'It's my dream!' - Luis Suarez reveals 'complicated' personal 'mission' for LFC...

Luis Suarez grabbed his 8th league goal of the season in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea, and although Liverpool are currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table, the Uruguayan is still totally focused on achieving his personal goal for the season.

In an interview over the weekend, Suarez insisted that Liverpool 'are one of the top clubs in England', arguing that the club is 'obliged to fight for all the titles, including the Premier League'.

He also reiterated that he is 'confident' that Brendan Rodgers is the right man for the Liverpool job, and he outlined his 'mission' for this season. He said:

"My dream for this season is to make the top four, and my mission is to play and to score goals for Liverpool.

"Our squad should be fighting against the biggest rivals in this division. This has become complicated because of results so far, so we need to give our maximum in every match"

Despite the doom and gloom over Liverpool's form, I still believe the club can make the top four this season. Arsenal and Spurs are not running away with it at the moment, and their inconsistency will let other teams into the race at some stage.

All Liverpool need to do is win a few league games on the trot and the club will be right up there. Add in a new goalscorer or two in January, and things could look a lot different around March/April 2013.

Suarez also insisted that he is not a diver, but with the greatest respect, that is nonsense. He is a diver - there is plenty of evidence to prove it, and if he wants to people to actually believe that he doesn't go down too easily then he should start proving it by staying on his feet from this point onwards.

It was strange to see no one celebrating with Suarez after he scored the equalising goal yesterday. I wonder why that was? The Uruguayan certainly looked surprised when he turned round to find himself all alone...

  1. jaimie love him or hate him you cannot argue that without him we would be in dire straights the man has carried us this season and imo champions league has gone for this season just hope the club invest in the coming transfer windows cause if not he will surely go also thought suarez showed great concern for terry yesterday and finally sky sports should have a word with the commentator yesterday his comments about it being ironic that it was suarez and terry after there recent racise comments was in bad taste

  2. This guy is Liverpool icon already. I don't know why no one celebrated with him when he scored goal yesterday. He is the only one who has the winning mentality in our team, others are just satisfied to win, lose or draw. God, even if we had 2 or 3 Suarez-esque players in the team, we would be at the top of the table. Absolute world class and till this guy is playing for Liverpool, anything is possible really.

  3. Gerrard's our next highest scorer, with only two goals! He's also been known to take a dive or two. Where would we be without the 10 league goals supplied by our two divers?

You can't help having a go at Suarez, but without him, we'd now be relegation fodder, so give him a break.

  4. The Doom and Gloom...

After 11 games we are 13th with a negative goal difference. The fact is we are worse than last season.

Now BR is telling us that finishing 7th would be "fantastic".

But is anybody really that surprised? I mean BR's coaching record doesn't really stand up to manage Liverpool, not if we have any sort of aspirations to be winning anything for the the next 5 years.

The situation is a bloody nightmare. And thank the lord for Suarez, because without him we would be staring relegation in the face right now.

  5. You made a valid point there...why werent others celebrating with him..?Find it strange..

    ReplyDelete
  6. agree his work rate is fantastic as well but we do need 2or3 more players like him worldclass and plays with his heart on his sleeve

    ReplyDelete
  7. What is your point? That we should forgive diving because the divers have a positive impact on the team? No. That kind of attitude is exactly why diving is such a problem in the first place. I don't care how many goals Suarez scores; if he continues to dive, I will continue to highlight it.

And I wasn't having a go at Suarez; HE said publicly that he doesn't dive, so he has to expect people to respond to that.

Do you ever step away from your Suarez shrine?

    ReplyDelete
  8. maybe some of them were embarresed by there performances lol

    ReplyDelete
  9. Lets clarify this, why no one celebrated suarez goal? Because time was running out and obviously lfc going in every game to win it so the rest of the players didnt want to waste time and celebrate rather than starting over again and try to win the game as soon as possible this is as simple as that, there was no controversy at all, no need to make up stories and molest the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  10. That is pretty weird that no one else celebrated it... Suarez looks like he thinks its been disallowed at first. I saw a table that showed where we would be without his goals and we were last.... Not good. I really hope FSG do something about it.

