I want out: 'Wonderful' £20m LFC star willing to take pay-cut to quit Anfield...

The 'Pepe Reina' to Arsenal rumours just won't go away, and with Liverpool confirmed to be in talks with Birmingham over the January signing of Jack Butland, the Spaniard is reportedly desperate for a move away from Anfield, and the Emirates is his preferred destination.

Arsene Wenger's interest in Reina is long-established, and the Gunners boss made a £20m bid for Reina back in 2010, as confirmed in the Spaniard's recent autobiography::

"Arsenal offered £20m, a phenomenal amount for a goalkeeper. Part of me felt that I was well within my rights to consider my future.

"Liverpool rejected it. I was told that my continued presence was crucial to the sale of the club. I was simply a bargaining chip in the sales process"

According to reports over the weekend, Reina - recently described as 'wonderful' by Brendan Rodgers - is desperate to leave Liverpool, and would willingly take a pay-cut to achieve a move. Goal.com reports:

"The Spaniard is believed to be open to a move to Arsenal in the forthcoming window and is even ready to contemplate a drop in his £120,000-a-week Liverpool salary to push the deal through"

The Arsenal link has intensified over the last few weeks. According to a report last week, the Gunners have 'already made moves' to bring Reina - who Rodgers recently described as a 'wonderful player' - to Highbury:

"There is up to €75 million from existing cash resources available for the manager to use in January, which could result in €62m of new talent arriving at the club. The Gunners are looking to reinforce the goalkeeping...position and have already made moves to bring in some of their top targets, who include...Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina"

The Guardian and The Independent have also recently suggested that Reina is on the way out, and The Mirror claimed the Gunners could be open to a swap deal:

"Pepe Reina is ready to leave Liverpool. His agent has been...testing the market among clubs who could afford to pay the Spanish keeper’s £100k-a-week wages. The goalkeeper could leave Anfield in January if the price is right, and Arsenal are the early front-runners".

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson also believes a move to Arsenal would be good for Reina. He told The Mirror last week:

"Now is the time for him [Arsene Wenger] to be ruthless. People talk about Pepe Reina at Liverpool. If he were available I would go and buy him now".

The fact that one of Liverpool's ex-players is actively encouraging a rival manager to sign one of the club's current players is quite telling, and indirectly highlights Reina's decreasing influence and necessity at Anfield.

Wenger definitely has money to spend in January, and he confirmed this in a press conference yesterday:

"Yes, I will be busy [in the January transfer market]. I don't feel under pressure to name names because you [the media] find them on your own. We are open to strengthening the team, but the difficulty is to find what strengthens us"

  1. if he buys him we still have jones, who some of the fans would like to see more. Hes a good second choice goalkeeper but i dont think he could step up so fast to a first choice goalkeeper. you have to handle a lot of pressure in that position..

  2. if he goes for more than 10mill then its good business.use the money for butland and ince

  3. I believe the time has come for Jose Manuel Reina to go.  He couldn't perform at its best with another manager other than Rafael Benitez and Brendan Rodgers must consider replacing him with either Marc-André ter Stegen or Jack Butland.  We further no need any players who are just willing to perform under specific managers and do not respect the heavy heritage of LFC in the worldwide football!

  4. Let him go. Don't get me wrong, he has served the club well but he has hardly been at his best over the last 18 months. I like him as a player and I have been fortunate enough to meet him and he is a genuinely nice bloke. However, we are a club in transition and Jack Butland is more than capable of filling Renia's shoes at Anfield.

  5. There is no doubt that Wenger wants him and if a decent offer does come in then we should go for it. 15-20 million is ample to go find a replacement. Butland will be a good signing for the long term not a direct replacement. Does anyone find it strange that we let Brad Jones sign a new long term deal? Something is up.

If Reina does not leave in January he will be gone by the summer.

  6. If he wants to leave let him, then put whatever we get for him to use trying to get Vorm, forget Butland as he is again only potential... Vorm is quality already!
Also why don't we test Man City's resolve with Dzeko I know its a long shot but you never know..

