Negative approach? Brendan Rodgers gets it wrong again...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has gone for safety again for tonight's away game with Spurs, preferring graft and stamina over flair and imagination.

Rodgers has picked the same team that drew 0-0 with Swansea at the weekend; a team that consistently struggled to create chances, and never really looked like winning the game.

Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing retain their places, and the selection of Henderson is, IMO, a negative.

Sahin and Shelvey are more attacking players; they've both scored goals this season, and actually carry a goal threat, whereas Henderson is energetic, staid (when it comes to taking creative risks), and defensive-minded.

If Rodgers really wanted to win the game, he would've selected Shelvey or Sahin; the selection of Henderson arguably indicates a cautious, safety-first approach, which is disappointing to see.

TEAM:

Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Downing, Suarez, Gerrard, Enrique, Sterling, Henderson, Allen

SUBS:

Shelvey, Suso, Wisdom, Sahin, Carra, Assaidi, Jones

If Rafa Benitez was still Liverpool manager then I have no doubt he would've chosen exactly the same team. It bears all his hallmarks (safety first; thinking too much about the opposition etc).

Andre Villas-Boas has done the opposite of Rodgers and gone for the strongest possible attacking line-up:

SPURS LINE-UP: Lloris, Vertonghen, Gallas, Dawson, Walker, Dempsey, Lennon, Bale, Sandro, Defoe, Dembele

Obviously, I hope Liverpool win, and I'll be delighted to be proven wrong about Rodgers making a mistake. Perhaps choosing Henderson and Downing will turn out to be a masterstroke? #Doubtful

  1. I hope we're not playing for a draw. Looking at the fixture list we have a good opportunity to close the gap on fourth.

  2. Can't understand this line-up. We can beat spurs but with hendo and downing in the side its going to make a hard job near impossible. Either playing for a draw or trying to drive their pathetic value up before the transfer window...oh Brendan...

    ReplyDelete
  3. yeah nice and negative jamie, that's how you support your team, COME ON REDS!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Bale would of bad a field day if wisdom was RB. This is a decent line up. Henderson gives us defensive cover aswell.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Downing and Henderson must have done something right in training.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Dont understand how BR got the idea, in putting Enrique on the wing, but as long as it works im really really happy

    ReplyDelete
  7. This is nonsense, lennon will rape downing there, bale will eat hendo, wtf is this choice ffs, couldnt get any worse, and what to hope for this game, win? Draw? Or everybody is sure of a clean defeat, just hope spurs have a bad night otherwise i can see them beating us like last year 4-0

    ReplyDelete
  8. And yet, and yet ... I wonder if Henderson will play in the defensive midfielder role this time, allowing Allen to push forward ...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Would prefer Enrique at left-back so as to keep a settled back line that can gel again going forward.

Would alos like to see Sahin playing more regularly. He seems to have a good understanding with Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  10. to be fair to Rodgers, Downing is not a left back you pick when playing for a draw. Whether you approve or not he is a more offensive full back than wisdom. I can understand henderson playing too. He was given a job to do against wigan and swansea of which he did well! Rare clean sheets in both games too!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Just exactly what Henderson brings to the team. Hope we get a draw, since we playing with nine players.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Brendan "I'll settle for a point" Rodgers picks the same team that played so abysmally against Swansea. Downing and Henderson are dreadful. Contribute absolutely NOTHING to the team! Henderson did nowt but walk around on Sunday and yet Brendan still picks him?

AVB will show how much of a better manager he is by being adventurous, going for the win and having a working philosophy and not "Football Manager" Tiki Taka tactics that Brendan has (may work for Barcelona because they have world class players but it won't work for us without SIGNIFICANT investment by FSG)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Holy crap just look at spurs team best possible line up, i can see a nightmare here i really do, gotta be happy with draw even tho we have so much

    ReplyDelete
  14. How did it come to this? I really love LFC, but feel as i'm being pushed away. No wonder why we've only won 3 so far, Downing and Henderson killed the king last year (along with Adam and Carroll) better off leaving them on gardening leave, 'till their poxy contracts expire. All we need now is Joke 'ole to come on in the second half to complete my misery.

  15. Just seeing your name makes me weep at the lost opportunity, but no use crying over spilled milk.

Interestingly enough I would have expected Rafa to pick a similar team to Rodgers in this one, especially with respect to Henderson as an (admittedly imperfect) replacement for the (still not fully fit) Lucas. Who knows, perhaps a couple of years down the line we will be talking of Henderson in the same way that we talk about Lucas today, though I must admit I was always a fan of Lucas ...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Good observation. Never really though about that. If that's the case then I think we might see more chances created in this game with less defensive duties for gerrard and allen and (fingers crossed) more goals by them getting into better attacking positions

    ReplyDelete
  17. Henderson playing most times guarantees the opposition at least 2 goals against us, absolue worst player ive ever seen play for Liverpool, a total lilly livered spineless choker, you can see it in his eyes and body language, SELL! FREE TRANSFER! anything....JUST GET RID!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  18. P.S, what did Hendo and Downing do against Swansea, to warrant a place in todays team? Rodgers must go to specsavers!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Prediction: Tottenham 2 Liverpool Nil 0

Despite dominating possesion at times with some pretty crisp passing, any and all chances created by Liverpool Nil will be wasted, Spurs will nick one or two at the other end, after the match Brendan will say the players were 'fantastic' and that the 'project' is on course.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If Henderson is the worst player you've ever seen play for us, then you started supporting us about two years ago. Konchesky was worse to give but one example.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Crisp passing...sideways and backwards. That's what Rodgers footballing vision is. It's like Rodger's is trying to turn Liverpool into a team of Michael Carrick

    ReplyDelete
  22. If Downing is playing at left back then Lennon will have a field day. Surely Rodgers wouldn't be so stupid would he? Henderson brings a bit more energy to our midfield than say Sahin or Suso but less quality so maybe he's in the team to help win the ball back quicker..

