'It's a money thing' - Aldo slams Wesley Sneijder for rejecting LFC. Mercenary...?

After a brief and tantalising flirtation with Liverpool, Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has snubbed the Reds and agreed to sign for Turkish giants Galatasaray. Sneijder claims that he wants to go Gala to 'win titles', but Liverpool legend John Aldridge doesn't believe that for a second, and insists that the Dutch star is like most other footballers: a money-grabbing mercenary.

Inter Milan accepted Galatasaray's €10m bid a couple of weeks ago and the reigning Süper Lig champions confirmed the Sneijder deal yesterday with the following statement:

"The transfer of Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan has been agreed.

"The conditions of the deal will be made public and the player will sign the contract after health checks [his medical]."

Sneijder himself added:

"It will be amazing and the atmosphere will be nice, I can't wait to go there and play my first game. I will make the Galatasaray fans very proud and very happy. I'm looking forward to meeting them and making a good life together."

Reacting to Sneijder's decision to snub the Reds, Aldo questioned the quality of the Turkish league, and suggested that the move is money-motivated. He tweeted:

"[It's a] Money thing...not a career move [for Sneijder]. Their league is shite. You would've thought that the lure of the Premier League would've been a far greater move."

Sneijder is 28 at the moment, and this deal is likely to be his last big contract, so Aldo is probably right about the move being motivated by money.

The Dutchman may have his issues, but he would've been a great signing for Liverpool, and Steven Gerrard agrees. When asked on Sunday if he'd like the club to sign Sniejder, Liverpool's captain said:

"He's a top player we've seen at every major tournament, he delivers. He's done it in the Champions League for years. I'd like nothing more than to see him in a red shirt. I think he'd be a fantastic player for Liverpool Football Club"

Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

  1. Where does the quote from Aldridge come from? I'd be interested to know which media outlet quoted him swearing.

  2. There is a link in the article. It's from his Twitter account.

  3. I disagree with Aldo on this, Galatasaray are a huge club with extremely passionate fans, not unlike Liverpool. I read a poll on the most popular teams in the world and surprisingly there were 3 or 4 Turkish teams on it.

He went to turkey for one reason or another and I wont begrudge him for it. I don't think he was the solution for us anyway

  4. Lets he honest, he would of wanted 120k-160k in wages he would of gave us 3 seasons.... Not worth it, But we could get coutinho. 8-10 million on 20-30 k which he can build with us grow with Liverpool. Make us the force we was.

  6. Super Lig is shite? Ha. This man doesn't have a clue, I'm a Fener fan and we have a good league, it's constantly growing and improving in quality. Fed up with people looking down on us and dismissing the league.

  8. yes and good luck to him , after all he's looking out for his family and himself , no different from any other player past or present , otherwise they'd all be skint , wouldnt be able to drive nice cars own big houses wear designer clobber , wear expensive jewellery and so on , when much wants more , more wants much of it , even if he was on 250k aweek that's his business and good luck to him or anybody else being successful, weather they're earning fortunes or a weekly wages of 300 quid for brushing the streets , lets hope we win on sunday in the fa cup

  9. The reason he rejected liverpool is because they will not be playing champs l footballl for at least a couple of years. Galatasaray are always playing in the champs league and winning titles.

  10. What's the tax rate in turkey??

    ReplyDelete
  11. Liverpool fans need to accept that they will never be able to attract class players because they are just about history. Even Everton are now a more attractive club to join. They need to sign at least 6 class players to start playing for a champs league position.
Liverpool fans need to accept that they are just a mid-table team.

  12. I dont understand why everyone is slagging the guy. Hes decided to move to an amazing city and a team who are always competing for the title. They have an excellent team. The League is improving and there are many quality players playing for all teams. Im pretty sure that F Melo could get into 90% of teams in the PL. Eboue? another player who did prettywell for Arsenal.

