BR to dump Enrique? LFC plan £5m move for 'fearless' attacking full-back...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly tracking England U21 left-back Danny Rose, a Tottenham player who is currently on a season-long loan at Sunderland.

According to The People:

"Rodgers is desperate to sign a left-back as he is not a fan of Spanish star Jose Enrique, who would be sold if Liverpool could find a buyer.

"Rose has impressed the Anfield chief, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will demand a premium fee, believed to be around £5million"

Enrique is in great form for Liverpool at the moment, and it's hard to believe that Rodgers doesn't rate him. However, it should be remembered that the Spaniard struggled to get into the team during the first three-months of the season, which suggests Rodgers doesn't seem him as a long-term option.

It seems rather convenient that Rodgers suddenly starts playing Enrique regularly a month before the January transfer window opens. Perhaps he's just putting him in the shop window? The same could apply to the Henderson and Downing, who've also started a few games recently.

Since arriving at Sunderland, Rose has made 8 starts for Martin O'Neill's team, but after being left on the bench for the 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa recently, the 22 year revealed his frustration with the decision:

"I was disappointed. I don't know why I was left out. I do feel like I'm playing well but I'm back in the team now and I'll do all I can to stay in."

O'Neill is impressed with Rose's performances at Sunderland, and recently praised the his 'fearless' performance against QPR. He told The Chronicle:

"“Danny is playing very strongly for us. He is playing without any fear, which is good, and I think the more players we can have doing that the better.”

Rose's loan agreement has a mid-season break clause that allows him to return to White Hart Lane, or be sold in January.

Worth a bid?

  2. Enrique wasn't playing due to injury.

  3. Absolutely completely wrong. The whole reason Enrique wasn't playing was due to injury. Sometimes you make me wonder Jamie ...!!1

  4. Good idea.....but LFC must keep Jose Enricque

  5. We need good players. They have to stop wasting money.

  6. No, YOU are absolutely, completely wrong. Enrique was not injured for the entire three months between August and November. He was on the bench some of the time, and not in the squad on a couple of other occasions. Also, at the end of September, Rodgers publicly warned both Downing and Enrique to buck their ideas up.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2210148/Brendan-Rodgers-tells-Stewart-Downing-Jose-Enrique-face-Liverpool-exit.html

Perhaps you should get your facts straight next time, eh?

  7. Yes, he was injured for some of the time, not ALL of the time since the start of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes he was on the bench....that much is correct.....but he wasn't fully fit...hence the reason he wasn't picked....it certainly was nothing to do with Rogers not fancying him. Enrique said himself at the time he wasn't fully fit....so when you want the facts come back to me.

  9. Ps. I love the fact you link an article trying to prove your point, but the article clearly states Enrique was and has been struggling with a knee injury. !!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Injury means the players will lose the state of match fitness that they require. Jose had been carrying a small injury which worsened leading him to be out for longer.

Also, the idea that Rodgers would replace Enrique, a player who is coming into form now and playing well in his system with an unproven and unimpressive Danny Rose. He was poor at the Olympics, hasn't stood out for the England U21s and he's now playing pretty average at Sunderland.

    ReplyDelete
  11. So what you're suggesting is that Rodgers had Enrique on the bench regularly even though he wasn't fully fit? Nonsense. If you're on the bench, you're fit to play. If you're not fit, you don't make the squad, and we've seen that countless time under Rodgers (Assaidi/Agger/Gerrard etc)

The fact remains that Rodgers warned Enrique to improve, and if he had an excuse such as not being fully fit, he wouldn't have said that. Plus, at no point this season has Rodgers made any reference to Enrique's alleged lack of fitness. It's just an excuse from him for poor performances.

  12. Stop sniping Coliemac. You've completely missed the point of the article so you have an excuse to snipe. I did not say that BR doesn't rate Enrique -The People stated that. I said that it was 'hard to believe' that Rodgers doesn't fancy him, and I made the general suggestion that perhaps he was putting him in the shop window, which is a possibility.

    Stop twisting my words.

  13. jaime posts random shite on here just to get viewers to go on his page..you have no validity in your arguement every fan here knows why enrique didnt play for the first couple months..why do i even waste my time on here

  14. Ok, if its true witch i doubt, then we should sell Suarez and Skrtel, if we are gonna sell best players then sell those two aswell!! Jose was our best player recently and i enjoyed watching him linking with Suarez upfront and covering defence! I would rather sell Downing and then buy LB!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Stop sniping....you are the one getting your knickers in a twist...!!! I just pointed out the mistakes in your article...which I completely stand behind....you put yourself out there to be shot at...don't shoot the messenger.

  16. I thought he was improving and right now he is playing good, I hope they keep him

  17. Enrique didn't play because he had an injury and loss of form. Rodgers apparently told Downing and Enrique to raise their game. Enrique seems to found his form again and an integral part of the current squad. Rodgers praised Enrique after several games and said he was "Unplayable" after a league game. So it is little bit unfair to say Rodgers is looking to sell Enrique. Danny Rose is not a much better player than Jack Robbinson. So I dont see any point of making a bid for Rose and I also highly doubt Spurs will sell their player to us.