  7. It's all paper talk, instigated by London based newspapers.

    ReplyDelete
  8. well we should get rid of him at 00:01 tonite

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ba would be awesome at Anfield ! Great news Chelski talks have broken down, come on BR sign him!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Eminently replaceable. Anything over 10M would be decent. Some fine keepers on the continent

  11. get a grip kannwaar this story is about 4 months too old.

also your attempt to make yourself look respected by posting top commentators is pathetic. You are a ego maniac

hope you and your bunch of idiots would just F *** off

how many seconds will pass before this comment is deleted you sad, no life C ***

if you did not delete all the comments of what everyone thinks about you and your rubbish opinions there would be thousands of comments slagging you in every story

  12. Apparently due to wage demands.. So if chavski reject them then we certainly will

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's not paper talk. Reina admitted in his book that Arsenal made an offer for him. If they did once, the probability that they would again is very high.

    ReplyDelete
  14. this club is a mess and its never going to get better we are replacing quality with crap its been the trend since rafa got the boot were just another newcastle these days big club in our own heads when really were a mid table team no more

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why on earth would arsenal buy a 30 year old goalkeeper?

    ReplyDelete
  16. If he really wants to go, let him. He did well for us and thank him for his effort, but one player does not make the club. We will survive, move on and a new page will be written.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Even though Reina has not performed well this season,i would think Wenger is still interested to a degree,i am not sure how much much we can get but anything over 10 million would look like good business . Ince & Sturridge could be a great shot in the arm for us. Time to  get Sahin playing or rid of with the money he is costing, let cole &downing off as well, plenty of cheaper foreign players to take up the spaces & offer better options.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Vorm should be the replacement...BR will signs his ex-player....believe me!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Don't know why they need Reina now, consider the state he is in and their keeper hasn't exactly been full of mistakes but I'm open to him leaving, as he hasn't been consistently good for ages. Not sure on who I'd like to see come in though. Butland maybe talented but not sure on young keepers, even though once in a while you get one that performs from the off.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wanting to replace Alonso with Barry?

    ReplyDelete
  21. if we could get 20million ,sell him if he wants to go,promote jones to first choice keeper ,buy butland for 6,that leaves 14 million forget ince and sturridge, that leaves us with 34 million 40 if lfc were going to buy butland anyway either way 34 or 40 million that can buy you one hell of a striker, over to rodgers to try and persuade a world class player to join

    ReplyDelete
  22. I thought they were after Mignolet? That's what all the papers in Belgium say anyway..

    ReplyDelete
  23. No, no, got to be Hilario at Chelsea. Rodgers must have worked with him during his time as reserve manager at Chelsea!

    ReplyDelete
  24. everyone makes mistakes some more than others

    ReplyDelete
  25. Butland is not a better keeper than reina so why would you want him i just do not understand why you would even consider the guy over reina it is shambles IMO

    ReplyDelete
  26. Akinfeev, Mignolet, Muslera, Adler or Courtois to replace him

    ReplyDelete
  27. Where has reina come out and said he wants to go unless he has done that then everything is paper talk

    ReplyDelete
  28. what about the watford or reading keepers he had they would be cheap, and no doubt show there thanks by massarging his ego,we could go the whole hog and end up with a team of ticca tackers,it must be a championship thing

    ReplyDelete
  29. where barry now winning leagues and winning matchs with man city who have we got. the worst 4 centre mids in the prem lucas allen henderson and shelvy.  our team is a joke to when rafa was here

    ReplyDelete
  30.  whats the big deal if he wants to go let him.....sick of seeing him whinging on the pitch as though his sh*t doesn't stink ...hes made loads of errors in the past 3 seasons i didn't realize he was on 120g a week ...why ...get him sold hes no better than jones

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think we should do the opposite to what lawro says he's only comes out and mouths off when things aren't going well

    ReplyDelete
  32. your right mate like he worked with the welsh xavi (joe Allen) and this fabio borini and what have they both done except waste 26 million pound and add to the stupid wage bill that the so called king kenny left us

  33. Of course, one has to feel for those Doomsday Preppers who thought the world was going to end on 21/12/2012. Now they are sleeping with cans of baked beans under their beds. Guess what they will be eating for the next few years.

    ReplyDelete
  34.  you must have been watching a different player to me because all i see is an average keeper who blames everyome ba himself

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lucas and Shelvey were signed by Rafa?

The mind boggles but i actually think Lucas is a damn fine player and Shelvey still has a long way to go.

