Deserved? Rodgers now 4th-favourite to be the next PL manager sacked...

As a result of Liverpool's atrocious boxing day defeat to Stoke City, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is now 4th favourite to be the next Premier League manager to receive his marching orders.

According to top bookmakers in the UK, Rodgers is 10-1 fourth favourite for the sack, behind Brian McDermott, Roberto Mancini and Paul Lambert.

I still have faith in Rodgers' long-term vision, but as the manager himself has admitted, football is a results business, and things are looking pretty bleak at the moment:

* Only 6 league wins all season.
* Failed to win 68% of league games under Rodgers.
* 25 points from 19 games, averaging only 1.3 points per game.
* LFC also had 25 points from 19 games under Hodgson, and he got sacked.
* 9 Points worse off than at the same point last season.

For me, the most damning indictment of the season so far is this: West Brom, Stoke and Swansea all have squads that cost significantly less than LFC (!), yet all three are above the club in the table.

The more you think about it, the more frustrating it becomes. One example: Steve Clarke at West Brom - No prior management experience, and miniscule squad value/transfer budget compared to LFC, but after only five months in charge, his team are in Champions League contention, and deserve to be there.

On a man-for-man basis, do any of the three aforementioned teams have better players than Liverpool? No. Clearly, the difference is effective management, and no matter what way you spin it, Rodgers is failing at the moment.

The club is in transition, and Rodgers is having to deal with certain issues that existed before he arrived at Anfield. However, whether it's underwhelming transfer market performance, tactical inflexibility, Blind allegiance to senior players, or gross overpraise of players (due to probable inferiority complex) the manager is also the author of his own destruction at LFC.

Unlike some fans, I never advocate sacking the manager mid-season. I didn't support that under Hodgson or Dalglish, and I'm not going to change now. However, if the Reds fail to win the next two games against QPR and Sunderland, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Rodgers axed by FSG in the new year. John Henry et al have a history of being ruthless with managers when it's warranted. In recent years:

* Sacked Roy Hodgson after only 6 months in charge.
* Sacked Kenny Dalglish after 18 months despite excellent cup runs.
* Sacked Red Sox boss Bobby Valentine in Oct 2012 after less than a year.

If FSG had the balls to mercilessly sack Dalglish - a club legend widely considered to be LFC's greatest ever player, and worshipped and revered by millions of fans across the globe - they won't think twice about dumping Rodgers, a man with absolutely no prior connection to Liverpool FC.

Unlike Hodgson and Dalglish, Rodgers actually has a plan to take Liverpool back to the top, and although the plan is not working right now, there are enough positives to suggest that keeping faith with the manager will yield long-term dividends.

I really hope Rodgers doesn't get sacked, but setting aside my personal feelings on the issue, and being clinically objective, I would understand FSG's mindset if they decided to take that action.

  1. With now nearly to 20 games, LFC still showing unconsistant result of games. Why? Maybe they don't have many option to let only best talent can keep playing for every week.LFC still like to using the players below the best like Downing, Henderson, Joe Cole, Lucas.Others players as Coates, Pacheco and Assaidi never been using very well. They have big potential but why B, Rodgers cannot see it.Lucas have small size pysical and not good when facing team who like playing rugby style.Suso, Sterling and Shelvey still never put the goal. Why? It is about quality the players cannot meet our expectation.Yo yo....Owner of LFC please do not too STINGY about investment for high quality players.STOP YOUR EXPERIMENT AND SOLD THE CLUBS TO THE RIGHT PERSON IF YOU NEVER EXCITED ABOUT LFC AGAIN.......YNWA.

  2. Sack him only if we can get that lunatic we almost signed in the summer.

  3. Compliments to the season Jaimie, all I can say is that Rodgers is clueless.

  4. I think if im honest, he has done poorly, however I think he should be given the Jan window to get in his new striker. We arent playing right, or rather winning games we should with this group, but he does have the basis of a good idea, so I think BR should be given the Jan window to help complete his team. If we sign Sturridge and Ince and still dont improve then I think it is far to say BR isnt working out. It would be a lot of money spent since his arrival, and he would have got the front line he wanted.

I think it would be unfair to sack him before then, a lot of things are good, but it is just the few which are making us lose or draw. Sacking him before he has a chance to fix it, would not really be giving him methods a try.

Who would we get in anyway?

  5. they won,t sack him they love him and his press comments eg money is not the answer(f"ck knows what the question was)i have always been anti rodgers but fsg must take a lot of the blame for hiring him in the 1st place(its like tesco making a trolley boy store manager) he did not have the experience required.stoke was just the latest in a long line of humiliations sorry but if he cannot win the next 2 games hes got to go no ifs no buts, otherwise we will not even be in the europa league next year and thats just a step backwards to far

  6. Give the manager time, Rome wasnt built in a day, also FSG won't sack him, they want to build something with a young manager. The players need a kick up the back side of I'm honest. We couldn't handle set pieces.

  7. I hope that FSG sees the vision Rodgers has laid out. I agree with the shocking fact that Stoke, Swansea, West Brom (and some others) are above us midway through is disastrous. At least we have some inspiring games (Fulham, Wigan, Norwich) but to be honest, we are expected to beat those teams home and away so it's nothing special. I think we have an OK foundation to build on, but looking at someone like Skrtel who has cost us 4-6 points with stupid mistakes, Reina the same it is looking bleak. Our best card from the bench yesterday was an 18 year old. FSG need to back the spending and I hope they will in the summer. I don't expect them to sack Rodgers, that would not send the right signal. We don't want to become the next Chelsea.

  9. The owners are not stingy!!! they have spent more than any other in our history. They may lack knowledge, but I can see there idea. We were never going to win the league with our old methods, the Man citys and Chelseas would always outspend us. They went for a young manager, with different ideas. It was a risk, but fair play for trying it.

Some of us fans have short memories, and the world is not enough. They can spend 100mil in the summer, then next window if they only spend say 12mil there called tight!

  10. If QPR takes a point or three in that game and they took 10 in 19 games, than I think that assassination is better option than sacking...

  11. if by that you mean Van Gaal, I think the boat has sailed on that one. Personally he was always my first choice, as to me he is the best manager in the world still working. He wanted to come to us too, so I don`

  12. We need to as a club to wake up that you need one more then one style of football and player to beat teams in the Premier League! As Roy Evans found out pass and move football will get you so far, then Houllier with his 2 banks of 4 and Rafa with his defensive counter attacking football we need to have 3 teams rolled into one! Rodgers needs to realise he needs a bit of muscle in his team as well we were just bullied out of it last night except for Enrique and Suarez.
Teams in the Premier League are constantly evolving and we are getting left behind.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The interview he gave after yesterday's match against Stoke suggested that he will be tougher on players because for the first time he was very critical of the attitude the players have shown.

The only players seemingly wanting a result yesterday were Suarez (as ever) and Jose Enrique. Gerrard tried his best but penalty aside, he had an off day. Sterling and Henderson showed some ambition when they came on but I still expected a little bit more given that we were losing and that they had fresh legs.

Since being sent off against Man.UTD, Shelvey has taken that aggressiveness out of his play and his performances have become flat. Yesterday he was largely anonymous in what was, in many ways, a perfect physical game for him.