  11. My manc mate says it's their big fortune we don't have a class forward next to Suarez or we'd be top of the table. Says it all really when rival fans can see what a fantastic player he is. It also goes some way to show we're not that far off 4th. It may be too much to ask this season but next season we'll deffo take the step back into the higher echelons of English footy. Great result and it was nice to see a change in that we got a result although the performance wasn't the best. It's usually the other way round. Wigan, So'ton, Villa and Fulham next 4 homegames.

  16. Gerrard possibly out two weeks with some medial ligament strain latest word from Melwood. They are assessing today, surely they will not send him off to play for England without being 100% fit.
I dont know why the others did not celebrate the goal, no explanation has been forthcoming. I dont think the fans care if he is a Billy No Mates or not as long as he plays well and scores.
You say Arsenal and Tottenham are not running away with fourth place, but in the table I am looking at neither are fourth. Whether Everton can stay in such a position depends on keeping Fellaini and whether they add depth to their squad. Liverpool have a relatively easy run at home coming up in the next four matches and 10 points miniumum must be obtained to have any chance of a fourth place

    ReplyDelete
  17. It is a valid point you are making, but looking back at the game IMO Liverpool at that point never looked like they will score and that goal was a changing point to the game, then to score it should have been a burst of joy for all the players! Not forgetting it was at Stamford against Chelsea!

I am so surprised! There must be something fishy about it!

The only reason could be that they had direct orders from the bench to not waste time? maybe BR saw that it was a possibility to win after scoring? Not sure though. Still I am disappointed by the reaction.

  18. do you ever step away from vilifying him?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sorry mate your wrong.... All the players were mobbing Jamie C for his assist !
No problem with team spirit as you say, but the reason is cause Jamie caused a riot with his header !! :-)

  20. do you ever step away from vilifying him?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I never noticed that! But still Suarez scored it at the end. I am still surprised though!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Does anyone care why you think Jamie k? Your always putting lfc down... Are you sure your a lfc fan mate ?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I haven't vilified him; you're just so wrapped in your hero worship that you can't see that. Suarez made a public comment about his diving; obviously, he must expect people to respond to that. If you can't hack it, then that's your problem.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jaime, What are your views on Everton. I noticed you left them out of your competitors for top four?

    ReplyDelete
  25. are you an Evertonian

    ReplyDelete
  26. All the players are good now although young players need a time to get used. Suarez is the best player in Liverpool at the moment just he needs one more striker who completes the ball, the mistake happened after the last transfer window where we sold or send on loan all our strikers such Carroll. let gone be by gone and take advantage the opening of the transfer window in January and get high quality strikers so we can at least be the 4th Palace in the Tabel

    ReplyDelete
  27. Everton are doing well but I just don't think they will be able to maintain their form for an entire season. History seems to back that up, and I expect them to fall away to 5th-6th by the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Why does it matter? Fans from any team are welcome here.

    ReplyDelete
  29. By valid observations do you mean its ok to say he looks slightly like Freddy Mercury?

Just a bit of light humour!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. It doesnt matter was wondering from what point of view was he asking. Everton's season depends on 4 things.
    1) Fellaini not being sold
    2) Jelavic scoring goals regularly
    3) Not getting too many injuries as a small squad
    4) Adding depth in January.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i dont think you and I are on Anteaters Christmas card list

    ReplyDelete
  32. Next season we will be at the top?? Isn't it the same thing we expected last year, last to last year? Ever since rafa left we are in transitional period...first under Hodgson, he screwed it ....then Kenny....don't get me started and now BR. Even under kenny after finishing 6th we expected to go for title let alone CL. So if you really think we will challenge again for CL as soon as next season...then I must say we fans are deluded.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I can 100% confirm I am not an Evertonian. I just feel there might be something in them this season as they're consistently getting results against the smaller teams (as we should be doing), particularly at home.

It all depends on Fellaini though IMO

    ReplyDelete
  34. carragher had been instructed to stay back but ignored this and ended up assisting the goal hence the focus of the celebration being on him. In addition suarez had ran off into the corner so was a distance from his teammates who seemed keen to restart the game and strive for a winner.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nah, they just don't like him. ;-)

  49. come on billy lets not feel sorry for ourselves were bigger than that different people different opinions if we all agreed the posts would be boring lol

    ReplyDelete
  50. What is tbh? Problem with resting him is that Rodgers sees him as Messiah, he wont drop him till he drops dead... I love a menager who is consistent, but this is plane stubborn- after 70 minutes he should have brought bloody Coates instead, playing him just didn't work... he is a terrific player, but nobody is that good ...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Allen to me is just another in the long line of bad buys in recent times, Henderson, Downing, Adam, and Borini ( I left Carroll out of that as still think he has something to offer)

    ReplyDelete
  52. think rodgers ego will contribute to his downfall he his determind to try and make allen indincepesable and prove he made a great buy well hes decent but not 15 millions worth

    ReplyDelete
  53. and he stinks apparently! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Omre, were you also part of the mob who were b!tching and moaning about Lucas being a flop early in his LFC career?