Luckily we got rid of 'homesick' Aquilani :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. when your getting rid of discontinued stock your first offer is the best offer.......it would be wise to apply it here ....his contract will be 6 months shorter  he will be 6 months older we will have to pay 6 months at 120g for a player who could cause unrest .....let wenger have him i feel the deal may be already be in motion

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ba seems like a footballing mercinary to me ...i dont want him...hes not the type of personality we need around a young squad

    ReplyDelete
  38. Is it just me or are we in agreement about something for the first time?

    ReplyDelete
  39. please can we have a ban on mentioning rafas name its getting highly repeative and boring ...RAFA IS CHELSEA MANAGER I REPEAT CHELSEA MANAGER THERE IS NO POINT GOING ON ABOUT HIM

    ReplyDelete
  40. He is not going to take a paycut. for sure. He will milk the club and then move on.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Id let him jog to arse nil if the price is right, reina has been garbage for a few years now, lost count of the number of games where the first shot a team has, bang its in the net,

    ReplyDelete
  42. he may be doing us a favour Reina has been average for 3 seasons ..hes no way a 120g a week keeper ...just no F*CKING WAY .....hes let goals in that my kids could have stopped and he couldnt organise a pi** up in a brewry where corners are concerned hes either glued to the spot or punches it to one of there players

    ReplyDelete
  43. I believe the issue is not whether he is better or not,a keeper should be te catalyst for a team,he is obv unsuited to the "disco" style of BR's,he's going to be a bigger problem the longer it goes.Wish him well and let him go.We are in enough of a mess as it is.BR dealing with AW,this should be good.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jamie Kanwar you muppet arsenal play at the Emirates not Highbury...shows your knowledge. Reina is a legend and probably past his best so fits us being linked with Jack Butland

    ReplyDelete
  45.  the number one thing that annoys me is guys who are on half a million a month for playing football  moaning about the club when there are fans like me and you contributing to there wages without a pot to pi** in ...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Really like the guy, but this season he doesnt seem to be fully commited. He is terrible at his near post. Lost count how many goals we have conceeded at the near post. Jones number 1 gullacsi no2. Walcott plus 10m ill be happy

    ReplyDelete
  47. ps dont get me wrong i appreciate they want to win ...and i wouldnt hold it against a player like suarez who gives everything ....but reina this guy plays one good game in 3 perhaps if he stopped letting in dumb ass goals he would have more of a chance of silverware

    ReplyDelete
  48. agreed how many times in the last 3 years have we dominated a game for the first half hour ...then that team takes a shot at goal and scores.thats just not coincidence

    ReplyDelete
  49. Because he is a hell of a lot better even now then what they have...

    ReplyDelete
  50. I hear there is a goalkeeper in Lithuania that's going for a tenner that is BR's biggest fan he will be the one!

    ReplyDelete
  51.  swapping hin for walcott would be excellent business a younger player on less wages...granted hes not a goalie but reainas only a goalie when it suits him

    ReplyDelete
  52. ha ha arsenal wont pay 10 million for him he is a hungry old man if they wont give walcott 100k a week u really think he is going to buy a 30year old keeper lies and more lies

    ReplyDelete
  53. Please Rodgers should let reina go,reina time has past he has nothing to offer any more please our club management should collect the money and let reina leave after all a better player like Kuyt and Maxi also Bellamy left us talk less of reina bye bye if he decide to leave please they should open the door for him (reina)to pass out bye.

    ReplyDelete
  54.  man im still gobsmacked hes on 120g a week ...just what are the bean counters at Liverpool doing ...man the club is just hemorrhaging wages ...id have thought 60 to 80 tops for Reina and thats being generou the club has to get a grip or it will go under CASH IS KING in buisness

    ReplyDelete
  55. or we could sell allen put pepe in midfield i,am sure he would be a better tackler and i know for a fact he would create/score more goals

    ReplyDelete
  56. if im honest it was wishful thinking on my part

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes he is .I have believe he will be better than Hart and be England's no 1 if he comes to LFC . Birmingham city have had several quality keepers over the last few years and there goalkeeping coach rates Butland streets ahead of them all .

