish's team selection for the FA Cup final cost the Scot his job. He noted:

"The FA Cup final against Chelsea drove me nuts. The wrong team was picked as we needed Andy Carroll out there from the start. The impact Carroll made when he came off the bench underlined that.

"If Carroll had started I believe we would have won the final and Kenny Dalglish may still be manager. I know the owners said they would have made the change regardless but it would have been very hard for them to sack someone who had just won both domestic Cups"

Whether Carroll would've made the difference or not is debatable, but there's no reason to doubt John Henry's emphatic statement on the issue:

"The FA Cup would not have made any difference had he won it. No, no. For us, we were 17th over the second half of the season and Liverpool should not be in that position. The play was lacking - I think it was obvious to every Liverpool fan that something was wrong and something needed to be done in the current circumstances. We had a very poor second half to the season."

After the final, Henry refused to shake Kenny Dalglish's hand during the post-match medal presentation.

John Henry refuses to shake Dalglish's hand

It was clear at this point that the writing was on the wall, and I posted on the day that it was only a matter of time before Dalglish's time was up.

FSG absolutely made the right decision to change managers. Results under Rodgers are admittedly inconsistent right now, but looking forward, I feel optimistic about Liverpool's future, and that feeling just wasn't there under Dalglish.

  1. You need more than just your opinion to justify that it was the right decision to replace KD.

Refusing to shake his hand was disrespectful, regardless of whether KD was going to be replaced or not.

I still support Rodgers though, and hopefully it looks like FSG are backing him this transfer window too.

  4. The reason that  John W Henry refused to shake Dalglish's hand was NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FA CUP DEFEAT.
John W Henry was extremely pissed off with Dalglish's handling of the Suarez/Evra affair.
By the time he came over for the Cup Final he's already made up his mind about Dalglish.
Let's not get Nostalgic about Dalglish he was TERRIBLE in his handling of the press & the player purchases.

  6. a team who gets to 2 cup finals by beating  boths manc's chelsea and a hell of a semi against everton plus fsg never spent a penny on suarez or carroll ! 2 has passengers made way in torres and suarez and to judge kenny on his last league games is fair is it well tell were we wqould have finished if you judge him on his 1st 38 league games we would be in the top 4 of the 10/11 season when he was snubbed and wrongly so for hodgson then sacked for a nobody who has done alot worse than kenny in his 1st half season and has no comolli to haggle transfer fee's take downing 20m because he couldn't sign adam johnson or ashley young  but rodgers could have signed him and we lost lucas and suarez this time last year we were flying high kenny had seen this and setup momo diame free and theo wallcott 14m then kenny would have had cover and the sqd would have been better having played together but we a gamble by spending 25m changing bosses and we buy joe "the crab" allen and borini who is no adam johnson but cost the same  but fsg wanted a yes man and jw henry showed his class by not shakin kennys hand or having nothing to do with the hillsbourgh recored

  7. Jason - how many times: of course it's just my opinion. I don't suggest otherwise. Should I put 'IMO' after every single sentence? Also, in the same sentence, I put 'I feel', which makes it clear that it's my opinion.

  8. The most disrespectful anyone could have done regardless of the result was exactly what John Henry did... Not shake the hands of the manager was a disgrace! To just hold his hands and give him a look as shown was absolutely more appalling than losing if you ask me!
I didn't like what KD did re transfers and chose incorrectly, but show some respect and show some sympathy as no one loves LFC more than Dalglish!
    :(

  10. On the surface, FSG bought the club and stabilised it during a time of utter crisis. They appointed Dalglish as manager partly in order to continue that stabilising process, and partly as an act of trust in the fans because of a lack of football knowledge on their own part.

It's fair to say that LFC had constant extra hurdles to contend with throughout Rafa Benitez's management and this made his job more difficult. Certainly more difficult than the circumstances that Kenny Dalglish was dealing with in the summer of 2011. A now stable club with an opportunity for a wonderfully positive statement of intent. LFC finally had the chance to lure players without the stigma of uncertainty that had previously surrounded the club. Granted, Kenny had signed Andy Carroll in January, but he'd also signed Suarez - and you're allowed one mistake, surely, right?

And then he signed Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, and Charlie Adam.