Agger and Skrtel are not convincing me at all. Sure they might score, but they have been shaky all season and under Rodgers, our defence has become worse. If there is an area we have definitely regressed under Rodgers, it's the defence and I hope we fix this soon because yesterday, all three goals, as Rodgers admitted, were definitely avoidable. Unfortunately, we are not scoring enough to compensate for our terrible defence, meaning we are some 20 points behind Man.UTD. And while I'm mentioning Man.UTD, if only our players play with the same intensity and willingness to get a result!!!! :@ :@ Only Suarez and Enrique want to win it seems! :@ :@

  14. what plan has rogers got ...overpaying for players then not using them...i see no plan...we are not barcelona...stoke outplayed us tactically and we had no answer.....its okay spouting on about space and possession but if you cant implement it and get the players to buy into it its meaningless...we are going backwards from kenny...and the way this guy has treated certain players is a disgrace...no wonder there heads are down ...hes blasting the players but this idiot is giving then the tactics ( passing around on the edge of your own box ) wow thats some tactic dump this chump and get someone in charge who can motivate international players and use then to there best ability.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, him.. I know it's a long shot- but he is the only better option I see. My first choice too, and you are absolutely right about players coming- everybody knows he's got the plan, even without 120 pages...

  16. Reading saw the light after 6 months and sacked the clueless fool, guess what mugs WON'T see the light until he and FSG set us back even more years and millions and millions of more pounds wasted!?.

Stop putting up with mediocrity! Rodgers OUT! FSG OUT!.

  17. I'm almost in the chorus of those ready to fire him. I didn't like the choice to begin with though. Swansea had a style that wasn't LFC's style of play, and was barely a top half of the tables team. We're currently 10th place, 8 points out of 3rd, and the transfer window is coming , that's not too bad for mid-season, but not great. Here's my logic for NOT firing him yet.

    1) FSG sandbagged him during the summer transfer window. Apparently he had no scouting, and had to rely on players he'd previously looked at. Some like Suso, great picks. Some aren't. Plus a transfer budget being weighed down by salaries like Andy Carroll's.

    2) Injuries aren't his fault. The team plays better when Lucas is on the field. He wasn't for the majority of the season so far, and is still looking to find his form again after injuries. If Lucas were the only injury, that would be one thing. But he wasn't.

    3) Who would you replace him with? The choice that would have been somewhat obvious like 3 months ago (Rafa Benitez) isn't an option, Pep G doesn't seem interested in any coaching positions at the moment, Chelsea's most current cast-off isn't exactly an improvement, and any other top-flight proven coaches that you would actually want are already in other positions. If you could get someone like Pep, I'd bring him in, in a second. That's an upgrade. Anything less than an upgrade though, not worth interrupting the rebuilding.

    4) You'd only be slowing the recovery. King Kenny did wonders with the team after the Roy experiment, but it still wasn't the result we needed. No matter who comes in now, there's going to be rebuilding. The defense is weak. Johnson isn't a quality player, Agger and Skrtel are prone to mistakes, and while I personally like Jose Enrique, he's only recently been showing up, and still is far from the perfect solution back there. But then again, who else do we have? Carragher is a legend, but past his prime. And that's the best option on the bench. Plus, you'd still need a guy to put the ball in the net who can play with Suarez, which we don't really have, yet. And there's no depth to any position (again, see what happens when Lucas gets injured.)

    5) Thanks to BR, the future is looking bright. The younger players getting starts on the first team have made young players want to come to LFC. The academy is booming! And that's because BR is willing to give them a shot.

There's a lot of reasons to show BR the door right now, but those 5 above, to me anyway, trump them all!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Agreed. Van Gaal was my first choice too (I wrote about it at the time), and one thing's for sure, if he was in charge, there would be none of this constant player ego massage. He'd rule with an iron fist, and that's what the club needs in a manager.

I'm not advocating his return by any means (!), but Benitez's 'continuous improvement' approach is close to the attitude required at LFC. No matter what the result, Benitez was never satisfied, and he always pushed for more. You certainly wouldn't hear him endlessly calling players 'oustanding' and terrific' after every single game.

  20. Looking at the situation without tinted specks, Stoke would beat us 9 out of 10 games, we have been set back years, Brendon is a fool if he thinks Ince ad Stouridge will change things much, only a couple of Class forwards will do, too much change too soon by Owners who know nothing of football and an inexperienced Manager who thinks systems can make up for class.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ditto, I'm not a fan of mid-season sacking. Rodgers may have a long term plan but in the short term, he has to show some flexibility with his tactics. Sooner or later, in the short term, he has got to start tipping the balance more towards points and less towards getting the team to adapt to his main playing style. Of course, its possible to get both but at the moment, its just not working out anywhere well enough consistently to justify not conjuring up plan B style/tactics more. At least got to sacrifice/change some of his plan A tactics for the short term at least.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Brendon is beginning to sound like Brendon Bull--it - please let me be wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Definitely agree that it's unfair to sack Rodgers now. However, if he buys Sturridge, then he could be signing his own death warrant. Obviously, we all hope he works out, but it's a lot of money upon which to gamble your job, and if it goes wrong, Rodgers will only have himself to blame.

  27. He only just signed up to be holland manager, so I dont think he would leave that post so soon. We missed the trick on him.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Didn't know that, so we hope BR starts thinking outside of the box...

    ReplyDelete
  29. As much as I'm not impressed by Rodgers, I'm loath we sack yet another manager so soon.
Definitely not for sacking him mid season.
We have no guarantee the next appointment would be any better.

Ultimately our problem stems from our leadership (FSG) and their limited knowledge of football.
The bottom line for me is this,

Our owners have been sold a vision on how to play a certain style of football without fully understanding how difficult it will be to implement this 'style' in the EPL.

In opting for 'tiki-taka' we could not have set ourselves a harder task.
Its an incredibly difficult style to master and one that shouldn't have been undertaken by a club like ours, still recovering from years of mismanagement.

It just seems to me this has not been very well thought out or explained to our owners.

In short were over-reaching, we have neither the financial resources or managerial nous to implement this successfully.

Our management needs to sit down and rethink our strategy.
There are easier ways for us to be competitive in the short to medium term.
Tiki-taka should be the final evolution of a process, not the staring point.

  30. Yeah I agree, He would have not put up with anything bad, the man is awesome. I was gutted when we didn`t get him.

That is true, you could score 5 goals and Benitez would still find the one error we made and point it out. He was all about aiming for perfection. I think maybe you need the middle ground, Benitez was maybe too harsh, and demotivating, BR is too soft and gives false ideas of greatness.

The only thing I will say, is maybe he just says that for the cameras, and behind closed doors, goes mental at them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. True, and it is a gamble. Personally I think Sturridge will do ok, but as he doesnt play often, he may need time to get up to speed again. This would be fine if we were strong and flying, but as right now we need someone who will make a massive difference from day 1, it is a big risk by BR.

I think it is pretty sure his job will rest on how the players he signs this window do. If he signs Ince too and Ince score loads, and we get fourth, yet Sturridge does pants, the Sturridge deal and borini etc will be over looked.

Someone has to step up tho, if they don`t, I can`t see him being here in May.

    ReplyDelete
  32. half way through the season and we are on 25pts, if we have the same second half we will make 50 pts 2 less than last season. so we will probably finish 9-10th. scary thought!

