'We want top players' - BR's new transfer update, plus injury news on key duo...

Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane tomorrow night, and ahead of the game, Reds boss Brendan Rogers revealed the latest on the club's injuries, and his plans for the January transfer window.

In his pre-Spurs press conference this morning, Rodgers gave mixed messages about transfers; on the one hand, he suggested that Liverpool 'will bring in' top players, but he then hinted that there would be no real investment in January. He said:

"We always want top players and the top talents, and this is a club that will bring those players in.

"If you haven’t got the investment then you have to find other ways of doing it, and that’s where we are at the moment.

"That’s the great challenge, and it’s a challenge that we accept".

In another interview earlier this morning, Rodgers confirmed that money will be available for transfers in January, and confirmed that he would try and bring in 'one or two loan deals', which again suggests that there will be no actual signings in January.

I wouldn't put too much stock in Rodgers' public statements though; he's not going to reveals the club's actual transfer plans to the world, is he?

On the injury front, there was good news. Rodgers said:

"It [the injury situation] is fine. Andre Wisdom will be back and available. Lucas is back in training, but he won’t be involved in the Spurs game. The Squad is okay – piece by piece we’re getting there, and it’s looking strong"

Rodgers also reserved special praise for Jose Enrique, who had another excellent game against Swansea at the weekend:

"He [Enrique] has been outstanding. He and I spoke earlier in the season about trying to develop his game.

"He’s been a real plus for us; he’s a real threat when he gets in the final third of the field. He’s worked very hard – he’s a good guy, and he wants to do well for the club".

  1. So is that mixed messages or could it just be he dont really know what he is on about and is getting confused?

  2. As I said in the previous article:

I got a hunch that 2 players will make their way into Liverpool this January. Darren Bent on loan (permanent transfer option) and Tom Ince for 6-7mn.

That is it, no more player and no more funds. Also, I don't see too much transfer activity next season. FSG are into cost cutting thanks to 100mn wasted by KD and limited resources available to FSG.

And, BR has full backing of FSG as he is the type of manager FSG want. One who has mid table expectations, cheap transfer targets/ cheap wages and most importantly a YES MAN.

  3. Too much discussion of Chelsea and Benitez, I have Stamford Bridge on the brain! Well spotted.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Are you suggesting that FSG have 'mid-table' expectations, as I don't think that's true in the slightest.

If they did, why would they give Dalglish £100m+ to spend?

FSG are being prudent after the catastrophic waste of money under Dalglish (for which they are also culpable), and that's the right way to proceed IMO.

A club not in the CL cannot afford to waste more money.

  5. I think you will be fairly close with the above statements.
Striker wise I guess he is figuring on Borini being available by the end of the transfer window to.
My concern with the strategy on wages is that they have been doing everything to get rid of the 100K a week brigade and have more or less achieved that, bar a few high earners in Cole, Downing and of course Carrol which is being supplemented.
So for the future which "really" top players will look at us when if they are that good the likes of Chelsea, Man City etc will offer at least double!
it will prove very difficult and I hope LFC (owners) have thought this through!

  6. The emerged trust from Rodgers in Enrique is a positive, as it shows he is not prone to ignoring players and can give them another chance.

But this January transfer talk has made me realize that unless we sign some quality players, the policy (or, due to previous failings, the inevitability) of relying on a combination of young players and underachievers places us in real danger of not restricting the underachievement of 2010-2012 to just these couple of years, but becoming a mediocre team in the long term.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Also Man City and chelsea and the likes will be offering Champions League which is something we wont be able to for a long time by the looks of it

    ReplyDelete
  8. he needs to play gerrard up front with suarez.we are linked with players who are bottom half of the table players i hope we get at least 1 top player in jan

    ReplyDelete
  9. They're also finally starting to get somewhere with the stadium, despite the seeming waste of £100m. Doesn't sound mid-table to me.

    ReplyDelete
  10. That may become more possible when Lucas is firing on all cylinders

    ReplyDelete
  11. Do you think there is any truth in the Darren Bent on loan rumours? I would take him on loan, but not to buy.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes I have got really fed up with so many links on the NewsNow Liverpool site!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Probably as its the kind of deal we do now

    ReplyDelete
  14. Never tell potential suitors you have a big pot of money. I would have thought that was obvious. Newcastle would never have asked £35m for Carroll if they didn't know we'd got £50m in our sky rocket...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah i think your giving him more credit then he deserves, wait till January and watch us miss out on quality and sign "promising" players on the cheap again..

    ReplyDelete
  16. Then how do you expect to get into CL? cost cutting?