It's a miracle the bloke wasn't fired by Christmas after messing up that badly from such a strong position. Aldridge is talking absolute arse here. If anything, Dalglish overachieved with the dross he chose to purchase. But that's hardly a reasonable excuse to have kept him on. We're still feeling the effects of his errors today in that FSG appear to be scared shitless to allow more mass spending. Fair enough, the net spend from the Torres/Babel/Meireles sales effectively funded a large portion of that budget. But the way the money was spent was shockingly naive and irresponsible.

FSG's biggest mistake was signing Kenny up for longer than just the end of the 2010/11 season. Conversely, if Kenny had just left at that point, his shadow would still loom large at Anfield over any other new manager who got off to a faltering start. So perhaps it was for the best that Kenny was dismissed when he was.

  11. A new positive me for 2013, As long as Liverpool produce on the pitch thats all I care about.  The players have to give 100% every game and earn the victory.  In the 80s and 90s, players won games because we were Liverpool.  But the fear factor has now gone.  teams know they can come at us and get a result (Villa & Stoke).

  13. yes he was terrible at player purchases,he did not have anything to do with assembling the most exciting team to ever grace anfield, probabley english football,he also had nothing to do with makong blackburn champions

  14. hes american they have no class, the man is a disgrace to lfc,the sooner he and his company make a profit on lfc and ,do one the better, because at the end of the day ,thats all he his here for ,and anybody who says different is talking absolute b"llshit imo

  15. Kenny did an excellent job when he was appointed the interim manager but when he became full time manager then he botched everything. Biggest reason for his failure was definitely his poor signings and i still couldn't understand the fact why he stopped playing Maxi and Kuyt when they were in such a great goalscoring form season before and Maxi was scoring almost every game.
Now i am happy with the job Brendan has done so far and team is also playing good brand of football. Only concerns for me are that we are yet to beat decent enough team in the league, also our team lacks physical presence that doesn't mean i want Carroll back but someone like Diame or Ba or Benteke would be good additions.

Henry reminds me of the bloke in Shameless.  There's something about an old pale face with dyed black hair that does not work :)

  17. Heroes for us but a terrible man to manage a team. Has no believe over the youngster like Rodgers did till now. Wrong players to choose and just treat them as babies them as gold without trying to push players talent, look what happen to Enrique, Downing , Hendo and specially Carroll. Last but not least handling the club issues over suarez, this is the most vulnerable one that FSG dislike.
Rodgers is the man that LFC need, you all may not look at it now. But look at this last season..I'm sure we will get top 4 spot to champion league. Or..if it's not happen 2 more season we will lead over the others club in EPL. YNWA!

Of the Fergie brigade who succeeded in belittling Rafa at every opportunity post the "fact" scandal only Megson has disappeared of the football map.

Only Big Sam and Old Arry left on Rafa's Kill Bill list.

  22. Yep he was a roaring success at Newcastle & Celtic wasn't he Jason?
Adam Average Carroll average,Henderson Average, Downing Average.
Before you start foaming at the mouth Suarez brilliant, Enrique good.
We finished over 37 points of the winners and 17 points off 4th place.
To your comment about Blackburn, he spent more money than all the other teams to win the league.

  23. Why would he have been sacked at Christmas when we were 5th at that time?

I agree KD was supposed to be the caretaker and the person who stabilised the club. But after he got us to 6th and we drastically improved you can't blame FSG from giving him a longer deal. We could have been relegated under Hodgson.

  24. you can have all the money in the world it still as to be spent right, how many managers won f"ck all after spending shed loads of money at real madrid for years and years, also rodgers signings below average to would not know as they cannot even get in his team for f"ck sake

    ReplyDelete
  25. All KD wanted was for liverpool to stop being so dependant on Stevie G, Yes he was a bit blinkered in his signings for the club but always wanted the best for LFC. The least FSG could do was to shake the man's hand...

  26. The Suarez affair, poor value for money spending, league position as well as lack of press charisma cost Daglish his job as well as not winning the FA cup. Personally i`d rather talk about the present manager than the past. Believe he should of been given 10 games still in this season.

The biggest factor for me was league position followed by Suarez case.