    ReplyDelete
  33. sturridge wouldn't have made a jot of difference if he played yesterday...we are getting overrun in midfield and defense ....playing 433 with your fullbacks up the pitch is leaving us exposed .....dump rogers .....liverpool will never be a 433 team

    ReplyDelete
  34. He doing fine, we are scoring more than last season with ONE striker. You can't solve all your problems in one window. And he isn't a dieing dog either.... In the summer all our experience players left we still haven't replaced them because it takes time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That is what a 433 needs! You need an Essien or a Ya Ya Toure to bring the ball forward allowing your front 3 to start their runs forward. That player needs the strength to hold onto the ball but push forward as well. The front 3 need to get a head of speed up first before they receive it in front of them to run onto. How many times as Sterling really showed his speed forward with the ball? He receives it to late and has to beat the player from a standing start.

    ReplyDelete
  36. yeah in July matey. I might be wrong, but I think he is now out of bounds for a few years. It was a real shame, as like I said, I can`t think of a single manager who is as good right now. He performed in different countries, at both top level and lower, always won stuff. Turned teams around and, more importantly openly said he wanted to manage us. Still can`t cry over spillt milk.

If BR does go, There isn`t many around I would want. Pep could be good, but he has only managed one team. Until he does it in a few places we wont know if he was great, or his team was great.

Then you got Benitez, but even though I think he is awesome, I don`t think it makes sense to go back. We didn`t win the league with him before in 6 years of trying, so can`t see why it would be different know.

Jose, I just can`t see coming to us while we are struggling. He seems to only take teams who might win there league anyway, and have pot loads of cash, to make his CV look better, by adding titles. Kinda like a player who joins a winning club, to add medals to his record.

A few of the german coaches look good, but they seem very loyal to german teams.

Other than that I can`t see any non-risk options.

    ReplyDelete
  37. whats funny jase is he makes out hes had no money.....hang on allen borini assadi 30m & sahin 70g a week ....sturridge & ince potentially 20m .....thats more than some prem teams cost.....perhaps if kenny or hodgson had a 180 page dossier on bullsh@t they would still be in a job

  38. Maybe Davidk you will change your tune and see the light after QPR beat us, and i genuinely would love to be wrong about QPR beating us, but with this bunch of lilly livered spineless chokers and serial letdown merchants, the odds are very much in the favour of another epic flop, do not for one moment think that is beneath this bunch of weasels, they couldnt care less, their getting their nice hefty wages, they are at Liverpool now and they've 'made it', no need to try any more, mediocrity is not only welcomes but rewarded, you can add Sterling to that list now, they only need to give one half decent performance every 4-5 games and that keeps them on easy street.

Totally DISGUSTED with each and every member of that first team playing staff and the managerial staff, clueless out of their depth morons 'managing' spineless losers, the utter shame of this being Liverpool FC.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don`t think it is fair to say we will never be a 433 team, all teams can be, all teams change. It might not be working right now, but that doesn`t mean it wont.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I kinda agree with you Chan. I get his playing style idea, but think it might be better to try and ease it in over a few years. Use a system which works for us more right now, so we can win more, and bring in bits and bobs from his system in time. Keep trying it in training, get the team more used to it, get the players in first etc.

  41. a manager like Rodgers will not attract top players like a van gaal or benitez or even harry r can.
but all the time with owners like we have its never going top happen.
anyone who calls it soccer for starters, alarm bells are ringing!!
we really are clueless in every part of the club now, I cant see where its going or the stadium for that matter.
the owners and manager should be judged come 1st of febuary, the season is proper f##ked regardless how many points it is to 4th, its almpst as many to relegation

  45. are you on crack...doing fine we have been beat 3-1 in 2 of our last 3 games .....not just the score but the way we got beat

    ReplyDelete
  46. My worry is we wont win at QPR, and BR will be gone. We will then spend most of jan finding a new manager, and again be back at square one. No real signings, or not that the new manager might want.

That is my only issue with FSG, they are almost to honest with sacking then finding new managers. Spurs sacked Redknapp and had there replacement hired that night. Clearly before getting rid of Redknapp they found who they wanted. It may seem a little beind your back, but in football time waits for no one.

    ReplyDelete
  47. No, just a genuine fan, I miss the times were we won loads of games none stop, champions league. BUT I know it will take time. I don't call for managers heads I give them time. He doing fine. He got us to the knockout of Europa even though we had the hardest group. He has only brought in 3 players. In the summer FSG will loosen the strings.... So Rodgers has more to spend. Give it time.... Look at how long SAF had before he went to the top.

  50. It's simples, we have players that can NOT score in a brothel!! Soo many chances created AND MISSSED- same old story! Our defence is generally strong so lets concentrate on the offensive side of our game, its the most frustrating 90+4mins of my weekly life watching failure after failure in front of goal. BR fixes this and we will all be singing his praises. Fans are fickle.. fickle for life YNWA! :-)
PS. fsg will change nothing this year. BR needs to stop using the words excellent and fantastic untill the team deserve it, the perception of a high standard is very low currently and majority of the players are to blame!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Is our current predicament due to

    1. Lack of investment? a number of teams above us have invested much less

    2. Club being in transition? Tottenham also have a new manager who has a set idea of how the game should be played, have lost one of their best players from last season - Modrid, and not out of choice

    3. Bad players (individually, our starting 11 is more quality than West Brom, Stoke, Everton) again all teams with more points

But I look to the future - what does the future hold?

I 100% buy into Roger's long term vision of where we need to get to as a team, and our eventual style of play. But Rome was not built in a day, and it will take time.

As we build, does Rogers compromise his principles and depending on the opponent, put out a team and tactics that can win THAT game, or play with the same tactics week in, week out? The evidence is the latter, and teams now always know how we will be setup -- this attitude that we need not worry about the opposing team's style of play, just play our pretty football -- does not work. The table tells the bitter truth. Maybe if you are Barcelona who have been built to play before the players can walk but not the squad we have.

So what does the future hold? I fear mid-table at best for the next couple seasons, by which time, IF FSG stick by Rogers, we will have a very different squad aiming for 4th place. At best, we become like the Arsenal of a few seasons ago and score more goals than we concede.

The problem of course is everyone else will improve. Steve Clarke's West Brom will add even better players and more style, so will Tottenham, and maybe even Everton. Chelsea, ManC and ManU always improve.

Ok, enough ranting ... the only important question is - what is best for LFC, short term and long term? Rogers out? I say no - definitely not yet - he was head-hunted by FSG with their eyes wide open, and he was not fully backed in the transfer window. It would be harsh. Give it to the end of the season and let's take assess things then and see the direction the club is moving in, and where that looks to take us.

Until then, hope for better days but be prepared for frustrating days !

  52. spot on David he should have evolved slowly while at the same time playing to the strength of the squad but the guys an egomaniac who cant man manage players ...did it never occur to him that Carroll may come back...or we may not be able to sell hendo ( still baffled why he tried to swap for demsy when he is twice the player Allen is ) in short he cant cut it he hasn't the skill set to implement the system or authority...when will clubs learn that these one season wonders never work

    ReplyDelete
  53. Here the thing.... We over paid for players which don't suit Rodgers style let him bring his own players in.... Judge him next season when he had time with the team.