  13. Aldo is just gutted that once again a class player has REJECTED LIVERPOOL!

  15. I can imagine that Mr Aldridge's opinion is represented by a majority of Liverpool fans everywhere. We are a team that has suffered in the department of experienced leaders. Sniejder would have represented one more experienced presence on a team full of mostly young inexperienced talent. Let's face it other than Gerrard, Reina, and Carragher no other member of our squad has played in a champion's league game. The biggest games for most of them was last season's FA cup final and League cup final's respectably.  So with out question the addition of Sniejder (a house hold name to football enthusiasts every where) to our squad would have been massive. Sniejder is respected because of his string pulling ability and his wonderful shooting ability. The Dutchman is known for his incredible free kicks and general ability to hit it hard and accurately from well aside the box. There is no denying that Wesley Sniejder posses incredible sets of skills.

The problem here is not that he is money grubbing it is simply that he knows he is good and thus wants to be paid at the level he feels he deserves. Top stars in the game have an idea what each other makes a year. I know for a fact that with the pay policy we have in place we could not afford the best and the brightest. We couldn't afford to sign Luis Suarez now based on what he is currently worth today if he was still at Ajax and we were interested in bringing him to Anfield. We couldn't sign people like Ronaldo, Stephan El Shaarawy of AC Milan or many of the top players in the world because we can no longer compete financially with the top clubs of the world. It is this fact that Mr Aldridge has failed to understand. Liverpool does not have the swag anymore. We do not have what it takes to bring top class players into our fold. Even little Philip Coutinho has opted to not come to Anfield and instead fight for the starting job at Inter. I believe that we got Sturridge because he was fed up at Chelsea and rightly so.

Liverpool may have lost it's sex appeal when we stopped producing good results. If we were once like one of the beautiful girls at the party we are now like one of the girls no body wants to dance with. The only people dancing with us are the players who are desperate to move to a team and are basically not wanted by other big clubs. Our last signings do not factor largely among other clubs. We signed nobody any other clubs trying to sign. Brendan Rodgers has been  busy giving us a much needed make over this season but i guess it will take some time. In the mean time big name stars will go with the more attractive girls in this case the clubs who can pay their ridiculous salaries.

In response to Mr Aldridge, Sniejder is doing what big name stars are doing everywhere. They like big clubs and jump from one to the other. Ibrahimovich just left Milan to go to PSG. Nobody really leaves a big club to go to a small club. What it means is that Liverpool is only big club in name, history and ambition but nothing else. We have to get bigger in the money department to bring in top class players.

    ReplyDelete
  16. hello michael-lee , i disagree with the mid table shout , certainly at this stage of the season , im not living on the history either , i dont think the club is either , we attracted sturridge in this window i believe he's class , and i know many liverpool players are class too , its a team effort i believe liverpool isby degrees moving in the right direction , with a solid foundation , after all we're not far off 4th place

  17. Shut up Michel Lee u knob, what do know about football, you're probably a money grabbing mercenary too, or just a chav!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. At the end of the day the guy has been living on past glories for a few years now & no big spanish, german, english or other italian club was interested in him , will be interesting to see what value for money he gives gala, personally i think weve dodged another financial flop here

    ReplyDelete

  19. Only Gerrard, Reina and Carragher have played Champions League? What about Johnson, Skrtel and Agger?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lucas too. Has suarez played for ajax i it? Sturridge has too for chelsea.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mate, you've been spending a lot of time on game forums to have posted the above. I do agree with a lot of the points you make though as we are simply not as attractive a proposition as we once were historically and I for one, am unsure if we (the club) will ever return to the levels for which we are most famous.

    ReplyDelete
  22. eboue !! he done that well hes now in turkey .alright for a holiday or a one off trip to win the CL . but to play ur footy there ERRM no just a final big pay day

    ReplyDelete
  23. Completely agree, the move was all about money, which when you consider the crazy sums he was on before, makes me glad we didnt get him.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sturridge was poor whilst at man c and chelsea. He knows this is his last chance to show everyone that he can finally produce the goods. He has started off well, im sure it will continue. I think you have to be realistic and accept that this season you will be happy to finish top 6 and finish above everton.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Im sure he could easily get into your team? Especially now you are playing with Downing in defence.