  27. like it or not kenny remains the king! loved this football club more than anything.. and i simply love his celebration when liverpool scored..with his instinct reaction to turn towards the fans with his hands up celebrating.. he is part of us and as much as we want us to succeed, dalglish wants it the same. for all his contribution for this club he deserves to be knighted. still cant understand what they r waiting. should have been..long time bfore alex ferguson

Look what Kenny did with Ginola, Asprilla, Big Les Ferdinand and the rest of Newcastle's quality players.  Sold them and replaced them with Andreas Anderson, Stephane Guivarch, Nicos D-d-d-dabizas, Alessandro Pistone, Temuri Ketsbaia and (Drum roll please)....... 36 year olds Barnes and Rush. What I'm saying is... The writing was on the wall as soon as FSG dropped the cash in his lap.

  31. i never said he was ,but hes as big a legend at our club ,and how did i answer my own question,on second thoughts don,t tell me ,i find it amusing that some people think he should be punished over the suarez inccident imo he was right to stick behind him,and i will never blame him for that

  32. On Fergies instructions the media played a massive role in getting Rafa the sack too. Yet few people realise it.

    Fergie is keyser soze.....

  33. sir kenny has a nice ring about it,alas hes not connected to man ure so it wil be a miracle after the way bob paisley got overlooked, lfc is well overdue a knight of the realm

  34. I think the money spent and league return was what killed him off, but I do agree with Aldo that if we had won the FA cup, you would have to keep him, as two cups in one year is damn good. It would show signs too that things were on the up. The Carling (or new name) Cup just doesn`t mean that much, so on its own it isn`t enough to warrent staying, all sorts of teams have won it. The FA Cup though does have more pride to it.

Two cups in one year, after a dry spell, would be a good year, dispite the money spent, and also help get in better players.

What a difference a day makes huh!

    ReplyDelete
  35. For me, he achieved that 6th place finish with a better playing staff - even a better playing style - than the one he adopted for certainly the post-Christmas period of last season. The club gradually regressed under his management, and that was a huge worry for the owners of a club who evidently felt that their initial hesitancy to offer Dalglish a long-term contract was being justified.

The owners obviously wanted to feel a degree of control again, and the Suarez-Evra problems just before Christmas are a good indication of when and where exactly it all started to go wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don`t think Fergie tells the media to do anything, I just think the media are aware that Man Utd have a crazy amount of fans, and backing him helps sell more papers, get more hits online esp as he has shown if you go against him he will block your media company out. I`m sure Fergie uses this to his advantage, but I honestly don`t think he actually tells them what to do.

Rafa imo was sacked due to his role in going against the last owners, and it was deemed he would be a threat to any new owners, therefore he was sacked to help create a clean slate for new owners. New owners who could put there own man in charge without having to sack a club legend first.

  37. great in his time. as a player, and as a manager. but when kenny was appointed i argued with my dad and uncle (who thought that was glory days back with kenny) that football had changed a lot in last 2 decades, and thought Kenny had no tools for modern game, and its -over- tactical aspects.

a part of me is glad that Kenny got removed as a manager, sad also.

Rodgers has shown a lot of promise and we are definetly going forwards rather than backwards. I am frustrated though that we arent taking leaps. and with this pace, if we dont show ambition in transfer market (signing likes of Damiao instead of Di Santo) it might take 2-4 years before we can realisticly compete about top 4 finish.

FSG need to change priorities also. Football, is the biggest sport on planet. Liverpool has one of biggest fanbases of the sport in Planet.

Baseball is played in U.S and Mehico! ole!

put your money where the money is wont you.

  39. Don't agree with Aldo here.

We need to go back a bit to understand how/why Dalglish came undone.

The question to ask is 'what was the difference between Dalglish's
caretaker stint that impressed FSG so much they handed him the job
permanently, to that just before his sacking.

When Dalglish was first appointed he came in promising to play an attractive, attacking style of football the fans all craved.

In players like Maxi, Suarez, Kuyt and Miereles, we had a forward line that understood how to play with each other.
Individually, apart from Suarez, none of those players were 'big
names', but beacause they complimented each other so well, they in
effect became greater than the sum of their parts.

As a result, towards the end of his caretaker period we were playing some great attacking football.
The fans were exited, FSG were exited,  and it was an easy decision to appoint him.

I remember watching an end of season interview with John Henry waxing
on about how Kenny was 'absolutely the right man' for LFC after his
    teams performances.
He specifically highlighted how Liverpool supporters expected us to play with a certain 'style', and Kenny had delivered it.

