'He is the best!' - Benitez or Rodgers? Suso reveals his favourite LFC manager...

Rafa Benitez made some fantastic signings for Liverpool during his time at Anfield, and one of the best is undoubtedly Suso, who yesterday signed a new long-term contract with the club. The Spanish starlet has now worked under Benitez, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers now, but who is the best manager of the lot?

Speaking to the official Liverpool FC website this week, Suso was asked to name the best manager he's worked with since arriving at Anfield, and the 18-year old answered without hesitation:

"Brendan Rodgers is the best coach I have had.

"He really likes young players and if you are working hard, he will give you a chance and you can take it.

"He is honest and if he sees you are working hard in training every day, he will give you a chance.

"The manager is with us every day and we're improving every day with him".

In another recent interview , Suso - openly who admits that he is a Real Madrid fan - was asked about his football idols. He responded:

"I don't have idols, but there are many players that I admire, such as Messi and Cristiano [Ronaldo], Xabi Alonso, and Iniesta"

Four amazing players to be sure, but where does Suso stand on the Messi vs. Ronaldo debate? He explained:

"I'd think Messi is the best because is more decisive, and it will be long time before we see another player like him. However, I have to say that Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player that is also at a high level"

Suso put in another accomplished performance against Reading today, and long may he continue to be part of the first team squad.

  2. who's your favourite manager Jaimie - Benetiz or Rogers?!!

  3. He's never even played under Rafa so what's the point of mentioning his name in the title?! You should change it to 'Rodalfo or Rodgers'?

  4. i think he cant say that so far.
and if i would be suso id say the same, because rodgers is giving him a lot of firstteam experience...

  9. he won a cup last season and took blackburn into the prem to win it, so brendan is not in the top 20 lfc bosses 1 win against reading and he is the new messiah my arse he is the only tool who would star in a trash tv show on chan.5

  10. calm the feck down muppet no one is saying Brendan is the new messiah he's got a long way to go but I do think we can go far with him and anyway we haven't had 20 managers in our history Brendans the 19th so how can you say he isn't in our top 20 managers?

  11. Last week Suso claimed that things under Kenny where different (read into that whatever you want), while Hodgson was a better guy than he had thought. To me it's obvious that Suso wasn't the biggest fan of KD.

  12. what a stupid comment, I bet you think all Fergies achievements were because of team being shyte aswell. Teams weren't shyte we were just too good as the late great Bill Shankley said "My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility" and that's just what he did which carried on after he left.

  13. Won a cup final against a team from the division below us, lest not forget. In a penalty shoot out, too. While winning a cup is always a good thing, the final wasn't exactly something to write home about, unless for Cardiff supporters. They've had the better chances to win it, too.

BTW, will be interesting to see how long your comment lasts on here as you insult our manager. Clearly against the house rules.

  14. Its way too early to evaluate BR as our Manager.

  15. Very good achievement that title at Rovers but it wasn't some miracle though, considering Walker piled in loads of money into that club in such a short time (not a criticism of Walker as he was good for the community).

  16. I'm sorry, but what game were you watching, best two players on the pitch were Sterling and Johnson, they caused havoc down the left side, 80% of our play went down the left side and their link up play was top class, plus they both tracked back brilliantly. Have to give a mention to Brad Jones who put in a top drawer display as well.

  17. Let's face it, Dalglish won the titles for us with a side that Joe Fagan put together, the same Joe Fagan that won us the European Cup multiple times, as well as the League and the cup multiple times. When the top LFC managers names get thrown about, Fagan is very rarely up there, yet he is a better and more successful manager than Dalglish.

  20. Like the comment about Jones. He can be a great keeper but needs the opportunity. I think Pepe needs a break. Jones prooved he was a good keeper when at Borough. Just needs to get a chance.

  21. suso was good in the first half.. don't think he was involved in the 2nd half...johnson,enrique were like free flying wingers on the left side...

    ReplyDelete
  22. since he's getting some games under BR he likes him...and suso definitely deserves it..

  23. It's fine to prefer Rogers to Benitez just don't mislead people... It's cheap! Suso was signed by Benitez but he was never coached by Benitez and you know it Jamie. Be fair in your analysis and statements

    ReplyDelete
  24. yes he signed him but never had the chance to manage him therefore your title clearly doesn't make sense. How can suso ever say Rafa was the best manager he ever had if he never had the opportunity to work with him.

You take very chance to belittle our previous manager...shame! It's becoming very predictable; your next article: 'Rafa breaks promises to ex liverpool star Rayan Babel'

  25. How old was Suso 4 years ago when Rafa singed him? You must be joking to quote that Rafa didn't play him!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. KD took over a champion winning team from Fagan!!! In early 90s only MU and Newcastle were signing more foreign players. The season Blackburn won the title Cantona was banned for 9 months!! It was a once in a life time chance that Kenny won a title with Blackburn.