    ReplyDelete
  58. If Reina went, i'd want Scezney (if that's how you spell it), or another proven goalkeeper, e.g. Rui Patricio, Adler, Mandanda, Sirigu, Forster (maybe?). And i'd prefer it if Rodgers waited until the summer until we signed a 'goalkeeper for the future' 'cause lets not forget we have Gulacsi

    ReplyDelete
  59. what a 30 year old keeper instead of a 29 year old one they tried to sign last year, also if they tried to sign him do you not think they knew what wages he was on

    ReplyDelete
  60. ba talks broke down cos he wants 5million in his arse pocket just to sign dont want him at liverpool cos its just about money with him and walcott was all tied up but fsg would not pay a signing on fee and agents fees as for reina let him go

    ReplyDelete
  61. off topic but Gerrard has now got 4 goals and 6 assists which means he's involved in a third of our goals in the league.
    Don't quite think he's finished yet :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. It's pretty evident that Pepe Reina no longer wants to be Liverpool's no 1 keeper. His negative body language says everything. Let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  63. For £20 million then i would sell him. He hasn't been the same for the last 2 seasons

    ReplyDelete
  64. been bangin this drum 4 acouple of seasons now we would be lucky to get 5 million for reina if arsenal want him and we fancy walcott who there goin to lose in the summer for nothing swop deal now ? belive me reina was finished as a top keeper 2 years ago .great news .bloody hell what am i goin to post about now? well theres aways brenda

    ReplyDelete
  65.  Tell me this....when Alonso was put up for sale originally who came in for him and what was the highest bid ???

    ReplyDelete
  66. Rodgers has lost his mind if he thinks of replacing Reina, a world renowned goalkeeper for a young inexperienced jack butland or brad jones...

what the f**k is happening to our team, losing top talents and replacing them with british droll and mediocrity... starting to really sicken me....

losing mascherano, alonso, torres, kuyt and now reina... and bringing in players like downing, henderson, charlie adam, borini etc.... it is sending our club backwards, its time people started realising that it is not the 80s anymore, they need to spend money in order to compete.....

really worried for our club at the minute

    ReplyDelete
  67. no rodgers has not lost his mind just that reina lost his edge about 2 seasons ago if wenger wants him i would say hes the one who has lost his mind

    ReplyDelete
  68. Window doesn't open till 2nd Jan.... So it would need to be tomorrow night.... lol

    ReplyDelete
  69. The reason Pepe and our team have not been consistant over last 4 seasons and a half is because there is no real class or quality competition for places, the squad we have is weak and we have more average players at club than Class and World Class players. The only position at club we are strong and have quality competition for places is at Right Full back: Johnson, Kelly and Wisdom.

If Reina has bad game he starts, If skrtel or Agger have bad game they play next game as Carragher is three years past his best. Great, Loyal servant but he should be nowhere near the first team, Coates is Average at best and his lack of pace in the fastest league in world is huge flaw. Enrique is class left back but he has no real competition for his place and that is his performance levels deterriated half way through last season.

Gerrard is still class, but should play ahead of Allen every time in deeper role besides Lucas. Lucas has no real competition for his place as he is only person at club who gets stuck in and battles for the ball in centre of park. But he has no competition for his position.

Reina is still world class, but he has seen the decline over the last four and a half seasons and he has had no competition for his place and plays a good game once every 4 games.

So i think B Rodgers should swap Reina with Walcott, Arsenal need experienced Goalkeeper. We need youth pace and goals.

Before i was not favouring the idea of sturridge, walcott or ince.

But if B Rodgers could swap Reina for Walcott and Bring Butland in from Birmingham for £5-£7M with Sturridge.

An Attacking Trio of  Sturridge  Walcott   Suarez would cause teams nightmares and would score and create many goals also. And the pace, speed of Walcott and Sturridge would stretch teams.

And then Suso Borini Sterling could the back up attacking line up to Sturridge  Walcott  Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  70. swap Reina for Walcott

    ReplyDelete
  71. 20 mill for spains no 4 err no i dont think so .the way he performed over the last two seasons be lucky to get a fortnight in benidorm 4 him.

    ReplyDelete
  72. anyway to all my fellow posters 2013 and the transfare window is nearly here.best wishes and a reina free new year!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lol he is still worth something though!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'll drink to that!!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  75. I hate to say this but Reina would definitely help strengthen the arse IMO, but for me his heart has hardly been in it for us since Rafa left & of all our players since that period, he has been the most frustrating.

Should have left a few seasons ago & maybe even he himself would agree....but £120,000 a week for letting us down on countless occasions arguably assisting in our downfall is just shocking, that is a lot of money for someone who certainly has not earned it...

10mil to arse would be a good deal for both parties, sure we might well see an improved Reina once he goes but if his heart isn't in it at LFC....& he cannot be relied upon for any kind of consistency....then its a no brainer in my book, he has to be replaced.