As a result, FSG allowed Kenny to spend believing this 'style' would continue.
At great expense in came, Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam.
Anyone familiar with those players understood a change of style was coming.
FSG just didn't know enough about football at that time to realise what those new players meant.

To this day I am at a loss to understand why Kenny changed that system.

IMO, Kenny made two errors that unfortunately compounded each other to seal his fate,
    1) The style changed to a target man setup, and
    2) He relied on almost exclusively English talent to deliver that style and results.

History now shows that gamble failed miserably.

I have little doubt FSG were furious with what had happened.
Comolli was fired as much for his negligence in not continuing the 'style of play they expected, as in overpaying for players.
Nothing was going to save Kenny at that point, the damage was done.

Dalglish was removed, and Rodgers brought in to reestablish that 'style'.

  40. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Had Kenny picked another team, then something else may have happened. Had Kenny spent 35m on another player than Carroll, everything might be different. Had Houllier not bought Diouf and Cheyrou but better players instead, he may still be our manager. Had Rafa not alienated Alonso, we might have won the league and would have never bought Aquilani. There you go. It's all in the past. People did what they did which caused to happen what happened. Past mistakes are a wonderful think if one learns from them. Kenny probably won't have another job, he can enjoy his truly deserved retirement. Also needs to fill column inches and has to come up with some stuff from the past. Nothing happening right now?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Spot on - I'm glad someone sees sense.

John Henry is mummified old perv who should bugger off with his trophy wife and leave us with our team.

The King will always be a bigger and better manager than the ex-Swansea one.  BR is a nice guy but has nothing in his armoury.  What has he won? Nowt.  Stop blaming KK - Steve Clarke was in his camp and he wasnt getting out of the players what he is at WB... The overspend and crappy buys were Commoli and FSGs fault.  They just respent when players were sold.  Nowt out their own pockets.  Cheap yanks

  42. im willing to still give FSG two years to show their colors. they made a heavy investment first year. and they are to blame it was misspent (is that a word, propably not)

their own buy british young talent *ucke* them in their own A*s*s. wonder how we wouldve finish if the policy wouldve been buy young international talent. maybe kenny would still be manager. who knows.

anyhow, 2 more years, if nothing happens, ill jump in to the "out with FSG ship"

    ReplyDelete
  43. a legend he is but i will never forgive him for the signings he made for the kind of money spent we were suppose to turn into a top 4 team but he turned us into a midtable team n people are still defending him 35m for carrol thats cavani's price range what the fuck!

    ReplyDelete
  44. True, but we should not forget that he took over a very successful team in the 80ies. He then added the top talent of the time, but I've heard people claim that he left Souness an ageing squad without any young talents comming through.

    ReplyDelete
  45. we were 1st or second in the league when he left and should have won it,souness thats another kettle of fish

    ReplyDelete
  46. There are claims that his success at Blackburn was down to Mr. Walker's millions. A bit like Chelsea and Man City nowadays. Don't want to take anything away from Kenny, just add a bit of perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes, it's all FSGs, Comolli's, the tea-lady's, the kit-manager's, the groundsman's, the bus-driver's fault. Kenny did nothing wrong, ever. Just a bit like Rafa. He, too, was never at fault for anything.

    ReplyDelete
  48. We will never know what went on behind the scenes. Maybe Kenny told Henry that he is a bloody idiot or something. I for one wouldn't read too much into a handshake not given.

  79. Paisley won that title for Dalglish, like or lump it! Dalglish was never a manager, carried by others at the other clubs he 'managed'.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  82. Daniel S. will score ten goals for us this season- EPL.

    ReplyDelete
  83. yes and ray hartford was the brains at blackburn

    ReplyDelete
  84. I agree with Aldo that if Carroll had started that match, the result would have probably been different, but I don't think that the result of that particular match cost him the job. As Henry said, finishing 17th in the second part of the league is unacceptable and Dalglish was never their 1st and long-term choice since they took over in 2010. Last season's poor results, in many ways, provided FSG with the perfect excuse to sack him and implement their own working framework as they fully desired to do.

Sacking Dalglish was not nice, but had to be done for the future of the club and I'm pretty confident that it will pay off. Our club is in many ways copying what was done by Borussia Dortmund and it has paid off for them big time after about 4 years of sacrifice. Maybe it will take around 4-6 years before we'll be world beaters given the competitive nature of the EPL. I wouldn't be surprised if our planned return to glory happens while another big club starts their 'down period' given how things work in our planet.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Ah the auld hindsight logic from Aldo. Impacting from the bench and impacting whilst starting a game are two different things. It doesn't necessarily further underline it, Aldo.