    ReplyDelete
  17. he don´t want the world to know that liverpool have alot of money to spend on the players... he want top player but cheep

    ReplyDelete
  18. Again, I will repeat what 'I' think that we should lower our transfer ambitions for few more years (2 or 3) until we make profits and FSG recoup all the money they invested (or KD wasted). After that, we might have good percentage of 'annual profits' made available for transfer activity. I don't expect FSG to invest more than what LFC is able to earn (i.e. from their pocket), they will run the club like a normal stable business/no sugar daddy stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  19. i can live wth a Darren Bent loan n a scoring winger Ince 6m...at least v b stronger...v r developing in other department n attack is the only urgent one

    ReplyDelete
  20. By bringing in Darren Bent as a loanee player will be totally wrong and a step backward. I am wondering, as everybody else should do as well, how Thomas Werner's statement after the Wigan game “actions speak louder than words” approach to what could happen when the market reopens in the New Year goes in the same direction by bringing in average players. When will we finally learn that average players as Darren Bent do not reflect of LFC's history and status?

    ReplyDelete
  21. We real need a top class goal machine. I don't real understand what FSG are thinking, but we need someone who can put away those chances we get every game.In my view Klaas is the right man to do the job. Someone tell me that this guy is on his way to Anfield.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It was in the clause, isn't it? When they bought the club? They were obligated to build a new stadium (or something like that) but they went for the cheaper solution. Am okay with it. Though that actually can add another hindrance for increasing transfer budget. IMHO we should scrap every other off field project that adds pressure to on field performance. We should right now only concentrate on improving league position if we want to improve our stature as on field performance will help more than expanding stadium which can be done later or even better a new stadium if we become successful enough?

    ReplyDelete
  23. First of all tomorrow's match will be THE match that defines our season. If we lose it, we better prepare for finishing lower than we have in recent seasons. If we draw, something between five and eight, probably eight. If we win, anything is possible.

As for transfers, I honest to god don't understand what we would do with Ince. We already have young, English and enthusiastic on the wing so how would his situation have improved compared to when he left? Is there a buy back clause or was he on a free?

Anyway, it would be foolish to overpay more than we need to in the January window. A couple of loans would do me fine. A striker, a real holding midfielder (how is Mascherano doing at Barca??) and a dead ball specialist, preferably a right winger.

    ReplyDelete
  24. they bare vhappy with mid table thats why they employed a clown as a manager exactly the same league record as roy lol

    ReplyDelete
  25. things won't change under BR, he is a mid table manager who knows how to manage mid table players. If we brought in a coach who has coached and achieved results on the world stage, he would have bought world class players. As supporters we are hoping and praying for January to come and the promise of better quality players, sadly this won't happen....even if BR has the money to spend. Look at who he has brought in this far.... Borini and Asadi, average players who will perform well at mid table clubs. We need proven goalscorers not average players like Borini.

  26. we mite want top players unfortunatly they dont want you rodgers you teams crap and you talk crap its cringe worthy watching his interviews hes making us the laughting stock of world football this man and his employers could finally finish lfc of as one of the great names in world football

  27. Masch played plenty at Centre Back last season for them and was probably their second best CB at least, although that is also criticism of Gerard Pique. So been a regular fixture for them. Not watched them a lot this season but not been as good, although seems to be because he has had to partner another DM Song at centre back or youngster Bartra, as Pique and Puyol have had injuries.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think initially FSG had no idea about how the transfer business works or about inflated transfer tags on British players and also they trusted too much on DC and KD judgement (can't blame them as KD was fan favorite and had a bit of success the previous season). They fired DC and sacked KD for wasting money so it means they now know or learned how to go out about the transfer business and not get fooled second time around.

But I think they have learned a bit too much as they are now implementing a way too conservative approach then they actually should. Dempsey no-deal explains their approach. Only sanctioned deal were BR choice as they HAD to give something to a new manager to work with, which am afraid might be 27mn wasted again.

After having realized they cannot work with this unsuccessful transfer policy implemented previously, they are now opting for the money ball policy which worked at RedSox (though not for long).

This clearly rules LFC out of the top 4 competition for considerably long time from now unless Arsenal or Spurs go Liverpool way or worse, which is unlikely.

These are all my opinions, you may not agree with it.

  29. Guys, guys, guys. There will be NO big name signing in January. BR and FSG are already preparing us for that with their vieled contradictory messages, and after the window closes we will be told - wait to the summer signings come it will be soo different - no it won't, it will be the same old story of anti-climax!!
Unfortunately we are suffering with Mr Moores pack with the Devil/s a few years ago.
Think we all need to get used to everything that comes with being a mid-table club - owners, manager, players.
3 wins 3 loses and 5 draws, that myfriends is a glimpse into the future, like it or not.

  30. How sad it is for Liverpool supporters to hear BR say that he is happy with the point gained at Swansea....for farking sake, THIS IS LIVERPOOL!!!!!! it is the mentality of a mid table coach.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Totally agree with KB above.

    Nuff said really.

    ReplyDelete
  32. are you trying to insinuate that rodgers his playing it cleaver ,not having it the man is incapable of that thats why he comes out with the same shit£ in every postmatch interview the least charistamatic manager i,ve ever had the misfortune to listen to he makes hodgeson sound riviting

    ReplyDelete
  33. Agree 100%, at the moment that is realistic but who really knows if the club are bluffing to keep transfer fee's lower?, Bent has a top record but he's fallen out with Lambert at Villa. A deal to swap him for Downing is a possibility too???