    ReplyDelete
  76. no we need joe cole he will show them how to screw a club good and proper

    ReplyDelete
  77. I really do not like Mark Lawrenson, It seems most of his comments are veiled attacks at Liverpool. BTW, how can we get rid of our goalkeeper mid season without ready made replacement and please don't say Jones.

    ReplyDelete
  78.  i think ba just wants a mega bucks contract soon as gets it hell do F*CK ALL

    ReplyDelete
  79. I agree, Butland isnt just yet, I would still sign him though, but loan him out for a few years, or have as a number 2. He looks like he could be great. Reina has not been up to it of late, and needs a push, Butland will provide that. For too long Reina has had the no1 spot to himself, this will give him a reason to step his game up. If he doesn`t then we will at least have a good no2 to step in.

Butland is very young for a keeper, and that means mistakes, at smaller clubs you can get away with it, but how many would our fans let him make before saying he aint good enough? could kill him as a player if he is rushed too soon.

    ReplyDelete
  80. If Wenger wanted him, I`d do a swap for Walcott with 4mil cash so we could buy Butland. No Walcott no deal

    ReplyDelete
  81. What annoys me is players who dont play in the first team yet celebrate there teams win (spain) like they made it happen, it is just a personal thing, but I think if that was me, I`d be embrassed to even be on the winning bus. Where is the drive and ambition to be the one playing in the first team

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ince has done well, why don`t you want him? He looks the part, yes not in the prem, but he really couldn`t have done much more.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think he does, but prob due to his knee problem. I`m guessing he knows his future will always be in doubt so his main aim is as much money asap as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I say let him go,has been indifferent for last couple of season's and is certainly not worth 120k a week, especially if we could get Walcott or Scezney as part of the deal.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Just what I was thinking!! Reina for Walcott plus £££££!!!

Mark Lawrenson astounds me, why the hell is an ex red recommending Liverpool players to Arsenal????

    ReplyDelete
  86. Lolalola! I actually prefer the other keeper Ross Turnbull!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Walcott plus 10 mill! See just how desperate Arsenal is!
Then buy Butland and still have some left over to use on another 1 or 2 strikers!
Also we need to look at our defense! Stoke and Villa games prove our back line is fragile!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Liverpool fans to my surprise are so ignorant and wishful thinking. Arsenal won't pay more than 5 mil for him and anyway they don't need him. Walcott plus 10 mil? Don't make me laugh! Reina plus 10 mil for Walcott may not even be enough. Also they have a wage structure that they wouldn't even break for RVP. This article is clearly a low quality cut and paste and fabricate stuf. And you believe it. Everyday one is born but all become Liverpool fans.

    ReplyDelete
  89. That 20 ml offer was made when Arsenal had no proper keepers. Now byuing Reina means putting Szczesny on the bench. That would be crazy. Wenger rates Szczesny very highly.   Arsenal need a reliable backup, that's it.  Reina does not fit here.  In 2010 Arsenal fans would be over the moon with Reina, now a No 1 keeper is the least of their concerns.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Why on earth would Wenger want Reina now when he has Szczesny? Wenger needs a reliable 3-4 million backup.  He could offer 4 ml for Reaina now but Pepe won't agree to sit on the bench.  Back in 2010 Arsenal did want Reina, that was when the choice was between Almunia and Fabianski. Now they have a top keeper, who is young and very loyal to the club. He is there for many years to come.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Jones versus Reina... do you really believe these goalkeepers are at the same level?

    ReplyDelete
  92. The most Wenger can offer now is £3-4 ml and the chance to challenge SZCZesny for No 1. This effectively means the bench. Liverpool fans do not realise that the 20 ml offer was made when Arsenal was in a desperate situation re their keepers. Now they have Szczesny who is a hotter property now than Reina due to his age. No 1 keeper is not a priority for Arsenal at all. tey need a backup. And 10-15 ml for a keeper - that was one in a lifetime offer , Arsenal normally never pays that kind osf money for keepers, not even close.  Arsenal record transfer was about 16 ml -hthat was the best money they have ever paid for a player, never mind a goalkeeper..

