Confirmed: LFC 'in talks' with exciting £15m goal machine. Exciting option?

The Agent of Liverpool and Chelsea target Wilfried Bony has confirmed that Liverpool are in contact with Vitesse Arnhem over the possibility of setting up a January transfer move to Anfield.

A report last week in respected Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claimed:

"Wilfried Bony wants to leave the Eredivisie to play in the English Premier League. Liverpool scouts came to watch Bony. They want him, and Everton, Olympique Marseille, Bordeaux and Wigan also scouting him".

Responding to these rumours, Bony's Agent, Dalimor Traore, confirmed:

"Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been considering him. We have been in talks with them. It is clear that Bony has attracted interest due to his good performances and consistency.

Bony is already well-known at Anfield; he came for trial in 2007, but Rafa Benitez decided not to give him a contract.

The Ivory Coast international is in superb form this season, and so far, he's grabbed 15 goals and 2 assists in 14 games for Vitesse, which is a fantastic return. Some more stats:

* Last season: 17 goals/8 assists in 32 league games.
* Goal/Assist every 108 minutes.
* This season: Goal/assist every 73 minutes.

Chelsea and Newcastle are also interested in the £15m-rated striker, whose current contract expires in 2015.

Bony's goal record may be good, but as we've seen with the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Mateja Kezma and other players who came from Holland, scoring a shedload of goals in the Eredivisie doesn't always mean the same will automatically happen in the Premier League.

Worth a bid?

  1. Come on! Get in there!

An African powerhouse that's what we need!

  2. In 2007 he had trials with Galway United and Finn Harps ( League of Ireland ) however he was not offered a contract.

Now, I'm prepared to be wrong about this, but I'm not very excited by some of his unsuccessful trials.

  3. mentioned him a while ago think he would be a great buy, at the right price!

  4. He has good ball control. patience on the ball and scores goal. He is an intelligent goal scorer. His way is just plugging the ball at the back of the net with deception. Reminds me of the great Pele's style. I'm not saying he is the next Pele. But looking at his movement on the ball says a lot.
But I have to agree that the PL and erevedise are 2 different ball games.
    The defense is atrocious there.

  5. I confess I know very little of him other than recalling his name being linked after the trial some years back.

In BR's 4-3-3 formation where do you see him playing? Is he going to replace Suarez as the sole striker with Suarez moving to the flanks? Is this wise given the scoring form of Suarez at the moment?

Or will Bony be played to the left or right of Suarez?

BR does not play 4-4-2 so he's not going to partner him directly - where will he play?

  6. A lot can happen to a player's development in five years, though. We sold Tom Ince for peanuts less than two years ago and he's now one of the hottest young properties around.

And although he's gone entirely the other direction, look what happened to Torres' form and career on the last five years.

I don't think that you can read too much into failed trials when the guy was still a teenager.

  7. True, I suppose. And as we can see in the video above, he DOES look like he's got a lot to his game. He also looks solid - I mean, he doesn't have the look of a bloke who gets injured a lot.

  8. I think Bony will take Sterlings place on the right but not as an out and out winger more as a compact wide player like David Silva who links with a striker but can also go wide.If Sterling leaves which now seems likely this would be the ideal replacement>the money we get for Sterling due to his age will be based on Sterlings achievements with Spurs so we wont get a lot upfront possibly £6m.Maybe use the £6m to get Tom Ince off Blackpool, the only drawback off this is Tom Ince wants what Sterling wants £50k so in reality is LFC biting off its nose to spite its face by not Giving Sterling what they will have to give Ince.

  9. Neither Ince nor Sterling will feature in LFC's plans as they ask too much money for FSG to agree to. Our future lies in the buying in of cheap alternatives that will be the left overs of the top Premiership clubs. We will no longer be regarded as a top club as it is our destiny to become a training/selling club to enable FSG profits to justify their purchase of the club.

  10. I think that's an overly pessimistic view although I'd agree wholeheartedly that neither Ince nor Sterling SHOULD feature in LFC's plans if they're asking too much money.

Too much money is too much which ever way you stack it and while Ince and Sterling are exceptional prospects; prospects is what they are. They remain some way from the finished article.

  11. He told journalists last month his preferred destination would be Chelsea but welcomes LFC rumoured interest.

  12. At last scouting that goes beyond Europe! How I wish we put 10mill on him instead of 35mill on Carrol!

  13. What I meant was European or to be more precise British players!

  14. Youtube can make even Diouf look like a class striker!!!

I watch the Dutch league round up every week on ESPN and theres no doubt he's a decent player but does miss ALOT of chances!!!

  15. PLEASE get him!

  16. If he has to take over the spear head and Suarez is moved back/wide, then I would be happy as, for all his goals are keeping the team out of the relegation zone right now, we need someone more clinical up front and the added competition may benefit Suarez as he, himself, might get sharper.

  17. get him he will score many goal for LFC

  18. Looks a decent player, strong with skill, that's what we need. As long as we get someone in January,we seem to be linked to everyone.

  19. Suarez may possibly be playing just behind him.

  20. They can go on an pick up huge wages at Man City or Chelsea, sitting on the bench or plying for the reserves while their career goes awry. They wouldn't be the first or the last player to place greed above fulfilling their potential by getting regular football.

  21. Sadly I don't think we are going to get him why a man by the name of IAN AYRE

  22. And what if we sign him and Ivory Coast make it to the final of the Africa Cup again? That means we'll just have Suarez still for the full month of January. Now Bony AND Jelle Vossen? That would be my pick!

  23. He seems to carry some weight in the mid section ":)