    ReplyDelete
  26. why cos there lge is shit wot do they do when they come against a decent side in europe get beaten. no hes gone for the poke. doesn t give a shit about the standard hes playin . no self respect for himself just the money

    ReplyDelete
  27. I totally agree with everything you have said!! Liverpool fans need to accept that they are no longer a top 4 team in the PL

    ReplyDelete
  28. Actually he said that Liverpool made a offer? but he was only interested in joining a team who will be fighting for titles and that he wanted Champs L football. The truth hurts

    ReplyDelete
  29. It wasn't about money! he went to win championships and play champs l

    ReplyDelete
  30. well win a european trophy then your league might have a bit of cred .instead of being a cash cow for dutch has beens

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why shouldn't Sneijder earn as much as possible?

Our own beloved captain held the club to ransom multiple times.

I too was, rather foolishly, holding out hope that he might take some sort of pay cut to join us, he might have been good for us........

    Not buying this Coutinho move.......

    ReplyDelete
  32. were did you read that poll?? on the easy jet in flight magizine .bollocks m8

    ReplyDelete
  33. There are 2 sides to every story and while Liverpool may not have the "pull" they used to have, a large degree of that is down to CL money.

One of the reasons FFP (assuming it is policed properly) could potentially be a game changer is it limits clubs to spending what you earn. The sponsorship Liverpool can attract, and is attracting is greater than many teams.

Due to past spending and mis-management a cost cutting exercise has rightly been put in place to remove older high earners from the club's wage bill, many of which were never going to contribute greatly in the longer term.

At the same time, the club is scouring for younger, hungrier players. Wesley Sniejder and Daniel Sturridge epitomise this perfectly. Look at how Sturridge has started - he is young and hungry and has something to prove. Sniejder on the other hand is not nearly as hungry as Sturridge and so will probably not offer what Liverpool are after.

Mistakes are being made along the way, no-one is perfect, but impatience will only see us descend back into the vicious circle from which I beleieve we are slowly emerging. So what if the club don't sign someone else this window - if that is the case, I don't think it will be because the owners are penny pinching, I think it will be because the club cant find the correct people available at the correct price.

Yes, there will always be a requirement for experienced players to bring balance to the squad but I think we have a fair number of reasonably experienced players and rather than age being the determinant factor in us signing a player I think it comes down to player hunger to succeed and the player truly wanting to join us, otherwise we should say thanks but no thanks and move on with our search. Wesley Sniejder had neither the hunger nor the will to join us so good luck to him with his future and we move on with our future.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can 'look after my family' for a year with what he earns in a week, everyone on the planet would be well off with that amount of money.
That line is a bit flat from people who are already millionaires, mate.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mike, you're a '0' short, mate ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I strongly feel it would have been the second coming of Joe Cole (with regard to the wages situation) and that would have massively frustrated us (the fans), Buck, other players and FSG.

We are much better off looking to younger, hungrier players who need to paid less for the future development of the team.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Downing played there for one game, did you see the match on Sunday?

    ReplyDelete
  38. 15 games to prove you wrong, fella!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Then why didn't he join Celtic?

Guaranteed Championship winners for the next 4 years minimum, Champions League football every year, maybe 1 or 2 domestic cups each year. If he REALLY wanted to top up his medal collection, then that's the best place to go to!

    ReplyDelete
  40. you no the more u write the more u get wrong keep it short and sweet m8  not war and peace

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think he'll be good, mate, he's a real flair player and could inject another dimension into our attacking play.

I have a funny feeling that Brendan is taking it easy in this window as he's thinking that we might have a few of our U21s coming into the fray next season:

    Coady
    Teixeria
    Ngoo
    Adjoran
    Flanagan
    Robinson
    Morgan
    Yesil

Maybe even Pacheco, or he would have been sent out on loan/sold this window.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Galatasaray have offered him an excellent contract and the turkish league is a lot stronger then the scottish league! I guess he could of stayed at inter and collected over £200000 but he decided he wanted to prove that he is still a class player

    ReplyDelete
  43. did you see the match against Villa? they are the worst team in the PL but they still managed to outplay your team at your own ground...shocking

    ReplyDelete
  44. Pacheco has been performing greatly in the U21's but has been out of the picture completely in regards to first team football. I don't think he will get a fair/decent chance under BR, just like the last 2 managers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Unless your chairman is going to buy 3 world class players it aint happening fella.