    ReplyDelete
  93. You sniffing petrol?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Where is the evidence of a player who does not respect the heritage of LFC? Au contraire mon frere. Where the hell is the respect for our top players?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Jones has been as good or better everytime he has played. For the last 2 season Reina could not be classed as any better than Jones. He has also made much worse mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Reina not worth 120k p/w but Jones isn't fit to clean Pepe's boots. This being said, this is a nonesense article.

    ReplyDelete
  97. u r jokin reina has cost us big time. near post nightmare . crap on crosses .has been shockin 4 last 3 seasons. does not make saves sorry mate i was brought up on the flyin pig. clem. and bruceie .this man is fu2kin spent

    ReplyDelete
  98. its tabloid talk, wenger only spends over 10 million on midfielders and strikers. this rumour must be true a few years ago when we had almunia but we now have a decent young keeper who will only get better so wenger wont spend that much on a 30 yo reina to halt Szczesny and we all know how stingy wenger is so it's not likely.

    ReplyDelete
  99. thing is your spending money but on players who dont have a great deal of match winning experience. i'm surprised at some of the money liverpool spent on some of the english players when at that price they could have brought in some good to great european players. personally i think there are a few players who don't deserve to wear the liverpool shirt and be in the first team and should be playing for the likes of Sunderland. hopefully BR will make you a top 4 club again and would be sweet if pool took chelsea's spot.

    ReplyDelete
  100. if he came to arsenal he would be getting 70k at most given his age. no way will arsenal smash their wage structure for reina. fat chance.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Walcott plus 4million. What drugs you on mate?
Why not demand they throw on Wiltshire also.
    Ha ha ha deluded twat

    ReplyDelete
  102. nearly all players are the same but some players try and earn respect and there money others dont give a toss

    ReplyDelete
  103. Fair enough but the key phrase is mid season. Honestly we should of had a young understudy for him by now.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Only by unreasonably high standards has Reina been anything less than outstanding for LFC. To talk of him having a form slump means he's gone from being one of the best 5-10 keepers in the world to just being "very good". It's ridiculous and people have lost all perspective if they think we can do better. Just because a player isn't up to his previous world beating standards does not mean he's suddenly useless and needs to be sold. No one can put together a solid case for Reina being ordinary, not by anyone's standard. Certainly not Wenger's standards who almost certainly rates him very very highly. This is not a case of us considering offloading a poor player for a good price, this is a case of us facing the loss of an established and very capable keeper for money that will barely be representative of what he's worth.
The only reason we let Reina go is if he actually wants to go. In that case it's a simple answer: we don't need or want players at the club who are not interested in staying here to fight and give everything for the shirt. That sounds clichéd but it's clearly important. Rodgers speaks about having a hunger and determination in his players and if Reina doesn't have the hunger to drive LFC from his position in goal then of course he can leave.

    ReplyDelete
  105. NZ's greatest ever footballer9:48 am, January 01, 2013

Reina is still one of the top goalkeepers in the Prem - albeit that he has not been at his best for the last year or so. If he's earning £120k per week then selling him for a profit and bringing in someone like Butland on maybe £40k per week could represent good business in that it would free up funds both in the short term and longer terms for future signings and would provide us with a good long-term prospect in goal given Butland's age. Only issue I would take is that in selling to the Arse we would be selling to a direct rival for 4th spot so we should charge them a premium - an extra couple of mill ideally. All that said, Reina has been brilliant at Liverpool so I wouldn't be unhappy to see him stay either - here's hoping he re-finds the form he had for the first few years!

  106. Nope, the window opened Jan 1st as the other dude said.

  107. You are both crackers if you think Reina is worth Walcott AND £4m!!! Try the other way round.

    ReplyDelete
  108.  Erm, as mentioned above when Arsenal actually bid for Reina in 2010, they needed him, thats not the case any more.
Scczesny is better and a lot younger than Reina, they don't need him any more.

  109.  You've hit the nail on the head there dude. If Reina's happy to sit on the bench and act as motivation for Szczesny AND Liverpool are happy to take £5m max, then the deal might have legs, otherwise, no chance.

    ReplyDelete
  110.  Jeeez, how many times?
Arsenal DON'T need Reina any more, it looks as if its Liverpool who are the desperados; trying to offload a once decent keeper on sky high wages.

  111. jack butland = future england number 1 keeper

    ReplyDelete
  112. He may be younger but to say he is better is crazy talk

    ReplyDelete
  113.  Reina WAS a top keeper, but his form has dived quicker than he can NOW! He is error prone and static, Szczesny is only getting better and better.