  54. It would be stupid to sack Rodgers, remember Ferguson took nearly two seasons to turn Man Utd into a top team, he almost achieved relegation in his first season.

    ReplyDelete
  55. rogers paid 15m for allen who is on the bench how figure

    ReplyDelete
  56. Everyone on here seems to want Rodgers gone which judging by results is fair enough but I would suggest that the whole first team squad should get themselves a copy of ronnie whelans autobiography and find out what real Liverpool players are like , and a fascinating incite into the club we all love so dearly Bcoz right now our first team has very little bottle and realistically we haven't had that many bad injuries so we can't really use that for an excuse , if only we had a few of the old guys back

  58. Rodgers still has my support as i think he has done good job but i'm not too happy with his transfers, none of his signings has set the world alight, only Allen has proven to be decent signing but even he hasn't been as influential as he should have been.
I don't understand this obsession of ours to sign British players for inflated prices and now we are going to sign Sturridge too and none of these players have done well.
Rightnow Spain is the place to find bargains and that's where Rodgers need to look at.

    ReplyDelete
  59. A 433 needs 3 epic mid players, of which we have none really. Lucas has done well, but Masch did that role better. Alsono is better than Allen, and Gerrard of old was better than now. WE need the three mids to be more like our old three mids. We got a crazy amount of mid players too, just none of them are up to what is needed for a 433. This I could understand as it is a new system, but BR spent money on Sahin, which imo was a waste of cash. Allen aint as bad as people say, but isn`t that great either.

So far my worry with BR is the players he signs. None seem good enough. That might be ok if we werent still paying large money for them. The defenders are fine imo, I know we ship goals, but that is down to other things.

Looking at our team now, we only have a few top players, and so far none of BR`s signings have made us any better. Bellamy, Maxi and Kuyt did a job for us, they scored goals, not loads but they scored.

  60. He on the bench because of injury and he tired.... After playing double so far this season than last.

    ReplyDelete
  61. That's what I've been saying since Day One. Rogers is simply out of his league.
He must be dumped now or LFC will son be fighting relegation! Amazing thought you think? Just look at how WBA, Aston Villa and now Stoke have made this once great team look so deservedly pathetic!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Problem is yes they have spent but 13 players left in the summer and only 4 came in! Altogether 26 players have left from youth team to first team players with only 16 players coming in since Jan 11. Money has been spent but at the same time the wage bill has been slashed and players that have left have not been replaced. To many of our older and older looking reserves have been allowed to leave like Silva, Amoo and Eccleston leaving us with light weight reserves in Suso, Morgan and Yesil who might have the skill but are lacking physical presence needed in the Premier League.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I like BR as a man, but he's got no plan B. The players we have do not suit the style of play he wants. Suarez is far too detached, with inadequate midfield support. Sturridge and Ince will help with increased pace, although they lack physicality. I can't see BR lasting until the end of the season unless the January purchases play out of their socks. Stevie G requires a rest; but there is no replacement in the squad. I not sure BR has enough experience to manage a top team. KD had more out of the players, and a stronger squad.

    ReplyDelete
  64. While I do agree he shouldn`t be sacked right now. In point 1, you say he signed Suso, he didn`t. The other bit about young players, is that under previous managers the young players weren`t ready. Rafa gave us this young crop, and until we get hindsight we wont know if BR is playing them to much to soon and killing off what could be amazing talent.

For me experience wins you things, not youth. It is great to have good young players coming up, but for me we should be signing experienced players not young ones. Let the academy make the young stars for free, and spend our money on proven top players, that way you get a mix, and in the long run it is cheaper. Look at Van Persie, he would have been to old for us, yet is prob the reason Man Utd will win the league this year.

Sign only the best, older (not super old just not 20 who is still a work in progress) players. Only sign the younger ones if they are cheap.

I see no logic in sending 15mil plus on a possible talent, that isnt moneyball, nor wise. So many young players never make it, how much money will we have wasted by the time one of them does work out? prob enough to have brought a team like Man Cities.

  65. history lesson norman my boy .vat 69 breath was appointed in 86 and won his 1st trophy when they beat palace in 1990 in the fa cup and was on the verge of the sack all that season. so should we give brenda the same time as taggart Mmmm NO

    ReplyDelete
  66. Slag Brendan off if you want, but our first team (Minus Suarez) needs to re think its attitude. They walked around last night a lot of the time, against one of the fittest and most physical teams in the league. Poor form may afflict players at different times, but running hard and getting the faces of your opponent is possible every game. When players gave it away, they threw their hands up and turned away instead of harrassing Stoke and forcing them to go backwards. All decent teams start with a top work ethic and then play attractive football, because with out the ball you can do f*** all!

  67. sahin and assaidi are injured

    ReplyDelete
  68. yep lets book 2 flights one way to spain one for brenda and one for that useless lump we have between the sticks

    ReplyDelete
  69. A lot of those who left tho, were dross. We had too many playing stuff not doing anything. The wage bill needed slashing. My issue is with the quality of the first 11. That isnt good enough, we should focus on improving that first.

    ReplyDelete
  70. For once I can agree with somebody that will lick Benitez' poo. The players are out of their depth to play tika taka. Skrtel looks like rudolf the red nose reindeer. Reina looks like one of those guys holding up a stop sign for school children to cross the road and Johnson has show time and time again that he is great at going forward but utter rubbish when it comes to defending. Shelvey is Gerrard in the making but still wet behind the ears. Does Lucas even have the gut to fit into this system?

Clearly Rodgers has a huge task ahead of him to fulfill tika taka but let's face it, he has had one transfer window with the January window coming up. After the summer if we have not shown that his style of tiki taka is improving then let's start questioning the man. FSG would be utterly f*up to sack Rodgers now and luckily they are not that dumb. They will give Rodgers time unless the wheels completely fall off then cart he is going nowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  71. whats funny is he tried to get rid of Henderson but has realized hes better than sahin and Allen ....so hes making crap up about resting players .....the guy hasn't a clue about his own players remember he bought assadi told us he was a world beater yet doesn't play him....everything he does or says is a contradiction as the saying goes to be a good lier you need a good memory rogers has neither

    ReplyDelete
  72. Jaime, I know you're trying to create traffic and discussion, but how on earth can you advocate, or even contemplate, sacking Rodgers. Your topics encourage the most fickle of fans to dump on Rodgers and FSG. Grant it, constructive discussion and criticism are all well and good when logical points are argued. But some of your followers....seriously.

The biggest mistake we made was obviously not signing another striker. Imagine how many more points we'd have had if we had more attacking options. United, for all the shit football they play, can always throw on Hernandez or Wellbeck to get them a goal. And that's besides having two world-class strikers on the pitch already. Signings like Borini and Assaidi will need time. I remember a certain Ronaldo, a certain Modric, a certain Evra who were absolutely crap their first year in the PL.

Rodgers is building a team and style of play he sees as the long-term future for LFC. He's using lots of talented youngsters, who will show inconsistency. We need to give him time and support. What on earth is the point of sacking a manager every season? FSG's plan was always to hire a young, progressive manager to build a long-term future for Liverpool. I for one agree with that concept and much prefer it to the short-term model of Chelsea and City, which requires hundreds of millions to sustain and has no basis for the future.