  23. By the way Jaimie, the title of this article is a disgrace. You constantly criticise others on this site for constantly bringing up Rafa but you do it all the time! You fuel the fires that Sky use to paint Rafa as a negative manager when nothing could be further from the truth. Does it hurt Jaimie that you wanted Rafa out so much and it's all gone wrong since he left? Every time something remotely negative happens to LFC or to an ex or current LFC player, you mention Rafa. It's disgusting and shameful and poor journalism. Is this a news website, a fans forum or an LFC site where everything is done to beat up previous legendary managers?

Rodgers is as far away from Rafa as possible, the only connection being the job of Liverpool manager. Rafa was as attacking as most manager, he just didn't compare himself to Barcelona like Wenger and Rodgers did. Rodgers as an attacking manager is a myth. Possession football it may be but all we do (and Swansea did) is pass sideways and backwards. Negative wouldn't you say? But no, it's easier to side with Chelsea fans and Sky and go along with the negative view of Rafa. People like you are the reason LFC is how it is: supported Gillett/Hicks/Purslow/Ayres and Broughton, criticised and victimised Rafa when he was doing a great job and then have supported the turgid rubbish of the Hodgson/Dalglish/Rodgers eras whilst making excuses for FSG.

  24. The best form of defense is attack ... oh boy!

    ReplyDelete
  25. f this sh.it i'm going home

    ReplyDelete
  26. so forget this so not worth my time

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for the compliment Jamie

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's not the case though unfortunately ... and Henderson has already missed a golden chance to score after a wonderful through-ball by Suarez and a side pass (intentional or not) by Enrique

    ReplyDelete
  29. we are absolutely dreadful, like we always are at white hart now. get downing and hendo the fuck off, they've both already let in goals. hendo can't even fucking score on an open goal

    ReplyDelete
  30. You only support us when we're winning?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I thought that same about Downing.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i support always just not with henderson, downing and reina in goal where was downing for the first goal and henderson open goal reina really almost conceded from the first free kick

    ReplyDelete
  33. tell u what my sister now gave birth but i'm missing it right now for this game don't question my loyalty

    ReplyDelete
  34. OHHH FOR F*** SAKE, GET IT IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN. THAT WAS A F***ING PENALTY ALL DAY. JESUS CHRIST THIS IS FRUSTRATING

    ReplyDelete
  35. one of those days again where our countless slipped chances are just taken advantage of by the other team. spurs can score from anywhere- half their goals are from outside the box. please BR, we need more attack, and i trust you will make another tough call, and tactically adapt to this absolutely shit situation we seem to always find ourselves in at white hart lane. i also can't believe gerrard wasn't given a penalty- is suarez's reputation going to impact on all penalty appeals now?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Halftime report: Tottenham 2 Liverpool Nil 0

A complete and utter DISGRACE (as per usual), making Tottenham look like a class act, very well done your bunch of fooking pitiful spineless chokers masquerading as Liverpool FC.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jordan Henderson can't even score an open goal... What's the point of this guy really please someone tell me, I'm just sick and tired of him, I would punch him straight in his face if I was his team mate

    ReplyDelete
  38. And there was more contact on Gerrard for the penalty than on Dempsey for Jordan 'Stupid Looser' Henderson's foul

    ReplyDelete
  39. when one of your players can't score on an open goal, you know something is very wrong. apart from the wall, nothing could be done about bale's free kick, while downing shoulders most of the blame for the first goal.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We can't rely on penalties to win games though. Starting with Downing and Henderson was a mistake, and if Rodgers has any balls, he'll take both off at HT and replace with Shelvey and Assaidi (with Enrique moving to LB). Then, with 15 mins to go, remove Gerrard for Sahin.

    ReplyDelete
  41. How anyone thinks this is better than the well drilled and organised teams Benitez put out is deluded beyond belief.
We're a million miles away from that level.
    Our defense is horrid...
I'm convinced BR has no idea on how to stop us leaking goals.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Downing and Hendo wtf. BR u wanting to get fired coz ur team selection is idiotic. Even I can select a better 11.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lets Hope all this is just a bad dream and soon we are going to wake up and are top of the League ! (I hope fingers crossed )

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, I would miss my sister giving birth under any circumstances. And she wouldn't want me to attend anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  45. HENDERSON CANT SCORE WITH AN OPEN GOAL NUFF SAID THIS IS TOO EMBARRASSING RODGERS PLEASE PISS OFF MATE YOU MADE US A MID TABLE TEAM AND DALGLISH AS WELL THE HELL IS WITH THESE CRAP MANAGERS WE GET UTTER PATHETIC LFC SUCKS SO BAD IM BEING PUSHED AWAY FROM THIS CLUB AND IM GONNA LEAVE SOON CANT TAKE NO MORE SORRY THIS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH

    ReplyDelete
  46. So, your support is conditional.

    ReplyDelete
  47. On the bench. Probably because he does next to nothing defensively.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well done BR, u prob on page120 of ur football dossier. U a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  49. mate, for someone who is so pro-benitez, you're not giving rodgers a fair chance, considering benitez is renowned for doing the same

    ReplyDelete
  50. And that the free kick was given for a dive.

    ReplyDelete
  51. and now i'm watching utd in the halftime break, a team full of mostly average players, carve it up as per usual....

    ReplyDelete
  52. And I would have thought that you've changed your allegiance now and will be found on Chelsea boards.