    ReplyDelete
  46. But he's still not guaranteed winning anything, if he'd gone to Celtic, he would have been.

    ReplyDelete
  47. do your research

    ReplyDelete
  48. eboue is a right back downin filled in at left back due to a couple of injuries before u post on a lfc website get your facts right cos there are  fellas on this site who have forgotten more than you will ever know about football

    ReplyDelete
  49. you are talking rubbish man. Turkidh league has many quality teams and players. Why would he join liverpool? They will win nothing for the next 10 years

    ReplyDelete
  50. oh yes thanks buddy 110000. Im pretty sure Carroll is on the same wage

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sneider wanted the move, though wasn't exacly fitting with Reds transfer policy , no surprise no real effort was made to land the player.  With Gerrard in form, difficult to see where a Sneider type fits in.

For my money Coutinho is better value though the players own wishes hold significant sway.  Could be the game changer that Liverpool crave if it does go ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  52. You need to accept that your team will never be able to attract world class players apart from the donkey carroll coming back! what a waste of 35m. That money could of been spent on improving the whole team.

    ReplyDelete
  53. and your team then ? come on give us a laugh! you have kept your colours close to your chest come on fella .i await your reply!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. yep i guess your right but the scottish league has got to be the worst league in europe.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm thinking it was more than just money.  If he would have signed for us, there would be all that pressure to perform.  If his abilities or work rate slid, the fans would turn on him.  At Gala he can go earn a big paycheck on a team already headed for another league title and not beat himself up.  Same paycheck and he'll be gone in a couple of years.  I think it was an easy decision for him.

    ReplyDelete
  56. What truth hurts? Jog on you melt

    ReplyDelete
  57. F*ckin ell people get a life, do you think Sneijder is on blogs writing about you guys?

    ReplyDelete
  58. We should start scouting for real passionate non american owners to remain a big club. At the moment, smaller clubs are snatching all our targets at will. Can't be too proud with that. Thanks to FSG.

    ReplyDelete
  59. where did he say that? He got offered by Gala from the off. He was waiting for other offers that never came. Enquiries would have been made, but no offer pal.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You can't blame at Sneijder. From his perspective he saw a club that is unstable, offering not an ideal wages and he is 28. That why he got the a reason to choose a club that can offer him at least one of the thing money and glory. Galatasaray is a big club in Turkish and as well offering champions league football while LFC is not as good as in the past. That why a champion league position this year is crucial if we want to attract more players.

    ReplyDelete
  61. 10 years ago people said Liverpool will never win anything...yet they won UCL and FA cup..and last year's carling cup

    ReplyDelete
  62. are you saying the likes of Agger, Skrtel and Suarez are not world class?

    ReplyDelete
  63. all that i can say is that rodgers should step down as liverpool manager or simply take a break.. i really dont see him being able to concentrate on his job with whats happening right now in his private life. two big games coming up soon, arsenal and city.. do you think he is thinking about it and preparing for it? i doubt it! his sons life and future is more important than liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Wrong - with Coutinho you get potential that may or may not be fulfilled. With players like Sneijder you get fullfilled potential as well as experience. It's like buying an 8 year old car of which you know that it will go from 0 to 100 in 6 seconds and buying a car which is still in the design phase which may go from 0 to 100 in 5 seconds but it may also take 12 seconds. We have enough players in this position in the latter category. What we need is more experience. Especially in midfield.

    ReplyDelete
  65. They have great atmospheres at the big clubs at least in Turkey. And they've been signing some more prominent names in recent years, too. Anyway, the Süper Lig isn't at the same level as the top European leagues, so Sneijder surely didn't move there for the sporting challenge, to measure himself with the best, even though he might win a Turkish title or two. So, yes, the money on offer may well have been persuasive for him.