    ReplyDelete
  86.  Your loyalty to Kenny is commendable but his record clearly shows that he was the wrong man for the job. He wasn't fired like Di Matteo at Chelsea who won a double while finishing  in the top half of the table only to lose his job the following season. Daglish is a Liverpool legend and the club will always be indebted to him and of that there is nodoubt. Kenny is just unfortunate in that the modern game seems to have passed him buy. Watching our squad last season and to some extent this season it is hard to believe that we actually won the Champions league trophy. There is no doubt that our club has seen a drastic reduction in quality.

John Alderidge is off the mark definatley. I don't believe Kenny would have kept his job had he won the "league cup" or the "FA cup." The cup that FSG are clearly more interested in is the won you get when you win the "Champion's league" competition. For that to happen you have to successfully navigate up the league table and finish in a top four position. This is the priority for FSG and so it has become Brendan Rodger's priority.

Jason the "Liverpool way " that loyal fans like you have become accustomed to has failed to work and a new system and new personnel was needed to move the club in new direction starting at the top with Kenny. It was inevitable really.

Rodgers has made some great changes and also made some mistakes but it is nothing a good goal scorer in January won't solve. I believe that Brendan Rodgers is the right man to lead us forward.

You might not be happy with FSG but you have to remember that the "fucking cowboys" came in as we were facing relegation and cleared up our debts with the "Royal Bank of Scotland." They were seen as saviors by some.  Boy how quickly we forget. They gave Kenny a treasure chest for his transfer Kitty, unfortunately BR won't get that kind of money for sometime. I think we are in good hand with BR.

  87. Then if he turns out to be really good, lose him for free. Or better still, give him a better contract and he loses interest and returns into his shell.

    ReplyDelete
  88. If he turns out to be really good- he'll probably want to stay, and even if he doesn't we have all summer to get better options and we had really good player for a half a season- win win in my opinion...

  89. I agree that he was not a poor manager in general but being out of the game for so long did him no favors. I was hopeful when he got hired but it was apparent he was not ready for the current climate. Also keep in mind that it was the transfers and the transfer fees that ultimately cost him his job.

  90. Agree a lot with you! I noticed that things started to go downhill during the game vs. Braga where we lost 1-0 away. Carroll made his full debut and Meireles got injured. From that day onwards, we struggled for goals. I particularly believe that the loss of Meireles was what cost us most.

Without Meireles, we lacked a creative play-maker in our team in the mould of Alonso. In my opinion, letting an influential player like Meireles go was a mistake as big as signing Carroll. Whenever Meireles played, we looked like we were going to win. In his last game vs. Arsenal, he came on and provided the goal which put the game beyond reach  with an assist for Suarez. Once we let him go and replaced him with blunt Adam, the problem was compounded.

A good midfielder similar to Alonso is what Liverpool need. Allen is a good player but needs someone like Alonso and Busquets alongside him to play the passing game Rodgers wants. Arguably, Henderson and Adam in particular are not these type of players, although I do fancy Henderson modelling his game on Busquets under Rodgers because he is technically gifted and physically very similar. His performances have been improving a lot too.

Dalglish not playing Kuyt and Maxi probably increased these two's desire to leave. I don't know if Rodgers wanted them to leave, but keeping them for an extra year might have been a better option. The good thing about them leaving is that Sterling is playing and maturing into one of the finest talents of the game while Enrique has had a rebirth for the better.

  92. No, I wouldn't want Quaresma at our club. All he'd do is block the way for our youngsters to come through.

    ReplyDelete
  93. If he is better, why not- but don't be stubborn about it= if he ain't- drop him. Enough about it- it probably aint happening anyway...

  94. it was a disgrace ...KD is a Living Liverpool Legend and saved the club from the Woy disaster and to be given that treatment ....Ive lost all respect for Hendry , he may have bought the club but our values are completly lost on him ...