What about *Allen is not a defensive midfielder* does everybody not understand?

If anyone actually watched Swansea matches last season they would actually know what Allen is capable of so until Lucas comes back then Allen will unfortunately still be our defensive midfielder.

    Question time...

Would Lucas set the world on fire if he was asked to play in an advanced midfield role?

    Is Allen a defensive midfielder???

What do people not understand about that? Allen was not bought to play as a defensive midfielder but that is the role Allen has been given till Lucas returns. So until we see what the plan is for Allen as soon as Lucas comes back, then I feel it is better that some zip their traps.

How would you like Allen to improve as a defensive midfielder when that is not his forte?

Wouldn't it be a better idea to judge Allen when Lucas is back playing as our defensive midfielder which will allow Rodgers to show us why he actually signed Allen?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Great points, Max. I've been trying to get this across too.

    ReplyDelete
  56. His defensive work was bad yesterday. his. defense. bad. and when we were attacking he had BAD passes SIDEWAYS, and BACKWARDS. And a defensive midfielder NEVER passes forward?!? Our philosophy is in passing, defenders must know how to pass forward, bloody Reina and Jones MUST pass forward, and he can't? check our rolemodels, barca and spain again...

  57. In all fairness, you never miss a chance to stick the boot in to Suarez. There are plenty of valid criticisms of this lad, and God knows you point them out, plus plenty extra.

Any praise you offer of him is qualified and comparitively light.

This little bit at the end of the article about people not being there when he celebrated is transparent. You can't argue why that is a valid criticism. That is viewing things through the prism of your own negative views of the man. The 'I wonder why that was?' with its mock conspiratorial tone and the ellipsis to make us think that this is some sort of mystery, as if there is some sort of reason why they wouldn't all celebrate with the bad man Suarez, is artless and disingenuous.

Your views on his diving are your own opinion and fair, since you can find evidence that this is true but the little tag at the end of that article is, and I take no pleasure in saying this, pathetic. It is well known that he is popular inside the club and this leading questioning at the end of the article is insulting to the readers here.

I'd only comment on this if I thought this blog (I'm not actually sure this qualifies as a blog does it? I don't really know. It seems the most appropriate term.) was good, and I really do, but this article is poor and so is your responses to commenters here.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sorry Jaimie but I think you are wrong about villying Suarez and here's why:

Yes he made a public statement about diving and you picked up on that - this is the only part of his statement you offer any real critique or opinion on. BTW, I could almost see you sneering in your last paragraph, it reads with quite a tone of satisfaction.

Fair enough you have included Suarez's quotes and it's great that we can come to your site to see the passion and loyalty publicly displayed by (like it or not) our new talisman. After reading his quotes though it made me have to re-read your headline - "complicated" personal mission - This suggests his personal mission is complicated!?! His quotes say the situation is complicated, why then does the headline seem to me (maybe only me) to have an instant negative tone? Maybe it is just me, I don't know.

So Suarez makes this positive statement about his personal mission at LFC - is the real story not in the fact that our most important player for our present and short-term future is seemingly showing belief in the club, manager and system and his passion to do well for our club - especially as a few days ago you wrote an article quoting BR saying Suarez could have gone last summer.

It seems to me that you have only expressed a flimsy opinion on the quotes you printed - ask any LFC fan in any pub and they'll all agree we're not that far off 4th spot at the moment points-wise. In the tradition of your site (which I do enjoy coming to and reading) why have you not offered up any point for discussion on the quotes you actually printed?

Add all this up and it appears to me that this is really a nothing article, or at best a platform to highlight, and add speculation to, a negative aspect of a player. And if we're looking at it from the perspective of the Chelsea game, I don't remember diving being a problem point from that game.