I said from the start that this season would be about re-building. No chance of top 4. Next season, with a few signings in the bag, we can start dreaming of top 4 again. And please, anybody comparing Liverpool to Stoke, Swansea and West Brom.....first of all, they had settled squads and made a couple of good additions in the summer. No overhaul of personnel or style. And i'm willing to place a bet with anyone on here that we finish above these team come the end of the season :)

  73. no rogers needs to gagged and bound and put in a crate to the congo

    ReplyDelete
  74. We had third best defense last year in the league. Man City did bid for both Skrtel-Agger in the summer which LFC rejected although BR did want Agger to go in search of funds, it was quite evident. BR is solely responsible for destroying the world class defense we had last season where despite our poor midfield and attack, we defended very well and kept more than few clean sheets. I understand he has new style of playing football which may leak goals here and there but this season we have conceded goals for fun. Can someone tell me what BR has ever done anything to merit LFC job? The way I see, Swansea is playing even better than last season and with same philosophy without the coaching of BR. Does BR actually think he can turn Allen into Xavi and himself into Pep? Is he so deluded that he don't realize that this type of football doesn't work often in EPL especially with players like Gerrard who are best utilized when played with freedom, through balls, and little bit of creativity/flair instead of disciplined tika tika. BR must resign and go manage Blackburn Rovers in Championship if he don't amend his ways soon. It doesn't even look attractive anymore so as to appease ourselves that result will come someday. We always use to have possessions and passing skills as evident under KD as well. How is LFC progressing under BR really???

    ReplyDelete
  78. I have a feeling if we lose to QPR, then he may be shown the door. I can`t imagine FSG are very happy with our league position, but more importantly how far off in points we are. I`m sure they would accept 6th or 7th this year, but only if it looked like we were improving. This year a lot of teams have messed up, and there has been a real chance for fourth!

    ReplyDelete
  79. He did nothing to merit the job, it was a massive leap of faith by the owners, but I do think it is too early to tell if that leap of faith is a stroke of genius or a massive fail yet.

    ReplyDelete
  81. what the fuck have has the congo done to deserve that !lol

    ReplyDelete
  82. Rodgers can only explain away Liverpool's loss to far inferior teams only so long. Don't know if it is that Liverpool just paid way too much for some of it's players or whether the players where actually worth their price. We were supposed to usher in a new culture of excellence under BR. We were supposed to do away with the broken Liverpool way and adopt more innovative style of play. So far tiki taka does not even look anything close to that of Barca. I find it hard to understand how we can dominate against a weak Norwich team, lose to an average Swansea team, dominate against a weak West Ham team, and then lose to an average Aston Villa team , only to dominate and against a weak Fulham team just to lose to an average Stoke City team. One could easily go bunkers just trying to understand how we can totally dominate one game against far inferior competition and then lose the next against even more inferior competition. It makes no kind of sense to the average Joe.

Under his management to date BR's biggest accomplishment has been to give youth players more chances. That ofcourse is highly commendable. We never stop building for the future. The biggest chink in his armor is that i don't believe BR has handled the PRESENT. He has prepared for the future because he has promoted the likes of Sterling , Suso, Wisdom, etc. These players are still developing and developing a lot of buzz but i think that they are still far from the finished article. They lack the cutting edge we need to lead us forward.

I strongly believe that with only two top class marquee big name players on the squad in Gerrard and Suarez (do not consider Reina effective so i don't count him) we will yet again fail to win any trophies or qualify for champions league competition this season. It is clear from our recent performance that we do not have a lot of quality on the squad regardless of what you think of Sterling, and Suso or Sahin. These youngsters are not enough to lead us forward. We need a few more seasoned vets who have played in big games and scored big goals against big teams. Until we bring in more experience we will continue to see this kind inconsitent performance in our team. Any game with out Gerrard and Suarez liverpool is simply turned into an amatuer squad. We have one of the weakest benches in the whole premiere league.

You get what you pay for. If you buy cheap you get poor performance. You pay a lot for someone like Drogba you get great performance from someone like Drogba. I would like anyone to name the Brendan Rodgers signing who has really dominated on the team this season. Anyone actually scoring goals for us on a regular basis? We don't have a lot of players who can dominate games and turn them on their heads outside of Luis Suarez or Steven Gerrard. Sturridge for me is a good player but he is a player for the future and not one for today.

Brendan sign more experienced players please.

  83. what the f"ck has the congo done to deserve that !!lol

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well, we are no longer the Liverpool we once were that is for sure and lets face it losing is an aspect of any sport in life, but it was the way of losing that was so pitiful. I remember Liverpool dominating teams and putting so much fear into them so they too performed as we did last night. I have to be grateful we are not facing relegation. Well it is all to easy to see how to beat us and if other clubs do the same then we surely will be at the end of the season. What concerns me more long term is, the better players will leave and where will we be then? I just hope we are not going the way Leeds went. Only time will tell and to be honest how we treated KD, we deserve no better.

    ReplyDelete
  85. i get a feeling the qpr game could define BR's season. a draw or defeat will have the claws out!

  86. The fact is Spurs , West Brom and Swansea all have new managers all are above us in the table , So the term Patience , work in progress it will take time from Brendon really does not have any basis. Sadly he is out of his depth , its not his fault FSG were the ones who appointed him we are LFC not some lab experiment to see if a young manager with his new style of football can make it work. A proven manager is needed if we are to attract top players and try to get back into the top 4 . Does anyone think Ince or Sturridge or this De santo will improve our squad ?

    ReplyDelete
  91. As a man, what does that mean? He wouldn't cheat on his girlfriend, would help an old lady across the street?

    ReplyDelete
  92. You have to get the basics right and Rogers didn't even have proven strikers. Happy to let Bellamy and Rodriguez leave without having anyone coming in to replace the goals. The Carroll situation is a joke and he's also lost all his transfer value. We would have been better off keeping him and selling him this transfer. TBH I'm still pissed off we got rif of Benitez. Regardless of what the media says, his net transfer budget was lower than ManU, Arse and Liverpool were always competitive. We were the best team in Europe for a while, happening Man U 4.1 at theirs and smashing Ream Madrid 4.0. For some reason, all our fans started slagging him off after a bad season, largely caused by the bickering owners we had at the time. Had we kept Benitez, does anyone seriously think we wouldn't be in the Champions league each year? I am a positive supporter but I'm not blindly optimistic. I would be surprised if we make the top 4 in the next 2 years, and more surprised if Suarez would hang around any longer if that is the case. Then we could be in danger of a decade of mediocrity. I'm sorry but Rogers has been absolutely awful, and we have nothing to be confident about. His passing game is a myth and we were much more attacking under Benitez. We keep losing soft goals as we try to pass out of defence... but the media love that we have a "barcelona" (joke) style. Such a shame...