  97. right on Jason ...the man was a Legend who know football and even Ian Rush said of KK " he was the quickest striker at the time but his footballing brain got him into positions " ...the problem was that FSG never really wanted him cuz he didnt fit their need ( should read Puppet ) and KK was never going to be 1 ...they set him up for failer by Appointing Camolli ( cant neg a deal if my life depended on it ) and what was really wrong with KKs signings ...at the time he signed Saurez and the Carrol ( who was scoring goals for fun ) Henderson Englands Under 21 CAPTIAN , Downing who was Villas PLAYER of the Year and was on fire that season and CharLie Adam who was Blackpools player of the year and who olde Wiskey Nose ( Fergie )  said his left foot alone was worth 10 MILL ....Now if all these player were signed for a modest amount there would have been less presure and no one would have been on his back >>>>BUT CAMOLLI NEG the DEALS and FSG paid fpr the man they appointed to make those deals ...SOOO would everybody please get off the mans back and stop disrespecting HIM cuz hes a LEGEND for LIVERPOOL and WE RESPECT our Legends ...its wat makes us diffrent to the scum ...but this season ive see more Pool supporters become like the Plastic scum supporters than ive ver seen before ....and Thats FSG doing IMO ,..................

  98. Many refer to the Saurez affair as though it was something horrendous . You can break a players leg , you can go in with a dangerous two footed tackle . You can swear till u blue in the face , but if you say something that is seen as racial , you will get a far worse sentence than any violent activity.

Liverpool were placed under pressure not to appeal the ludicrous eight game suspension . What happened to democracy . If you call
a player of colour a name , shit hits the fan . Your democratic right of appeal is removed. Not saying he shouldnt have been suspended but eight games and it was all a matter of he said , I said , she said . Why was Evra not punished too . He said some choice words to Saurez.

The FA had their own political agaenda . Just before the Saurez  / Evra incident . Sepp Blatter made a statement that played down the racial issue . The English FA saw that as an opportunity to call for Sepp 's sacking as relations with Sepp were at all time low besides of the World Cup venue awards . Sepp is not good for football , no doubt about it , but the FA made an example of Suarez to show that they would put their money were their mouth is . Next their pursuit of the bum John Terry even though courts dismissed the case against him .

Strange how Clattenberg was cleared so quick . He was of course accused of racism against the Spanish , which aint so bad as , yeah guess what .

By the way , I am not white . Its just pure hypocrisy

  99. Thank U Anthony , its good to see that they are actually supporters who can read wat happens in the background of football clubs for yourself and not believe EVERY OPPIONON the INternet media or FSG /BRENDOMS PR team puts out there .... I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT IF KK and CLARKE were here this season we would be in 4th or higher and not a REBUILDING for Tomommorrw and then the day after and the Day after tht .......

  102. listen mate!!!! queen kenny brought us C.H.A.D (Carroll 2 pints plz, jordan aka katie price henderson, Charlie chaplin adam and stewart on ur way DOWNing) everybody knws benitaz scouted suarez not that pork face of a manager dalglish now look at his signings carroll (loaned out sold in the summer) adam (sold to stoke) downing (left back soon to be sold) and henderson might come through so there is ur overrated british crap who cant even beat algeria lol

  103. Suarez cost him the job. The support for Suarez was amateurish and diplomatic but Suarez's refusal to shake heads and Kenny's embarrassing diatribe in defence of him got him the boot. Sad episode really and as a hero of mine I thought that it was kind of a Shakespearean tragedy.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yeah! We will then be an all-English team fighting with Watford and Millwall for playoff for promotion! Those fk cowboys, claimed by you, did their part in spending tons of cash on players. The only thing wrong is that they know nuts about English football coupled with a pure stupid act in appointing KD and Comolli as management and approving almost 80 mil pounds of 'talents' spotted by KD and Comolli. Apart from that, I really can't see what's wrong with the cowboys.

  105. Good one mate, I needed a laugh!!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Those fans criticising Kenny Dalglish either need to have their heads examined or are too young and immature!! They will probably start supporting Everton if they finish in the top 4 at the end of the season, Lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. you couldn't put it any better, but it also felt like a Braveheart tragedy too, at times when KD was in front of the media i couldn't help saying in my head... HOLD...HOLD...!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Yep, Fergie is the conductor of media and powers that be, but what really makes me laugh is fergie treats them sh#t when he is in press confrences... Wow he's dangerous, he could be kobayashi?!!