    ReplyDelete
  66. First of all for Sneijder to choose Liverpool in stead of Gala, there should have been an offer for him from Liverpool, which there wasn't. BR said so himself during the pre game press conference on Friday. So if Aldridge wants to be angry with anyone, he should aim his anger at Rodgers as he is the one who picks the transfer targets. Second of all Sneijder is on a lot of money but he does have his ex wife and kids to take care of as well as his gold digger new wife. Third of all he's nearing the end of his career so for him to make a decision based on money is not that strange. Once his career is over, he needs to make sure that he has enough money to live out the rest of his life.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Fulfilled potential and experience. Sneijder has nothing to prove and may have lost a bit of hunger. He hasn't been the player we've known in the past in recent years anyway. A bit like a 10 year old car that needs to be repaired every other week and where the mechanics can't quite find the problem why it doesn't go from 0 to 100 in 6 seconds anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm sorry but rubbish. Rodgers is a professional. Sure he'll be affected by what is going on with his sun but this has been going on long before the trial started and he's continued to do his job at Swansea and LFC all the while.

    ReplyDelete
  69. And just like during his loan moves except for Norwich in the championship. I think it's time to accept that Pacheco will not cut it at Liverpool. I don't know why because he always seems decent when I see him but for some reason some five or six managers don't seem to agree.

    ReplyDelete
  70. How true. Give me the annual wage of a good football player and I'll never have to worry about money again in my entire life.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Do you really mean passionate owners or do you simply mean super-rich owners who can spend money as if it went out of fashion?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Never able to attract class players? I think this Suarez guy is a class player for instance. Anyway, it's nice to be written off by people like you. It's actually nicest when you are proven wrong some time in the not too far future. We are on the right track.

    ReplyDelete
  73. And, unlike Everton supporters, we won't celebrate that as if we've won the league. THAT is the behaviour of fans of a mid-table club.

    ReplyDelete
  74. And bottom of the table QPR beat Chelsea in their own backyard. Now, how shocking is that.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The Scottish league surely is head and shoulders above the Maltese league for instance.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm sorry but I've seen him play for Holland lately and he's still the best player on the pitch every time. His form may have faded at Inter but that's what happens when you start freezing players out.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Is that the Holland that crashed out of the last EURO with zero points?

He may regain his form, but I'm not convinced about him anymore. He may have peaked too early in his career, but we will see.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Given that he has earned handsome wages in his career so far, he should be able to live a luxury life once his footballing days are over simply from the interest he gets on his savings.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Celtic are in the last 16 of CL, so they're not that bad - they beat Barca, remember?

    ReplyDelete
  80. shock horror a footballer motivated by money

    ReplyDelete
  81. Now anybody can hijack what kind target players that LFC wanted.LFC weakness is about money or the owner too stingy. This is the true fact. 1 by 1 LFC target are missing away to another clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  82. It seems like he's been around for ages but he is still only 21. We will see what happens I guess...

    ReplyDelete
  83. There's some decent news about FSG and changing player contracts: Lowering base wages but putting in high performance based bonuses.

There currently seems to be some sort of structure on contracts (tiers and wage levels etc) but revamping it could be interesting, no doubt a cost cutting exercise. Interesting is JK picks it up and looks into it and hopefully produces an article :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Now many clubs can destroy LFC with power of money.1 by 1 target players are missing to another contender clubs. Why?Small budget?no..no..John Henry too stingy about to get young and high quality players. They want only the youngest players with can sign with cheapest price. This is why LFC stuggle for many long times to winning some trohpy because wrong investment for wrong players.Experiment by experiment are getting bad result. Why not you break the bank account for once time to bring greatest players. It is will save your money for long term planning.Only making 2 or 3 best player to modified the team when summer transfer window is opening. You only make signing necessery players only because in your team already having a good players.Maybe you can make the profit by selling the stars with higher price when best players can shining and firing many goal.

    Fuck the greedy cunt

    ReplyDelete
  86. That doesn't mean all the players are bad does it. Mainly a matter of a defence that couldn't cut it at the highest level. That and the fact that they can't all be in a group with mighty Sweden, the Ukraine and an out of sorts France team. Both teams that qualified from Holland's group went on to the semi finals. How about England's group?