    ReplyDelete
  53. You'd qualify playing for Newcastle if you were to punch you team-mates in the face.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Maybe I am watching a different game, but I can't figure out that disgraceful team some supposedly see. We don't play bad, we don't just sit back and wait for counter attacks. If we were able to finish our chances the score would be level. If the referee had eyes, Spurs wouldn't have got that free-kick, but we would have got a pen.

    ReplyDelete
  55. As stated earlier by many .... if you start with Downing and Henderson you will not win games.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sort that stupid pic of the Chelsea manager out.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thought exactly the same thing. Rafa 'avoid defeat at all cost' Benítez.

    ReplyDelete
  58. To think Louis Van Gaal Wanted The LFC job , but our board in their wisdom chose Mr Rodgers and his 180 page dossier which does not cover how to defend, this is getting embarrassing , at the end of the season when we end up in the lower half of the table and the vultures come circling over Suarez , Sterling, Suso etc (sadly we ll be lumbered with Henderson & Downing) , we'll then regret this mans appointment not to mention the bullsh't interviews that it will take time but we are heading in the right direction (downwards towards the championship)
Lets not forget we made two cup finals last year and finished 8th which is looking unlikely this year to be replaced with this !

    Thank you end of rant

    ReplyDelete
  59. Lost for words.... Pony is one I guess. Shelvey is in a good run recently. Where is sahin? Players with a bit of an end product? I wouldn't play Henderson or downing ever to be quite honest. Attack is the best form of defence. We aren't organised and solid like a Benitez team. Oh there you go hendo! As I write this we have scored. If you can't score in an empty goal just kick it at a spurs player and cross your fingers. Get shelvey on FFs or suso. I'd rather lose trying to win. .....

    ReplyDelete
  60. just laughable from Rodgers, the bloke is a pussy. trying to be clever and placing a hand on players that have (never) had a good competitive game for Liverpool.
we are now officially a mid table team, with this manager and these owners.
    just painfull

    ReplyDelete
  61. give it up m8 every man and his dog his turning against rodgers at least i,ve been consistant said he was not going to be able to cut it from day one it gives me no pleasure to be proven right just hope he dose not further embarres himself in his post match interview

    ReplyDelete
  62. Absolutely poor and painful to watch. Side to side to side to side to side to side to side........ Boring football.

Have we forgotten how to run past people to get in behind? We are way to slow and predictable in our build up and then we can't find a way through because every team we play against has plenty of time to get organised against us.

How often in this game have we got the ball forward and there's NO-ONE in the penalty area, let alone the box!!! FFS.

    Seriously losing the faith

    ReplyDelete
  63. Last minute of the game and we're still p!ssing about with the ball. Just bloody knock it in there and see what happens

    ReplyDelete
  64. Fulltime review: Tottenham 2 Liverpool Nil 1

An Absolute F*CKING DISGRACE (as per usual)

    Rodgers OUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. The last kick of the game was another sideways pass....... Says it all!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. If BR has the bare-faced cheek to say that was a good performance he's getting a Chinese Burn and a Wedgie from me

    ReplyDelete
  67. Was Stevie G on the pitch?

    ReplyDelete
  68. its tika taka its what barca do...............................what a load of sh#te !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. This is what happens when we start slow and try to work ourselves into the match. Why not just go for it from kick off. Most teams won't handle that. Disappointing cos if we have more desire from the kick off we prob wouldn't be 2-0 down away from home in 16 mins. We weren't that far off the top 6 today but that's 3 points dropped minimum over the last two games in my opinion. This possession football is all good but players got to make the runs in behind their defence to stretch them and therefore create opportunities. Also it helps if we can score open goals or pick the right pass etc. painful season this is definitely going to be............

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'd bet my house that if we had sat back and waited for counter-attacks in every game so far this season, we'd be higher up the table. Sterling and Suarez breaking like lightening... seems like more exciting football to me

    ReplyDelete
  71. Page 121, of his dossier, never win games and select ur worse players. He is such a pussy, wonder if he has a dossier on how to bed a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I go back to 1966 and Henderson is by some considerable distance the worst player I've seen in a Liverpool shirt. Sunderland fans must have been roaring with laughter when KD gave them 18,000,000 for him. Of course, he'll keep pocketing his huge salary and contributing nothing and you can't really blame him. It's Dalglish and clueless Rodgers you have to blame.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Nothing wrong with the pic, or my argument, just your petty and pathetic reply.

    ReplyDelete
  74. we played well in the second half, just poor decision making infront of goal cost us, especially enrique's decision to head the ball BACK, instead of heading at the near post right in front of him! it took a bloody brilliant free kick from that twat bale to win spurs the game...oh well

    ReplyDelete
  75. As I said above, I started watching in '66 and I've seen nobody worse. Rubbish would be a compliment. Still, if you're satisfied with him that's fair enough. It just shows what your standards are and also the standards of LFC. Basement level.

    ReplyDelete
  76. because it wasn't manu Chelsea or city.......................I don't understand. but the manager and players need to take a proper look at them selves. we should just give downing and Henderson away for free come jan

    ReplyDelete
  77. Brendan has not covered himself in glory so far, but we must not forget the damage benitez did to the club.

    ReplyDelete
  78. your spot on,you forgot reina as well all got to go,just not up to the job.hendo after tonights game i think thats it for him.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Just a reminder: Anyone insulting Rodgers/the players will be banned. You have been warned.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm not suggesting we should go all Hodgson-esque, just that it would have worked better than our current system

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yep, Rodgers really is full of it. Of course, he's never accomplished anything in his life except to avoid relegation, so it was hardly an inspired appointment.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I didn’t watch the game but followed the commentry and while it sounds like we pissed the bed again in the first have, it looked like we dominated the second half convincingly and really put them against the ropes. Having said that, I am not jumping onto the "let's fire the manager" bandwagon just yet. Yes we should have left with somthing here and the tactics were poor but we should not be panicing just yet. There is not ONE game in December we should worry about anything less than all three points. Thats a potential 18pt haul! I'll judge BR come Jan because, by then, we really should be in a much better premier league position looking at this December schedule. YNWA!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. You mean...never.