    ReplyDelete
  95. Last season under Kenny we got to two cup finals and won one to get into the Europa League , This year if we do miss out on the Europa League (we can forget the champions League) as is looking likely, this will have an impact on next summers finances resulting in a number of worrying factors , A manager BR who cannot attract big names , Players not wanting to come due to no European action, Vultures hovering over the likes of Suarez , Sterling to name a few the result will be more players like Allen , Borini and the likes of De Santo and Sturridge thus the transition mid table mediocrity will be complete, Whilst I really do not want our manager sacked I really cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel in the current situation

  97. he is meant to manage the players and get the best out of them. you then replace players with better players and on you go.But i dont think BR has done that do you?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Oh great, Factual vs Feelings? We replaced just couple of scouts and do you think Liverpool only have two scouts? You talking about Leap of faith and accusing me for feelings based rant? I am giving facts about BR's transfer policy, his past record and that is not based on facts but feelings for you? Also, if LFC didn't have scouts (as per your inside knowledge) BR who is in a profession of Managing football club don't have much idea about players other than he coached before? Thank god we lost Sigurdsson to Spurs. And if you don't have any reasonable arguments to back it up for BR, don't blame me ranting about feelings. Whatever I say is my opinion based on underlying reasonable arguments, you can either chose to debate or pass it on. No need to necessarily pick on someone you can't argue with.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Completely agree with you there matey. Fans are fickle, after Fulhum it was all OMG BR is the best, after yests game, its sack him NOW.

I used to say all the time, that under Rafa we over achieved massively, and once he left we would then see that. All my mates laughed at me, saying nah, Rafa is rubbish.

The sad bit is, in me being right I still lose lol

    ReplyDelete
  100. "For some reason, all our fans started slagging him off after a bad season"

No some of our fans, the stupid ones who know nothing about football, started slagging him off. What you call a bad season will be looked back on in 2020 as our best season in a decade.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Why am I picking on someone I can argue with you? I havent picked on you at all, it would seem, you take offense to me saying something you didn`t like. That ain`t my fault lol.

Firstly, the funniest thing is, my original post was supporting you, but you went nuts lol. The leap of faith comment, was to say, he didnt deserve the job, so it must have been more a chance of they liked what said to them.

Secondly, The scouting issue, isn`t inside knowledge, it was in print, and it referred to the new set of main scouts, signed from Man City.

I`m sure you will still continue to read this wrong, as chips and shoulders springs to mind. I was backing up your point hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  102. About transfer activity, FSG knows BR can and will only attract players like Allen, Borini, Sturridge, Assaidi which fits in FSG money ball policy. A better manager would ask for world class quality which FSG simply can't afford and a reputed manager like for say Mancini or Rafa will always go public if transfer not done their way while BR won't coz this job is the best job he will ever achieve in his life and he won't risk it.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Do you not think that is down to BR paying to much for poor players than FSG? In two years FSG have spent over 130mil. That looks like they were happy to spend for the big players, or at least had the money too, but the Managers at each different time, couldnt or didnt buy the big players. Ignoring who might or might not have signed for us, we could by virtue of money spent only, have brought Mata, Hazzard, and Dzeko for the same price as Borini, Allen, Downing, Henderson and Carroll. Granted we got two more players for our buck, but the same money was spent.

FSG seem happy to spend massive cash for the best players in the world, just the problem is the managers in charge seem to buy average players for world class prices.

    ReplyDelete
  111. dont feel sorry for rogers the guy is being paid money you can only dream about for ruining the club with his dumb tika taka ego

    ReplyDelete
  112. I`m not sure we would ever go back in for him, as good as he was, he made the owners life hell. I just don`t know if any owner wants a manager in charge, that the fans will revolt for. He held to much power, and the old saying of, "one man isnt bigger than the club" springs to mind. I think Rafa is great, but I don`t think we should go back for him. It is in the past now, and we should move on, and look back fondly.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Agreed, also remember zonal marking??? and how the press hounded Rafa for it, yet since he left, even though a lot of the top clubs now do it, it never gets mentioned. The media wanted Rafa gone, cause he challenged there darling Fergie, thats my view anyway.

  114. If we can't get positive results against lesser teams in coming weeks, then BR will be fried, instantly. 116. Lets face it, since david moores sold the club to the first yankee conmen we have lurched from one disaster to the next, we had a world class manager in rafa who admittedly made mistakes but was able to have us as top ranked club in europe for a while, least said about Woy Hodgson the better, as for kenny iam pretty certain we,d have been in a better state than we are now, to sack kenny for this guy never made sense, i dont want us to end up swappin managers every season but lets see some cause for optimism, weve shipped 3 against w.b.a., villa, stoke & had other dire performances to suffer, what prestige we have left is being chipped away bit by bit with every dismal defeat we suffer, no team fears us at all now, harry redknapp probably thinks were a godsend for his next match, lets see what happens in the transfer window & how 2nd half of season pans out then we,ll have a better idea where BR is taking us.Personally i think he,s out of his depth & should never have been hired, what had he ever done to get such a high profile job?

    ReplyDelete
  126. Without making a yay or nay suggestions, Rodgers has to be aware of how pivotal his tenure is. Liverpool has no time for theory. No time for potential and unproven risk. I would rather we went out spending big on one Damaio for instance than spending big cumulatively on one Borini and one Sturridge. We need to think progressively and not buying on safe midfielders and forwards who don't get measured on output. If we need goals spend on goalscorers. I would respect a failed decision based on logic and balls. But to see goalscorers move elsewhere when we go against the market to spend on unproven rejects and ineffective midfield maestros annoys me. We need champions league football. Gerrard is on the wane, Reina has lost it, Suarez will go very soon, maybe this summer, we need smart, direct and uncomplicated action. Now. No more theory, no more reliance on perfect performances to beat average teams. We need players who can win matches even when we play badly. They tend to cost a lot but if we intend to remain a big club we need to spend that. And if that means sacrificing a £15M non-producing midfield potential then so be it. In all honesty has Joe Allen been that much better than Jay Spearing this year? Sahin that much better than Adam? Borini better than Bellamy? If we had saved that money and bought, say, Damaio, would we be in a better position now? Could we build on that and push for Champions League? Then could we attract big players in summer and start an assault on the Premiership? From acorns Brendan, from acorns.

Since we are half way, would be interesting to see some stats how many points do we need now(total and per game) to reach the level of the last year's fourth in the league. And comparison of top 4 clubs' form this time last year. Already done some checking, and I think it would be interesting discussion.

  130. What kind of long term regime would we be able to establish with Van Gaal or other such mercenary managers? None, thats what.

We're not Chelski, we dont have a bottomless well of unearned oil wealth to fall back on, so cant go down that road.

    ReplyDelete
  131. We've got to give Rodgers the season. At the very least, he is trying to be positive in the way we play, and if that is the case, a manager should always be given time (Hodgson the only real exception, though I'd have given him the season, as much as I hated most everything about his reign).

If you ask me, you look at the defensive stats for Rodgers' teams and it is clear that he doesn't set his defences up properly. We should get in a tactical specialist to sort this out (like Kenny did with Steve Clark). We don't have to throw the baby out with the bath water, but basic defensive principles aren't being enforced and as much as professionals of the calibre of Agger, Skrtel et al. should do this automatically, to expect that is complacent. That is why JK is right about needing the Benitez 'never settle' mentality. I feel like Rodgers is looking 5 years down the line but the here and now doesn't justify his being here over that timeline. He settles too easily. Although there was a duplicity to Kenny's press conferences (too much praise publicly), anyone who knew anything about him knew that behind the scenes was much different. I can't help but feel Rodgers lacks that bit of steel. Liverpool isn't a place for on the job learning, but he is young and this is something he could learn over this season and begin his reign in earnest next year.

