LFC hero hails 'hugely influential' £27m striker. Possible January signing...?

The transfer window is edging ever closer, and according to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, at least 'one or two' new players will check-in at Anfield by the end of January. I'm sure most Reds fans are hoping that both new players will be strikers, but who should the club sign? How about Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

During the the post-Chelsea discussion on LFC TV on Sunday, the subject of new strikers came up, and Dzeko was one of the names mentioned as a possible striker signing in January.

Liverpool legend David Fairclough approved of the idea, and was full of praise for the Bosnian International. He said:

"He [Dzeko] is hugely influential, isn't he.

"All respect to him – he’s scored 7 goals in 8 games, which is fantastic, and he wants to play regularly.

"Could we afford his wages though?"

In an interview after Man City's win over Chelsea on Sunday, Dzeko made it clear once again that he is very unhappy about sitting on the bench, and if he genuinely wants first team football regularly then a January move has to be on the cards.

The reality is that - as Fairclough suggests - Liverpool probably couldn't afford Dzeko's wages, and considering the fact he is the Premier League's 6th most expensive player (£27m), his transfer fee would probably be prohibitive.

There's always the option of a 6 month loan, and that could be possibility, and it would probably be a more attractive option to the player himself than an outright sale.

Would City allow a player of Dzeko's calibre to leave on loan though? I doubt it.

Yes, Dzeko is a big, tall striker like Andy Carroll, but that is where the similarities end. The Bosnian has great technique, balance and composure, all attributes Carroll lacks, and, most importantly, he actually scores goals (!)

Would love to see that, but very unlikely to happen :x

Too unlikely... Zaha 20-25 mill, Huntelaar 8-13 in January, and 15 for a midfielder Jan. or in summer. regardless of where we finish this season give Brandon another year to get us to cl, or at least very, very close. 40-50 millions is big money, but so is playing cl...

Worth a shot...

(Rumour) City have to sell at least one striker to sign Falcao. I'd sell Balotelli, but Dzeko could force a move.

Offload Joe Cole and maybe Doni/Jones, we can pay Dzeko's wages.

would be happy to sign Huntelaar but has been made clear he will not join us, will only join champions league clubs with title possibilities

The one from Anji? They are too rich to sell him on a fair price, specially if he proves himself this year.

Orme said...

He said he was not leaving at all, but I think it is just about raising his price- they need to cash in on him or give him another 2-3 year contract, and it is Germans, they are always great with finance and finding talents... they will sell...

For 12 mill they can buy 4 young Turks or ex Yu players and pay their wages, and than sell one or two for another 12...

Tevez is class when on form but Dzeko deserves a shot ahead of him. Anyhoo, I don't see it happening due to the mix of wages and fee.

Apparently Eriksen has rejected a contract extension, according to Ajax's Marc Overmars. Contracts runs out in 2014. Of course could still renew later but not long left contract for Ajax to make best of his transfer value.

Llorente is a similar forward to Dzeko but with better technique and he would be affordable too, only problem would be convincing him to come to Liverpool without champions league football.

Why would you offload jones? He did nothing wrong and doing great.

Orme said...

He would be a jack pot, but Juve is already close...

I may sound like a misery, but I don't think anyone over £10M is "affordable" this transfer window.

Hopefully, I'm wrong.

agree m8 would like to sign huntelaar for small fee and go for a big signing in the summer

Jason Carr said...

eriksen would be a great signing unfortunatly i think his price tag and champions league ambitions will both be out of our reach

hes 30 at his prime him or pepe should be sold to free up transfer funds imo keep pepe unless silly offer comes in

BR talked about 2-3 signings, and any decent player costs at least 8 mill. It is a risk spending it all in one spot, but with Llorente not risky at all... We can't know what amount of many will we have at our disposal, but i'm hoping 25-30. Fsg know they wasted summer and that now it is fail or fly. Hopefully...

That would be marvelous, but I don't see it happening. Dzeko has been strongly underrated ever since his switch to the EPL, but I guess the staff at City are aware of what he's got, so I don't see him leaving.
If Dzeko and Suarez were to link up, we'd be in strong contention for a top four spot over night. His partnership with Grafite was one of the strongest attacks I've seen in all the time I've been watching football. It's not easy to break Bundesliga records.

He would be a good signing, but it wont happen. 1 City would not loan him to Liverpool, 2 he would be too expensive to buy. 3 City would probably like to keep him as an option for attack as he clearly does a job when he plays.

Get Carroll back

Perhaps a loan move for Dzeko could help City - that would make Dzeko inelligible to play against City in league but eligible to play against City's rivals in the league. Liverpool are not going to threaten City any time soon so how could it harm them? And get some of Dzeko's wages paid along the way.
Not sure Dzeko would want to come - that could be the stumbling block for me, if he became available I am sure better teams than us would be interested and more attractive to him...

decent player 8million lol

Dzeko and Eriksen good buy but we must let joe and Downing/Henderson go they are sucking our money from our pocket and not giving us anything good.

There is just no way we will take on his stupid wages of +- 160K a week so lets put this one to bed. :)

Royce677 said...

Dzeko wont leave not only is his wages ridiculous but Balotelli will be moved on and i do not see City wanting to do business with Liverpool unless they want to buy one of ours.

Dempsey and Sigurdsson were both around that price and they've done well when they've played this season.

go on to a spurs site and see what they think of sigurdsson they are not impressed

I've got mates that are spurs fans and they are never happy - #clueless

If they would let go of Dzeko, surely a swap with Agger would be on the cards...if so, then would rather prefer keeping Agger than going for Dzeko..

Is that joke ? Or are you working your way towards halfwit ?

Pete said...

We don't need both Doni and Jones. I reckon Gulacsi can be third choice keeper.

He's a bit lazy, isn't he. A loan deal would do if we don't get some other senior striker in January.

yes please teacher

David said...

Why on earth would City loan out Dzeko??

David said...

What a stupid suggestion.

David said...

Dzeko's better than Llorente. A lot better.

Orme said...

did say at least, and did say decent-not great. if it it is more than that, it means we can afford Llorente which is one of the best news in a long time...