You've said in past replies to commentators that you don't only castigate Suarez and that you do write positively about him when he has deserved or merited it, I'd say you missed the boat on this article.

All of this is, of course, just my opinion, just like this article is just your opinion. And that is my point with this, you appear to be straying away from constructive critique of our club and into pure opinion. I might be the only person who thinks it, but I think the whole Suarez bashing vs deifying theme that has been running on here for some time now is taking people, and maybe yourself included (I'd love to be corrected on this point please), away from the excellent roots of your site.

One last thing, please don't respond with "I'm just part of the problem with LFC fans hero worshipping Suarez". No one player is more important than our club, but you have to, have to, recognise that players are important to the club.

You ask people to structure their arguments and not snipe, I think I've done that, and this is why I think you can't simply say "I'm not vilifying Suarez.... If you can't hack it that's your problem."

    ReplyDelete
  59. not saying he is to blame for our bad performance, just that alongside Gerrard and Sahin he played bad. all midfielders must participate in creating chances, especially in our system.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thanks for your comments. You are massively over-analysing the final paragraph of my article. You have projected negativity onto it that just isn't there.

If I wanted to make a negative comment about it, I would've. When have I been shy about doing that in the past?!

I highlighted the 'celebrating alone' incident because it is an interesting incident, it's as simple as that. Check Twitter and other LFC sites; practically every LFC site has highlighted this incident, but the difference with me is I have no dedicated an entire article to it like everyone else.

I could've, but I didn't. Why? Instead, I focused on Suarez's positive comments. If I was so desperate to 'vilify' him, I could've seized on the this opportunity to slate him further.

Additionally, I could've dedicated an entire article to his 'I don't dive' comments, and I could've offered ample evidence to disprove that contention. You and I both know I could've really gone to town proving Suarez is a diver, but I didn't go down that route.

Why would I miss out on these golden opportunities to slate Suarez if I am, as you suggest, constantly trying to denigrate him?

As such, your criticism doesn't make much sense.

I criticise Suarez, and I praise him. Yes, I'm harsh when it comes to cheating, but he - and anyone else who cheats - deserves it.

My one paragraph about Suarez being a diver in this article is perfectly fair, and forms the smallest part of the article.

You just can't win with some people. Nothing I've said in this article is out of order, but people are so hyper-sensitive over Suarez that they pounce at the slightest criticism.

It's all hypocrisy at the end of the day anyway. If a player who is not a fan favourite acted like Suarez, he'd be hounded out of Anfield. Fans have their favorites, and when they do, they become untouchable.

    ReplyDelete
  61. When you go against Suarez it is your opinion, when i say something against Allen, i am an ignorant fool. nice... and yes i would love to see him play his best, and yes i always liked Lukas...

    ReplyDelete
  62. waiting for approval...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Omre, you just do not get it do you?

    Step number one...
Go find a explanation of a defensive midfielder and his role in the team on the net and then maybe you can educate yourself on the defensive midfielder role taking into consideration that Allen is FILLING IN FOR LUCAS.

    Step number two...
Find some footage of Allen on the net playing for Swansea and then maybe you will finally wake up and see that Allen is not a defensive midfielder and has been selected by Rodgers to fill in for Lucas as quite honestly there are no other midfielders in our squad that will be able to do job that Allen has while Lucas has been injured.

If you still do not understand after that then clearly there is no help for you after that.

    ReplyDelete
  64. When you go against Suarez- it is your opinion, when I have mine on Allen, I am ignorant fool, nice... and yes I would love yo see him play his best, and he is a good player, and yes i always liked lukas...

  65. Thanks for your points, NonEventHorizon.

Re the headline: Suarez's personal mission IS complicated, which is why the headline states that. Read his quotes again: His dream/mission is to get Liverpool into the top 4 and score goals. That mission is 'complicated' by the fact LFC are not getting the results they should be, thus, it is 'complicated' for him to achieve his goal of getting LFC into the top 4. You're reading too much into it.

Why have you not offered up any point of discussion for the quotes you've actually printed

What are you talking about? I gave my view: that I believe LFC can make it into the top four. What else am I supposed to say? If I disagreed with Suarez's view, I would've said so. I don't disagree though! What other points should I have raised?

With this article, I have highlighted something positive about Suarez. I could've taken the opposite route and dedicated an entire article to either of the following:

    * Rejecting Suarez's comments about not being a diver.