    ReplyDelete
  84. We dominated for 70mins i.e after they scored the 2nd goal. BR's error was picking Henderson. I'm not Downing's biggest fan, in fact his timidity galls me at times.Today I saw him try to be positive & he put some decent crosses in, it was Hendo who was crab-like in his passing side to side no cutting edge. Have to say also BR needs to drop Stevie G too!

    ReplyDelete
  85. also noticed spurs had a shoot on site attitude, tonight, wonder why?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Absolutely mate. It's like we're watching LFC have a kick about in the park and getting beaten by the big kids from the other estate

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hope is a funny thing isn't it. Come January, next season, then another season, another January....it goes on and on and we go down and down. Assaidi looks shit to me. Never seen him score goals and he looks ok against some minnow teams but overall below average. We are blessed with mediocre budget, players, manager, owners...we are tailor made for a mid-table club.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Its because your watching the game with your rose tinted glasses and BR limited edition pom-poms...

    ReplyDelete
  89. mid table club...thats what we are. get used to it. I see no quick way out with the players we have. Downing rubbish, Henderson beyond rubbish, Stevie G on the cusp of being to old, Suarez gone in the summer...ffs

    ReplyDelete
  90. Its easy to "dominate" when you're 2 down and the other team is sitting back. not good enough. A proper team needs to be selected from the go.

    ReplyDelete
  91. By Christmas Liverpool might, or might not, have won four games. They are out of the League Cup and will shortly be out of Europe. By the end of January they'll be out of the cup. The manager has never accomplished anything and most certainly never will. Clueless would be a compliment if applied to BR. How fortunate for him that LF fans will put up with absolutely any old rubbish at all. Thank God I abandoned the club a good while back and started supporting a real team. But I can't help feeling just a little sad because I remember the time when they had real players, great players. Now they have Jordan Henderson. Yes, it is sad.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Spurs fan here, wow I cant believe your negativity you just dominated us for 70 minutes, we wernt dominated by Arsenal as much as you guys just dominated us and we had 11 men today unlike against the gooners.

Sterling was great, Gerrard is getting unfair stick I watched him ping about 10 long balls to the feet of Sterling......Johnson was good.

I just think today you was beaten by the brilliance of Bale....but I was VERY impressed with you guys

    ReplyDelete
  93. Realistically, the club would have to pay a side to take Henderson. Still, I'm sure he's good for another year or two in the team yet.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Unless Rodgers is putting Downing and Henderson in the shop window, so to speak, then I don't understand their inclusion in the team. Sahin, Shelvey and Assaidi are all much better players. If two of these three players had played against Tottenham tonight instead then the result could have been much different. Downing and Henderson have been at the club for almost a season and a half - I don't think we'll be seeing any further improvement from these mediocre players. Please, Brendan, utilise the talented, hungry squad members you have at your disposal and get rid of these two plodders.

    ReplyDelete
  95. If you can understand Henderson playing you should consider titling your entry 'voice of insanity'.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Hendo and Downing played well. One mistake by Downing but lets hope he learns from it, shame he had to make it in the PL, but that is where we are at. Enrique looking good in the midfield and getting forward.
Proud of the boys tonight, fought harder to get back into it then they have for quite a while.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Actually enjoying watching Liverpool play more now than I did a long time before Rafa left, yes we are not winning but the plan for the future is exciting

    ReplyDelete
  98. While you all are slating Hendo and Downing, it is rather obvious majority of the fault was Gerrard's, it took him forever to get into the game with Bale and Dembele run past him with ease in the first 20 mins, BR should take responsibility for this loss, that wasn't cautious line up, it was plain cluelessness

    ReplyDelete
  99. Do the lottery mate - you were bang on :)

Brendan must buy buy buy & sell sell sell. & at some point - ATTACK

    ReplyDelete
  100. Democracy in action. What exactly is one allowed to do? What about a gentle sigh when someone ( no name mentioned ) misses an open goal? Too strong? Thought so.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Sadly, Liverpool don't have one. Next suggestion.

    ReplyDelete
  102. We never had control of that game at any stage.
Spurs scored three goals... Liverpool didn't. Period.
Explain to me where the improvement is?

Also, It was apparent to everyone we needed cover for Lucas after last years injury debacle.
Yet BR choose not to bring in a specialist DM.
As such, our defensive frailties continue... Astonishing.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yep, winnng the CL and buying Torres, Alonso, Garcia, Masch, Crouch, Reina, Sissoko, Aurelio, Kuyt, Agger, Bellamy (first time round), Arbeloa, Pacheco, Benayoun, Lucas, Skertl, Johnson, Riera. Laying the foundations for what the Academy is starting to become and produce. Siding with the fans and being outspoken against Hicks and Gillett. Oh, a second CL final. Won the FA Cup and the Community Shield, finished 3rd and 2nd....

He did also buy a lot of rubbish but I can only think of 4 or 5 players that cost any real money: Morientes, Aquilani, Keane (although I think he'd of done well if we kept him), Babel, Pennant (I think he was 5 or 6 million??).

He did lose it a bit in the last season and a half, but I don't think he did massive damage to the club. I think that really has to blamed on Hicks and Gillett, Hodgson a little bit, hate to say it but KK too and then Comolli.