    ReplyDelete
  87. He has been around for ages :-) He's on his fourth LFC manager now! He'll move in the summer. I'm actually surprised he hasn't moved in this window to be honest. Maybe a loan on deadline day?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Omar king of pussy10:34 am, January 23, 2013

    F$&k the greedy rat

    ReplyDelete
  89. For you and me, we could do that easily from the cash he's made. But he's used to a certain lifestyle now so if his income decreases, he needs to adjust. Which is pretty hard to do if you've lived a certain life for ten years. Anyway, we never put in an offer so his only option was Gala.

    ReplyDelete
  90. yeah I'm sure it wasn't about the money as ALL the top players play in the Turkish Super Lig ! haha. Unlucky Wes, you'll soon find out how crap that league is and will try to leave after half a season. I hope LFC don't bother to contact you then either.

    ReplyDelete
  91. You know what, that's how people run contact centers. The problem is, the really top class players can pick from different teams so they sign for the team that gives them the highest guaranteed income without being dependent on a bonus system that may work against them if the manager doesn't play them for example. We're not a contact center. This fits in well with their sign young players strategy but I think it will further complicate things if we want to sign an established player. And what if Xabi wants to come back? Are we going to say well yes Xabi but first you prove your worth to LFC and then we'll pay you? If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

    ReplyDelete
  92. And Norwich beat Man Utd.

    ReplyDelete
  93. We'll see. The team is getting better now and, after the debacle with Villa, they know that they have to put away the multitude of chances that are being created. The arrival of Sturridge has started this and he will only get better. Just wait and see!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Given that he earns about 5m per year after taxes, he should be able to put say 20m aside. He might get 2% interest for that, makes 400,000 a year. Even a professional footballer can live a life in luxury with that kind of money. Well, he probably could buy a new car only every second year instead of three a year.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yep, it doesn't mean he's bad, but in which game did he shine that you've watched. I liked him very much as a player some years back, but haven't been overly impressed more recently. England? Don't mention them. When did England last play good football at a major tournament? Still we need to have a certain percentage of English players in our squad and they are not all bad, but there is hardly an English player amongst the best players in the Prem.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Why not break the bank account? One word: Leeds
    Or another word: Portsmouth

Anyway, I start wondering where Southampton get all that money from. Is their chairman so rich? How will they fare if they don't stay up? From the outside what they are doing hardly looks sustainable.

    ReplyDelete
  97. For 400k a year, you and I could buy a car. These guys buy cars that cost 400k :-) But I'm sure he won't starve, I agree :-)

    ReplyDelete
  98. Just checked, he drives a Dodge Challenger SRT8...starting at a mere 45000 dollars so even with add ons still a fairly modest car compared to fake Ronaldo's and Zlatan's Ferrari or Boulahrouz's Bentley Continental :-)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Even you and me could spend the rest of our lives making luxury holiday with 400k a year, including paying someone to look after the children, keep the house clean and wipe our posterior for us.

    ReplyDelete

If Liverpool break into the top four come end of the season I think we will have a great summer recruiting players.  I think if we dont break into the top four, then players such as Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Suarez may look to move on.  The good thing is at the back we have Kelly, Wisdom and McLoughlin to come in.  Plus those five leaving would probably raise close to £100m so we could do a massive rebuilding job.

  105. hello again lad , i dont think h got much of a chance at chelsea , but he did at bolton and he done well , in the now , he's doing really well 3 in 3 , like you im trying to live in the now , and in the now we have plenty of points to play for, it's a game at a time , i dont know who you support , which team !?, michael ill be happy with liverpool football club , the team the grounds staff, the stewards, the tea lady, the prograame seller , as long as we play with passion , commitment , consistancy , and with the attitude like in second half against united , hopefully with more goals for rather than against in each game , but aslong as we show the fight , for the liverpool cause , im not anti everton either , im born n bred in everton , yes! i want my liverpool to be above efc , but i want them to be above united even more , efc doing well if the get into champs league the fare play they got there on merit , and id want them to win it if that be the case ,

  109. Apparently his wages at Gala is the same wages that were offered to him by Inter to stay.

  110. I am wondering about Stoke, let alone Southampton. Stoke have a high net spend, for them anyway, since being promoted into PL. I think they have had the third highest net spend in the last 4/5 years! Only City and Chelsea ahead of them...of course. Not a fan of the net spend argument but still, Stoke? Third highest net spenders? Yoikes

    ReplyDelete
  111. Had to check that as I couldn't believe it, but you are right. Stoke are the third highest net spenders in the past five years. Still some 160m behind second placed Chelsea though. 15m per season is their average annual spending. Now, I don't know how much TV money and other payments they receive for things like league finish, but it could well be still sustainable, as long as they don't pay high wages.