    * Suarez celebrating alone.

Those two topics are perfect opportunities to stick the knife into Suarez, but I took a different route. Why would I do that if I'm sop desperate to criticise him all the time?

I merely made a one paragraph comment about his diving comments, I feel this is a fair riposte. It doesn't warrant a full article, but I have to at least acknowledge his comments on diving.

Re Suarez bashing vs. deifying - you may not think so, but to me it is a massively important issue. It's not just about Suarez, it's about hero worship in general. For me, it's a cancer of modern football, which is why I constantly highlight it.

I do recognise that Suarez is important to the club, but he is not the only one; everyone in the first team is important in their own way, as are the squad players, and those that are perceived to be more important by the fans do not suddenly become exempt from criticism.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The fact that he is the only one with a winning mentality in our team is probably why nobody celebrated with him; nobody else cares that they scored a goal and tied it all up. BR needs to address the lack of passion in the current squad NOW even moreso than he needs to recruit in January (don't get me wrong, he still needs to recruit in January, but no matter how good the transfers are - if there is no passion in the dressing room, they won't be successful). Disgraceful and embarrassing that nobody else celebrated that goal!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Carra's flick was a desparate one to get a head on the ball - it wasn't a directed pass to Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  68. than you go and watch yesterday's 90 minutes and you'll see him playing NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Not good at all, actually. if you are in the midfield of a serious team you have to be good both ways. and in Swansea he was. Both ways.
    playing very bad actually...

    ReplyDelete
  69. sorry jaimie but been dying to say this all day{if it means a ban then fair enought i except it but think it will be very harsh just trying to point out a few facts}but there is a huge difference between were barred and am barred meaning you its not going to happen rest assured your safe lol ;-)

  70. Cruel but funny seeing Suarez's face when he realises that he is celebrating the goal by himself yesterday. A gif image of that is doing the rounds today.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Have to be good both ways?

What the hell are you on about now?

So are you saying that Suarez should be played as a defender when he is a striker?

I tell you what, let's play Shelvey or Henderson in the defensive midfield role. Let Allen sit on the bench and then see what happens. Ha Ha...

Orme, who would you rather see playing as our DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER until Lucas returns?

    ReplyDelete
  72. 'top of the table'....yoikes, think your mate was pulling your leg.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Maybe they did not celebrate with Suarez because they realised that they are all inferior compared to him :-p
Anyway our midfield was really piss poor yesterday. Sahin was the worse, he was completely out of his depth. Maybe he is not suited for the PL. Allen is getting worse every match and its about time for Gerrard to retire now. Wisdom was also bad. He is kinda error prone. I think he should be sent back to play with the reserve.
Enrique, jones, sterling and suarez were the only ones who played well...

    ReplyDelete
  74. Diving is penalized in football rules . that´s it.
Only in England diving is socially penalized. Sugest FIFA to penalized diving with a red card and diving will end. In South America is considered another skill of the player. The problem at liverpool is the lack of quality on the craetive side of the team. And a lack of winning mentality on many players. An american owner is not the best. They like more a businnes show than a winning team.
Luis is a National hero in our country. Greatings from Uruguay.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think the main reason nobody celebrated with Suarez was that he headed the ball in from about 2 yards out and then celebrated by running along the goal line.
Unfortunately, no other fncker has got that far forward this season, so reverted to type and all trotted back to regroup behind the ball.

Good job there was a pocket of Liverpool fans by the corner flag to celebrate with him, eh? :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think the player's collectively thought that it's only 1-1, we're blessed to be level, now let's get the head back in the game and we might nick a winner.

That's what I was thinking too.

Suarez does look surprised, expecting a red wave of players to engulf him.

    ReplyDelete
  77. First off, my user name did used to be VormHat but I changed it because I am a wild and crazy guy.

Now, either you haven't read my comment carefully, or you have got my argument and mixed it with everyone elses. If you read my comment, I take no issue with your comment about his diving. To quote me (the most reliable of sources!):

'Your views on his diving are your own opinion, and fair since you can find evidence this is true'.

I also acknowledge that criticism of him is valid:
'There are plenty of valid criticisms of this lad'.

You then ask: 'if I was so desperate to 'vilify' him, I could've seized on the opportunity to slate him further'.