    ReplyDelete
  109. What? Do you actually support Liverpool? Fagan was boss before KD. Not Sir Bob.

    ReplyDelete
  110. But what people don't realize is that Dalglish has always been a very average manager. In his first stint as Liverpool manager, he had Bob Paisley by his side and already a champion team. At Blackburn, he had loads of money to spend...
Besides this, he has been very poor at Celtic and Newcastle.

    ReplyDelete
  111. they did not come in as we were facing relagation they hired hodgeson

  113. they think life started at istanbul

    ReplyDelete
  114. Nonsense. Paisley was only on hand for the first year or two. Also the team Kenny inherited had won nothing in 1985 (runners up in league behind Everton). It was Kenny who brought in Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge, Houghton and won the league at a canter. Everyone wants to give BR time to succed yet Kenny was given barely 18 months...

  115. good post i could not have said it better,

  116. Rafa scouted every half decent player on the planet. Well, he probably didn't scout them himself as he clearly had other things to do (e.g. managing the team).

On another note, while I understand you unhappiness with our former manager and some of his signings, there is absolutely no need to call them names like that. May I add a "listen mate" to this. How would you like it if other commentators added silly names to you name, just because they didn't like what you wrote. Very poor behaviour Ali2smart555.

  117. IMO Kenny was sack because of wages, all of this is cost cutting and with a court case (over ownership) coming up and the Judge saying that it could go either way FSG are saving or rather stemming the flow of money so not to lose so much if it does not go in their favour. If it does in the summer you will again see investment from them. I believe this is the same reason we did not buy a striker back in Jan2012 when we needed one. Kenny is a victim of cost cutting, if you don't believe me do some research and prove me wrong. Results, Suarezgate are just a smoke screen as these muppets have chopped and changed constantly. You may also question why another bidder at the time of sale offer 20-100 million more than FSG to buy the club but were turned down by RSB. Look at the connections between Inner circle, Barclays, and RSB as well as LFC.

  120. It doesn't matter who the owner of the club is really, as people who love commenting on this website would only be happy if that owner spent millions and asked no questions. No owner in their right mind would do that, if they did do that it would be beyond negligent. Dalglish was and is a legend of the club, but his transfer dealings and handling of the Suarez/Evra matter were very poor. People need to accept that the good times of the 70s and 80's are over and that its time to move on. Just because you move on and make changes does not erase the past. Instead we always have to listen to the likes of Aldo, Molby et al carping on about what the club should be doing, which more often than not make little or no sense and/or is some misty-eyed refrain to the past. The thrust of what Aldo was saying here is that had Carroll been played in the final Dalglish would have kept his job, but it was Dalglish's decision not to play him, so surely by his own argument he rightly lost his job, i.e. he wasn't an effective manager. What I like about FSG is that they appear to be approaching ownership of the club responsibly and with long term goals, rather than just trying to attempt a short-term fix by spending loads of money (Hicks and Gillett tried this and then realised that their money was being spent with minimal returns). You only need to look at Portsmouth and Leeds to see the folly of that approach.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Its people like you who live in the past where Dalglish should have stayed his buys proved he had lost touch with the game.

    ReplyDelete
  122. It's easy for Aldo and hindsight ain't it.

I thought the Henry thing was a non-story as he had greeted Dalglish just before the pic was taken.  I'm sure another pic exists somewhere.

John Henry knows nothing about running a football club by the way.

  125.  If KK wasnt their long term choice any way -why would they allow him to spend 120 odd million pounds? If his remit was to buy british talent then thats what he went for. His biggest mistake was the purchase of Carol which stuck out like a sore thumb as the guy didnt perform until it was too late. Downing lost his confidence because carol didnt put any chances away and it made him look bad.

Im sure the chap that could bring together barnes, beardsley and aldridge together could have put together a good team without meddling. And if bad purchases was what lost him job BR isnt that far behind - none of his purchases have performed - and ironically hendo downing, enrique, and suarez all of KK signings have performed this year! Steve Clarke has gone on to do well for West Brom - so perhaps it was short sightedness to get shut of him so soon.

Where KK did falter was that he refused to give play time to Maxi, Kuyt in order to justify the money spent on the others. Had he kept faith with the players that performed so wonderfully after Hodgson left then yes he may still have had his job - mind you i wouldnt be surprised if BR is given the boot at the end of the season then KK comes back in for the interim!