  18. i dont see the reason we wouldnt..over the last 5 or so games in the prem he has been the most consistent performer we have had..i wouldnt mind rose but he would be more of a backup IMO

    ReplyDelete
  19. if rodgers sells enrique in january he wants sacking ,his signings have not improved lfc one bit imo

  20. Rose is kak, robinson is a better player.

  21. You seem to have this strange axe to grind with Enrique. The guy is quality, plain and simple. You'll just embarrass yourself by going on questioning him.

    ReplyDelete
  22. JK do you understand football or are you just a headline whoooore?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Are you blind to the fact, that Enrique has been played as a winger - and that successfully?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jeez, like so many others, you have a serious comprehension problem. What is your point?! I haven't criticised Enrique; I haven't said LFC should sell him? Why don't you READ the article PROPERLY?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Enrique was on the bench as backup, He had a knee problem that he was having injections for, Enrique himself had reported he was disappointed that he was unable to perform to his best in training and was frustrated he could not impress the boss........ if anything it looks like this knee problem has cleared as his last 3 performances have clearly shown!! Not rocket science, just watch LFC TV and listen to the interviews straight from the players / mangers mouths rather than hear say internet media!!

  28. They must think Dalglish is still manager linking us with anyone English.I love how the article states Rodgers is not a big fan of Enrique. There must be at least three articles on the official site in the last two weeks of Rodgers praising Enrique telling the world how great he is haha.

    ReplyDelete
  29. We won't buy Rose in January because you can't play for 3 clubs in 1 season, he was registered for spurs, Sunderland which makes a move any where else impossible

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jeez talk about getting defensive. Mate admit you were wrong and move on...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Enrique is a poor fullback - average tackling but woeful decision making. The first goal in the fa cup final is all the proof you need. His saving grace was that he got forward. Until we get someone better his desire to go forward and risk taking make him a pretty good wide midfielder - not quite a winger though. If we ever get to a point where we talk about wingbacks again he'd be a perfect fit - but that's not where we are.

That Rodgers is prepared to play Downing as a fullback at times tells you all you need to know about Enrique's defensive abilities.

With all that said, the irony is that this talk crops up when Enrique is in his best form since moving to us.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Perhaps it's te other way ard.. Enrique stays, downing out. Enrique is favored as left wing player now comparatively.. If rise could support him more effectively than downing does, then bye bye downing

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nice job of starting rumors while trying to look like you're "just asking" a question... trash journalism..

    ReplyDelete
  34. please read carefully, at no point JK is suggesting at JE should be sold...all he did was pull out an article on The People and comments...

No point getting yourself ban on commenting over that :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. this most be a joke, jack is more far better than Rose please give this young man chance to play

    ReplyDelete
  36. Are you for real? This story seems to be quite far fetched. Enrique is quite versatille, him and Suarez seemed to have formed an understanding between them. Also, he would have a few goals to his name if it wasnt incorrectly ruled out, on more than one occasion. Unless this descision is based on personal reasons this is seems fabricated.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jimmy2... You're absolutely right. Enrique makes awful decisions, lacks composure and has woeful passing. Rose is young and will undoubtedly improve but I don't rate him either. There are better full backs in the Championship - hell there are better strikers, wingers....

    ReplyDelete
  38. Between Enrique and Rose, give me Enrique any day.
It's just the agent of Rose talking up.. Look it says in the last line of the article!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Enrique is not going anywhere. Excellent fullback and has also now shown that he is brilliant playing out wide in the front three.

Why on earth would we want to get rid of him? Rodgers has also praised him since coming back from his lengthy injury so all these rumours are rubbish.

  40. I am thinking that Liverpool should look to sell all their injured players. This will provide great motivation to other would-be injured players to get off their crutches and put a shift in.

enrique you will never walk alone

  45. I think your right about downing, I think he is being put in the shop window but enrique and henderson are gonna be there for a while? look at lucas! no one in liverpools history was ever laughed at and ridiculed more than lucas was when he first came here! people were asking was he brazilian! but look at him now! thats why henderson will be kept on, just to see if BR can get anymore out of a player who looks a little out of his depth? i'd say that enrique has a future at liverpool even if it becomes a situation where he is a back up player. My problem with all this is that by playing downing he is keeping assiaide out. Why buy the lad not to play him? playing downing will not boost his value! you're just keeping him match fit for another side!!! we have too much dead wood at liverpool that need to be moved on and until the likes of cole, henderson, downing, carroll, etc etc are moved on we are never going to be able to move on....

    ReplyDelete
  46. BR is dumping Enrique from the left back position because he's been having man of the match performances as a left winger and that's where he will continuing playing. So a new left back won't be for replacing Enrique, it is to allow Glen to play on the right and not as a make shift left back. Downing is a liability in that position looking at the amount of times he has been caught out.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jordi Alba is a similar fullback and Barca don't seem to mind too much

    ReplyDelete
  48. Apart from injury he was clearly struggling for form and fitness at the start and with Rodgers you only play if you deserve too. There is no way Rodgers would want to sell him now in the form he is in.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jaime doesn't like to watch LFC tv, its his competition after all.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Only Jose Enricque and Luis Suarez is good signing by K.Daglish, others? Only is rubbish who comes with crazy salary.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Again there are no direct quotes from anyone. Surely Downing would be the best player to leave and then bring in Rose to be left back and Enrique to play left midfield. That makes more sense to me.