I don't worship Benitez and have never really (maybe a little bit) been a fan of bringing him back, but we were a better team under him then we are now.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I wish I checked this website before the financial crisis, I bet some of the miserable people on here were predicting the end well before it happened.

Get a grip people, you want to play the young players but expect results straight away.

Two things are hurting us, we are short on attacking options, we know that, and players are either getting used to the system or are inexperienced and making mistakes. Fix these two and we are on our way.

Total faith in Brendon Rogers, never had it in Hodgson or Kenny

    ReplyDelete
  105. It seems like we have an inferiority complex against spurs now, as they just always seem to batter us. We started the game so slow, terrorised by Bale an co and that's what cost us the game.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hendo and Downing played... I don't know about the "well" bit though.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Exactly, please see my comments. Gerrard has conveniently escaped criticism> Whilst people are demanding Allen to be more attacking the real responsibility of driving the team forward is Gerrard's and he isn't doing it! I also think we're too light weight. We need some pace & power-only Enrique & Saurez showed this!

    ReplyDelete
  108. i give up right whatever u want to think of me thats u right have a good day

    ReplyDelete
  109. if u look back on my comment history you would see that that is not true soooo think u need to do a little research before u make bold allegations

    ReplyDelete
  110. Its the midfield that is shambolic. Joe Allen just seems to get worse every game he plays. Henderson is meant to be an attacking midfielder but being asked to play defensive. Gerrard has been a liability all season and looks unhappy and very cumbersome in possession.
The midfield is the engine room, unfortunately our engine is from an old Ford Cortina, but it has leather seats so it looks good.

    ReplyDelete
  111. All I'm saying is that Southampton, Villa and Fulham at home, and away to West Ham, Stoke, and QPR are games we should win. For a club like Liverpool that shouldn't be a question. I understand we are not the club of old and cant compete again the big dogs, but these 6 games SHOULD be wins for our current squad (hendo et al). 6 straight wins and 18pts can change our entire season. If BR can't deliver that, then there should be a serious revaluation by management in Jan before we spend any money on new players.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Ha ha, Ford Cortina with leather seats. Brilliant :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Erm, I was replying to Steyg. You did notice that, didn't you. You may have also noticed that I didn't mention that I am satisfied with Henderson's performance in the comment you were replying to. I actually don't know what you are on about.

If you really think that Konchesky, Degen and Voronin, among others, are overall better football players than Henderson, well, then you might think again.

    ReplyDelete
  114. There is pretty football, and there is effective football.

Sadly, we don't have the caliber of player required to play pretty football AND be successful in the EPL.
Thats gonna cost big bucks, and our owners wont be splurging those sums.

So we have a choice to make.

Play pretty football with second rate players and be mid table, or
Play effective football with what we have and can afford.

Its that simple, however I fear BR doesn't understand the above.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Rodgers says Pool is close to top 4. Maybe he needs spectacles. I see pool closer to bottom 3!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Well, winning promotion is accomplishing something, too. By the way, the manager so many on here harp on about, Rafa Benítez. You know what he accomplished before he was appointed by Valencia. Exactly. Promotion and not avoiding relegation. The big difference is that he found a pretty good team at Valencia which had been to the CL final the season before (or two seasons before). Shankly by the way had won zilch when he took over at Liverpool.

Don't get me wrong, I want us to be successful again, too, but the damage has been done long before Rodgers joined us. He didn't exactly inherit an all conquering side. To be precise, he's inherited a side that was in relegation form for at least half a season. Ah, lest we forget, a side that has won the League Cup against opposition from a division below, on pens.

    ReplyDelete
  117. No, Jason, I won't give it up. In my eyes Rodgers hasn't done too much wrong. Not enough to ask for his head. It's not as if he's taken the job at the current champions. Our squad was so strong that we were in relegation form since last Christmas. I for one didn't expect him to turn it around in four months.

    ReplyDelete
  118. That's a pretty silly comment given that you've been supporting LFC since 1966. And given your age.

    ReplyDelete
  119. David, you obviously put one man ahead of the club. That's really sad.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Fuck off then you pathetic excuse for a football fan , you believed with the terrible investment last year & extremely poor quality in the team at the moment that we should be up there with the best , Rodgers is doing a fantastic job with what he's got I just hope the board aren't as short sighted as some of the idiotic Liverpool fan imposters

    ReplyDelete
  121. Erm, you are a few years late with that assessment.

    ReplyDelete
  122. You may have a point there. Unfortunately people would be even more on Rodgers back for playing negative football.

    ReplyDelete
  123. If you love Rafa that much, why don't you jump ship?

    ReplyDelete
  124. You're right, it takes a brave man to stick to his principles, but a smart one adapts to his environment. So yes more emphasis needs to be put on the end product

    ReplyDelete
  125. I didn't think that Spurs dominated us. It was a pretty open game with one team scoring from a mazing run down the wing and a free-kick from a dive while the other team refuses to score at all. It actually isn't a new problem (us not scoring). Last season we've lost the corresponding fixture 4-0. Now, that was embarrassing. Today we gave it a fight with our young, thin squad.

Agree that we need cover for Lucas.

Guess you have an excuse for all of Rafa's shortcomings. Would be nice if you actually supported the club and it's current staff and find the same excuses for them.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I think what we'll regret most is that one and a half year ago we've spent way over 100m which should have been enough to assemble a far better squad than the one Rodgers inherited.

    ReplyDelete
  127. We've been a mid-table team for quite a while now. Just in case you didn't notice.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Jamie have you now seen the light after how many months. i wont tell you I told you so. this team is degressing not progressing. Id even prefer you as manager lol. Trust me ud get better results. our points are worse than this tine last season.