    ReplyDelete
  34. No my friend. We will never get used to this abnormal behavior of FSG and BR. If in January they won't bring in quality players then we, all pure LFC's fans we must be unite and protest by any means we have. Be all ready!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Come on lads look at Bent's record as a goalscorer, he would massively help Suarez right now!!!. We want better but he might just be the best at present, why not?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Come on lads don't be so negative, we are gradually improving; Lucas is almost back, Enrique, Johnson, Agger, Skirtel and Suarez are playing really well. Stirling, Suso, Allen, Shelvey and Henderson are young and gaining experience - let's be patient. Seven unbeaten with Reina looking back to his best.Although I think Stevie G needs a rest !. BR deserves a good crack at this club, requiring our support; you are all sounding like Chelski fans !!!!! .

    ReplyDelete
  37. Agree with KB too, Rogers is changin the whole mentality of our glorious club with comments extolling results such as the draw at Swansea, honesly cant get my head round kk,s sacking for this bloke, sure, Kenny made mistakes but we d have had more points on the board & i think a more optimistic , iam fully behund BR now he,s here but have nit felt this glum about us since the Souness era.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Can these Kenny dalgleish haters please get a grip - the kings net spend was £26m after recouping £50m from Torres alone not too mention other no hopers. We were in a better league position last year under Kenny and made 2 cup finals. What's the bets we don't do that again under Buck!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. BJ64 - your line about Rogers changing the mentality of the Club is ever so true.
Tell the masses the same thing over and over and they will follow!!
Everything about him just says "I'm happy to be here" shown no ambition at all for me and if 3 wins in 13 is fecking progress then God help us. That said, fans will eventually buy into it which brings me back to your comment about Rogers changing the mentality of the Club
    Scarry times ahead!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. low 'net spend' doesn't justify poor quality 'expenditure', so I'll hate on KK II for most of his signings.

    ReplyDelete
  41. How on earth can you make such ridiculous comments!! Bringing in someone high profile does not guarantee immediate success... where was Red nose before he came to United.. where was Jose before Porto.. where was Arsene before Arsenal... they were all mediocre managers who were given a chance to shine and build there own team!! Rodgers has been in 5 minutes and everyone is slating him.. its ridiculous!!! How do you know Borini wont develop into a proven goalscorer.. he is only young and learning his trade with one of the best strikers in the world (LS). For 10 million i'd say thats a bargain!!! People seem to forget that FSG have been brought in to stabalise the club.. pardon me if I have got this wrong but were we not on the verge of going under!? FSG are in my opinion a successful organisation who are doing things the right way!!! You dont become a Billionaire by being a schmuck!! We are not a Man City/Chelsea or Man U and will not splash cash willy nilly like some of you seem to think. BR will be given time to build his own team and then we can judge what type of manager he is.. until then people need to keep their traps shut!!! The only good thing about this post is that we need a proven goal scorer to assist LS.. whether that comes in Jan or in the summer. Patience is a virtue!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Aye, we have been on a downward spiral for years. I've gotten used to it. It didn't start with Rodgers, he is simply intensifying it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This is really disappointing. Rodgers has made a few mistakes in letting Carrol go on loan and pissing off the tea lady perhaps. We are 8 matches unbeaten and played well against Swansea without winning. Rodgers has had very little to spend and bought youth with what he had. The jury is still out, but all in all, allen looks good (although perhaps not 15millions worth). Borini has not had enough time to adapt and Assaidi looks half decent for only 3 mil. New players, new manager- year of transition. We are playing a better style of football. Rodgers has received nothing but praise from the players.
Let's not get our knickers in a twist at this stage and get behind our manager. He may be a bit inexperienced, but he has vision.
Also, lets not blame rodgers for having no money to spend. That we must blame on FSG. Going in football to make money is just stupid and can only result in pissing off fans. Once you have a good young team like tottenham you can begin to balance the books, before that you have to put money in. Sort of like the Euro crisis

    ReplyDelete
  44. Everyone is worrying about nothing. this is all posturing to drive prices down. Jamie's report, with quotes regarding Son from Korea/Germany prove that there is money, only, for the past 20 years we've been getting rogered on fee's. That is all about to change, and about time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Look what is happening to RedSox if you actually believe FSG is a successful organisation.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's that simple! But people don't want to understand.
If FSG were happy with mid-table and underperforming they would have kept KD!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ahhhhh the glass half empty! or is that totally empty!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I won't lie i am more than a little worried about Rodger's public utterings. I want to see an aggressive Liverpool once again competing for the best players. Any real fan wants to see their team mixing it up with the bigger clubs competing for the best players. I realize that Liverpool has fallen from grace of late and that this lion has lost it's mighty roar in the transfer market. If our recent activity in the previous market has been anything to go by.