  112. Yep, I think they are keep the wages down. Wages seems to be the key thing clubs are keeping a eye on, rather than transfer fees, in terms of running a club.

I recall a comment by Pulis once upon a time about how a few of the City's big earners earn more than most of his squad put together. Might be a bit of sensationalism in there, although might be a bit of truth in there too.

I could understand them doing it in the first few seasons, even if its risky, as to get the squad up to a consistent standard of being able to remain in PL comfortably. Its a risk but seems to be paying off so far, at least in terms of establishing themselves as a PL club.

  113. Yep, and that's probably why Southampton throw money at everything right now. They obviously don't even run their own scouting department, but simply go after all the players we are interested in. Cheeky.

  114. Pity they weren't in the league when we were going after Carroll and co, wouldn't have minded their cheekiness then! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Maybe we can talk them into signing him. Produce a youtube-video with all his highlights, they have no scout to send, sold. Any player can look good in a three minute clip. :-)

  116. FFP should never come in as its totally unfair.
Why you ask. well only the big clubs will be able to play and you will no longer get a team trying to get to the top..
But under FFP you will be allowed to buy a club sell all the assets make loads of profit then let the club die. Just look at blackburn. LFC wont be in the best place when(or if) it comes in if you cant get back into the top 4.
I'm a fan of UTD and FFP will help us more than any team as UTD earning are way above any team in the league.
I think football should stay as it is.
I dont know the full history of most teams but knowing Utd history as i do we have had rich owners buying and saving the club a few times over the years. I would guess Lfc has had a similar history of locals or fans of the club helping or buying the club in the early days of Liverpool

  117. Three minutes might be a lot to ask depending on the player!

    ReplyDelete
  118. True, but if we show all of his goals from all sorts of angles and in slow motion, we might be able to put together enough to temp Southampton into bidding.

    ReplyDelete
  119. This is very true indeed. I'd like to think that any of us keyboard warriors would look like we've never seen a football if we were put against a Conference player.

    ReplyDelete
  120. that's cool and all, i respect you think so. but how does he know liverpool even made an offer for him?

    ReplyDelete
  121. Or we can just create "scene re-enactments".Perhaps use some scenes from"Victory".Stallone could make for a goodPepe.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Think I can remember that film. With Pele and John Wark and some other professional footballers, right. Thought there was always nice weather in that film so no-one would believe it was in England. Entirely unsuitable for a video highlighting how good Andy Carroll is :-)

  123. There are loads of quality players playing in the Turkish league! Liverpool should start looking bec they need around 6 quality players! take out Suarez and aggar and you would end up in a relagation fight

    ReplyDelete
  124. Excellent bit of business signing Sturridge bec im sure he will come good. Looks well suited to your team

    ReplyDelete
  125. Sturridge excellent signing mate! if you can get another 2-3 players then maybe you might have a small chance of top 4!

    ReplyDelete
  126. now now theres no need for that! start acting like a human being L4red

    ReplyDelete
  127. Liverpool need players who are going to take the club to the next level and Sneijder would of been perfect for the team. along with another 2 players.

  130. We dont even know for sure if Liverpool even bid for him. For a start its too overwhelming a link up for us under FSG. Secondly the wages were a lot more we are prepared to pay, thirdly he wasnt english, fourthly he was an established international, and fifthly he was over 20!

dudes, Scottish league sucks and so does Liverpool right now.
even if it was for the money as least he will be playing with a team that can win cups currently. Liverpool's like freakin 8th! Galatasaray will win the champions league eventually one day I promise you