    ReplyDelete
  129. No-one able to beat a man, no-one in the box. A bit like last season then.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Every time we knocked it in Spurs were able to counter. You may not like titicaca, but hit and hope isn't better.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Of all the anti Rodgers folks on here, you are the worst. You are a disgrace to our club.

    ReplyDelete
  132. No, I'm still behind Rodgers, and still convinced we'll come good. Sometimes, it has to get worse before it gets better. This is only the first defeat in 9 Premier League games, so I'm not fussed.

Yes, the league position is not good but all the top teams are playing below themselves this season. Arsenal and Everton are both close to the relegation zone than the top of the table.

If we don't beat Southampton on Saturday then that will be my first real concern of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yes, and he was actually better than against Swansea. Doesn't say a lot, I know.

    ReplyDelete
  134. He also inherited a team that had qualified for the CL, unlike Rodgers, who inherited a team in relegation form for half a season.

    ReplyDelete
  135. There are quite a few insults already. Guess you can't delete them as fast as they come up.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Tonight I can count the folks on here who have something positive to say on one hand. Kudos! You obviously understand the club anthem.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Didn't Rafa lose is last 2 visits to White Hart Line???????

    ReplyDelete
  138. Great to get some perspective, too. Unfortunately many of our own fans are blinkered by either their hate/dislike towards Rodgers or their love towards Rafa/Kenny. As they say, no one man is bigger than the club.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Funny that Spurs fans come on here and tell us that they don't understand our negativity as we dominated them for 70 mins. I didn't see much of a battering either.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Last year we were battered at Spurs. According to the game I've watched and for example the Spurs fan who commented a bit above you we dominated them for 70 mins. I think it is progress from being battered one season to dominating the next. At that rate we might win at Spurs next season, for the first time in five years.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Pretty certain we controlled most of the second half. Spurs played like how we use to play under Rafa in Europe wait for teams to make a mistake then hit them on the break.
DM players are okay when teams hit you through the middle but Spurs and other teams just play round them.
3 at the back might have been better tonight to combat Bale and Lennon defender coming across to cut them off, instead of players trying to chase after them and being left for dead.

    ReplyDelete
  142. 2 seasons later he got us back to the CL final.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Sorry, remind me again who got the three points today...

    ReplyDelete
  144. Yeah, but better not remind them. It was the fault of the board/owners/kit man/bus driver/weather. You should know by now that Rafa never did anything wrong. It's all someone else's fault.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Worst record than kenny and roy. We are behind Swansea, Fulham, West Brom, West Ham and Everton and we we are a league away from the teams at the top!

Rogers is all talk and no trousers, you have been taken in by the blarney. He has never acheived anything as a player or manager. He was the cheap option because AVB and Martinez turned us down.

This will all end in tears.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Going by that logic, Brendan will have us back to relegation form in two years?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Has anyone noticed that there isnt a word about Bales dive?
if it was suarez then there would be headlines everywhere.
I understand the media ignoring a first time offenders dive but Bale has a history that just keeps getting ignored.
im by no means saying suarez is innocent in his past actions but english media is trying to run him out of the game but talking Bale up to be on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo

    ReplyDelete
  148. Go and check the official site if you didn't figure that out yourself by now, doom monger.

    ReplyDelete
  149. the reason for his selection was obvious! I guess that makes our manager who works with the players all week insane too! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  150. I watched the match after the two goals were scored, and from the replays, Downing was to blame for not watching or anticipating a runner. Maybe he thought Reina would have had it, but a player, such as Bale, whipping it in like he always does, you shouldn't have too much faith in Reina getting a hand on it. And then there was the free kick, some bad luck on that.

And I will say this only once because it hurts me to say this but Steven Gerrard is done in the midfield. There were too many instances in the game, especially the first half, where it was Allen and Henderson trying to cut out a pass and close space and Gerrard was in no man's land, strutting and not even trying to get the ball back in possession, just plain ball watching.

Would it hurt Rodgers to try dropping Gerrard or putting him up front with Suarez? The attacking aspect of Liverpool's game needs a shake up. There were times where we would have the ball on the outside of the box, but it was only either Suarez or Sterling on the last line of defenders, and the on the odd burst it would be Enrique making the run or Johnson. This is not enough, thats why we are not scoring goals. Tottenham were way more effective. Everytime they brought up the ball to penetrate the box, it was Lennon, Bale, Defoe, Dempsey trying to play off the last defender. Then you had Dembele switching it up as well with Walker as wingback. When you have this sort of movement and a good ball in, goals happen.

I think we have the right players, maybe another forward to buy, but we need these players to be more fluid, and direct. It's no surprise why Suarez has got the most goals. Hes always "trying" to make things happen, Sterling, Enrique and Johnson have it the locker too. Other players need to step up.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I get a little worried that Rodgers is maybe intimidated to take Gerrard off?
I recall Benitez bringing him off for lucas againts everton and everyone was going off about it even though lucas set up the winnner

    ReplyDelete
  152. Downing at left back shows how desperate we are to shuffle things around.

He did as well as can be expected, just has no experience there - give away first goal.

Hendo frustrated me in 2nd half

We badly need some decent players, to supplement squad

    ReplyDelete
  153. Sorry I interrupted your cheer leading session, I was just hoping for some FACTS....