It was disturbing to read that we are being linked to Guisseppi Rossi a player with a broken foot who is only available cheap just because he is injured and his club got relegated. Not taking anything away from the Italian's quality on the field but please tell me our first choice transfer target is not someone who won't be able to come in and make an immediate impact on the squad. Even more troubling to hear that we are also being linked to Darren Bent. While Bent has been a strong performer in the past especially in his days at Sunderland playing for Steve Bruce. He is hardly the same player he was a couple of seasons ago. His production level has fallen off at Villa and he has not been considered by Woy for the national team in quite some time. It would seem that he is no longer desired at Villa Park which is why we are pursuing him. I don't really like saying this but it seems that Liverpool are only content in pursuing players nobody really wants. I don't think there are many people asking for the services of Darren Bent at this point in time which is why BR suddenly has interest in him.

Rodgers comments have been confusing to say the least. While claiming that funds are available fans are being told that they should not expect heavy spending this January window. So while i do not claim to be Sherlock Holmes I can safely go as deduce that we are going after players who are unhappy at their clubs and affordable for dirt bottom prices. In the 2012/2013 season balancing the clubs books and showing a profit margin of any kind seems to be the ultimate priority for FSG.

While we are being linked with every one from Klaas Jan Hunterlaar, Theo Walcott , Daniel Sturridge and whole host of others i can't help but feel that Liverpool will only settle for very cheap bargain basement deals bringing in people with no real pedigree. I really hope i am wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  49. We are the mighty reds!! Little by little the whole winning fabric of the club is being eroded, even up to a few years ago we were CL contenders
& looking to take the next step to challenge for the title , now were led to believe if we improve on 8th & win bugga all weve had a good season! God give me strength, i love this club with a passion & its killing me to see us swimmin with the minnows

    ReplyDelete
  50. If you're going to criticize a man for being boring can you at least spell the words you are going to criticize him with correctly? Your arguments are ludicrous

    ReplyDelete
  51. So Rodgers thinks a point at Swansea is progress, we were crap in that game, fact. Looking for a couple of loan signings in January, what a joke! all we'll get is players that can't get a game for their clubs or someone that cost a couple of million and sit on the bench. Top club needs a top manager, so appointing Rodgers tells you of the ambition from FSG. No wonder Martinez turned us down, probably get more cash at Wigan.

    ReplyDelete
  52. sorry this is so long - bored at work :)

I agree both with the fact that FSG don't want us in the mid-table and the fact that since we missed out on the CL, spending mad money isn't a luxury we have. I believe that FSG backed Kenny with the millions assuming that, as many of us supporters have cried out for years, if we can challenge chelsea and city in the transfer market, we can AT LEAST get into the CL. We challenged them in the market and didn't get close to them in the league. The blame has to lie with both KK and Damien Camolli. They were so eager to buy young and british that they forgot a fundamental point…the team needed to work together. Every team has a philosophy.

Benitiez, as contentious as his transfer policies might be on this site, built teams to perform in cup competition and that's why we would be so frustrated with the likes of luis garcia during league play but hailed them in the cup games. They were bought to be pieces in Benitez's cup team puzzle. Kenny's team had no identity or real structure with players often being played out of position. FSG are not going to invest stupid money, and why should they if its clear money doesn't always work. My guess is that they have said to rogers "we will get you a striker, but anything else is on you to recoup from the deadwood and reinvest. If you get the club back to the CL, we will back YOUR plan going forward."

Rogers needs to prove himself to the owners I think, because If I was the owners I would be thinking 'if he could do well with that swans team then he should be able to get top 4 with what he has." Not saying that's the right mentality but if you were the owners looking at about 100pound down the toilet, you too would want to make the manager prove himself before you threw away more cash.

As fans, for the most part, I think we can agree that BR has the right tactics in mind. Suprisingly after that shocking start to the season, we are only 9pts off fourth! If anyone is foolish enough to buy downing and the rest of the deadwood in Jan, that money + funds could be enough to buy the couple of peices for that push for fourth (cause I believe we are a good team now that just needs the final cutting edge). If we do that, I am sure we will see another considerable financing from the board come the summer. The major question in my mind is what TYPE of player BR elects to pick up in Jan. Will he buys players that add to the end product of his philosophy (final ball/finishing) or players that only add to the current status of that philosophy (pass them to death, no cutting edge in the final third)

    ReplyDelete
  53. He's starting to sound like he's full of shizzle. I would rather he shut up than give the schizophrenic messages he's given at the moment. Don't get me wrong I think he's doing adecent job with what he's got but he's beginning to sound amatuerish in the transfer market. Essentially fans need to know what kind of club are we if only to manage expectations. Are we expecting to challenge for honours again? Because if so chasing around for two bob loan deals won't work. I know that Kenny messed up big time. But if that 9 month period of transfer madness was enough to sink us just say.