At no point in my comment did I suggest you were trying to 'vilify' Suarez. This means that your choice to include this in quotation marks is either sloppy or an intentional attempt to mischaracterise my comment. I say that you are too harsh. That is different from vilification. I said that you don't dole out praise and criticism evenly. For example, in an article about Suarez's personal mission to get the club into the top four you do note that Suarez is a cheat (fair game he has commented on it and he is no angel) but you say nothing of his contribution to this 'mission'. It would seem only natural that rather than just saying he 'grabbed his 8th league goal of the season', you would at least make passing reference to the fact that he is the joint top scorer in the league or that, statistically speaking, without his goals and assists, we'd be bottom of the league. That isn't over praise or favouring Suarez, that is a statistic, that happens to portray him in a favourable light, that relates to the core matter of the article.

To quote you 'as such your argument makes no sense'! BOOM!

Similarly, you note that I am referring to the 'final paragraph' of your article, and then respond as if I had wrote about the second to last paragraph in your article. It is also clear that while some points are being made to your detractors in general, you are also referring directly to me as A) You replied to my post and B) You use inclusive language like 'you and I both know'. Again, I don't whether this is just a mistake or an attempt to unfairly undermine my argument.

What my comment posits, is that you have looked at the celebration to the Suarez goal (which is curious, and the source of rumours) and tried and use it as an indirect way to criticise Suarez. This is evident in the fact that you write the critical part of the article, in which you accuse him (not unfairly) of being a diver (and therefore in your view propagating what you have called a 'cancer' in the game) and then follow it up with the inconclusive questioning of the final paragraph. Structurally speaking, it reads as though this was intentionally leading. Whether you meant to write it like that is another matter. I find it unlikely that this is an accident since you've been writing this blog for years and I should think (and I have seen much evidence of this on this excellent blog) you'd have a good grasp of structure. It is the same as me saying:

'Dave next door is a convicted murderer.

I haven't seen his wife for a while. Have you? Weird...'

The second part of that is innocuous by itself but with the negative information as a qualifier, its meaning is modified.

You can say I have read too much into this but if that is the case, it is only as a result of the way it has been written in which case you should be more careful if you want to make sure people don't misconstrue your words.

As it happens, I agree with you that people are hypocrites with Suarez. If he was a lesser player people would probably (at least) dislike him. That is frustrating and symbolic of a certain moral bankrupcy in football (and in society!?) That doesn't change the fact that I think you are over-compensating.

  78. I think in the last few games Suarez has stayed on his feet a lot more and seems to be learning from his mistakes, credit where it is due.
As to why no player ran with him to celebrate is probably because he seems to be the only player in the team with bags of energy even in the 70th minute. All this passing the ball around in our own half just for the sake of it must be wearing all the other players out.

  79. What's worse diving or bad 'cynical' tackles which go on week in week out, Suarez has been on the end of those and given some out. Point is to much is made of diving which cannot end someone's career, but bad tackles are not seen in the same vain or given the exposure of diving. We hear its the foreigners that bring it in [diving]. How many times have english teams gone out to simply hack a skill full player down. Plenty of examples come to mind. Finally this utopia we seek of a pure game without cheating will not happen it not human nature. We should look at our personnel lives and ask....have we lied, pulled a sickie cheated on our partners? If so we should not complain about someone who cheats by diving.....people with glasshouses springs to mind!

  81. Slow motion- one minute after the dive ref gets contacted by another ref watching slow motion and gives a red. End of story...

  82. the main reason to celebrate with team mates after scoring is that it helps to lift you team and also helps to demoralise the opposition. Its not as if there was only a couple of minutes to go, there was plenty of time for a comeback. Rushing back only stunk of desperation.

  83. I am from Sweden and have been a pool fan as long (46 year old) as i can remember. I remember the days when Ian Rush and Peter Beardsley where in the club. That mentality is what they need to find, the spirit that ones where, must be found to make this Liverpool again. I can`t close my eyes for the fact that Suarez have done all the goals (Almost) but to me he is not the typical Pool player. A diver can never be a true Pool player. I hate divers and i (Hate is a strong word so i use "Dont Like" instead) dont like Suarez. Never had and never will. I whant the old Pool player style and you guys know what i mean. Liverpool should be all about England and they need to build the team on a majority of English players. That`s just my opinion, and i am from Sweden :) To me Liverpool is the ambasador club for English football. Everyone can have there own opinion on all the rich shejks that buy clubs and try to make them the best club in the world, but maybe that is what has to happen for pool to be the big club they deserve to be, again. I really dont whant that to happen though becasue that would mean that the Pool squad in a few years will have maximum 1 or 2 UK born players and loose it`s identity. So let`s pray that Brendan Rogers can get the club on it`s feets again and with the help from English players.