    ReplyDelete
  154. LOOOOOOOOOOOL spot on my friend... Welcome back lucas, you couldn't have come sooner. Feeling sorry for allen at the moment because he is starting to show just why he isn't a natural defensive midfielder having done superbly from day one. 'MUST WIN vs southhampton and show ramirez what he is missing ;)

    ReplyDelete
  155. Dear martbadger, I have no idea why you even bothered to comment on liverpool you sad excuse of a fan. Go back to the plastic club or the mancs or wherever the hell you came from. People like you make me sick. #YNWA to every liverpool fans all over the world (except you). #ONE DAY

    ReplyDelete
  156. Jimmy saville touched me. :(

    ReplyDelete
  157. I can't even believe Hendo is still at Liverpool. If he refuses to leave why still play him ? He's a negative player n best at playing the ball backwards. But we can't blame him being around. Thanks to KD. But why does BR field him still ? Downing (downer) n Hendo (passenger) must go or they just need to be loaned out n the club taking them do a West Ham deal like Carrol's. But best is to offload them immediately permanently.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I'm sure that's the only thing they did which sadly was enough to turn BR's head around. BR should realize that it's not hard to please Hendo. He doesn't want to get injured n he will not even over 3 seasons (mark my words) n he will never get his jersey dirty(keep close eye on him...begining till end of match). Give him the jersey n sit at a corner and he will be fine on the bench. Just be sure the cameraman takes a few shots of him in the Red jersey n he's good. Really....

    ReplyDelete
  159. Hendo should not play at all. Not even warming the bench !!!

    ReplyDelete
  160. I couldn't agree more. I've never in my life seen a 'player' pull out of challenges like a little girl more than Henderson. It's embarrassing to say the least. 50/50 ball is guaranteed to be won by the opposition when Henderson is in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  161. we were 6th last xmas before we lost suarez hardly relegation form plus we had 2 cup runs this year wer not even in december and the seasons over you can defend rodgers if you want it dose not make you right [not saying i am right]but for gods sake the alarm bells must be ringing

    ReplyDelete
  162. SOS Lucas Leiva!

Gerrard should be dropped. Grow some balls BR.

Next six fixtures are all winnable. Minimum expectation should be 5 wins.

    ReplyDelete
  163. and what if he started with suso or sahin they dont track back like henderson does ,gee dude your such a great manager why dont you stop writing this negative dribble and become a manager your self ,were progressing as a team quite well i reckon and players are adapting to a new philosphy , and in hindsight we deserved atleast a draw in that game despite letting in them 2 early goals , i find it so contradicting you say your a 100 percent behind brendan rogers but at the same time you write an article about his team selections if you were a 100 percent behind the manager no matter what side he put out you would have no need to question his starting line up

    ReplyDelete
  164. Good morning people. I'm a long time reader but occasional contributor. I just can't believe some of the fairweather support and comments I continually see on this site - I actually think that most of the people on here support another team and simply enjoy posting nonsensical messages which have no basis in reality. Anteater seems to be one of the few here who actually understand the magnitude of the task BR was/is left with and can see the steps he is taking to improve our fortunes. Rome wasn't built in a day and our biggest rivals have shown what stability and having faith in the manager can do for a club - Rodgers cannot play the same 11 players every game and so has to rotate a squad which everyone can see is not as good as those of at least the top 6 - the squad is not of his own creation and the players that are most criticised are those whom the previous regimes(s) wasted millions on. I have complete faith in Rodgers nd look forward to the days when those of you who constantly criticise come back on here claiming to have always stood by your club and always believed in BR and FSG. You are not supporters, just fans who cheer when we win.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I don't know why BR persists in playing Henderson and Downing. These spots could have easily been filled with other players. Jack Robinson didn't do to badly against Arsenal 2 years ago, sure he could have started.

They are both ineffective. Why play Downing as a left back if he cannot defend?

    SMH!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Kenny has ruined Liverpool by spending total 83 mil on Carroll, Downing, Hendersen and Adam!!! With the amount of money could have signed Juan Mata, Kun Aguero and Yaya Toure!!!

    ReplyDelete
  167. It wont take him 2 years to do that we are almost there now.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I like Rafa and king kenny but I always hatet to have an x manager or player back to club again....we must move forward guys, we must bulid on the past not bring it back again.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I thought they were a little unlucky against Spurs BR has done a wonderful job with the kids so they have lost a few so what thats rebuilding for you.
On the Henderson and Downing issue i think BR needed to rest one or two and wanted Enrique on the L.W.
Henderson was awful against Spurs and i have seen plenty of worse players at Liverpool but none cost anywhere near 16 mill pounds.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I won't say that Rodgers did everything right so far, and I won't claim that I am happy with our results or league position, but I truly think that in most games we deserved more than we've got. I can see a pattern and truly believe that with the right additions to the squad results will get much, much better. Those cup runs last season were nice, though I'd have preferred emphasis on our league form. All the money that has been spent should have got us back into CL recognition, not winning a bloody League Cup, which is a second rate competition which we won on pens against a team from a division below. Some of the performances and results on the way to the final were pretty impressive, though.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Maybe by then we only have supporters left who understand the wind, rain and storm parts of our club's anthem.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I'm a fan of "tika-taka" but not in the last minute of a game when we're not playing it progressively and need a goal for a draw.

There's a time and place for everything. Last night in the last couple of minutes we should have pushed Skertl up to CF with Suarez next to him and lobbed balls in from wide. We were losing already so 1 more goal from Spurs would have made no difference, but 1 more goal from us would have meant a point

    ReplyDelete
  173. playing with downing and henderson is so stupid and retarded..i dont know what rodgers was thinking..i feel ashamed to be called a liverpool fan when i see these two parasites play...

our only option is to buy cavani..he may be our saviour! but i doubt our blind manager and owners will consider that option!!

    ReplyDelete
  174. Agreed mate. Im usually one of the worst offenders for knee jerkism. But, iwasnt at all worried after watching the first 45mins. I missed most of 2nd gutted. So i cant really speak for that. What i did see though was us taking spurs apart time and time again. Just one of those games i think. Id like to see downing along with henderson sold if they make a marked improvement by jan.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Enrique, Shelvey, Suso, Aassidi??