    ReplyDelete
  54. they are bottom in the east league and 3rd from bottom in the american league haha

    ReplyDelete
  55. i want to agreee with you. If Liverpool are indeed serious about competing for honors this season then they must pursue talented transfer targets with gusto if that is not the case then Rodgers should just shut the fuck up and stop giving mixed messages. I want an aggressive Liverpool one that would compete tooth and nail and against other teams for the best talent. I want a Liverpool that demands the best for itself and from it's players and won't put up with the lackluster performance we are getting from certain members of the squad.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Brendan Rodgers on TalkSport...that's a problem for a start. We are bigger and better than to have our manager sell himself to that hideous radio station....we leave that to the Redknapps/Allardyce's of the world.

November 28th is when Tottenham will play Liverpool. In truth, I've feared this day since the fixture list was announced. Not because of Spurs or the impending disaster I knew Big Mouth Brendan Rodgers would be for us this year but because I knew I would glance to the Tottenham dugout and think what might have been had we appointed Andre Villas Boas as manager (if rejecting Rafa and going for the "young" manager route. Don't let the British press and media scum fool you...Andre Villas Boas is a top manager in the making and has won trophies and been a silverware winning success (unlike Brendan). Why on earth wasn't AVB appointed in the summer? Simply because he has ambition and is his own man...two things Fenway do not like (obviously) we missed out on him and are stuck in an Ulster nightmare of which I am already restless with.

Brendan and Fenway...is that what we have come to? Both are out of there depth and both are doing untold damage on the club. Fenway have no money to compete and should sell up. Brendan has got very lucky , is out of his depth and should do the honourable thing and resign. We need significant investment from serious owners (not a City/Chelsea type owner as such) and a manager with a real idea and not something he has inherited from better previous managers and developed watching Revista De La Liga.

  57. Are U a Liverpool fan or what...your so negative with your storys...get behing the manager and the team..fourth is still there for the taking and thats what the reds are going for..if yer not happy cross over Stanley park and support the blue $hite..

  58. To many sad negative Liverpool supports on this site..get behind the team and manager fourth is there for the taking..were playing better ever wk with what we've got..get a couple of right players come Jan and we will climb that table .....Y.N.W.A

  59. To many negative Liverpool fans on here
.get behind the team and manager..fourth is there for the taking and were playing better each week with the squad we've got..a few good signing come Jan and I guarantee were climbing up that table..Y.N.W.A

    ReplyDelete
  60. So the anti-Buck sentiments seem to grow with each point dropped.

Bear in mind that: 1.) this squad is not truly his yet 2.) there is truth in what he says every week about needing time for the players to take his ideas on board. Think back to the first seasons' (1999 and 2005) of our two most successful coaches in the past 20 years who also needed to rebuild from scratch, Houllier and Rafa - the results are never consistent or even brilliant during these periods; and 3.) no manager whether it be Jose, Pep, Rafa, Klopp or Hiddink would have had us doing anything more than challenging for 4th spot this season with our current threadbare squad.

It is very possible that the team will suddenly click, go on a good run of winning games and we steadily climb up the table. When Buck first took over at Swansea, the team faced a similar period of inconsistency from August to Jan but they suddenly hit a purple patch and began to excel with Buck winning manager of the month in Feb and Swansea eventually winning promotion to the Prem.

I just wish more fans would have the decency to give Buck a little time and be patient while he works on the team, rather than being such petulant children who throw their toys out of the pram every week.

  62. You're a Liverpool fan right???? Tell me all of his transfer busts, it has not even been a full season, relax. You should layoff the charisma comments, especially if you are going to bring up Hodgson.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think you don't know what your on about!

    ReplyDelete
  64. So true, I agree with the fact that BR shipped out the middle of the road players such as Adam,Spearing,Caroll, and Kuyt (worst touch in history) Maxi and Bellamy wanted to leave...but I appreciated them including Aqua...but I'm looking forward to the new era - youth and the quality players Liverpool deserves...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Difference is BR plays attacking passing football and shows faith in the youth where as Woy loves to back off teams and invites pressure...mid table mentality never the LFC way...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Pro...really? All AVB has done since he set foot on English shores is lose and systematically reduce teams to shadows of their former selves. He must be locker room poison.

    ReplyDelete
  67. What's the difference between AVB and Brendan? Why is AVB getting more stick than Brendan when AVB is doing better than Brendan and has achieved more?

"Locker room poison"...a phrase straight from the hacks of Fleet Street. Just because he isn't 'wheeler n dealer' 'Arry, the press and the tub-thumping Little Englanders have it in for AVB.