I'm getting fed up of writing off seasons half way through.

  135. Sack rogers now, he is way out of his depth, naive, arrogant and hasn't got a clue.
Having a plan to copy Barcelona is easy, trying to convert Liverpool into that is impossible. Last night’s game totally supports my statement, the players where in disarray, passing, passing, passing the ball (sometimes) to each other and going nowhere, manager on touch line looking blank. Trying to keep the ball just outside your penalty area is simply suicide, (who taught this guy to play football like this?) it is stupidity!

He has a dream to play like Barcelona in the Premiership, Why?
Barcelona got lucky and evolved with a team of individuals who are all comfortable on the ball and can play.

60% possession doesn't win you games, passing the ball across your own 18 yard box doesn’t win you games, you win games by scoring more goals than the opposition and not trying to kep the ball in your own half when we are getting beat 3-, that clearly demonstrates his naivety & arrogance.

A totally disillusioned Red with no optimism for the future while that numpty is in charge

  136. Thats pretty easy to work out...69 for 4th last year, so we need 44 points to equal that, the equivalent of 88 for an entire season, ie title contending form.

We have in fact only gotten that many points in half a season, the 2nd half of 08/09.

So, the chances of us making Champions League next season are slim, to say the least...

and its clear for all to see more than anything we need a solid stable defence, starting with centre backs, one has to go and one is a sub at best simple as that

    ReplyDelete
  147. If I had to pin down the main issue that has been the cancer of this managerial time, is the overtly "political-diplomatic" approach Rodgers has had in regards to the supposedly "senior" pros at this club. Deep down every fan knows how costly Rodgers's inability to drop Gerrard (or stop playing him were he -Gerrard- wants) has been, not only in the player's declining influence and dreadful motivation to track back and/or give away the ball, but also how you could make a case of, by virtue of Gerrard being Gerrard and other players seeing him being so dreadful, their heads subsequently dropping (and, on a side note, detecting the strangeness in such a below-par perfomance meriting Gerrard absolutely no retribution or bench time must also have an effect in a chunk of them players).

True, you can count on Van Gaal being the best option now, in hindsight, with this situation I just described. But Rodgers can still be that man, grow some balls, and do what's needed to do. Long-term is the way to go, and as you say Jaimie, I too wish for Rodgers to be given more time -I buy his philosophy- but I too would understand if FSG sacked him if this horrible inconsistence in Liverpool's perfomances continued with no clear sign of progress.

  151. Don't get me wrong, with the exception of Borini I think all are better than what left, however my question is whether that difference and the cost of that difference has been anymore effective than a potential 20 goal a season striker would have been? 180 page dossiers are lovely but big managers always identify and pay the price for big scoring strikers. Always. If that wasn't in Rodgers dossier then he might as well have written it on toilet paper.

No way can it be fun to be anywhere near people like that , but here there's a chance for quite a few like minded guys like you to shout we're all doomed, before saying that their favourite mnager, KK, Rafa, whoever, would have us doing this and that.

Face it people, Kenny didn't d it for us, his 2nd half of last season was relegation form, despite the cup runs, Benitez nearly did but blew it by playing for draws when we should have been trying to win, and as for Hodgson, well, points aside, how unhappy a squad/ fanbase do you want?

I was as peed off as any of you watching Stoke play all around us but now is not the time. Assess things at the end of the season earliest, ideally a big name will be available and interested, but you can't just turn the clock back.

What a ridiculous basis for a story.

Author doesn't advocate sacking a manager mid season, yet would understand FSG mindset if they did..... Again, ridiculous..... Get off the fence.

BR is trying to revolutionise our style of play. It seems that some of our players are just not capable of doing what is wanted, or don't understand what is being requested of them. Downing needs to go ASAP, with his shushing gesture and comments about upping his game because he has to find a new club.....

We all know what happened at Reading, BR was relieved of his duties after an insignificant start.

Anyone who was being realistic at the start of the season had a good idea that it could take months to click, especially with a bare squad that depended on a 17 year old with 25 starts. Shocking lack of vision from the board.....

2 wins in next 2 games? QPR will be tough and Sunderland just beat City.

FSG cannot sack BR. They must give him the time and the backing to implement his plan or they have failed miserably and removed a legend for nothing.

As for new players, a strong centre half in place of Skrtel is essential, we are making players like Carlton Cole and Kenwyn Jones look like Drogba.

  165. Liverpool for Life9:41 pm, December 27, 2012

Rodgers can't adapt or change his gameplan . He is one eyed , even when his tactis are not working . You play to your teams strengths , he doesnt . Some say give him time but you have to look at what his done so far . Absolutely nothing ! Liverpool have gone backwards , not that we were that high before Brendan but we've sunk even lower . Do you think players with the skill of Suarez will continue to be patient while Brendan builds his pie in the sky.

Sometimes you take a flyer and hope you made a good decision. Liverpool took a flyer on Brendan . But he just aint the guy . His dealing in the transfer market have been ludicrous . Overpaying for very average players. His lack of foresight have left Liverpool with one quality striker . His style of play have left Liverpool looking totally ineffective. Its another thing if the team were playing great attacking football but just not scoring but we are not even playing great . Its just beacuse of Suarez's genius that we are not in the relegation zone.

The Yanks are business people who believe the players are assets. They will keep Rodgers until the end of the season, then i think they will look at their assets,in their money mind Carroll is £35m and its get rid of Carroll for a big fee at the end of the season or unless Rodgers performs a miracle get rid of Rodgers and bring someone in who convinces them they can make Carroll repay his fee by going from chicken tikka or whatever it is to pie and beer football and getting the best out of him.

  178. Sacking managers mid season is pointless, give him till the end of the season, if his signings bring no improvement in results or position in the league, then fsg have to act. Otherwise kennys sacking looks like it was done to show the fans whose boss.

  179. Di Matteo to take over as of today! sell Downing, Johnston, Reina, Allen, Lucas and Cole. Buy Hart, Subotic, Hummels, Pastore, Sneijder, Hamsik and also buy Walcott and put him up front with Suarez -4-3-3 Team as follows - 1. Joe Hart 2. Hummels 3. Agger 4. Subotic 5. Enrique 6. Sahin 7. Pastore 8. Hamsik 9. Sneijder 10. Suarez 11. Walcott
Bench - Skirtel, Sterling, Gerrard, Carroll (yes back from loan!) I would probably sell Gerrard at the end of the season for someone like Ghourcuff or even Kaka!

  181. At least Spearing shows hunger and fight, he wants to play for LFC. Adam got the most assists last season even though he was injured for a few months. Sahin is a prima donna and can go back to where he came from because he has done F all.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Im talking about match distractions-11 in the 2nd half of last season vs 12 in this.

That plus player losses-Lucas being the obvious common one-make 2nd half of last season more comparable to this of the 2.

We got 18 points in that half vs 25 in this.

Also Dalglish got 18 months and had considerably bigger budget. I do wonder if he could have turned it around, but it would be madness to cut Rodgers off so soon.

The 1st window was sloppy, with unwanted players like Cole coming back, the deadline day messup, and experienced players leaving. Lets see what he does to correct it in the January window, and ultimately how the entire season goes before we hang him out to dry.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Spearing is a Championship level player though. Look at the performance dropped when Lucas was replaced with him.