    ReplyDelete
  176. On the contrary, if you read all my posts (at least one of which seems to have been removed for reasons unknown), you will see that I am doing exactly that - giving Rodgers a fair chance for showing tactical awareness. Attacking football is great to watch, but not if if means getting hammered at every opportunity like Newcastle in days past (something that cannot be said of their team today). Attack and defend as a team, get the tactics right to win the game - this is what I miss from Rafa's time with Liverpool. Rodgers has surprised me positively, for example in the game against Everton, through his tactical substitutions - and more generally has impressed with tactical acumen. What we now need is for FSG to provide serious funds for serious transfers IN JANUARY, so that Rodgers can challenge for the CL places. And perhaps Rodgers has to make that point more clearly to FSG, instead of talking about 1-2 loan signings ...

    ReplyDelete
  177. Better than getting hammered right, left and centre, like our last visit to White Heart Lane ...

    ReplyDelete
  178. Don't worry anteater71, Martbadger is not even a Liverpool fan, so he is just winding us up here

    ReplyDelete
  179. I was hopeful he would help balance the midfield, in the event he cost us an open chance at goal ...

    ReplyDelete
  180. Common anteater71, I respect your opinion, but you must admit that 2 championships for Valencia in 3 years was no fluke. What other team has managed that against Barcelona and Madrid in modern times?

    ReplyDelete
  181. FSG have to support Rodgers NOW to make the changes he needs, Liverpool must make it to the EPL places and time is running out ...

    ReplyDelete
  182. Rodgers is showing signs of combining a philosophy for the club with tactical acumen. Actually, very similar to what Rafa was doing, albeit the style is different (Rodgers is more about possession, Rafa about pressing and rapid counter-attacks). If we are not winning, however, it's all for nothing - and it does look like Rodgers (or anyone else for that matter) needs some serious backing from FSG to sort out the team and start winning games.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Also behind BR and you are spot on when you say he has not a team to choose from, but...
What he has got is 4 solid( to say at least) defenders, and Suarez up front, so line them up. that leaves you with 5 spots in the mid- fill them midfielders and make your magic inside of it, dont brake the only good part of the team just to get all of our lines with something missing. with lukas back and let us dream Cavani in Jan, we are still contenders for cl spot, act like it, don't play downing and enrique both off their positions- could've done better yesterday...

    ReplyDelete
  184. I've been saying how bad henderson is ever since I saw his first 3 touches on the ball with our shirt. He's the antigerrard.

    ReplyDelete
  185. tired of hearing the same excuses EVERY game! we all know whats wrong, when will it be fixed?? will we live long enough and will it be done on the cheap??

    ReplyDelete
  186. No he couldn't.

Nonme of those players were about to sign for anything but a top 2-3 team. We didn't have CL football to offer, and also can't afford the wages they are on.

yes they were a mistake, but don't make out that we were ever in the running for those players.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Henderson has not contributed much in the last 2 games, asise lots of running around and missing an open goal. I think Rodgers wants to put him inthe shop window, or at least we can hope.

Maybe he'll do a Lucas but I don't think he has Lucas' strength of character so it's unlikely....

    ReplyDelete
  188. Brendan Rodgers really made a mess of it tactically. Inmy opinion Bale was allowed to much time and space, do we really have to sit and watch Brendan learn how to be a manager, we should have broke the bank for a top proven manager a man who has won something and who has a desire to win more, Brendan Rodgers is the biggest mistake this club has ever made regarding managerial appointments. He thinks red net and an old sign back up and saying the right thing can fool the fans well guess what it has fooled thousands but not me, I can see through his mind games and his pathetic tactics and excuses

    ReplyDelete
  189. The three you mention were absolutely wretched. So were Peplow, Livermore and Mclaughlin, whom I endured many years ago. I could go on. But I still believe Henderson is poorer. And the irritating factor is that he is included in the side over and over again. Of course, that could easily be remedied - boo him every time he touches the ball i.e. about three times a match. Sadly, LFC fans will put up with just about anyone and anything so you're stuck with him for ages yet.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Also respondiong to anteater71, how bad Henderson is? Yes, Veronin, Konchesky and Degen is better than Henderson. I rather a player who can be so good in a game and bad in the next than a player who's just content running around even if hardly touch the ball. For me it's easy to manage Henderson. Give him a clean set of jersey to put on n warm the bench n he'll be happy. But be sure the camera don't miss a shot of him in any game. Can anyone tell me when if ever Henderson had an injury in any season caused from fighting for the ball or got his jersey dirty in any one game. Please .... I mean from sliding or scuffle over the ball or being tackled for the ball he has had. He is starting to make Jimmi Traore(LB) looking even better as days go by. Let's drop even Hendo discussion. I feel like a monster now. I have over the period he arrived praying that he come good with FSG aproach of buying young for resale value garbage. It can happen obviously but that applies with young outstanding talent like Mata, Sterling, Suso Sturridge etc .... Not free riding passengers . Yeah he must have done something very right during training to make BR even consider him on the bench. I hope to not engage myself in making people see that Henderson is not to blame.... He just isn't good enough for the Premier league let alone Liverpool FC. Period !

    ReplyDelete
  191. He got it wrong and will continue to do so...

    ReplyDelete
  192. You have your opinion others have theirs....

    ReplyDelete
  193. Right, but we didn't get hammered this time.

    ReplyDelete
  194. I will never understand why people comment on another team than their own. Well, maybe if their own team has no boards to comment on.

    ReplyDelete