AVB would have done brilliantly at LFC. I still hope he will come to us 1 day when Brendan is but a distant member of the hall of shame with Hodgson

    ReplyDelete
  68. I can't see us getting anything exciting done. We should have a look at John Guidetti. It isn't like we are going to get a big name striker, so why not try a loan with an option to buy built in? It'd be better than splurging on Sturridge or (God forbid) getting Bent in on loan.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Bent?! Yeah lets play him up front with Downing and Cole. Oh and sell Suarez and Sterling while we're at it. -.-

    ReplyDelete
  70. I cant believe people actually want Bent. So many better alternatives-if Huntelaar wont come then Walcott/Sturridge/Bony/Zaha/Ba/Abumeyang/Tello (loan)/de Jong etc

    ReplyDelete
  71. Bent is QPR level. He'll go to them. We got Sahin, and poached Borini and Yesil from big European clubs, so we can get better players than him thats for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  72. AVB inherited a stronger squad, and has had an easier fixture list.

4 of Liverpool last 5 games are against West Ham, Reading, Southampton, Villa & QPR all of whom Spurs have already played along with the other weak teams.

Judge after 19 games at earliest...

  73. 1st time on this site....just have to say I've been reading all the comments on this site for a while now so thought I'd join in...that jason carr... god he never has anything good to say about BR always slating him, whether it be about his team selections, pre and post match interviews....give the man a chance for christ sake, we were not much kop before BR took over ok we made 2 finals but it was not convincing even tho we beat the bigger clubs on the way we were still average...we moaned over KK purchases so BR got rid of 75 % of them. LFC as a club now, are not what we were years ago we know that the so called top players will probably not sign for us (unless they're die hard LFC fans who would give their right arm to play for the club) coz we are not as big now...18 to 23 year old quality players would have grown up watchin the likes of Arsenal/manure in the prem....we are down the pecking order now and BR is trying to install a system which will run through the whole of the club under 15, under 19's etc.....I watched Barca the other night and in the last half hour of the game they made 2 subs...every player that was on the pitch came through the academy...good stuff!!...I dont know what J Carr expects after 13 matches...we are playing some good stuff just need to convert more and with more help who knows....get a grip JCarr like to see you do better....in BR we trust.

  74. Cole to QPR (free), Downing to Sunderland (£10M).

Ince have a £4M (have35% sell on clause), Bony (£8M), Tello (loan).

That would give the club a great base to move forward, but probably need a more experienced head in there.

The worse Newcastle do the easier it would be to get Ba. Walcott and Sturridge are also impending Bosmans with good likelihood of coming to Anfield.

We can look forward to getting £25M for Carroll, Spearing and Wilson (and another couple for Pacheco who he doesnt seem to want) next summer, with a likely net spend budget of £20M.

  75. i know football and i know kd was unlucky last year missed chances ,hitting woodwork ,suarez ban etc,but throught it all i always believed we could beat anyone this season any result will do i dont believe we can beat anyone i just take one game after another and hope we can finish in a europa league position cl no chance massive game against spurs today optomistic no, hoping always

  76. Clearly FSG have no intentions of throwing money away, BR inherited an enormous amount of deadwood and a massive wage bill, a lot have left the club and more still have to go (Downing, Cole etc), the next phase is to rebuild with low cost but quality players who have the potential to make a profit on resale at a later stage, the club has to be rebuilt on a sensible financial philosophy, one that is sustainable and does not result in the club ending up in debt and perhaps even under Administration (heaven forbid)
The question in my mind is "can BR identify the right type of player?" ...so far I would say "yes" except perhaps for Borini I think the answer is yes, but I do find Allen's deterioration a bit worrying, but then again so does Gerrards performance worry me, his body language shouts out "I don't care and I don't want to be here" maybe he should be taken out the frame once Lucas returns, that approach seems to have worked with Reina.
Where does this leave us, well as difficult as it is for us to swallow (and believe me I have supported the Reds for 30 years and these past few years have been hell.....no let me rephrase that ...."its a bloody nightmare" every game we lose, or draw, every pathetic performance, every game of possession that consists of 90% back passes or sideway passes, the lack of goal scorers (other than Saurez...bless his heart) all these things pass like a knife through my soul.....but you know what ....we all just have to bite the bullet and hope they know what they are doing......if not what is the alternative????

  77. But his preferred position is in midfield. I'd love to see him back in front of our back four. We really did have the best midfield in the world with him, Alonso, Gerrard and Sissoko...

    ReplyDelete
  78. I've read all the messages on this page... Quite a lot of tubes on here. Wow! Ok, let's take a look: kenny and Damien overpaid on downing/Carroll/Henderson. Cole's contract is ridiculous also. It's transfers like these and the contracts that are the problem because after £100m + spent there is no progress. Therefore fsg have quite rightly thought we must offload players to reduce wasted expenditure, before they re invest. They are thinking this could happen again. I think that's a fair point and I would be thinking the same. We, as fans are desperate to see lfc up there again with quality players like mascherano alonso Torres but first we must clear the decks. This takes time. It will be at least until next summer. To those slagging Brendan off- this is real life. It's not football manager 2013. He wants to lfc to play a certain way and changing the team's style takes time. It takes hours of training studying his ideas and match practice. Having already played man united, Chelsea, arsenal and tonight spurs, we are doing well considering we have thrown a 17 year old up front. Andre wisdom at the back. Suso has played a lot. People need to be realistic. It's a transitional season and that's all there is to it. It's hard to accept because lfc shouldn't be in this situation but we are but we can't go forward without taking a step back and sorting out our operating costs.