    ReplyDelete
  27. LFC has too many old time brainless fans like Anthony Finnigan who is still living in the past glory!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rafa signed Suso at the age of 15!! Rafa also signed Alonso, Mascherano and Torres for a combined fee of 41 mil but they were sold for 102 mil. The 2 ECLC finals, 1 semi final and 1 quarter final under Rafa had also generated over 100 mil prize money for LFC. The current defensive backbone of Lucas, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson and Reina are all signed by Rafa. Shelvey, Pacheco, Kelly, Robinon.....the list goes on and on.....

  29. I get your point, but you are mixing up something here. Probably Paisley and Fagan. Fagan only was our manager for about two years during which he has won one Championship, one League Cup, one European Cup. The team was basically built by Paisley. There are some people out there who claim that Dalglish inherited a very good team, champions, maintained that standard (by signing proven stars in Barnes, Beardsley and to a lesser extend Aldo, less proven), but failed miserably in building for the future. Souness then, it is claimed, inherited an aging squad and tried to change too much too soon. I will reserve my opinion on that one, but what I know is that Kenny is seen as a hero today, while people slag of Souness.

  30. And he also signed Babel, Degen, Jovanovic, Morientes, Pellegrino and so on. For every good signing he's made two bad ones. Yes, he took over a team that had qualified for the CL, yes, he maintained that status, yes, he's made us proud, but as time went by he lost some of his marbles. By the way, given the sheer amount of players he has signed (revolving door anyone) one would expect that he at least left a team with a solid backbone behind, albeit on unsustainable wages for a team outside the CL.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow, he should have played at 14 years old!!! What a talent!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. One should not forget that he always had to sell before buying!!!! It is not easy coz if you sell a shit player you get next to nothing and therefore you actually need to sometimes sell two to get one on the cheap and hence can prove to be a gamble. Let us look at the facts.

Torres at 20 mio. Superb buy

Alonso at 10 million. Superb buy

    Masch 18 mil super

Reina ( sorry cant remember the fee but pretty high for a keeper at that time) superb player

    Agger meagre 5 mil revelation

Skrtel again relatively cheap, great player

Johnson,- although quoted as 17 million he actually cost less coz Portsmouth owed us money from the Peter Crouch sale

    Garcia- 6 million

    Kuyt 10 million

Babel- 11 million- flop ( although to be fair and everyone seems to forget that- at the time he was hailed as the next Henry so cant really fault Rafa for that can we)

    Aquilani - 18 million- flop

    Dossena 6 million flop

Keane 20 million- (although rafa was not that keen on him at the time- he preferred to have Barry)

So am just mentioning some of the higher priced players. You will note that most of the 10 million or above priced players have been a hit so when Rafa was allowed to spend, he spent on very good players

On the other hand all the so called flops which keeps on getting mentioned are cheap knock offs which were Rafa's third of 4th choice

Rafa wanted Alves, Etoo, Silva, Villa, Mata, Vidic, Simao but was denied the funds to get those players

I believe that had rafa been given the money, he would have given us the premier league by now.

  33. Oh by the way, Jovanovic, pellegrino were free transfers. while Degen, Morientes cost us next to nothing

    ReplyDelete
  34. But he never coached him so why is Benitez a factor? Benitez was first team coach. Suso was not in the first team. This isn't even a debate.

    ReplyDelete
  35. no he didnt we won nothing in 84 85 season. kenny done the double in 85 86 .his first season

    ReplyDelete
  36. morientes cost us 6 million!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. yep reina needs a break maybe a finger or two so we dont have to see him between the sticks at anfield again worst cat since mike hooper

    ReplyDelete
  38. While a free transfer does not include a transfer fee, it is not free. The player will most likely demand higher wages and a higher signing fee. It is a common myth that a free transfer costs nothing. What is the point in bringing in substandard players on a free transfer while ending up not being able to afford the wages for better players.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes, Rafa always wanted this and that. He'd be well served at a club with endless funds like Man City or Chelsea. How about only being able to spend what is there? Or do you want to go the way of Leeds. Having said that, I acknowledge that our previous owners actually took money out of the club (so called travelling expenses) and we had to pay interest.

Anyway, in claiming that Rafa 'always had to sell before buying' you suggest that even the net spend during his reign is zero. I'd suggest that you better do some research regarding this. You may even find some interesting read about that topic on this website.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Really!!!??!?! Golden Glove winner!?!?!??! You forget the astonishing contribution of Pepe Reina?

Sickens me... a drop in form and you call for his head!! Why don't we just sell Gerrard and sack Brendan Rogers?

    ReplyDelete
  41. He didn't prefer to have Barry over Keane. He wanted Keane, only if Barry came as well. It is his signing, Keane.

Villa (£35m), Alves (£23-30m). Oh poor Rafa. I'm sure if XYZ was given the money, they would win it too with those players. I want a Bugatti Veyron but I know I'm not going to get it.