Sahins barely gotten a game in the 1st place.

Adam was the Scottish Alonso and the best player we've had in years. Tragic that we lost him.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Very worrying times there is a huge lack of experience... I can see where FSG are coming from getting promising young players in but it is nothing more than an idealistic massive gamble over here one that so far isn't working and to make it work you would need a very experienced manager which at the top level BR is not it all seems to be based on potential and the prem will find you out very quickly as so far it's proving in our case.

For me we are way too lightweight.... To get a result against us all you seem to have to do is get in our faces and at the moment we just don't seem to be able to take a game by the scruff of it's neck anymore stevie G did it for years suarez can do it too but they cant do it on their own you have to have back up and we simply have not got that wether it be lack of experience in some or desire in others one things for sure it's broke and it needs fixing FSG are finding out now this is no stroll in the park and if they genuinely want to go places it's time to pull their fingers out you can't achieve much without experience and in the case of the stoke debacle and other games too backbone they need to take a long hard look in the mirror after all they got the man they wanted then didn't back him up in the summer window you wont win much if anything on a shoestring and if they cant or wont do that then please sell up we need proper football people here from the board to the backroom staff to a manager who is not out of his depth as rodgers is looking more and more each day... After all bringing swansea up and keeping them there is one thing but at the very top level is that enough? it's sure not looking that way at the minute maybe it is just too soon for him to make that step up we wont do much with rookie's however promising or midgets who are easily brushed aside.

FSG need to stop being so naive with this moneyball it does not work over here would have been great if it did but the EPL is too cut throat and ruthless for that the only chance that would ever have of working would have been to take over a team in the lower leagues and build it up over a number of years but then again i don't think that would hold much appeal as that in itself would take dedication which does not look that they have enough of so they need to wise up or go end of

    ReplyDelete
  185. BR has to have changed his plan. His plan was the quick passing game. The Stoke game was more of the lame prior to BR game. It's time to face the truth people. Our defense is swiss cheese. Suarez runs around all velocity and no vector so nobody knows what he's doing...even Suarez. The passing is SOOOOOOO anemic, it would be laughable if it weren't our guys...but it is...and it's not funny. In short, we suck in every phase of the game. It would be BRs fault if he didn't put the best he's got out there...but he's putting the best out there and we're getting creamed by teams we should beat.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Gerrard may not be the player he was, but nobody on L'pool can make the passes he makes...because nobody else tries. Gerrard is still the best passer in the EPL. It just might not be important because he isn't getting to the balls he should get to. Liverpool NEVER wins a 50-50 ball...EVER. That's just lack of desire pure and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  187. It will take time I agree, but in my opinion it should be a manager who knows what he is doing that gets the time, it looks like a few big names may become available possibly at the end of the season if not before, so hopefully Rodgers will be shown the door and a manager with real know how will be installed

    ReplyDelete
  188. Sahin who has asked to be played in his actual position a plea that seems to have been ignored by Rodgers and Assaidi (what ever happened to him?) yet Allen can be awful week in week out and he is constantly praised.. Rodgers should have stayed at Swansea they made him look good

    ReplyDelete
  189. Me thinks most managers wouldn't have the cojones to drop Gerrard. Too big a footprint he has established over the years at the club. So me thinks we won't see Rodgers dropping Gerrard much this season. Don't get me wrong, Stevie needs to be treated starting less.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Apart from Enrique and Suarez, the lack of fight from us against Stoke was sad to see.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Pastore me thinks will be off to Milan but apart from him, the rest are realistic(!) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  192. Ally McCoist 10/1 you say? I'm having some of that!!!

    ReplyDelete
  193. Sack Rodgers now and then what next? Bring in Van Gaal and he will build his own squad and that will take time which could mean more mediocre and inconsistent results and then we will start comparing his stats to that of Hodgson's and then the verdict, he is clueless and lets change the manager again!

Come on people, give Brendan at least 1 and a half season. He is working with a thin squad and you don't build a good squad for the future in less than 1 season. What more, Brendan is working with a constraint budget and the squad is still not fully his. Yes, the results are inconsistent but at least they are not inconsistently bad. There were glimpses of good build-up and movement in the team and of course some horrendous defending costs games.

But, as long as the direction of the team is moving forward albeit slowly, we should give Brendan a chance. Earlier in the season, we heard so-called fans saying that it will take time for Brendan to -build Liverpool and now half way through the season, so called fans are suggesting he be axed.

You simply cannot compare ROy to Kenny to Brendan because they were all working under different circumstances and I believe the owners are looking for the direction the team is heading to.

Had Sir Alex not been given time at MU, do you think MU would be where they are today? I am for giving Brendan more time and I think he will deliver but the owners must support him in the transfer market.

    ReplyDelete
  194. I meant, the results are inconsistent but at least they are not consistently bad.

    ReplyDelete
  195. The real shocker for me is Stoke, West Brom and Aston Villa have piled 3 goals past us in their winning efforts.
I believe we have the worst combination possible in having inexperienced FSG appointing a manager I would also call inexperienced.
FSG have signed over £22million to Swansea for Joe Allen, Brendan Rodgers and his backroom staff somnething that smacks of Paying Fulham for Hodgson and his backroom staff which effectively brought small club mentality to the club.
Rodgers has also replaced the inept scouts that were there before but you then have to question if that was an improvement if the new scouting team then deems Sturridge is a star buy at £12million while also scouting another Chelsea old boy, Di Santo.
Liverpool is becoming Chelsea dumping ground akin to the Sunderland - Manchester United relationship.
I keep hearing many state Rodgers has a vision which is taking shape but I believe every manager has a vision and it is just a question of how receptive the players are.
For example, we had a good defensive record for strecthes of last season but the very same defenders under Rodgers are now terrible.
Noone can argue Hodgson did not have a vision when he sort to tell fans mid table is were Liverpool was aiming for under him something the so called visionary Rodgers is doing when praising players that are clearly letting the club down and he is exactly where Hodgson was after this number of games.
It seems many fans try to attribute positives to Rodgers but any negatives are said to be owners fault.
Was it not Rodgers who went all out by spending half his transfer budget on a non-scoring midfielder who he then proclaims tired after half a season when he knew before he came in that Liverpool needed goals more than pretty passing stats that lead nowhere.
The slide after finishing second is becoming alarming since we are now an entrenched mid-table club, I hope that the next trend is not fighting relegation but I feel we certainly have a manager who could have been fighting relegation had he remained with Swansea given.
Rodgers has only marginally improved his Swansea record after 19 games where he had 20 points after 19 games consisting of 4 wins, 8 draws and 7 losses.
I guess this shows how much FSG know about football considering he gained 27 points in the next 19 games but FSG in their wisdom saw this as a clear sign he along with Martinez were the main candidates for the job.
Rodgers like Hodgson seems not to grasp the magnitude of what they signed up for.
I can understand the club not challenging for the title after spending £30million but what justification is there for the club being behind Stoke and West Brom who can only dream of spending £30million.
Swamsea lost Sigurdson who scored a lot for them but then replaced him with the current premiership top goal scorer for £2million while Rodgers replaced Kuyt and Maxi goals with the non scoring duo of Allen and Borini for a combined £27million.