  79. Thanks for your comments, cugsy. Agree with you re Rodgers - he's on the right track, and this time next year things will look a lot different.

    ReplyDelete
  80. like Ince and sturridge for example.
Buck is as clueless as Hodgson. Opens gob first before brain in gear.
Why is Ferguson being allowed to comment on LFC transfers.
Kenny and Rafa would never have allowed it
this apprentice of a manager too frightened to stand up for the Club

    ReplyDelete
  81. I doubt he pulled out the champagne when he got home mate

    ReplyDelete
  82. Then it seems you didn't watch all the games last season! Simply pathetic performances against Fulham, Stoke, Wigan to mention but a few. At least we are having consistent performances now without spending loads of cash on players who have nothing to offer!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Well put mate!! and they'd have spent 20m to buy James McCarthy from Wigan.

    ReplyDelete
  84. How many goals would Terry Mac have scored under the apprentice's philosophy
    Probably none
2 away victories and 2nd lowest goals scored in EPL last season. At least better than Hodgson

    ReplyDelete
  85. they did not give KD £100m to spend. You obviously believe Babel, Merialles (however spelt) and Torres went for gratis

    ReplyDelete
  86. do you actually watch LFC.
    Attacking football??????????. I wish

    ReplyDelete
  87. agree they was some bad ones but theres been plenty pathetic performances this season arsenal, hearts home and away wba to name a few and wer only a third into it

    ReplyDelete
  88. You probably know what a football looks like, but that's the extent!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Agree.
BR can't make his mind up whether we're buying top class players or not making any changes in January. There won't be any decent signings in January, because clubs only get rid of players they are desperate to lose, receive ridiculous offers for or have contracts running out.
Played 13 Won 3, Lost 3 GD 1 and every performance was "outstanding"???

    ReplyDelete
  90. Yes I watch LFC but I also have constructive comments to contribute. BR's teams are always set up to be offensive with pace on the wings, with Sterling and previously Dyer for the Swans, with mostly a 4-3-3 style of play similar to the likes of Barca. Love KD but too many times with had Carra hoffing the ball up to Caroll who would in turn stumble like a show horse... great £35mill purchase....

    ReplyDelete
  91. ha ha lol who rattled your cage just face facts more and more fans are starting to see rodgers and fsg for what they are

    ReplyDelete
  92. results dont matter attacking dont matter its all about keeping possesion prefably between our own back 4 ffs even pepes made better forward passes than allen

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well put! My only point is I don't think that BR's current philosophy is to pass them to death without an end product. I read and interview where apparently he spoke to Gerrard and Carra and asked them who they thought were LFC players and took that into consideration.... So I believe he got rid of the deadwood in order to bring in quality players in the final third.

    ReplyDelete
  94. It definitely is his best position by far, the DM role but can't blame him if he wants to stay at Barca for the long term as they are at the top of the food chain, even if he is playing out of position.

    ReplyDelete
  95. ARE YOU SURE THAT YOU WATCH LFC BECAUSE IF YOU DO THEN YOU WOULD KNOW THAT KD'S PREFERRED CHOICE AT CENTRE BACK WAS AGGER AND SKRTEL AND NOT CARRA. i AGREE ABOUT THE HOOF BUT DONT PRETEND THAT THE APPRENTICE WAS THE GUY WHO DROPPED CARRA.ALSO IF YOU KNOW ABOUT LFC OUR PROBLEM LAST SEASON WAS NOT GOAL CREATION BUT GOAL CONVERSION. BY ALL MEANS BLAME KD FOR THE WOODWORK AND THE MISSED PENALTIES BUT DONT PRETEND WE WERE DEFENSIVE.
THIS SEASON OUR PROBLEM IS CONVERSION.
THE FOOTBALL IS DEFENSIVE IF WE HAVE POSSESSION THEY DONT.IT IS POSSESSION FOR ITS OWN SAKE AND CRAP ENTERTAINMENT. BUTCH WILKINS WOULD FIT INTO THIS PHILOSOPHY AND BE A STAR

  97. COLE WAS SIGNED BY HODGSON NOT KD BUT FACTS DONT MATTER FOR THE RODGER APOLOGISTS

  98. I'm not sure if you could call all the players he let go deadwood especially since bellamy was our top scorer while kuyt and maxi were notorious for scoring when it mattered. I think they just didn’t work in his philosophy and I wont harp BR for that. What I will question is him not replacing them with people who did fit in. We needed a striker and a DM and while we all know what happened with the striker plan no one has mentioned the DM position our team needs to address as bad as up-front! The system needs a DM and if lucas cant find his fitness we're going to continue to struggle because BR will keep playing allen, gerrard, or nuri in a possition none of them can play at the sort of level that's needed to make the team click. IMO striker (obviously) in jan and a DM to provide cover AND competition for lucas