Can't see anything in this story, apart from LFC trying to offload the spaniard.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Reina is just unhappy at Anfield I think, if Arsenal buy him I think he will return to the keeper he was, And Szczesny may well be getting better but even now he is far from Reina's quality

    ReplyDelete
  115. Whether Arsenal need him or not is of no concern! The only thing that concerns me is having players at Lfc that want to give their life, soul and blood for the club. If pepe does not feel that way and does not want to fight for his place then bon voyage to the highest bidder!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Absolute pile of shite! It's only muppets like you who are keeping any Reina rumour going and the Butland story is purely Birmingham looking to rouse interest.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Reina was worth a £20m bid in 2010. He maybe worth arguably less now, but Walcott is out of contract very very soon! Logic would indicate that he be sold for much less than his actual value!

    ReplyDelete
  118. is everyone forgetting we already have a very good young keeper in Peter Galusci... He is more than capable between the sticks and is already ours so wouldnt cost a penny!!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I see Jones a bit like the Friedel situation, when Liverpool were trying all the time to find a keeper they never gave him a chance. They then let him go and he went on to be outstanding. I think a heck of a lot of people think Reina is fantastic simply cause he is Spanish.

  120. How about Bernd Leno of Leverkusen?

    ReplyDelete
  121. If we get an able replacement who is likely to be at least as good as Pepe was in his heyday within two years, then I would let Reina go as long as we get 10m plus what we have to pay for the replacement. Very promising young keepers seem to be ter Stegen of Mönchengladbach, Leno of Leverkusen and Butland of Birmingham. If reports are to believed they will be the top keepers in the next ten years (among those already established).

  122. Never heard of Muslera and don't rate Adler that much, but all the others you mention would be excellent replacements.

    ReplyDelete
  123. The kind of squad-rebuilding process we are in should be exactly the right time to bring in a young keeper. Apart from a section of our fans nobody expects us to achieve great things this season or the next anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  124. First of all STOP calling mark lawrenson an LFC legend, i think everyone knows why. Main point i do not think reina has the right attitude, he has when everything is sweet and rosy, the minute things are not right his head seems to go down instead of trying to gee up and encourage the rest of the team which he should be doing as a senior player.

    ReplyDelete
  125. LFC must sell or release out third goal keeper.DONI from Brazil. No need to sell out important players like Pepe Reina.Jack Butland is high potential signing that LFC can make, but he is still young and maybe need time to adapt new team as LFC.Do not too rushing....

    ReplyDelete
  126. Totally Agree. Reina has consistently proved he is unreliable and even past-his-best for almost 3 seasons now. For LFC to be more consistent, Reina has to go.
Jones has surely earned his chance and with Butland possibly coming in, we will certainly be stronger in the goalkeeping department than we are at the moment.

Heres to a consistent future; Without Reina!

  127. hidden agenda? method in his madness? i think he is doin us a favor

    ReplyDelete
  128. you want reina? give us walcott.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I think one of the main reasons that Reina may want a move to Arsenal is that he and Arteta became very good friends when he was at Everton

    ReplyDelete
  130. If Reina was to go, forget Butland, i would prefer us to make a move for
    Asmir Begović.

  131. I, ideally, like a few senior players in the mix with the young players, when it comes to having a lot of young players in the squad but got to be senior players who are able to lead, be consistent and show good form. The likes of Gerrard and Reina have been a let down in that regard. GK is one of those positions I generally like a senior player in, most of the time but if we had senior players (that are doing well) in some of the other positions, than I wouldn't be that concerned about having a young GK. Either way, this team needs a dose of experience, experience that is doing well, regardless of what position. Lots of question marks over these young players that could well take them a long time to answer. So could do with a bit of seniority to set the way. Its a pity our senior players aren't doing that and that is hurting us (not the sole factor but its one of the factors). We need 3/4 players of the senior lot to lead the way.

We don't have anyone that is really being the beacon of consistency out of the older player, to set the example for the younger lot.

Would have loved to have had a player like Cazorla, who is coming into the phase of his career where he is peaking and clearly showing it on the pitch. We lack this kind of peaking player in midfield.

  132. There is little I could add to your post as you are spot on. Agger and Skrtel should be two of the consistent senior players. Were they more consistent, we could bring in a young keeper. And Agger has the right mentality to be a leader, too, at least that's what I think.