    /Swedens biggest Pool fan!

  86. Suarez still does dive, but in my opinion he has vastly cut down this season on diving thankfully. Sure he still dives a bit, but realistically this problem does not just rest with Suarez. Gerrard also sometimes goes down easily, as do so many of the EPL top players. Just look at Gareth Bale, Hazard, and even Phil Neville in the Merseyside derby. Suarez does need to eradicate it from his game, but he has been made a scapegoat for a much larger problem that involves a lot more clubs than just Liverpool.

However Jamie I would hope you still do not wish for Suarez to be sold, with one of your previous main arguments being that he was not clinical enough. Suarez now is the joint-top scorer in the league along with RVP, and in a team that sits in the bottom half of the table. His ability, close control, and work-rate are truly world class. If Liverpool actually hope to return the glory days, we need to keep the likes of Suarez, Gerrard, Lucas, Skrtel and Agger as a very strong spine to our team. What Liverpool do need now is to add some clinical finishing in the shape of someone like Huntelaar, and add a couple more quality attacking players to the ranks.

Imagine Huntelaar and Suarez attacking in tandem along with the youthful and hungry Sterling, thriving from the pinpoint passes of stevie G. Liverpool need to add more depth in the final third, and any players that do not have enough mental strength and resilience or indeed quality must be sold; aka Downing, possibly Henderson, Carroll, and possibly Enrique.

  87. Despite the striker being criticised for going to ground too easily this season, Cech admits he was pleasantly surprised that he didn't attempt to dive during their confrontation and believes he should be praised for it, and also hailed the Uruguayan's talents.

“We should give Suarez credit because when we had a one-versus-one, he didn’t try to cheat and jump or dive, and that was a fair thing for him to do," Cech told reporters.
“We all know how dangerous he is in the box. He’s a natural goalscorer, always in the right place to tap the ball in. It’s a gift not everyone has.

  88. Great. So now we live in a world where players who basically do their job are praised for not giving in to the instinct to cheat?

The very least Suarez and other players should be doing is trying to stay on their feet. It's not something praiseworthy.

  89. Jamie, why are you so negative towards Luis? I am refraining from your views, as they are overly biased.

  90. So what are your opinions on the likes of Nat Lofthouse, he used to score plenty of goals by shoulder charging the goalkeeper into the net. As far as I can see that is just the opposite of players going down easily in order to gain free-kicks or penalties, it's still 'cheating' but because he was a 'good old fashioned centre-forward' it was considered ok.
The fact is that in the modern game almost nobody plays by the rules, defenders are constantly allowed to get away with man-handling and shirt pulling in the box and attackers regularly go to ground easily when on many occasions they could stay on their feet if they wanted to.
I think in many respects diving is less of a problem than shirt pulling, football is played at such a fast pace these days that the slightest touch can send a player flying to the ground. Players going down with just the merest touch are cast as divers when really it's just symptomatic of the pace in the modern game. Diving is no more of a problem now than it has ever been, it's just more prevalent in the English game because there are far more foreign players playing in England than there were twenty years ago. The foreign influx is generally seen as a good thing as it has supposedly raised the overall standard of the Premier League, however it has also led to many British players learning the art of winning fouls by going to ground easily.
Suarez is just a pantomime villain because he has been involved in controversy over the last year and opposition teams are always looking to make out he has dived at every opportunity. I can understand opposition teams wanting to paint Suarez in this way because it might mean they can gain an advantage by making heavy challenges on him while not giving away a free-kick due to it apparently being a dive.
I think it is fair enough to have retrospective bookings for players that have clearly dived in previous games, although if you are going to make this kind of judgment there should also be punishment for players breaking the rules in other ways like shirt pulling and obvious brutality. If this happened as Tony Pulis would like I'm pretty sure Stoke would struggle to field a team on certain occasions as they constantly foul opposition players with their strong-armed tactics.