  100. I agree I would not call Bellamy, Maxi or Aqua deadwork... Kuyt hard worker but not a huge fan I felt he worked well with Suarez though

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yes I do watch LFC but don't claim to be the 'all seeing eye'. But I'm glad you agree with the hoof statement since I never said Carra was KD's first choice or BR was the one who dropped him. My point was it seemed as though too often we chose the long ball option if Caroll was playing... £35mill... Also the problem this season is the same as last season which is conversion, but BR only brought in 3 players so the squad's not entirely his own. If you read what I wrote clearly I said BR sets his team UP to be offensive not that KD doesn't. It's a shame when so called LFC supporters claim they back LFC and then slate the manager a few months into his job. I'm disappointed that I wasted my time explaining this to you...but such is life...
Also you appear more intelligent when you write in caps.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hey apologies for that statement ... although I disagree. I buy into BR's strategy, but I do agree we need some wins sooner rather than later...

    ReplyDelete
  103. the apprentice has brought in 4 not 3. If you demonstrated a level of intelligence you could count and also not distort history

    ReplyDelete
  104. I fear you are correct

    ReplyDelete
  105. Do you think Borini and Allen are value at £26m

    ReplyDelete
  106. 26m very little???????????????????????????????

    ReplyDelete
  107. I also don't think FSG have those expectations either i think they very possibly could be trying to get things in order for the finance measures which will coming into play before long.

Kenny's buys sure didn't work out but we did recoup a fair whack of that on the players sold in the same window i can also understand their reluctance to repeat that so soon but they went the other way this window and now we are very thin up front hopefully they will learn from that and get the balance right....We are very much a work in progress on and off the pitch and recent results suggest we are at least starting to become hard to beat which is encouraging add some decent firepower to that and surely it will move us onwards and upwards.....All this is gonna take time but were heading the right way and at least H&G
or should i say beavis and butthead are gone

    ReplyDelete
  108. lol I can count! I was talking about our first team... Yesil was brought in for the future. So 3 was intended, and not to a distortion, even though your perspective seems to be...

    ReplyDelete
  109. lets see, Borini one, allen two, sahin 3 and oh assaid four

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yes Sahin my apologies... good player done more for the team than some of the deadwood we cleared out that was brought in last season.

    ReplyDelete
  111. is that the same deadwood that beat chelsea, arsenal, man c, manu and everton.
    some wood some tree

    ReplyDelete
  112. yes the same team that lost against Bolton 3-1 a team that got relegated...
There's actually a strategy that FSG are trying to implement for the future so we can win and dominate...
Not blow money and cripple the club as you seem to endorse. If you hadn't noticed we didn't make CL with the deadwood in the squad and actually set us back...But I'm sure you wouldn't understand...

    ReplyDelete
  113. So borini worth 11m, Allen 15m, Sturridge the guy the Chelsea dont want 12m and Ince whom Borell would not give a contract to 6m, sigurdason and dempsey who cant get into spurs team another 10-15m
    careful spending indeed

    ReplyDelete
  114. Last time I looked Sturridge, Ince, Sigurdasonand Demsey don't wear LFC shirts! I was talking about money that we actually spent not hearsay... But guess it shows your mentality. Anyway off to watch LFC game...not sure what time the Everton games on but I'm sure you'll find out.

    ReplyDelete
  115. two of them went to spurs despite the best endeavours of the apprentice and I sincerely hope the speculation is wrong about the other 2.
Despite your accusation of being a blue I want LFC to win but we would be better placed if KD or another of proven experience had been our manager

    ReplyDelete
  116. I can see that one thing that i can appreciate.

    ReplyDelete
  117. No, I didn't think they were value when we signed them. At the moment, early days whether they have proved that wrong or not.

    ReplyDelete
  118. what can you say, lets blame everybody, kenny, rafa anybody but our clueless, over-promoted,in-experienced manager

    ReplyDelete
  119. The cult part of your name is right.

  120. Rednose was at Aberdeen before Man U. They had won the SPL and a European Cup Winners Cup in his last season there. To put that in perspective, for those that harp on about what Benitez did before LFC, he was the first manager in decades to break the Celtic/Rangers stranglehold. Relative to their competitors, Real Madrid and Barcelona were much weaker at the time Valencia won La Liga, than Celtic/Ranger were in the 80s - the season after SAF took over Utd Souness became manager at Rangers and they went on to win the SPL nine years in succession, and nobody other than Rangers/Celtic has won the SPL since.
Mourinho... I believe Real Madrid is the first club he's managed that didn't win the title in his first season... I seem to remember Wenger winning the double in his first season and Arsenal hadn't won the title in 7 years at that point.
You only have to watch the body language of our players or listen to a post match interview to see that Rodgers will never been in the same league as those three.
